    • @Sasquatch33
      @Sasquatch33 2 года назад +2

      @@Oskarjlee Exactly, this song is more endurance and accuracy based rather than difficult. And I'm not saying this song isn't difficult or that Hakke is a worse drummer, but a good portion of this song is just learning the parts then being able to accurately repeat them. Neils style as drummer was more technical and melodic while adding in little accents to his drumming that makes a lot of rush songs stand out. It's like the same conversation with Bonham and Neil. Bonham could create a blues sounding groove in almost any situation while Neil could do some crazy double pedal jazz stuff. All 3 are great drummers, just different styles.

    • @Sasquatch33
      @Sasquatch33 2 года назад +2

      @@SpiritofPoisonWell that depends on your definition of technical. A lot of Haake's stuff is really technical (time signature wise) (polyrhythms) but when you watch Neil's drums solos or even listen to some of his songs like Xanadu or Villa strangiato his snare and hi hat work is on a differnet level compared to other drummers in a Jazz technical way. I'm not saying anyone's better than anyone or that it's not technical but like I said, two different styles. Because Haake for sure has Neil beat in double pedal work and complicated rhythms but Neil was definitely better with utilizing his whole drum set.

If i had a million years to practice this i would never be able to do it. I used to think i was a good musician come to find out i never knew what that even meant. I second this great comment. Good way of putting it. Honestly, I've been saying it for years- Haake isn't a human, he is a drum machine cyborg or something of that order, he is programmed, and operates in binary code. Would also go as far to say that this song is one of the greatest metal drum compositions ever, if not number one...EVER. He doesn't miss a single god damn stroke playing it live either....that's not even fair. Lol

    I got into an argument with another musician the other day about meshuggah. I was arguing the drums are mostly in 4/4 with it really being about interesting note groupings and the guitar lines being in a different time signature than the drums. He was arguing that the drumlines were the odd time meters driving the sound. What do you all think?

Is this considered good progress considering I don’t play drums seriously? 🤷🏻‍♂️
