After i left Islam, i began to see "signs" of hecate everywhere. Triples, black dogs and cats, the moon shined clearer than ever before. One night i decided to call out to Hecate, asking for guidance. As i was falling to sleep, i heard a woman's whispers swirling around in my head. It sounded like she was walking around my house muttering some kind of enchantment. I felt protected by it. I am not the type of person to get down on my knees and "worship" anyone or anything, with my experince with Islam i know how dangerous that can be. But i do admire wisdom and guidance and I am very interested in learning more about her.
My favorite aspect of Hecate has always been her association with crossroads, borders, doors, gates, etc. and liminality. I just love her chthonic nature and how she is both representation and holder of the key to other realms. She is neither here not there but powerful both in each place but in between them as well.
Sirius rises at lughnasa. She sets around beltain. It depends a bit on your longitude. The boundaries of time. The gates of the seasons… the seasons of life…
As a daughter of Asterie she is a star goddess. As a daughter of Perses she is associated with Sirius. Her three forms, association with dogs, and the underworld also indicate Sirius. Her torches… boundaries… lions… all Sirius. The more you look into it the more you see her clearly.
Hecate is who I call upon for justice. She has never disappointed. Learned to invoke her away from the household. There's a cemetery I use that has a large magnolia tree at a crossroads. Works like a charm
I've seen many speak of this and I've been very drawn to her since last year but always been too hesitant and I'm I'm thinking it's time . I've seen so many signs linking to her
Hecate is extremely dear to me. She has been an inspiration and source of strength for me since I was born. Thank you so much for making a video on her.
All my cats have classical names… and my first cat was called Hecate, so she has a special place in my heart. ❤️ I love your videos, thank you so much!

I'm remembering the movie Jason and the Argonauts from the 60s. They had Medea, a priestess of Hecate. She performed a ceremonial dance and an edict. There was a statue of Hecate. Huge, three lioness heads, covered in gold. They got it a bit right. I fell in love with Hecate immediately. I was 12. 1972. Thank you Cinzia. ❤❤
Oh my goodness! This was where it started for me and Hecate too! Think I watched it in about 1997 when I was a little girl. It was and still is one of my most favourite films. ❤
I remember requesting a Hecate vid and thinking “god Cinzia is gonna make such a good video on this!” Outstanding work and so excited for your podcast! P.S. I love hearing the pups in the background! 💕
I first met hecate when a homeless crazy man saw me walking out of a food bank and made eye contact wirh me and said her name, i later learned who she was because of whatever voices or compulsions he heard telling him to speak her name to me lol.
Hekate came to me during my Saturn return and guided me through the winter of my life. I converted from Catholicism to Hellenistic paganism and I have felt fulfilled ever since.
Awesome video… some years ago I began a journey of spirituality and self discovery… as I self studied, I felt drawn to Hecate and she became my patron Goddess. Long story short, after some I performed a self initiation, during my meditation, I asked for my craft name, within about 15-20mins I had an overwhelming sense of a presence within my room. Shortly after I felt a touch on my shoulder and my name popped into mind. It was an experience I have not forgotten… Throughout this journey, I have learned/experienced many things, I now understand that I am a spiritual being. I no longer follow the dogma of my religious upbringing, I have evolved from my learning/practicing of the craft and have embraced a unity with all things. This journey through life we will continue to learn and grow until the day spirit returns to the greater collective. But, Hecate remains apart of me, I still speak her at cross road and other Hecate aspects. After all she is one of the oldest and most powerful of Goddesses, she predates Greek mythology… Blessed Be
When you say that Baccylides attests that Hecate sprang from the night itself, it's worth noting that he is talking about Nyx (the Goddess who *is* Night), who has a number of 'children' without a father, Hecate being one of them.
Hecate came to me in a dream, she was laughing with me and talking to me like a mom would. When I asked her name the name Hecate appeared on a piece of paper. So here I am doing research. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I have a plaque from egypt found in the 1920's in a tomb alongside Old Kingdom artefacts (dated 2200-2400BCE) . This is clearly Hecate, three heads with on body, inverted crescent moon as a headdress, lit torches in two hands, knives in two hands and a vase and a spherical object in the others. The style is cleary ancient egyptian not thracian, greek or roman and one head has the traditional cap seen on old kingdom heads! She has a lion to her right (Pakhet?) and a dog (Wepwawet?) to her left both associated with the book of the dead and on both sides is being threatened by depictions of Appophis the egyptian god of destruction. I wish I could attach a photo this is a very impressive item. This is art work before the roman period clearly showing her as a moon realted goddess. No other example is recorded on checking with all the major museums. I think that Hecate (probably under a different name perhaps a adaptation of Heket the frog god) seems to be a much older goddess than realised!
A really fascinating and informative video! I've been casually interested in ancient Greek mythology since I was a little kid, but somehow I'd never come across Hecate's connection to the Titans before, nor her possible role in the birth of Zeus (when she's mentioned at all). I really feel like I learnt something new watching this. Thank you.
I found you & your AMAZING channel a month or so ago & have LOVED every single thing I've watched!! The time and effort you put into these are.... OUTSTANDING!! Extremely excited for the Goddess of Witchcraft. 🙏💜
@@CinziaDuBois My comment got a like! Sorry to bother you if it seems inappropriate, but I think it relates to what was implied by 'consorting with the devil' and if anyone could verify or refute what was "well understood" in those dim dark distant days ... ?
Great video. One aspect worth exploring that is not really covered is the Egyptian connection with the name. 'Heka' is both a god and the word for 'magic' in Ancient Egypt and 'et' is a feminising suffix. It is possible that the Carian goddess had another name but that an Egyptian one stuck. The Egyptian god Heka is depicted holding two crossed snakes and the 'snake goddess' of the Minoans, who seems to have much in common with Hekate is also often shown holding two snakes. The snakes are also sometimes more resembling an umbilical cord that twists around the goddess image which might hint at connections with childbirth.
It was actually Qus not Egypt that had Heka. Important, because it makes sense that Hekate became the goddess of the ancient Greek witches. The constant city state wars would have women and children fleeing. Qus is located closely to the city in Greece where the ancient temple to Hekate was. The "te" ending in Greek made it feminine.

