I don’t watch you every week ( don’t know why ) then I get to binge watch few at a time oh such JOY repeating myself every vlog your poetry & art work are just so fabulous NATURE at her best Vanessa a GREAT TALENT 🥰
You don't have to watch me each week, Sue- and it is lovely to know that you binge watch. My vlogs are not long so that is a great way to do it. Thank you so much for your lovely comment about my journal, that is so kind of you🤗 Take care 🌻🦋
A weekend without "The Mindful Narroboat" is not a weekend. Thank you, vanessa for this beautiful and interesting video. A nice and calm weekend for you. Magnus
Oh . . . this was such a treat Vanessa, I never tire of your videos, the fine narration for which you share quite a bit of your knowledge of botany, birds and nature. As always, the poem and artwork at the end were a welcome bonus. Thank you so much for this !
Thanks again for a wonderful video. I never cease to be amazed at the beautiful pictures you capture or at your knowledge of nature. All this and talent for art and poetry!
My goodness what a talented lady are you, love the scenes of your poetry and the beautiful illustrations… a truly lovely person who clearly has her eyes in the important things in life … just lovely xx
Hi Vanessa. As usual, this video was an absolute treat in every way. I so look forward to settling down each week and just losing myself in your lovely journeys. You make everything so interesting and we even get the history of the places you visit, which is a bonus. The scenery and the birds and animals are always a joy to see and I love the relaxed way you then go to your book(while Zephyr is watching on) and record and sketch what you have seen. Thank you again for sharing each journey. Look forward to the next one. It means a lot. Stay safe.
You are so welcome, Elizabeth. It is an absolute pleasure to make the vlogs for viewers like you. I am so pleased that you enjoy them and find them relaxing. It means a lot to me to hear that.🤗 Have a wonderful rest of the week, take care🌻🦋
Another beautiful idyll about a beautiful rural idyll - what a find Vanessa, very unusual with that rock formation and amazing scenery. I love to see game birds who have escaped their fate and found a safe home, like my pheasant Percy who visits every day! I hope you get to stick around there for a while, I am sure there's so much more to explore. Well spring has definitely sprung and your garden is blooming despite the snow. Have an amazing week xxx
I am so pleased that Percy is still popping in to see you. I wonder if he has a lady-pheasant friend and you might have tiny Percies visiting too soon? Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Forgive me if you are sick of people asking this question, but I have only just found you on here. Your log with the beautiful art needs to be published. I would most certainly be getting one. Keep safe and well.
That is very kind of you, Nigel. I sell my books in my Etsy shop as a little business that I set up after some viewers asked if they could buy them. I never intended for them to be sold though and I am so grateful to anyone who wants to buy one. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi from Washington state right across the water from Vancouver Canada.... Love your videos living on the boat... so many other channels of narrow boating but your channel is by far the best i have seen... Keep up the Great videos girl... i enjoy them very much... thankyou for sharing!!
There are some beautiful places along the canals. Have you ever got as far north as the Skipton area. I loved driving along the valley with the river, road, railway and canal all running along side each other.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I haven't been to Skipton on the boat yet- next year we will head that way, but I have been there by car and it is stunning- like you say. I can't wait to cruise there. Have a super week, take care🦋🌻
My friend used to live on a narrowboat at Stourbridge, once we went on a little cruise to kinver and it was one of the best day trips I’ve ever had with my wife and a few friends. I’m now windowed and lonely and sad, I have the dream of selling my house and living on a narrowboat but I just can’t seem to get enough courage together to do it.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss and how you are feeling. I understand completely how you feel about not having the courage to make the next step but by not doing what you would love to do is not bringing you the happiness that you deserve. What worries you the most about making the step into narrowboat life? Take care 🌻🦋
Still, your videos are always fun. This old boat should really hit an enthusiast. You are so beautiful and then your opening about your experiences, It was a pleasure to follow you again with the video you made.
Hello,Vanessa - greetings from Poland. The Staffs and Worcester Canal was where I took my very first canal cruise in May 1972. We hired a boat from Anglo Welsh. I'll never forget it. Thank you for bringing back so many wonderful memories. A very beautiful video. So very well photographed with so many historical facts and information. I really loved your poem and sketch this week. A gorgeous walk in a very beautiful part of Staffordshire. See you next Friday. Stay safe please
How wonderful to have your first narrowboat cruise in such a beautiful place. I am so pleased that it brought back the memories for you.Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, Michael, take care.🌻🦋
