Sorry this took so long to get out! I got so super busy recently, but normalcy has returned and I can try to get on a more consistent schedule! I want to do one more video in this entry series kind of laying out the ground floor level of lore for the world-building at what not. Then we'll get into all the nitty gritty red-string lore conspiracies and what not! Thanks for hanging out, and have a great weekend! =)

The idea that Ranni was created through the amber and this ‘rebirthing’ could’ve been a specific effort by Merricka to create a suitable replacement for her own throne, the creation would sort of be a clone of herself rather than this quasi incestuous relationship between her and radagon that may to be to blame for the cursed state of the other Empyrians.
This would also be more evidence for WHY it was Ranni thats supposed to take the place of Merricka, and why she felt there was so much predetermination to fight against.

I think it speaks volumes that Godwyn was Merika's most favored child considering just how powerful and honorable the other demigods were such as Malenia, Miquella and Radahn. That's why I believe it's testament to the fact that Merika truly does love Godfrey and only sent him away so that he could become even stronger and had every intention of taking him as her consort yet again once he returned to her. Furthermore I'd say that Godfrey absolutely loves Merika as well when you take into account how much Queen Merika's abandonment broke him and that since then only wished to return to her.. Honestly their story is so tragic but also beautiful at the same time and is definitely one of my favorites in the lore.

anyways not that i think marika loved godfrey, my interpretation its that radagon and marika were always one and the same, radagon was born a giant and communed with the elden ring, becoming marika so she could marry the strongest warrior hoarah loux she was probably involved in the night of black knives because it was part of her plan

Godfrey loves his kids even Morgott an omen, you can see Godfrey really did feel love for him.
I feel like Godfrey got sideswiped by Marika/Golden orders intentions.
Perhaps Marika felt bad about it later on and that can examine her sudden desperation to just end all the bullshit subservience.
Consciousness or something beyond Godhood happened to her

    • @Yul_B_Awright
      @Yul_B_Awright 2 года назад +6

then again there is a ghost in deeproot that contradicts the notion of Godwyn as her favored child. Don't remember the exact wording but it was along the lines of "soulless demigod, marikas unwanted child" and there is lots of evidence that points towards marika being involved in his assassination. For example the numen-rune description implies that Marika is from the numen race. The black knive set states that the assassins are also numen and rumored to have close ties to Marika. So why would the assassins, probably under Marikas command, make a deal to help Ranni to get rid of her empyrian flesh and kill Godwyn?
I think the favored child thing is only fassade. I don't mean that she explicitly wanted him dead, but she had no problem killing him when it was convenient for her or maybe she favored him in the beginning but began despising him later for reasons we still don't know. After Godwyns death she told Maliketh to seal away destined death, so death would never be stolen again (it is also explicitly stated that she betrayed Maliketh in either his remembrance, armor set or weapon desciption). Maliketh was her shadow (like Blaidd to Ranni) so he would go mad and kill her with the power of destined death if she were to go against the greater will. After he sealed the rune of death Marika became the eternal queen as she banished death from the lands between and rendered her shadow useless. Godwyn was probably a sacrifice for that cause and then she could shatter the Elden Ring without repercussions. Her intentions for doing so are still unclear though... However many at least believe (including for example Vaatividya according to his lorevideo) that she might have believed that principles have to be broken down to be understood and possibly corrected, so she might have given the tarnished the chance to change the golden order for the better, even though it would happen far in the future.

While I hate that Ranni killed Godwyn, maybe she intended to return his soul or took him out because he was the heir and possibly strongest of his siblings. If he'd lived, he would have easily taken the throne, considering how he easily bested a dragon and was dubbed "The Golden". I also feel infinitely sorry for Miquella, trapped in the body of a child while his siblings go to war, having not the strength or ability to stop them, then to top it off, he's kidnapped and forced to become a consort. Not even his sister knows he's gone. But a special shoutout to MVP Finley for carrying his general home

