The Greek Way of Death was such a good book to read about the Greeks thoughts and interactions with their dead and how death affected the livings lived and laws

Good video! esp about such a multifaceted topic. Re: The oracle at Delphi, Religion for Breakfast here on youtube did a video exploring whether we now believe fumes are the culprit of the trances, and generally probably not.
Been watching your videos for quite awhile & always enjoy them. These last several including this one have been really interesting to me, since I’m really focused on the Hades video game at the moment. I really adore both Thanatos & Zagreus in the game & would love to hear more about them!
I'm playing that game too and loving the mythology! I'm not very skilled so it's taking me awhile to get through (I'm up to Theseus), and I'm taking a break to play Spiritfarer. Which is funny because it's also loosely based on the Underworld, taking on Charon's job but in a more wholesome way :)

Curious is that different countries mention the ancient Greek burial coin tradition differently. The British and Americans say the coins were put in the deceased's mouth, but the Russians (and other east-Europeans say coins were put on one's eyes. I wonder if this depended on source or on translation? 🤔
good video, do you have a list of sources you used? as someone who is very interested in greek mythology and cult, i would love to read these books/articles
It's very interesting how the ancient greek views on the underworld were translated on Christianity and the old testament since the biblical sheol is basically the hebrew version of the underworld as there's no heaven or hell on the old testament.
Charon: OK, get in the boat. Me *becoming one of the restless dead to haunt my neighbor who keeps blocking my driveway*: Yeah, I don't think so, nerd. *Hecate approvingly draws me a map back to my house in the background*
The land on the dead is named Hades, the king is named for the land he ruled. That’s why he is also called Pluton, which is a name of the god alone. It’s like kings and queens being called England, Spain, France and the like, instead of their personal names. We know lots about Hades, but little about its ruler.