Vanessa all I can say is your amazing you really are what a life you have it’s just perfect keep sailing them canals and say hi to zephyr your dog hope I spelt it right
That place is worth a visit your moving garden is showing sings of spring .now that picture in the end of zepher tell it all a very happy dog who has somebody that he really cares for her thank you and keep safe
It is almost time to get serious about planting again and I can't wait to get in my tiny garden again. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Awww thank you so much better than I was but still struggling to get out and walk had four joint injections they have helped a bit at 78 grateful can get around a bit now inside home tc 🌺🙏👋
Absolutely fantastic drawings yes I've seen some of your older drawing Absolutely brilliant got some catching up to watch all of them you have an admirer no secret now loving your poems to really good ❤
Hi Nigel, thank you so much for your lovely comment. Kinver is such a beautiful place to visit. I totally, recommend the chip butty combo...delicious!😋 Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🌻🦋
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, James. Although, you should see my older vlogs- my drawing has improved a bit since then, only because I draw in my journal once a week. Take care🌻🦋
What a stunning vlog. Captivating. Thank you - just wonderful. I could go on rabbiting with adjectives - wildlife, plants and scenery fantastic; but I still adore Zephyr!
Thank u for a lovely vlog this week 😊 Kinver is such a lovely place with spectacular views its been years since l last visited in my caravan years, l had forgotten about the rock houses its hard to imagine people living in them although there's lot left in Europe. The flowers on the bow look beautiful so nice to see colour on the boat it's a sign springs on the way. I hope u have a lovely weekend and nice walks 😊🐕
I bet it was a great place to visit in your caravan, Simon. Living in a rock is such a good idea toasty in the winter and cool in the summer. I read that it is easy to carve out an extra space if you need a new room too! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
This vlog, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, is very reminiscent of the ones that first led me to subscribe to your channel... peaceful cruising, stunning scenery, interesting wildlife (including a very judgmental goose!) and a little history lesson all rolled into one. (Not that all the vlogs aren't a treat, but this one just pushes all the buttons!) Thanks! I can certainly see why you'd consider this area to be among the most beautiful places.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Brewster. I completely understand what you are saying about this vlog and I am so pleased that you enjoyed it. I really loved putting it together. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Looks a lovely place. Wagtails I'm used to seeing regularly on my many walks on the canals around Brinklow Rugby but a guinea fowl very rare. We used to keep ducks and geese with a few guinea fowl and 1 old turkey, used to get some looks from ramblers walking by. Used to keep the horses and many goats too, bit of a small holding. Love etching your video as you show lots of nature and lovely to see in gorgeous places. Zephyr is smashing, my wife had a dog spit and image of yours they are great friends enjoy. Kev😊
So who films you Vanessa? It is all so well edited. Your food looks great. Just right for a cold March day. I guess you feel like you are in control steering in nature of your lovely boat. Love the weirs. Very clever design for the birds to drink from. Amazing rock houses. Fascinating place. What a place the caves are. Far away from civilisation as we know it today. Zephyr is so cute and curious. Your little helper. Thanks so much for this weekly vlog. Stay well and warm. x
Hi Vanessa, I film me using my mobile phone which is on a little tripod. I then use my other camera for filming the wildlife and journey. Sometimes, I set the camera up, walk on and then come back and get it. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🦋🌻
Lovely vlog. I found Kinver recently and so enjoyed the trails one evening. Not by narrowboat but in my old campervan. You have captured the place so well.
It is a beautiful place however you travel around it, isn't it? How lovely to have an old campervan! 🤩 Thank you for watching. Have a super week, take care🌻🦋
Just found your channel, love how enthusiastic you are about all you see, and the journal is amazing, so wish I had that art talent you have. Look forward to seeing more of your past and future travels.
Kinver reminded me in some ways of Matlock as they both are quite hilly with great views. Matlock is in a valley but equally beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to make these Video's Vanessa.
Matlock is stunning. I visited it once to see a friend and was blown away by how beautiful it was. Thank you for watching. Have a great week, take care🌻🦋
I live in the Black country, and Kinver is a very poplar day out for a lot of people, it is a stunning place and thank you so much Vanessa for showing the world it's beauty.