Thank you, most sincerely, for your marvelous essay on Hecate. As the first deity ever to make a conscious and named impression on my life, Hecate has been dear to my heart throughout most of my days and nights on Earth, and I never tire of hearing more lore, more stories, theories and memories about the roles she has played in other lives and civilizations. Were I asked, I would say that, from my own experience at least, she is currently the most active and palpably present of all the ancient Greek gods in the world of today. One sees her and feels her presence everywhere, and I am always grateful to other humans who acknowledge her and thank her and give her some of the respect she is due. So thank you, once again! I may have thought that I knew everything there was to know about Our Lady Of The Crossroads, but you have taught me even more, and I will recommend this delightful video to everybody I know. All the best to you. Blessed be to all of your scholarly endeavors, and may Hecate's blessing light your way always. --N
Hecate really can't stop getting herself caught up in trinities, huh. I've loved the whole three-in-one goddess idea ever since first reading Neil Gaimian's Sandman, so it's great to see the history behind the stories!

Never realized how complex Hecate was. I mean, all of the mythological characters are complex and have deep roots, but it is always fascinating to see how things like this go from one thing to another to another. Facinating!
Thank you so much for making this. I knew she was the goddess of magic and the lady of the lamp, I was introduced to her as the only one to aide Demeter as she searched for her daughter, before even Helios would admit he had seen what happened. I always worry when I see someone is covering a mythic figure or a god, how will they handle it, will it be a wreak? Your video was amazing.

hi! I've been researching hecate for the past three weeks and stumbled upon this video. After reading old articles from 1913 and primary sources dating back centuries that the libraries had- this video was such a refresher. I was able to breakdown all my research and discover even more information. I was scribbling down so much information while you were talking that I couldn't keep up at one point. Thank you for this video, an absolute blessing.
I’m a recent practitioner of witchcraft and have an altar for Hecate in my home. I additionally have a triple goddess tattoo on my wrist. It was wonderful to learn Hecate’s origins prior to her being known as Mother Maiden and Crone Thank you sharing! Very fascinating!
Can I just say a big thank you for listing the resources you've used in the description. This feels like a really great starting point to learn more about Hekate!

