It's great to see some good lessons on shoegaze and post-rock.
Very helpful. Tommy Victor/Prong. Excellent taste in music. Folks, for all of you asking what distortion/setup he uses, he has been so kind as to build an entire website and links to everything is in the description of the video.
The good thing here is that you opened up a finger for me. Making the whole power chord with the 1st and 2nd is very cool. Leaves opportunities. Thanks!
At first I thought you were Kevin Parker xD
lmao
Dude literally same😂
it is Jesus in person
Lul
these lessons are so easy to take in. just goes to show how micing your stuff properly goes a long way even on youtube!
it sounded like knife party by deftones
That was one of my first exposures to this type of music as a kid. I loved the movie The Crow, and it was on the soundtrack.
Amazing tutorial and amazing t-shirt! :D
i just discovered the channel and it is very informative. Thank you so much for all your work
Awesome tone!!!
Thank you Corey!
Wow, nice channel! I've been trying to make my music sound dark and more gothic or black like, but didn't really succeed... But now you gave me whole lot of new ideas, thank you!
I heard little bit Bob Moulds Sugar and thats fantastic!
Love you man!
Yes, you're right!
This guy sounds completely like a university professor. The pentagram tattoo just breaks the stereotypes
Riff is very similar to the one partway through On A Plain by Nirvana. "Somewhere I have heard this before, in some dream my memory has stored. As defense I'm neutered and spayed. What the hell am I trying to say?". That part.
This video gives me strong Hum vibes
Same, really. I was mid-teens when the Crow came out, and was just starting to discover there was more to life than metal, lol.
Nice , those chords in that tuning and colouring remind me of Parkway Dr.
Gracias man!!... muy bueno!!
I get the Prong No question sound!
Very nice lesson! Thank you so much!
Greetings from Brazil! ]:-)
I love it
That's the one!
I was thinking the same thing, although I had the NIN version in my head.
Great tips! Sounds to me like some Killing Joke chords progression.
Cheers from France.
Please say “That’s not a power chord.. THIS is a power chord” like Crocodile Dundee
Nice pentagram tattoo man! \m/\m/
I get all mine from the Threadless clothing website now. This one was only 9.95!
A great unknown and underrated band, at least in my French speaking part of the world.
i love your lessons. my range is mainly thrash metal can i still use thrash style riffs like gallops and sixteenth note speed picking feel in black metal/doom not familar with that style to well but open to try anything in metal.
Ur awsome!
Nice shirt!
Hi gsogoz Thanks for the lesson! ... What pickup using in this SG?
at 7:00 started to play like Helmet...sound like that...
I LOVE Killing Joke : )
You are fucking great.......So helpful!
muito interessante obrigado
hahaha when you started playin that open g string i thought "that's tommy victor" and then you said "prong style".good tips and i think the song you're referring to is No Question
Nice groove. You should do a backing track that is 2-3 minutes long alternating the one at the beginning (straight power chords) and the one with the 9th chords at 7:00 for people to jam over.
Thanks for advices, thought i' dont like so much gain in the sound, i'm more into reverb and just a little gain?
You are so good! is there any video of you giving Sonic Youth noise advice?
Edu ML There's a few NIce Noise lessons here, but nothing specifically based around Sonic Youth.
Corey Hunter
Nice goat of Mendes tat.
the things you mention @ 3:30 are exemplaric for why i like your channel. you teach little things like conflicts between certain notes in relation to the strings that they're played on. you don't get that in yer average guitar teaching channel..maybe with marty schwartz. anyway it's these sort of ideas that are valuable to creating your own music
where can I get the drum and bass backing tracks?
Did you ever figure out which Prong song the G5 power riff borrows from? Love you riff, and I love Prong.
No Question from Cleansing.
haha where can i get that t shirt?
what pedal do you use.
what distortion u used ?
nice shirt.
Third or fourth video of yours I've watched (now subbed); my rhythm playing has improved a bit.
However I'm still one of those annoying hyper-active shred guys, lol
Played rhythm before in a few bands; and I can say in nearly any case your pinky is generally your best friend and sadly an often forgotten tool.....
The guitar is in D standard by the way
This would be massively improved by some vague tabs. But still this is really cool.
Hey Cory,
Where did you get that t-shirt? I want one of those.
+Mark Henry I I bought it on the website threadless.com
It was a while back, so it may not be available any more, but they do reprints from time to time on popular demand.
Gemini Guitar Thanks for the reply. By the way, I'm a subscriber. I watch all of your videos. You rock, dude.
There is only a half step difference other than the top string between the two tunings.
I don't see of these Metallic Style lessons on the Paetron. Will you be adding these?
I've got Shoegaze lessons there, which are similar in style.
Nice tattoo
Dat t-shirt.
how do you get that guitar tone it sounds so full
I was using Gearbox software from Line 6. There are many better options available these days.
is that Kenny wyane shepherd
What is the chord progression in 5:14-5:50?
hey gemini guitar please post groovy guitar techniques please
Very 90s chords
fency pickguard
Holy shit you look like Ross Scott from Accursed Farms!
Every good guitarist use suspended second pow chords
susp 2nd? they are 9ths
Bodycage they're 2nd power chord. It would show up on a chord chart as a G2 or C2 etc.
Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but what distortion are you using? It's fat as hell.
See link below video.
PWD is Drop B this is D Standart...?!
👍👍👍🇩🇪
D standard?
MrVr247 yes there too
Thank you for not being a hipster. It makes the world a better place.
what does this even fucking mean lol
Kevin parkers dad
You're saying F on fret 1, but it sounds like D#. I know you don't like people pestering you with WhAt TuNiNg ArE YoU iN??? But my ears say this is D Standard. So are you supposed to say the Note letter as what it would be in Standard tuning? Or the tuning you're at?
+Garth S I refer to the notes as if I were in standard tuning at all times so as to provide a 'standard' across all tunings and avoid unnecessary confusion. The point to naming notes is only to identify their location on the fretboard.
+Corey Hunter Ah. Thanks man.
em....so now thats confusing - with a different tuning u name a different notes than, they really are ? :) shit