I believe Melina to be one of the demigods as well, probably an empyrean, direct sibling to Malenia and Miquella.
First and most obviously, the naming scheme can't be a coincidence. All the children of each pairing of demigods have similar names. Radagon and Renalla's children are Rs: Rykard, Radahn, Ranni (though her parentage is indeed in doubt if she's an empyrean, but she was clearly raised as a child of Renalla), and probably Renna. The children of Marika and Godfrey are Godrick, Godwyn, Godefroy -- the Omen twins Mohg and Morgott are likely named differently because of the stigma of being cursed Omens. (Correction: Godrick and Godefroy are further down the lineage, descendants of presumably Godwyn; not direct children of Marika and Godfrey. Still, there is a clear naming convention here identifying their ancestry.) The empyrean twins of Marika and Radagon are Malenia and Miquella -- "Melina" fits right in with them. All were born cursed by an outer god: Malenia with the scarlet rot, Miquella with youth, and Melina as the Kindling Maiden, destined to burn the Erdtree itself (Blade of Calling).
We know Melina was born at the foot of the Erdtree, given a task by her mother from within it, which she recalls at Leyndell is to burn down the Erdtree. She can hear Marika's past words at each of the churches. Melina is disembodied and needs to attach herself to a Tarnished to get her spirit to the foot of the Erdtree, presumably where her body is. The only person inside the Erdtree is Marika herself, imprisoned by the Greater Will -- that makes Marika Melina's mother. Couldn't be any other demigod chosen by another Outer God because they all have different symbols: we know from Turtle Pope's description of Radagon and Renalla's war that Marika was the house of the Tree and Renalla the Moon, and I'm sure other Houses are out there (the Gloam-Eyed Queen, the Dragons, the Giants, the Serpent, probably more). Furthermore, we know Marika gave others tasks against the Greater Will: she forced Hewg to smith for Tarnished until he made a weapon strong enough to kill a god, for example.
It's clear there's some kind of link between Melina and Ranni: "a gift from Torrent's former owner" and all that. Ranni plotted the Night of Black Knives, and she would have absolutely known of the curse on Melina. She would need the power of the demigod capable of burning the Erdtree for her new age to come to fruition, so she would have sought Melina's aid. (Though if that part failed then she would still be freed of the influence of the Greater Will and her assigned Fingers.) Ranni's spirit inhabiting the doll also looks strikingly similar to Melina, so much so that most people have assumed a deeper connection... but could it just be a family resemblance? (I wonder how Malenia's face shape lines up with Melina's, if it's as eerily similar as Ranni's spirit's face.) The Black Knife Assassins fight with daggers patterned after Melina's Blade of Calling imbued with Destined Death, and fight in a similar style, as if she trained them.

If Ranni was the offspring of Radagon alone, making her an empyrean, then she inherited 100% genes from him. Her original body was human sized, not giant sized. Radagon was not of giant blood. Radahn grew to enormous size after his mastery of gravity magic, it probably affected him in some way unrelated to his parentage.
Radagon was angry to be associated with the giants because of his red hair, not because he was actually cursed by the giants(the item description noted it was rumoured, not a fact) but because he was not. His red hair was more likely to be associated with the red wolves, from which may be part of his origins. Radagon was the one who learnt glintstone magic from the academy, why would all the red wolves be able to use them unless they shared a link somehow? Is it really ever said that an Empyrean must be someone born only of gods? It’s definitely said that Melania and Miquella were Empyrean because they were born of one god, but I’m not sure there’s any evidence to suggest that this is the ONLY way to be Empyrean. In fact, it is stated that the Gloam-eyed queen was an Empyrean “chosen by the two fingers.” This is an important point to get right, because it is the only “evidence” to suggest that Rennala isn’t Ranni’s birth mother

    • @TheAshenHollow
      @TheAshenHollow  2 года назад +11

Yes, the Two Fingers will go out and choose an Empyrean they believe should succeed Marika. But the definition of Empyrean itself means heavenly or celestial. Which I believe lends more to the whole single God thing, or potentially of two gods. But there was only ever one fornicating with themselves that we know of.

I think that the whole born of one God thing is unique to Milenia and Miquella- and its an odd coincidence that these two characters are also said to be cursed from birth. I believe it alludes that the 'curses' are similar to birth defects because of the fact that it's from one being. Ranni on the other hand I believe was chosen to be an Empyrean- I don't believe she is born from one God alone

@@kobragaming9420 i saw a different video on here delving into Melina that I found very interesting.
The theory there was that the gloam eyed queen was the rune of death, and Radagon was the rune of order. Runes made flesh basically.
And when maliketh defeated death and bound the rune in his sword he trapped the gloam eyed queen.
But when ranni stole a piece of the rune of death and started the whole thing she created Melina, as a mingling of ranni herself and the gloam eyed queen. Hence the fact that she looks like Melina, but has the gloam eyed queen's purple eye, held shut with a crow's talon tattoo. It opens when you do the frenzied flame ending without letting melina sacrifice herself.
On the subject of ranni though. I agree that there's nothing in the game that says being born of a single God is a requirement for being an empyrean. Only that because they were born of a single God melina and miquella were empyreans.

Empyreans are children of true god's, So Ranni is one because she is born to Radagon and Renalla. You're correct, it doesn't have to be one god, it saying that the twins were born of one god and had complications is just the game teasing at the big secret of Radagon and Marika being the same, essentially saying that Melania and miquella are selfcest babies, not that empyreans must be of one god.

I'm not sure that's the case though, I mean people want to tie Empyrean to being the child of a God because the word relates to the sky/heavens.
But from what I've read it simply means the Fingers have choosen someone to be the "God" of the next age, and the heavens being referred to are the realms of the Outer Gods who live amongst the stars.
And we know of four Empyreans, the twins who were born of a single God; Ranni who is a demi-God, and the Gloam Eyed Queen, who we know nothing about.
And although we aren't given titles, it's probably a fair assumption that the Dragon Elden Lord you can fight served as consort to a God as well, and that God was the Empyrean of an Outer God.