I always love learning about new things and this essay about Hekate/Hecate is just amazing, I used to do research when I was younger in the gods and goddesses but I have to say I never learned that she had any connection to dogs or hounds of any sort, that is amazing. I wonder if she and Bastet ever traded teaching techniques? or woes about their animals over drinks? I mean just because one is for cats and one is for dogs does not mean they can't share their love and support each other
I pray to Hecate every day!! She gives me mental and physical strength especially during times of great stress!! Thank you goddess Hecate, I appreciate you ❤. Just a note for the narrator, if you could present the content in a more serious manner, your videos would be way better!! Usually people that look for this type of content take it seriously and want it presented seriously, thank you!!
Helios and Hecate are the higher divine aspects of being human. "Them watching Persephone's capture" is the divine feminine and divine masculine observing the descent of concious spiritual essence( fem principle) be in-cubed or incubated into physical reality. Most ancient stories telling of descension speak from a viewpoint higher than human normalities so they are relayed through constructs the human perception can recognize( re-learn).
so cool to find this in my recommended. Ive always loved greek mythology and when i began practicing witchcraft i became incredibly drawn towards Hecate. Something about her slowly pulls me in. i have two dogs myself and coincidently my altar has always had two candles on it.
i am a devotee to her she saved my life and i am SO grateful for her. and THANK YOU SO MUCH for this insightful video about her. it’s hard to find the right info about her 🗝️
She could be summed up, to me, as the goddess of change, cycles, and transition... dooways= Outside to Inside. Liminal= Light TO Shaow, or dark TO light, or living TO Dead. Persephone= Maiden TO Mature TO Crone back TO Maiden, which is why she she is the escort or companion to Persephone. Same with her familiars, the nurse TO the pole cat and the regal queen TO the wretched vengeful b!tch. Same with menstrual blood. The keys are change from outside to inside, and torches being in the dark to being in the light... Am I the only one that felt this way?
Love your narration and voice ! All this dog sacrifice and eating dogs stuff put me off on this Heacte character. There must be a older version the Greeks used to make their dog eating & sacrificing version. On a side note... We tend to think of the Underworld as somewhere we are not , although to the Gods above we would infact be living on the Underworld.
I think it’s cause you’re just trying to work with them. You’re not allowed to just use them, they dislike that and think it’s disrespectful. You first have to bond with them, set ur intentions with them, it’s something that is gradual over time. I tried reaching out to Hecate, eros, even my spirit team, I didnt get anything but I’m still trying because I know it’s out there.
@@isthatrllyanders I think you maybe meant this to reply to a different comment? But nonetheless, wishing you well on your journey. Glad to hear you’re being patient. I worked with her before but without knowing as much as I should have. I want to work with her again and I feel like it makes her happy to learn more about her.
Although I have always pronounced Hecate as you do, I’ve recently been corrected by a couple of Greek speaking friends, who suggest that the emphasis is placed on the second syllable.
It's wonderful to hear someone explain the history of Hecate. I found the dog sacrifice evidence very interesting. First I have ever heard of archeological evidence, but I had read of dogs being sacrifieced to Hecate somewhere. I am not surprised that historians and historical fiction writers have mansplained the Godesses into simplified and homoginized forms. I love the I Claudius Books, but I dont believe Graves had much interest in female deities beyond dramatic writing. But I haven't read "The White Goddess", so I couldn't say for sure. Anways, I loved this video! Thank you for making it.

