By this time in his tenure as Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys Barry Switzer had lost control of the team. He was pretty much just a figurehead at this point.
I always thought that Barry Switzer never got his due when he was the Cowboys Head Coach. Yes Jimmy Johnson picked many of the players and, with a few exceptions, hired the coaching staff. But, at the same time, how many other coaches would have come in and tried to put in a their own system. Say what you will about Barry Switzer, but the fact is he is only one of three men to have ever won both a National Championship in college and a Super Bowl in the pros as a head coach.
@Underground Guy Correct. Barry was a great coach we know that from college but he never got to coach Dallas as in pick players for a game plan and future for the team laid out by him. Jerry fired Jimmy to take direct control of that, there was no way Barry was ever going to be able to do it.
what a shocker a mike nolan defense thats last in the league against the run...lol.. fast forward to 2020 dallas defense...😒🤦♂️ how the hell did we hire that dud..
norv turner. he's got a QB sitting there on his bench that couldve taken this era of the redskins far in Trent Green and he didnt realize it until it was too late .
John Madden mentioned Deion covering Alvin Harper...his old teammate....they were never teammates though. Harper signed with Tampa Bay before Deion signed late with Dallas.
Deion Sanders was not a teammate of Alvin Harper. Harper left after the 94 campaign for a three peat, with Sanders helping end that possibility with the FortyWiners. Therfore unless they were teammates somewhere else like in high school or Pop Warner, because it wasn't college either, Sanders was a Seminole and Harper was a Volunteer
Summerall and the FOX camera crew really missed the drama on that last kick. They both assumed a make right away even though he hit the ball terribly and it drifted left all the way. They even took the camera off the ball so we couldn't see how close it was in real time. It would have been a real nail-biter had they called and filmed it correctly.
The late Pat Summerall,John Madden and Mike Doocy on the call of this game,Dallas final win in 1997 and the end of Barry Switzer.
RIP John Madden & Pat Summerall 🙏🏾🙏🏾🕊🕊
It was went 6 and 10 that year loved Troy aikman in this game by far my favorite Dallas cowboy of all time😎

Walker was showed as starting fullback, 29 mins into it, I still don't see him on the field.
12:39 “Daryl Johnston consistently was the best blocking fullback I’ve ever seen”- Madden

people forget that dallas actually got hershel walker back for a second stint with the team
Do you have 1997 Week 17 Giants @ Cowboys by a chance?
