It's amazing to see how above the clouds it is still light but on the ground it's pitch black with the only thing lighting up the place is the city lights.
For some weird reason that thought never occurred to me until I read your comment. I'm really terrified of flying, so thank you for pointing that out! :)
I have a new profound respect for these pilots. It takes some serious nerves of steel to fly through stormy pitch blackness only to rely on your instruments and wits
On my last flight (2003) from Greece to U.K , I saw we had been struck on the wing by lighting , the pilot confirmed this and the fact it was his 13th lightning strike , the plane was totally unaffected , so no need to fear anything .
What an amazing experience!! Most people only see the lightning from the clouds to the ground. Seeing lightning that high above the clouds is truly a spectacular moment!! Thank you for sharing this!!
Thanks for not stopping then resuming video taping. It was nice to watch the entire descent (speeded up) rather than broken into segments:) Blessings:) 🌻
Wow, what spectacular footage presented here! What was particularly dazzling was the perspective that this offers in showing how the thunderstorm was frequently lit, as well as the newer convective towers forming along the flanking line!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Not that stupid of a question at all, I've been flying in the airlines for about 7 years now and I can say that unless you get struck it is very rare. I can recall at one point, landing on 10L in Pittsburgh, I had lightning bolt strike the ALSFF lead-in runway lights at around 30 feet ahead of us and I heard a rumble then, however I was more focused on the blinding of my vision now that there was a massive vertical inverted streak in my vision lol
Well not really? But i will have a fuckin heart attack if the storm or thunderstorm was close to the plane! Like why would they wanna fly Ina plane in a sereve massive thunderstorm weather type of thing? ARE THEY FUCKIN STUPID? Cuz I think they are?
im no flight expert but I think the airport was right below the storm so the pilots picked the easiest least violent part of the storm and dove through it as quick as possible thats why it only lasted a minute or so. I seriously doubt they are just being stupid.
Flew through a very violent thunderstorm leaving out of Vegas. Sat next to a young mom and her little boy. You know it’s bad when the stewardess gives you a look of fear. We thought we were going to die. The mom and I held hands while her little boy kept asking if we were going to outer space. Was glad when we finally landed.
Should ad that most everyone were throwing up. It started in the front and was moving down the isle like domino’s. We were randomly dropping and violently shaking back and forth. The young mom and I sat there holding hands not saying a word as you heard light crying all around. I remember thinking, I can’t believe I’m gonna actually die in a plan crash! But, we finally made it through. When we landed everyone was applauding. Leaving the plan I just looked at the pilot and smiled. Always wondered what happened to that young mom and her little boy..
Awesome capture, thanks for sharing! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description.
I am petrified of planes but watching this it kind of over comes my fears thank so much for uploading this if you didn't upload this I think I would of been scared of planes so thank you so much 💓
Man those storms looked intimidating with all of those lightning strikes in the clouds! Was the final approach to the airport bumpy and turbulent? I would be surprised if it wasn't! Magnificent video!
This actually helps :). Today I'll be going to Moscow and there's gonna be some scattered thunderstorms and I was really scared until I saw this video. Thanks for posting it :D .
One of my fears is flying in a thunder storm cause I’m a anxiety boi, however when this did happen for the first time in my life I was too tired to care
fat cat I don’t know about that, if you’re plane hit lightning, there’s about a 70% chance that plane would crash. As a matter of fact a lightning strike is 5x hotter than the sun.
Been in an airliner two times struck by lightening. Amazing that there was no damage. First time was at altitude. Second time was on take off from DTW on climb out. Both times sounded like a huge explosion. Scary.
Lightning strikes on aircraft are actually extremely common. More common than even the passengers realize. The tiny metal filaments you see sticking out of the trailing edge (back edge) of the wings are Static Discharge Wicks. As electrical energy hits the plane, it flows along the skin and is released by the Wicks back into the air, making the electricity completely harmless to the plane. Passengers have nothing to worry about.
I remember being in a plane on a weather like this..from USA to Europe...it was terrifying.. they changed the whole route because of the thunderstorm.. we also waited for like 4 hours before the plane took off...
The most impressive part of this video is the fact the plane lands safely and using normal landing procedure. Incredible what kind of conditions these machines can handle.
I just got back from DC and at 2am I sort of witnessed the same thing, except turbulence was much worse and all you could see was yellow flying by instead of black. You also got to hear the cries of all the other kids on the plane … everyone was spooked but I sat calmly, gotta be careful around those storms!
this reminds me of a dream i had. for some reason in it, i was morty from rick and morty, and we were on a plane going to hawaii. i dreamt that it was in a thunder storm and lightning hit the plane and we crashed but we survived and went back home and got right back on another plane and went to hawaii. then i woke up. dreams are weird and scary sometimes
One of the most important application of Guass's law that" inside an isolated conductor the net Electric field is zero" ....that's why the passengers is safe in airplane during lighting...🤔🤔🤔

Here's a stupid question: do you hear thunder on planes?
I didn't. Maybe if it was right outside the plane, but I would assume the engines are too loud and close to you.