You are so lucky to be so close to such a stunning place for a visit. I was reading that during the industrial revolution, when the Black Country was the workshop of the world, those that lived there would take weekend breaks to Kinver. Thank you for so much for watching and commenting. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Really enjoyable, peaceful vlog thanks! I'm not sure I'm on board with the guac/chips/kraut sandwich, but had to laugh seeing how you made a bunch all at once 😆. Those rock houses were so odd looking. A bit sad, thinking of that woman living all alone there. The apple moss was so pretty! And then the guinea hen at the end. Here's something funny! I was just wondering if my friend Millie still has her guinea fowl. She had a flock of them on her farm in Kentucky for years. They were a great security system, clacking away at strangers showing up on the property. And they helped to exercise the corgis by racing with them along the fence line. Very pretty area you were in. I'm sitting here wondering if winter will ever be done. Middle of March and it only got up to 12F today!
Hi Debba, your friend's farm sounds amazing and how funny that they kept the corgis fit too. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Near where you are there is a town called Bridgnorth, it started in 875 ! it has a leaning tower (15 degrees MORE than the leaning tower of Pisa) which is a ruined castle, it is on the Severn river, it's a beautiful place. Full of history, it has a funicular railway and also a steam railway with 7 stops starting at Bridgnorth and ending in Kidderminster, each station looks like something out of a 1940's movie (or the station at Hogwarts!)
I can see why this is your favorite place to visit on the cut. It's a place so full of history Really old history .That was one thing I remembered on my one trip to England years ago you could walk through places that were around 500 years or more before you were born. Over here there is not much you can see that's goes back more then 200 years. I hope you don't mind but I wanted to ask if you draw from memory? The drawing you did of the Guinea foul was perfect. Thanks again for another voyage on the Alice Grace. Steve
Hi Steve, thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I really enjoy walking through the old, old places; I find it fascinating. Of course I don't mind you asking about my drawing. I draw from the photographs that I have taken to pick up the details. I have a useless memory, but I should try and practice drawing from memory more. I decide what I am going to put in my journal for the week and then I make stills from my films and flick through them as I am drawing. Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🦋🌻
What a lovely cruise.I agree absolutely with you that Kinver is a wonderful spot.I must go back there again this year. On a clear day in high summer you can see for miles from the top.Where to next?
Hi Chris, it is a very special place and so quiet this time of year too. We're heading to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Thanks Vanessa, for taking us along on this beautiful cruise with great natural history and all the wildlife. Your diary always makes my week. Take care and all the best. Stevie
the Guinea fowl looked so ancient and wise! what a gorgeous journey today...the sandstone formations are stunning and the rock houses intriguing. Would love to have seen inside them! thanks again for another peaceful journey to end the week. Take good care and many warm greetings to you, Mr M and Zephyr 🥰❤
Hi Wendy, thank you so much for your lovely comment. The guinea fowl was so beautiful to watch; I had no idea that they were as spectacular as that. I will have to go back when the rock houses are open for a look inside. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Thanks for the history lesson and the views you just have a very interesting take on the world so i like to see your vlogs they just make a super weekend break from the rush and race of the modern world and zephyr is also supper calm and attentive to you see your next vlog stay healthy and safe Ed 40 S of Vegas xxxx
Hi Ed, thank you so much for your lovely comment. It is great to know that you find the vlogs calming. I hope you have a peaceful and super rest of the weekend, take care🌻🦋
I'm REALLY enjoying your vlog! 😃 It's going me a lot to consider about becoming a narrow boater! Like the NUMBER of locks to to have to navigate in such a short stretch! 6 in 3.5 miles?! Bicycle would be faster and less strenuous...lol. Is this typical of ALL canals? 😳 Like, for real...every 20 minutes there's a lock...
You’ve done it again Vanessa…another absolutely stunning vlog! Kinver looked a beautiful place to visit, I’ve never seen anything like those rock houses. I’ve not seen a Guinea fowl by the canal side before it looked at home with the ducks. Your poem and artwork was beautiful as usual. Stay safe and well Vanessa, Mr Mindful and Zephyr. X
🤗 Thank you so much, Shirley for your lovely comment. It was strange to see the guinea fowl by the canal. It flew over at one point which was incredible to see. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
🤭 Whoops! Are you supposed to say skippered for a narrowboat? You can tell that I don't really know what I'm doing can't you!😂 Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend🌻🦋
Another beautiful video and so talented! -30f windchill here yesterday so this was very refreshing. Guacamole, chips, sauerkraut, sandwiches 🤔 I might just try that.
Oh my goodness that is so, so cold; I hope that you are managing to stay warm? Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful week, let's hope that it heats up for you. Take care🦋🌻
iusually watch all my subscribed channels at least once but these videos i watc h 2-3 times the rock houses are very cool i hace first nation cave dwellings close to me another great cideo and oh yes the garden looks very nice