Yeah, the myth that Empyrean is a race in the first place is pretty widespread at this point.
Now, Melania's Rememberance definitely makes it sound like there are two guarantees *IF* you happen to be born of God Selfcest- 1 that you will be an Empyrean and 2 that you will be born with defects (Miquella eternal youth Melania Scarlet Rot).
People seem to forget that Marika is an Empyrean as well. My take is that those who are born into being an Empyrean are not granted shadows but those that are chosen by the fingers (and thus the Greater Will) are granted Shadows. This is supported because Marika and Ranni are both chosen and weren't born into being an Empyrean. As far as it looks so far, if you are Born from One God you are a seriously strong being destined for Godhood (as Melania literally became the Rot Goddess in her second phase) but you are cursed.
I think Empyrean is just another word for someone who is likely to ascend to Godhood, as only a God can replace Marika.

I just imagine all the demigods being kids or preteens with someone asking them what they wanted to be when they grow up. Radahn riding around on Lenard's back with twin black wooden swords going "I'm going to be the best worrior just like Uncle Godfrey!" Malenia and Miquella just enjoying eachohter with Mohg hiding drawing him and Miquella holding handd. Morgott praying to a pitcher of the tree when not practice fighting. Ranni trying to sound older deadpan goes, "I'm going to have the rune of death carved into my brother's back and shed this tiny body to be a doll." Then someone just looks at Marika, Radogon, and Godfrey just to say, "Your all freaking weird."

The description about twins Melania and Miquella, say that they are Empyrean because they are children of a single god., does not mean these word is reversible.
You buy food because you are hungry, does not necessary mean that you hungry because you buy food.
All it say in the game is that an Empyrean is the next in line for god should the current god fall.
So the first statement only mean that one way to be Empyrean is you are child of a single god, but it does not say that is the ONLY WAY. so Ranni does not need to be child of a single god to be Empyrean.
So it is just up to the Greater Will to determine if you "qualify"
I am sure Marika is also Empyrean because she was chosen to be the vessel, but there is no record that Marika is from single god, in fact, it most likely she is not... Why would you choose to be puppet of some outer god when you already all powerful ? It not like the golden lineage is "almighty and unstoppable". Queen Renela and the combine army certainly held the fight well (twice), and she is of no demi god or above (at least not stated in the game).
So I would say Marika was not that powerful when she was chosen. but she may still be an Empyrean

That theory about why Ranni is an Empyrean is so good! Still, do we know for sure that the only way to be an Empyrean is to be born of a single god? Could't she have also been granted that title from the two fingers, who saw in her a new great potential ruler?
Anyway, this was a great video! My favourite demigods' stories are Morgott's and Ranni's. I also really like Miquella's reasons and story but obviously we never get to talk to him or know his personality. Maybe in a DLC!

Empyrean is defined as heavenly or celestial, which think goes more hand in hand with the birth of a single god. I think it could be possible to be Empyrean if you're born from two full on gods, but as far as we know that isn't what's happening.

While Morgott is my favorite demigod and is a certified bamf, I don't think he's ever bested Radhan. The guy in the picture is too small to be Radahn, who is litterally a giant. I think it's just a Radahn knight mob from his army

No, he pretty clearly has Radahn's gauntlets on there. This is either a MUCH younger Radahn (keep in mind Morgott is still an Omen which are huge), or possibly Rykard, his brother. The only reason I'd consider that is because the soldiers don't have the telltale tusks of the Redmanes.

I just realised how the large amounts of duality characters seem to exhibit maybe a direct analogy to how The greater will is also split between its two halves, order and chaos.
The fact that the three fingers ,the denizens of the frenzied flame complete a hand with the two fingers implies they have a connection. The golden order is all about just that, order whereas the direct opposite to order is chaos or in other words frenzy. The fact that many characters seem to also adopt this split maybe due to the The greater will separating itself from its other half. Radagon and Marika are 2 parts to a greater whole but also minor characters such as D and his brother are supposedly of two minds with one soul. It’s also speculated Ranni and Melina are two aspects of one being.
Maybe the people who live in the lands between are affected by the God that possesses the land and whatever this being does to itself is directly expressed by its followers and inhabitants. Maybe the reason Radagon and Marika split directly correlates to when the frenzied flame was created by the separation of the two split sides of one coin, order and chaos. It would also explain why Marika was willing to directly cause chaos whereas Radagon wanted to restore order while them still having one soul.

Like revealing something about a boss or character that I haven't met yet, or have met but don't know everything about them but then eventually will discover new info about him after beating him or progressing in their quest line kinda thing. Let's say he/she is a unique example of hermaphrodite ( common in earth worms) then how can they have personality clashes over breaking and mending of elden ring. Honestly my only complaint about the lore of this game is that the names are so hard to keep straight. I spent my entire first playthrough mentally combining Godfrey and Godwyn, thinking that Godwyn was the first Elden Lord, and that he was also the first to die, which made him ALSO the Prince of Death who Fia wanted you to not mess with, but then he shows up first in spirit form and then in the flesh at the end of the game and like....what. All that confusion would have been avoided if I had just realized they were two separate people, but you hear the names so infrequently that I didn't realize there were TWO other "God-" names aside from Godrick, and two separate people to go along with them.
And we just don't talk about Godefroy.