My beautiful shepherd girl is here next to me... I just restarted my practice after having to leave it behind years ago, but Hecate is the first divinity that has spoken to me. Now I have my protector I feel so ready to move out into the world
Great video. Dear watchers and students, it should be known that the various associations and specifics are often due to the individuals (sorcerers/practitioners) were assisted in a specific way, and so then the stories commenced, “well this deity/god is good for such and such” because the individual in a successful relationship with divine beings, fulfills a purpose and so hence is assisted by spiritual Beings. The variations are often due to the individual soul journey nearly assisted. The claims reflect personal powers rather than the actual power of the deity and of course the common aspects are the deities 🙏🏼

This is a very comprehensive, well researched and presented video. Well done and thank you. Hecate is derived from an ancient Egyptian word Heka that means magic, enchanter and much more. The ideas you are expressing about Hecate is far more complex and is part of ancient cosmology that was lived out in real tradition (various cultural expressions including religion, rituals, etc). In my free online chapter 9, extracted from my book Akashic Records and Holy Grails, you will understand the broader meaning of the ancient cosmology and how Heka(T) fits into these ancient ideas, for example, why she was a triple goddess, like the three later three Marys, the meaning of linking her to dogs, her association with gates, roads and other ideas.

@therealvlad505 that is a beautiful story. I love it!
The gates of the seasons… the seasons of life…
I love the way you think and your wordsmith ability 🤔😊♥️
As a daughter of Asterie she is a star goddess. As a daughter of Perses she is associated with Sirius. Her three forms, association with dogs, and the underworld also indicate Sirius. Her torches… boundaries… lions… all Sirius. The more you look into it the more you see her clearly.
thats why i saw a woman with 2 hound dogs in my vision.
Hecate is who I call upon for justice. She has never disappointed. Learned to invoke her away from the household. There's a cemetery I use that has a large magnolia tree at a crossroads. Works like a charm
How do you invoke her
???
I've seen many speak of this and I've been very drawn to her since last year but always been too hesitant and I'm I'm thinking it's time . I've seen so many signs linking to her
Hecate is extremely dear to me. She has been an inspiration and source of strength for me since I was born. Thank you so much for making a video on her.
All my cats have classical names… and my first cat was called Hecate, so she has a special place in my heart. ❤️ I love your videos, thank you so much!
I plan on naming my first cat Hecate too!!
I have 3 Dogs and they all have classical names too! Apollo, Phoenix and Titan. I had no idea about Hekate before naming them, and now I think she may have been subtly guiding me🥰

Oh my goodness! This was where it started for me and Hecate too! Think I watched it in about 1997 when I was a little girl. It was and still is one of my most favourite films. ❤
I have seen Hekate in a vision with the face of a lion.

I appreciate that you made Hecate your next subject soooo much! Thank you! So excited to finish watching this while I get ready for work!! 🖤
Thank you.

@@davidrogers8030 Slang for clandestine encounters of a more carnal nature.

I always love learning about new things and this essay about Hekate/Hecate is just amazing, I used to do research when I was younger in the gods and goddesses but I have to say I never learned that she had any connection to dogs or hounds of any sort, that is amazing.
Persephone is one of many dying & resurrecting vegetation God/desses, part of Earth's rhythms.

and i am SO grateful for her.
and THANK YOU SO MUCH for this insightful video about her.
it’s hard to find the right info about her 🗝️
She could be summed up, to me, as the goddess of change, cycles, and transition... dooways= Outside to Inside. Liminal= Light TO Shaow, or dark TO light, or living TO Dead. Persephone= Maiden TO Mature TO Crone back TO Maiden, which is why she she is the escort or companion to Persephone. Same with her familiars, the nurse TO the pole cat and the regal queen TO the wretched vengeful
b!tch. Same with menstrual blood. The keys are change from outside to inside, and torches being in the dark to being in the light... Am I the only one that felt this way?
I'm so happy to see this video about one of my favorite goddesses. "And she's not wrong ". 😂

The dog head may be a relation to Sothis or Sirius the dog star usually associated with Isis.

Where can I read the chapter?
