    What's up guys?! Tanner here.
    To everyone that is interested in monkey bars, pegboards, ninja courses, etc., be sure to check some of my recent uploads of our Backyard Bar Park II progress.
    The entire course is currently at the powdercoaters, and I just have to pick it up (once they call), dig and pour the concrete footers, and set it all up!
    Shouldn't be too much longer now!

    Bad motorcycle Accident last year so I'm just getting well enough now to get back on the bars. Went from doing 20 pull-ups with 40lb vest to now I'm just able to 1 which I'm happy about. So now I like this setup, building this with the pegs on the side.

      I enjoyed this setup. My new one is still in the works. If you scroll down from my latest videos, checkout Backyard Bar Park 2. It's going to be awesome whenever it's complete. Hopefully it won't be much longer....

    Great looking monkey bars. I’ve been searching everywhere for a step by step...and your answers in the comments are really helpful. Just one question, with fixing the metal bars on both sides...how did you attach them and how do you stop them rolling? Thanks in advance

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  4 года назад +3

      Pipe ends were threaded. I twisted one side in place. It locked firmly. I had to lightly tap the other side into its hole. Both ends were coated with gorrilla glue first. No bar ever turned at all.

    How long is the overall structure? What is the spacing of the rungs? How many total rungs are there? Any two of these answers should give me the other one :)

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  5 лет назад +4

      Those frame boards are 2 x 12' s. I sandwiched 2 together for each side. There are 9 total bars. Starts at the down point, rises 3" to next bar, rises 3" to next bar, then down, down, up, up, down, down, all in 3" increments. I cannot recall my spacing distance between bars. For 9 transitions to fill up a 12' span, they had to be over 12" apart. The 4 framing posts were all 6 x 6.

    Love the setup. How wide are the pipes you used? Looking to make something similar myself.

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  6 лет назад +5

      Sofia Harnedy I had them cut 38" each. That way, after I put each end into the 2" x 12" x 12", I still had a full 36" gap. Sad to say a storm blew the huge pine trees over directly onto it back in the summer. I have not had a chance to rebuild anything other than a pull up bar yet. Going to do something crazy this time around. Look in my pegboard videos to see how I had my diy climbing pegboards mounted. I miss this setup.

    Do you have any instructions on what you used equipment wise and how you secured the bars?

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  7 лет назад +4

      The posts are 6'' x 6'' , the main boards are two 2'' x 12' lag bolted together. We drilled only 1 of the 2'' x 12' with a forstener bit to put each threaded end of the pipe into. We put Gorilla glue into the holes and over the threaded ends of the pipe. We were able to thread one side, but there was no way to thread the other. So we had to work each pipe into position by hand and tap it in with a mallet. Once the bars were all secured, we then mounted the other full 2'' x 12' to each side of the 2'' x 12' with the attached bars. We had to use a tractor to lift it into place. This thing is heavy as hell! One 2'' x 12' on each side would likely have been sufficient. That Gorilla wood glue expands nicely as well. If you get the bars in tight, and use this glue, they won't be moving anytime soon. They will thread the ends of your pipe at home depot for you. That is where I bought mine. They cut, and threaded it all for me right there in store. Get whatever gauge of pipe your grip is most comfortable with.

    • @scottstewart9154
      @scottstewart9154 5 лет назад +2

      @@TannerFlowers so for securing the bars you just monster glued them into the holes on each side?

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  4 года назад

      I twisted one end super tight into the predrilled hole, along with the gorilla glue. The other end, we had to cover the threads in gorilla glue, and take a rubber mallet, and tap each bar, into each hole, all at once, and tap the board down over the threads. No bar ever turned once. And I likely have the strongest grip in the entire world.

  • @j.m.rhapsody
    @j.m.rhapsody 6 лет назад +3

    How much did this costs?

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  6 лет назад +1

      I built it all myself, with the help of my dad, father-in-law, and buddy. So this saved a ton. But in the monkey bar build, I was right around $800 in costs. I probably spent another $150 total in building the pegboards. I miss this setup so much. A storm blew the big pine trees on top of it. So far, I have only built a pull up bar back out there in its place. I keep saying I am going to build it back even better, but I have yet to make the time to do so.

  • @Reichsm

    How are the 2 x12x12 connected to the 6x6? And how are the bars connected to the 2x12x12 so they don’t spin inside Thanks in advance

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  5 лет назад +2

      The doubled up 2 x 12's were all bolted through the 2 x 12's and the 6 x 6 post. The 6 x 6 post were also notched for the double 2 x 12's.
      The pipes I had cut and threaded on the ends at Home Depot. I pre-drilled the holes so I had to twist them into the wood, and forcefully drive the other end on with a rubber mallet. On the threads, I applied a heavy coating of gorilla wood glue. It expands. After forcing the threaded ends into the holes in the 2 x 12's, they did not move then. After the glue expanded, it was just overkill. Not a single bar ever twisted at all on that build.
      I am currently drawing out plans for a new one. It is going to be super awesome. This one here in this video was my pride and joy. But a storm blew the mega pine tree right down on top of it. I miss those monkey bars and pegboards.

    • @Reichsm
      @Reichsm 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks man these are great. My daughter loves monkey bars. She is 5 and crosses them every time she sees them so figured I would build one for her and I. Last question though in the video the 6 x6s look like they have the 2x12s sitting on top of them. Your Saying they are just positioned outside the 2x12s with a bolt connection?

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  5 лет назад +2

      @@Reichsm no. The 6 x 6 post were notched/cut for the doubled up 2 x 12's to sit atop, then the post, and both 2 x 12's had bolts running all the way through them, holding all three together.

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  6 лет назад +2

      3 Gun Rookie To be honest I cannot remember. A storm blew trees onto this one. I have started to rebuild, but only have a pull up bar at this time. Those are 2" x 12' boards. There were 9 bars total. So the spacing must have been a little over 12 inches apart. Sorry I do not still have my exact dimensions.

    How far apart are the bars spaced

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  5 лет назад +1

      I don't recall exactly. The framing boards are two 2 x 12's sandwiched together. I had nine bars. I am thinking it was 16". Starting bar, then Up 3", up 3", down 3", down 3", up, up, down, down. That is how I laid them out on this particular build.

    • @taken5875
      @taken5875 5 лет назад +1

      I assume you made a double 2x12 beam on each side and only drilled through the inside ones to attach the bars but how did you keep the bars from spinning? I’ve got 2 herniated disks an was planing on building a pull up bar to hang from but what’s the fun in that when you can build monkey bars.

    • @TannerFlowers
      @TannerFlowers  5 лет назад +1

      @@taken5875 they were all threaded on the ends. I would twist them into the wooden hole that I would predrill. And I put that expanding wooden gorilla glue around all the threads. None of them ever twisted.

      Getting things lined up with a fabricating team now. This rebuild will be done mostly all metal. Can't wait to get it going!
