Very cool video! I just bought a new 2024 DR650 yesterday, I can't wait to start fixing it up the way I want it. Your videos are very helpful and informative, keep them coming brother.
Congrats! Mine's an '09, and it's the bike I'll keep. There is a fat aftermarket, as I'm sure you know. The DR is inexpensive for what you get. The trick is modding it for what you want to do with it. Commuter/weekend dirtbike? Serious dirt riding? Solo camping? Hardcore adventure bike? Motard? Someone's done it, and they had the parts. At a minimum, I'd change the seat, unless you got it for motocross. It's great for that. If you like to sit down sometimes, you'll want something else.
I just bought one yesterday! I ordered a tusk tank bag and a tail rack already and can't wait to mod it, but i think i'm going to take my time with it and break it in first. Congrats on your new bike. I also own a Heritage classic for my street bike. Can't have too many bikes!
I've got a 2017 dr650. And ever since I got it. I've been looking for quality videos about it. And since I've found you. I can't stop watching them. Thank you for taking the time to actually explain the things you are doing. Also, I've been looking at pipes for awhile now. And I think I found the one lol fmf is way out of my budget.
Glad I could help, Matt! Have fun with your build. After a couple months with this exhaust, I can tell you it is AMAZING. All stainless, and sounds amazing. Changing the gearing is a 'must' in my opinion. After some time with the 14-44, I think I'm going to gear it even lower. I see no reason to lose torque / power for the sake of speed, when these aren't long range highway bikes. Maybe jump the rear up to a 46 or so. Have fun! Email me if you have any questions. I'd love to chat, and see pics of your build!
Is it the round or the oval exhaust , have a xf650 freewind , same engine as the dr 650 just dual carbed ,👍😎(think it's the round one after skipping back to the start)👍👍
I just installed this kit in my DR and it sounds fucken great. STRONGLY recommend if you’re looking for a loud pipe. Best purchase so far for the bike. 💪🏼
One of the best DR650 muffler presentations. I have tried the FMF Q4, while it is super lite. I had reliability issues even though I had changed carb jet kit, opened up the air box. So I am back with stock exhaust with tapered needle, open air box and are happy with the performance. I don't like noisy bikes in forests and bush where I ride.
I’ve got a 2013 dr 650., I went down to a 13 ft sprocket and I had to put in a Kevlar clutch because it was too fast for the trail. I burned the old clutch out.. much better now. I changed my carburetor to a TM40 pumper.. then I found two mufflers for a hyabusa 1300 so I have an extra. Plus I put on a Procycle power bomb header and midpipe.. oh yeah it goes now… but I’m too old to ride anymore 😢 so it’s just sitting in my garage. Oh I put a six gallon tank on too..
Just installed this on my '23 DR the other day with help from your video. Installation was easy except for the midpipe, which was a tight fit in the header. Sounds amazing, well worth the money.
@@TheGamerOMT I had to scrape at the liner that was on the pipe to make it a little thinner. From there, it was a matter of having enough elbow grease to get it on. Definitely more of an art than a science.
How's this pipe holding up? I had a hard time deciding which pipe to get, the dominator looks good and has a large enough can so it should be kinda quiet but it has no mid pipe mounts at all, the only thing supporting the entire pipe is the strap hanger in the back and the flange at the head, that's not good. I just put the dan moto pipe on my 2014 dr650, it has 2 mid pipe mounts like stock, so I knew it would be solid but I knew it was super loud too. I fabbed up a quiet core for it before even riding the bike with it. It's still loud but it was ridiculous without it. If the can fails, I'll use the good mid pipe to mount a used sport bike can like others have done or a used muffler off a 450 or 500 ktm, they'll mount up easy to the mid pipe and be quieter. Wait until you open the air box up, grind the header weld down and rejet, the bike pulls way harder down low after you do, it also gets even louder. I've been running with the air box modded, a dj jet kit and the header pipe weld ground down for over a year, even with the stock pipe it made it pull much harder down low.
