Given how many times a random woman gives up everything to help him, he probably assumed Persephone would come willingly. After this story and its versions, I am savoring the Oh F*ck he must have felt frozen forever in the underworld. Not even Heracles could get him out. (In my favorite versions, of course.)

This one really took me back, I remember being a kid, probably pre-school, I was reading an astronomy book with constellation maps and all, saw Corona Borealis, there was a small footnote about it representing Ariadne's Crown and 6yo me went " SUCH A BEAUTIFUL NAME, I WANNA KNOW THIS PERSON'S STORY", so I asked 💫the internet 💫 and was very mad after reading the darker version of the myth I was presented with. I mean no surprise, I was wholeheartedly rooting for her before I knew who she was; but even objectively, she deserved all the best and got all the worst.

Hi Cinzia! I really like the new set-up. So, I feel a little foolish. It seems I’ve read and heard the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur many, many times. However, this is the first time that I’ve heard, after receiving Ariadne’s crucial help in navigating the Labyrinth to slay the creature and free the Athenian captives, that he later abandons her on some island after fleeing Crete together.
Obviously, the retelling of the myth I’ve been exposed to is conveniently edited to give the sense of a happily ever after ending. Wow! I’m a little ticked off by that, but also grateful that you shared the grimmer “rest of the story.”
Well, I guess is Ariadne ends up with Dionysus, alls well that ends well . . . but Theseus ending up with Ariadne’s sister after that, well it’s no bueno.
I’ve been lucky enough to go to Crete and visit the ruins of Knossos. I’ve always loved the twisted myths connected with the infamous King Minos and his retinue. However, I did not know Minos and Ariadne were related to either Circe and Medea! I’m always fascinated by the Circe story, but Medea is just too darn tragic . . . even for Greek myths.
If you haven’t yet, could you one day cover my favorite mythological hero, Atalanta!!! I love her whole story, especially the NICE ending where she and Hippomenes (a guy with brains who gets the cool girl) are turned into Lions to enjoy each other and the hunt. Makes perfect sense, the Lion can lay about and think while the Lioness runs about and hunts!!!

Artemis killing her is most likely an allusion to her dying during childbirth. Artemis would’ve had domain over childbirth and Walter Otto mentions that are some sources that say she was killed in childbirth by Dionysos’ command.

Fun cultural trivia, in Italian "piantata in Nasso" (literally "dropped in Naxos") is an expression used to mean "left in a compromising situation without any explanation as to why", obviously taking after this myth.
Of course, most people don't know of the existence of the myth and it's extremely common to mispronounce it a "piantata in asso" ("dropped in ace") instead, which makes no sense but, you know, people are dumb.

    An excellent video!
Something curious about Theseus is that leaving Ariadne aside, there are versions of Phaedra, Hippolyta, Helen, Antiope or Melanippa being kidnapped by him; He seemed to have a tendency to remove young women from their homes.
Surely Ariadna's case was another kidnapping.
I have read about an interpretation of the myth where Ariadne fled with Theseus, even though she was already married to Dionicio and that is why Dionicio would ask Artemis to kill her.
Finally, I have a suspicion that the mysterious Egle could be Helena; both names are associated with light and illumination; Also at this point in his story, perhaps Theseus had kidnapped Helena and left her in the care of his mother before his trip to Crete.

Comment on the new filming setup: You look notably more relaxed. Also, I don't know if it's the hair, the shirt, or what, but I suddenly picture you lounging on a chaise while explaining historical things and geeking out. I mean, who wouldn't want to lounge on a chaise? Though I've often wondered if they really would be relaxing, or if they'd be like a lot more work than you think. Should we start a gofundme to get a chaise for Cinzia? There should be plenty of room on a chaise for the adorable floof-woofer to join you.

Big scary monster in underground dungeons fits well. But now I can tell how crappy Theseus really are, and what a jerk he is, leaving Ariadne and getting his father killed. Well, that is really a very tragic end but told right Dionysios intervention can give it a good ending of sort.

RE: the content changes you mentioned at the end of the videos... honestly, your health and wellbeing has to come first (something I'd say is true for _anyone_ , in the content creation space or anywhere else), so IMO changing things up for the sake of your health is always going to be a positive change overall.
Even laying aside the ethical, moral and personal reasons I have for believing that, I think just on a content quality basis it's always preferable to see a creator really enjoying what they're doing, as opposed to forcing themselves to trudge through the process out of a sense of obligation to "the audience" (which is always a nebulous and very hard to define concept, really; there certainly seems to be a lot of scope for defining an unattainable/unsustainable standard in the uncertainty of it, or at least I know I'd struggle with that!). Deep dives can be fun and informative, sure, but they're _far_ from the only valid, engaging, or entertaining way to explore topics :)
I think if you're keeping yourself well, and enjoying what you're creating, then that will shine through in the content and it's a win-win for everyone, regardless of how often you're able to publish videos. At this point, I reckon I've seen enough of your videos to say with a reasonable degree of confidence that wherever you decide to go with your content, I'll be here for it :)
Of course I'm just one weirdo on the internet spouting my singular opinion, but... for what it's worth, I know I'm not the only person who feels this way about the content creators whose work I enjoy. Parasocial relationships can be tricksy things, but just on a human level I certainly don't want anyone else's health or wellbeing to suffer just for the sake of my entertainment, or some sense of obligation to it.
I guess the tl;dr version is... stay safe, look after yourself, we stan looking after your physical, mental and emotional health (that goes for _anyone_ reading this!), and I hope you're doing better soon 💜

Never heard this version of the myth before. Guess Theseus was the original dumb jock.

Honestly I'm happy to see a bit of a shorter video. I do love your content, but I also have been very busy with life stuff and there are videos of yours that I keep on my google chrome tab to watch when I can, but can't find the time to watch it all in one sitting (which Is how I would prefer, given the type of content). Idk, you brought interesting versions of the myth with a lot of stuff I didn't knew AND you did that in a time that was better suited to my schedule. Even if you have to split videos to fit the time frame in the future, I think I prefer this.
And, of course, there is your health and safety to worry about. Which is the main thing, of course, I didn't mean otherwise. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Don't worry about shortening the lenght of the video. You have wonderful content and while the change might not please everyone, there certainly are people for whom this is actually better. If this is what hepls you get better, just stay healthy.

I just finished listening to Euripides Medea. It is a similar story. Fucking tragic but that's what it's for. I love listening to the plays. Sophecles the 3 Theban plays are amazing. Andromache isn't for me though, think that was Euripides though.
Next time I hear someone saying youtube is good for nothing I can't wait to real off everything I've learnt about ancient Greece the last 6 months since finding your channel and falling in love with mythology and ancient Greeks.
I might even take a course when I eventually drag my arse to university.
Thanks for making these brilliant educational video's. Really!

I have a theory as to why Artemis would kill Ariadne but I am no means a greek methology expert. Artemis as the goddess of the hunt usually protects sacred animals and the bull and it's descendant the minotaur are part of her domain idk (Artemis also hunts other sacred animals herself so this theory is weak but just an idea tho) with Ariadne helping to kill the Minotaur that might've slighted her but idk how it would fit with the Dionysus- Artemis beef