It is so lovely to know that you watch the vlogs a couple of times. I really appreciate that. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🦋🌻
Thanks for another great video Vanessa, I'm so lucky to have all that so close to where I live, not seen the Guinea fowl before though. You had some nice sunshine before the snow, take care x
You are lucky indeed! It is so beautiful in this area and there are so many wonderful stories to uncover too. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Christine. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
❤. What a lovely artist you are.🎨 I liked your vlog. I subscribe to another narrow boater, who also happens to be an artist but in a different way. Thanks so much for sharing 🎨 and 📖.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Sandra🤗 Who is the narrowboat artist that you watch? I think there is something about living on the water that makes you want to create things- I didn't start drawing until I lived on my boat. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
The atmosphere at the rock houses is peaceful yet deep. This weeks vlog makes me think, "why can't people today slow down to the pace which Kimber seems to be at?" I think that the hermit lady had the right idea as long as it was her choice and not because she was hiding from the likes of witch hunters. Hmm I can feel a story coming on ....... (from a hobby children's story writer ). Take care =-)
Hi Lorraine, I think your idea for a story sounds wonderful! I tried to find out more about Margaret-of-the-Fox-Earth, but there isn't much information about her. Her name fascinated me. I'll have to read your story instead. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Thank you so much for your question. I am working with a printing company at the moment so that I can make copies of my 2022 journal as viewers have asked to buy a copy. I don’t think I will publish though as it is too expensive. Have a super week, take care🦋🌻
They are such beautiful birds. That is the first one that I've seen up close and I was mesmerised by its detailed feathers and face. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Ah thank you, as always so much beauty, have a great weekend and a greater week ahead. Forgot to ask last week, what was the music you used? Take care and stay lucky
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I subscribe to a Music company called Envato Elements and I list the names and artists of each of the tracks I use in the description of the vlog. They have so many great artists and music choices. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Hi there, I don’t know whether you have time to answer 2 questions - one serious, one less so… But here goes: when you’re steering your boat, is there a constant smell of diesel from the engine exhaust? And, when bees search for pollen in amongst your bow-garden flowers, as you’re trundling along, are they then, say 20 mins later, still able to find their way back to their hives? I know they have an innate ability to fly and return to the same point, but what happens when that point has suddenly moved ½ a mile downstream. Anyway, happy waterfaring…
Thank you so much for your questions. I don't usually smell diesel as we're moving, maybe a bit when we start the boat. The HVO that I have used in my boat has no smell at all. Bees will fly up to 3 miles from their hive, but when we are moving, they make a quick stop and go. Hope this has answered your questions. Take care🌻🦋🐝
@@themindfulnarrowboat thanks mightily for taking the time to reply - and yes, I watched that episode when you made the switch over to HVO (it looks like a great step forward in helping waterway-boating leave dirty diesel behind). PS: I have a Mp3 audiobook of the irrepressible Kenneth Williams narrating Kenneth Grahame’s superb “Wind in the Willows” - from many, many years ago… Which I can’t but think would be perfect for you to listen to one stormy evening on your narrowboat… Am more than happy to send you over a copy, if your current set of river bank friends aren’t quite mischievous enough…
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Jennifer. You have asked a really good question as I have not sat down and drawn Zephyr before. I really want to now, so I shall try and find some time to do that. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Hi Christine, a great question which I should have answered in the vlog. I am sorry about that. Fenders are buffers to protect the boat paintwork from whatever it might come into contact with. The ones on the side can be tied to the sides or like the one that I showed hooked to the roof. I hope this answers your question. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Well £250 for that boat - am thinking we might need several platefuls of your sandwiches there while doing that slight bit of renovation 😂 And am fascinated by the name Stewponey lock Is that simply place name or I wonder where it comes from? Loved the guinea fowl both the real one and your drawing just stunning. Very calming as always Take care 🙏
Hi Margaret, you ask an excellent question about the name Stewponey. Some believe that it is based on a soldier who came back from war with his Esteponian wife and set up an Inn there. The locals' pronunciation of Estepona sounded like Stewponey and that is where the name stuck. That is what I read anyway? Thank you for your lovely comment and for the flowers too. Have a super weekend, take care and good luck with that boat renovation!🤭🦋🌻🤗