Sounds good. I think it’s funny when people think an exhaust system for a DR 650 is loud. I thought the Vance and Hines straight pipes on my Harley Dyna Wide Glide were loud! LOL. Good video, also as a mechanic by trade the air / fuel mixture produces a controlled burn I.e. combustion not an explosion. 😃
How the hold up on the exhaust been? Are the quality good enough for the price. Interested in buying a set for my street triple. The SC project are quite a bit more expensive. But if the quality is not great. I'd rather choose the SC project
Looking at exhaust videos for the Dr650 and found this one. I heard the accident and knew it sounded familiar, first time I found a youtuber from NL! Shout out from Mount Pearl!

Found your channel cuz I’ve been thinking about adding a DR to the garage. I’m old and do more sedate gravel/fire road riding. Wheelies are a thing of my youth when falling didn’t hurt so much and bones weren’t as brittle. I love this exhaust sound. Do you know if I could change out the can to the one you have without doing all the air box and jetting mods. I know zero about carbs. I’d need to lower mine too and saw your video about that. Cheers from out west.
I'm installing my dominator exhaust tomorrow along with the Procycle Jet kit and the head pipe. Going to to do my airbox just like you did it and the 155 jet. Thanks for the vid as it has motivated me to do the swap.
I also have the dominator muffler on mine, i love it. I think it is the best sounding exhaust on the dr650. They are well made too, i used to be a production supervisor for an OEM exhaust manufacturer and i can tell they make quality stuff. With the db killer out the pipe is stupid loud.
Just got a 1995 DR650R. Wanting an exhaust for it... How is the Dominator exhaust holding up ? Thinking about getting one similar as yours. Thanks for the information!
Hey Kyle, have you noticed the mid pipe bend makes the muffler sit further under the bike? I’m concerned that the tyre will hit the muffler when the suspension is compressed. The original sits further out then this unit. Your thoughts?
Yes, I actually had that problem at first, but I just loosened at the bent the tail pipe bracket as far out as possible, and then tightened everything down. It was perfect then. No issues afterwards
Hi Mate, i have a 2019 DR 650SE and would love to put a Dominator pipe on my bike, problem is they do not have one for a 2019 DR 650, the only one even close is a 1996 to 1913 Dominator , i was wondering if you know if the pipe is the same size at the join at the mid pipe, as you know the Dr has changed very little over the years and hopefully the 1913 pipe will fit, they cant tell me any information about it, no actual mid pie size or anything to help me. any help would be great.
The pipe will fit the exact same as the bike has not changed since the early 2000s. If you ever question the fitment of parts just use a online parts catalog to cross reference part numbers between differing years.
Did you ever add a bracket on the mid pipe to help stabilize the whole system .. or have you had any trouble with your header bolts if you haven’t Thx in advance
Couple of questions you might know that I can't seem to find off of the manufacturer's website or on any forums if you don't mind. Is this a glass pack muffler that needs to be repacked or a maintenance free system? Also does it have a spark arrester or can you fit one to it? TIA.
From inspection, I believe it's a maintenance free system. Also, there is a baffle not not technically a spark-arrester. There are tons of cheap universal ones on ebay though!
I really wanted to buy one of these for my DR650 but there's no spark arrestor in them (I contacted the company and asked them). I live in an area where forest fires are a major risk, so it's a no go for me. Anyone riding off road with this pipe should be aware!
Im thinking about making a spark arrestor for mine when i get a welder next month, you dont really need a Forrest service approved one, ive never even heard of a ranger checking markings.
I was trying to look up differences on models, I have a 2013 dr650, but this pipe says its for up to 09 models, when I tried seeing if it was different with the exhaust I can't seem to see it is. So do you think it would fit, only differences i could see it bigger carb, and bigger tank
Is it true that by derestricting the bike (air box, rejet, and exhaust) you can actually improve the MPG? I have seen this claim from people about other carbureted bikes.
@@superwilcox9026 What I figured. But I have seen people claim that by de-restricting the engine, they actually got better fuel mileage. My only guess is they don't have to ride the bike as hard on the throttle to access the same level of power. Thanks for the response.
The link didn't work for me. Do you know if it has a spark arrestor? I couldn't see if you had one in there on the video. Sounds real good though. I like what you've done so far.
Kyle there is all kinds of stuff on RUclips about the dr 650 why don’t you check out Rocky Mountain atv or adventure oz. they have lots of upgrades on it, especially the front sprocket, a lot of people go to a 14 first and the wider version so it takes up more on the splines. Take it easy.
I have watched all of OZ's content.. and most of RM ATV. That's still a VERY small selection of decent content though, compared to so many other bikes and topics.
G'day Kyle, mate I'm looking at getting the 2020 DR650, I've tried to find a dominator can but can only find them to suite DRs up to '09. I'm presuming that as the engines have stayed the same since the late 90s, will any of these pipes from the 90s series onwards fit? Probably a stupid question but this will be my first DR so thought I should ask someone who may know. Keep up the great vids . Cheers mate.
Matthew Duncan I take it you're on a 2020 DR then? Would love to hear how you get on. I'll have to run mine in before I fit new exhaust so will take maybe two to three weeks. Cheers.
Sean Hamann I got a 2019, just got the muffler installed. Fits good sounds awesome. Def take the resonator out, with it in it almost sounds the same as stock. You’ll wake up the dead with this dominator!
I just bought the dominator exhaust but the mid pipe they sent me will not fit my 2020 Dr650! Would you happen to know the dementions on your mid pipe? I’m planning on taking it to a muffler shop to have that section made! Any help would be appreciated!
Did u get popping when letting off the throttle after u installed the pipe, and can this damage your engine? I am getting popping sound with my new delkevic exhaust..
Decibel killed is just a small metal insert. Basically a baffle. Doesn't look any different from the side with it in. When looking at the end of the tail pipe, you just see a smaller hole. Popping can happen. Might need to play with your air-fuel mix now that it's getting all that air out so easily. It won't harm your engine, but it is a little annoying.
@@kyle_noseworthy No I like the popping sound just worried about what some are saying about damage to engine, I would assume the baffle/decibel killer is already installed in the exhaust when u get it not sure, also what kind of tires do u recommend for 70 on road 30 to 20 off. One more thing, have u put hand guards / barkbusters on yours . I don't want to have to modify mine, and hearing nightmares about that also.
Hey Kyle, Nice video. Thank you. Would you say this exhaust is too loud for local city driving? I live in the burbs and commute to work occasionally. But will also go for some extended rides and likely some rustic camping trips. Thanks
I think it's plenty manageable if you drive it very lightly. It really sings when you hammer on the throttle, but when just idling along it isn't bad. It sounds SO GOOD.
Just picked up a 2021 may be the last year in this model. I heard guys run GSXR 1000 exhaust can and work well and super light. Your setup is the best one I have seen.
Sounds great my sherco has a aprocavoch great sound and power but the sound of the big bore fourstroke is great and it will get smoother with time Dr great All-Round reliability
Will this pipe fit my 2020 DR650? eBay listing says 97 / 09 So I am a little apprehensive. Can’t seem to find any contact information for dominator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What year is your bike?
will the db insert lower power or air flow? i have a dominator on my 06 dr650 and i been thinking about putting the insert back in but i don't want too restrict the flow at all.. i just ordered the dominator header pipe but i don't get it until September 14th..🥱
you didn't show grinding the flange in side the header pipe, did you do that ? if not you need to take the header pipe off completely and where it bolts to the head , on the inside of the pipe there is the remnants of a flange that suzuki used to weld the ring of the header pipe onto the pipe itself... that obstruction serves to disrupt the flow of exhaust out of the engine... use a die grinder and a rotary file or just a round file and grind that entrance into the exhaust pipe so it is smoothe and as unobstructed as you can get it. then you'll have to re adjust your air /fuel mixture once again.... that should make a huge difference in the running of the engine ! Suzuki has a reputation for leaving crap like that in the airways for some reason, in my experience back in the day the suzuki 250cc 2 stroke cylinder was not matched to the engine casings very well at all, of the big 3 yamaha was the best made at the time but all of them had 1/4" of gasket material in the transfer ducts from the bottom end up to the cylinder ports... a horrible oversight , todays 4 stroke Monsters are better about that but not by much, think of the engine as an air pump for high velocity air, the more volume you can get out the exhaust, the more power you will get out of the machine. Why the manufacturers of the 650 single 4 stroke machines use a small exhaust header pipe is unknown, where is the logic in that ? they could have used a 1.5" exhaust pipe all the way to the muffler and been so much better off ! but I guess they did it for gas economy , not power.... most believe you can have one or the other, but not both, and they are totally wrong ! I've tuned my bikes for max power for years, yes My gas mileage went down... because I used MORE throttle not less, but if you consider that your engine is making more HP you need to use LESS throttle to do the same work ... but I always couldn't resist twisting that throttle just a bit more.....even cruising ! so economy at the expense of HP is a big MYTH ! don't believe it ! I knew a fella that had a 500hp engine in his El camino, and he got 40mpg ! simply because the engine wasn't working hard at normal road speeds. You can have just as good of fuel economy with a more powerful engine than stock, but you won't , simply because it's just to fun to ride when you have crisp power between your legs ! LOL......