Yet another beautiful vlog. However, this time I'm licking my lips at the sandwich, as well as the scenery... Is that nine slices? Bet you had a little nap after that. 🥪😴
I am so pleased that you are enjoying the calendar. I was thinking of making some Christmas cards for next year instead of a calendar? Do you think that I should make another calendar? I'd love to know your thoughts, Wendy. Take care for now🌻🦋

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. 🤗 I really appreciate it. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Wow love your drawings there amazing wish I could draw like you I can't just about do a straight line ❤
Thank you so much for your wonderful adjectives. I appreciate each and every one of them so much! 😊 Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Stunning video - spectacular vistas.
Thank you so much, Phil! Take care🌻🦋
What a lovely super chilled video, thank you.
I am so pleased that you found it chilled- thank you so much!Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Kev😊
Your small holding with all of its animals sounds amazing 🤩 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
Take care🦋🌻
Stunning, wonderful, excellent, usual stuff, have a great week.
🤗 Thank you so much! That is so kind of you and I really appreciate your comment, Mike. Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🦋🌻

Welcome aboard, Alan!👋 Thank you so much for such a lovely comment too. Have a super rest of the week, take care🌻🦋

Great information! I rode on that steam train and it was a magical day! Thank you for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
So good to be here again. You are funny.
It is lovely to have you here again! Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🦋🌻
So true, in Chester the cathedral is 1000 years old.😊

the Guinea fowl looked so ancient and wise! what a gorgeous journey today...the sandstone formations are stunning and the rock houses intriguing.
I do enjoy the music you choose. Your illustrations are truly amazing along with your poetry. Thank you.
We had a pair of Guinea fowl when I was a kid funny birds roamed a two mile radius but came home to roost each night
Enchanting!!!!!

Some waterways have less locks or are lock free but I quite enjoy going through them. Thank you for your lovely comment, take care🦋🌻
Skippered the boat, not driving the boat, lol!
Loved the tourer of the area, looks so lovely ☺☺
🤭 Whoops! Are you supposed to say skippered for a narrowboat? You can tell that I don't really know what I'm doing can't you!😂 Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend🌻🦋

Kinver .... not Kimber sigh
Really nice camera work alot of narrow boaters I used to watch either got lazy and videos were not as good or the quit

Do think you will ever publish your note books?
Thank you so much for your question. I am working with a printing company at the moment so that I can make copies of my 2022 journal as viewers have asked to buy a copy. I don’t think I will publish though as it is too expensive. Have a super week, take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat Hard to believe a publisher does not see the value, of your odyssey. I do, and I suppose, that will have to do.
We kept guinea fowl as they make excellent guard "dogs"
They are such beautiful birds. That is the first one that I've seen up close and I was mesmerised by its detailed feathers and face. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Ah thank you, as always so much beauty, have a great weekend and a greater week ahead. Forgot to ask last week, what was the music you used? Take care and stay lucky

Hi there,
I don’t know whether you have time to answer 2 questions - one serious, one less so… But here goes: when you’re steering your boat, is there a constant smell of diesel from the engine exhaust?
Love your drawings and writings. Do you have one of your beautiful canine?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Jennifer. You have asked a really good question as I have not sat down and drawn Zephyr before. I really want to now, so I shall try and find some time to do that. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
You Pilot boats, not "Drive" them! Great video, keep 'em coming!
I keep forgetting that🤭 Perhaps that's where, I am going wrong! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
If those fenders were placed on the side of the boat when the sun comes up… you could call them “East Fenders”… 😳😳😳 Wurz me coat
😂😂😂 I love that! Still get your coat though!😂😂
@@themindfulnarrowboat lol 😂 I’ll wear my tank top next time 😂😂
Love your videos but what is a fender and what does it do? Beautiful picture!
@@themindfulnarrowboat Thank you.