H'mmm well sir,...noise doesn't 'usually' translate into 'power' but maybe re-jetting the carb and enlarging the air box might. We'll see won't we. I wish you'd use those foot peg's Kyle, seeing you ride like that gives me the 'creeps'!
Noise unaccompanied doesn't do much in a general case, but when you have an engine that is extremely oppressed / restricted, a release of some of that pressure can help ease the engine some. Keep an eye out for an upcoming video for more mods ;-) Also, as for the foot pegs, give me a break! lol 99% of the time they're on the pegs. You can't see what terrain I was struggling over in the clip, making me drop my foot that time for fear of losing the bike
@@kyle_noseworthy I went back and watched this again, and I have a question. I saw a review on this pipe where the customer said he had trouble installing this pipe with pannier racks. @@PracticalTacticalSheepDog if you remove your snorkel you have to shim the needle up 3MM and adjust your mixture, then she will rip!!
Is it true that by derestricting the bike (air box, rejet, and exhaust) you can actually improve the MPG? I have seen this claim from people about other carbureted bikes.
Anytime you size up on the jets it uses more gas.
@@superwilcox9026 What I figured. But I have seen people claim that by de-restricting the engine, they actually got better fuel mileage. My only guess is they don't have to ride the bike as hard on the throttle to access the same level of power.
Thanks for the response.
bigger jet...more fuel going in...true. But, by opening up box and pipe you compensate...so yes, you can get better mpg while increasing performance.
No, it uses about 10% more. Used to go to 200 km before reserve now about 180 km. Runs way better though.
David J what you are saying makes more sense to me.
Do u have to buy the mid pipe separately, Or does that price include a mid pipe. And if not will the end pipe go on the stock exhaust?
Mid pipe included!
@@kyle_noseworthy mine is a 2018 will it fit?
The link didn't work for me. Do you know if it has a spark arrestor? I couldn't see if you had one in there on the video. Sounds real good though. I like what you've done so far.
No, it does not have a spark arrestor.
I wonder I'd it fit my xr650 l
Looks like your next upgrade should be DDC and springs up front :)
Just ordered a 96-09+ dominator we’ll see in a few weeks if it fits!
Did y’all have to rejet or just pipe mod?
I speak french but your explaination is so great , so funny too. So i understand, you love the DR650🫡Tank's man
I just bought the dominator exhaust but the mid pipe they sent me will not fit my 2020 Dr650! Would you happen to know the dementions on your mid pipe? I’m planning on taking it to a muffler shop to have that section made! Any help would be appreciated!
i own a dr650 2021 and was wondering if the dominator exhaust system would fit, thank you for your comments. how did it turn out for you ?
Did you ever get it to fit? What exactly was the problem why would it not fit?
@@jotom4039 Did you ever get the dominator to fit your 2021?
Does that pipe have a spark arrester.
No, it does not
Sounds great!
Great video and very nice sounding pipe. How does the bike run now without any modifications to the air box and carby? Cheers.
Hey Kyle,
Nice video.
Is the freewind xf650 freewind the same engine as the dr650??
Almost. Xf has different cylinder head and double carb. But the rest is the same.
Did you put on a new header pipe or just the slip on??
Cheers
I kept the original suzuki header, but reduced the inner weld at the flange!
Why sound improvement over time?
Carbon build up can sometimes make them sound smoother as it smooths the joints up in exhaust system
What about performance man?
What year is your dr
No baffle sounds great :-)
agreed!
Will this pipe fit my 2020 DR650? eBay listing says 97 / 09 So I am a little apprehensive. Can’t seem to find any contact information for dominator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What year is your bike?
Did you ever find out if this will fit the 2020 DR650?
@@dillonpresswood8200 I ordered one to put it on my 2020, but Fedex lost it so they gave me a refund. Did you ever find out if it will fit on a 2020?
Did it come with a db killer included?
yes
will the db insert lower power or air flow?
i have a dominator on my 06 dr650 and i been thinking about putting the insert back in but i don't want too restrict the flow at all.. i just ordered the dominator header pipe but i don't get it until September 14th..🥱
Sounds good mate.
It sounds great actually !!
Nice and clean looking too....well done sir 👍
I'm liking it man! Thanks!
Sounds sooo goood 🎉
Kyle, don't forget to keep those feet on the pegs! ( sarcasm!) Great video! Great rider. Great bike! Happy New Year!!!!!
stock exhaust weights just short of a metric ton
Does this fit on a 2020?
Did you ever find out if it will fit a 2020?
That is one sexy sounding pipe, holy fuck.
Finally a great detailed video of this exhaust! One Like and one Subscriber. 😄
That's the best sounding exhaust for a dr650 I have heard
you didn't show grinding the flange in side the header pipe, did you do that ?
if not you need to take the header pipe off completely and where it bolts to the head , on the inside of the pipe there is the remnants of a flange that suzuki used to weld the ring of the header pipe onto the pipe itself... that obstruction serves to disrupt the flow of exhaust out of the engine... use a die grinder and a rotary file or just a round file and grind that entrance into the exhaust pipe so it is smoothe and as unobstructed as you can get it. then you'll have to re adjust your air /fuel mixture once again.... that should make a huge difference in the running of the engine !
LOL......
Kyle, learn to keep your feet on the pegs. That is the most confident and skilled way to ride.
They are 99% of the time. Please don't judge a rider by a single clip :-)
@@kyle_noseworthy Not judging you, Kyle. I was just trying to keep you from breaking an ankle or foot.
Keep an eye out for an upcoming video for more mods ;-)
Also, as for the foot pegs, give me a break! lol 99% of the time they're on the pegs. You can't see what terrain I was struggling over in the clip, making me drop my foot that time for fear of losing the bike
@@kyle_noseworthy Yeah, OK on both counts LOL!
Best or fastest riders in woods, motocross or desert put feet down on those special occasions
My bike is a 2017 . I’m just mad about it
Why they rev them to 3k smh
I checked out a few of your past videos, as well as this one, of course. You have a good channel. New sub.
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
@@kyle_noseworthy I went back and watched this again, and I have a question. I saw a review on this pipe where the customer said he had trouble installing this pipe with pannier racks. I have the Dirtracks pannier racks (with the bar around back). Do you see this pipe as being a problem with my style racks? I'll be honest, I don't see an issue, and I'm wondering where this rating customer is coming from. Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks.
@@kentuckyjustice1408 id love to help man, but ive never had racks of any kind so I couldn't tell you. The pipe still has to lay beneath the side panel, so I cant see that it protrudes much more than the stock muffler!
@@kyle_noseworthy That's what I was thinking. I can't see how it would interfere either. Thanks for your response. BTW, the shop is really coming along.👍

Great videos but i would have to say the FMF Q4 sounds better, DEFINITELY looks better IMO. That just looks out of place to me.. great content though and video presentation. Just not the pipe for me.. i love the FMF Q4 on mine with the Bomb header
It's a "burn" not an "explosion" otherwise good vid
👍❤🇵🇱
A bit too loud for me
I got one for my DR650. They wanted feedback. So I told them only reason I got pipe is because of your channel and information. They should do something for ya cheap pricks.
Thank you Jeffrey! haha Some companies just don't want to play ball. Imagine how many pipes I have sold for them because of this one video..
cover up the dominator logo, why advertise for them if you paid full price.
Talk too much... we we wanne hear noise why nobody does any flyby with this pipe.. Boring
Too loud.
So now everyone who makes videos thinks they should've been given everything for free? Right... Pity
It's clear that the pipe didn't have many reviews so the concept that they might be willing to get a quality review video for under $300 doesn't sound that crazy to me, if anything he's helping them.
Lay off the coke bro..
Your name suits you. How about getting a tissue because many people are not impressed with you sniffing and carrying on. Please.
