so true. I have had conversations with a lot of people on youtube and other platforms. Nates totally correct. The VAST majority of them don't want to have an honest conversation. I've been pleasantly surprised by a few atheists that have respectfully had a conversation with me and at the end genuinely express they wish me the best after our discussion. Definitely would be friends with these types of people irl. But sadly there are a lot of people out there that do NOT care and they make it known that they don't.

Almost no "atheists" are "debating" in good faith. Not at all. Consider 3 realities of the USA in 2024 (now). First, drug addicts and drug dealers are everywhere. Their "friends" are drug addicts and drug dealers. Second, functional illiterates are everywhere. They can't read anything more than brand names and price tags. Finally, for more than one well documented reason, our own government funds vast armies of "anti-Muslim" as well as "anti-Christian" charlatans. This is our reality. Here. Now. @@lilywhite

"The Righteous Mind" changed a lot of how I viewed differences in politics and religion. Haidt's moral foundations theory along with the elephant and rider illustration are so useful. We are not rational, we rationalize.
The "addicted to outrage" model of social media is why I've almost completely stopped watching and engaging with political RUclips. Even among those that claim to be Christian the level of engagement is usually more like an assassin than a disciple. I think this kind of base and low frequency outrage engagement is what breeds lukewarm faith. We become acclimated to the world, why would anyone see Christians as different, holy, set apart if we continually act just like everyone else. I'll admit I've let emotions get the better of me and jumped to speak when I shouldn't have. But I have gotten better at not getting in arguments for no reason. When you live in a big city where almost no one shares your worldview it's very freeing to let it go.

I'm reminded of Dr. David Wood's testimony - how, when he was an atheist in jail, one of the weirdest things he saw was a man (whom he found out was a Christian) who would turn away and start praying when a fight broke out.
To paraphrase David's words, 'That's the only entertainment we got in there!' - so the question occurred to him, "What's with this guy?"
Not acting like the world can have a powerful affect on people who haven't seen someone actually living like a Christian.
There is a time to give an answer. But not everyone is listening, and not everyone wants an answer: a lot of the time, they're looking for a 'hook' - something to twist to use against you - rather than something to learn from. They won't learn from you, and that's not the goal in the questions they ask.
Silence is often (though definitely not always) the best answer: don't discount it. The 'last word' isn't as valuable as you may be drawn to think it is.

    Thanks for this vid.

But now that I was able to learn this, it took away an unnecessary burden that I often have regarding conflicts about communicating my beliefs as a Christian.

What an important and valuable message! I have learned the hard way that it is fruitless to engage with hard hearted scoffers. Civil discourse can be very productive. Iron sharpens iron. Engaging with those who have made up their minds and refuse to listen is a waste of time and breath.

Nate---GREAT VIDEO. This was one of the best I've listened to from you if for nothing more than the simple fact that you were so real and brutally honest about the subject matter. It's such a critical topic and, like you said, not many people are talking about this. Not many people take to heart what you talked about here, and it's such a transformative message! It's nothing to take lightly, how we engage with people, how we discern the wise people from the scoffers, and how to decide not to involve ourselves more than we need to. We waste our time and efforts needlessly when we don't pay attention to the biblical points you highlighted here. Thank you SO much for using your passion for Christ to make content like this and inspire people like me towards an even stronger relationship with Jesus. I appreciate you, brother!

I needed this. I was on reddit and eventually got to a post about someome who was in the process possibly of killing themselves. I was searching the posts they made in to see if maybe forums they posted on hears from them or anything. One that he frequented when I inquired about him basically didnt want to speak about it since it wasnt relevant to the thread. People asked what i was talking about, it made me so upset that this person posted their last post about killing themself, had a picture in the tub filled with water and probably blood from slitting their wrist and they just worried about posting meme manga content. I ended up finding out they supposedly did end their life which saddened me. But to really just not care about the person just like that really screwed my mind up today. On the original forum of the deceases person someone tried to reach out to them and tell them they have worth with Christ and a person, seemed to be possessed by hatred went crazy. They were so mad about them preaching to them about their life having meaning. Then i responded to them too about it. I shouldnt have said satan works through them 😕 but it was so blatant that the enemy worked through them to the point saving the person didnt matter mentioning Jesus did. All of it really reminded how evil humans really are and need Christ. I have to leave it an pray for them. The scripture don't cast pearl among swine, the Lord revealed to me during my small mental break after this to not keep going. I have to let Him do His work and not get in the way

Recently discovered your channel just a few days ago. Initially I was hesitant to subscribe or like anything because I was afraid that I would be getting myself into a rabbit hole of ‘foolish controversies and quarrels’ that Paul says to avoid to 1 Timothy and Titus.
I do appreciate that your videos seem to be more focused on teaching and how you talk towards the viewer instead of the video creators you criticize. There’s been quite a few things you’ve pointed out and said that has really made me learn and rethink things. Also appreciate that you approach common every day arguements against christianity without hesitation or disregard, for it gives me courage and a better idea on how to combat these things in love and good conscience. For I do often find myself in non-religious circles of people with these lines of thinking (I was also atheist before being saved, so I understand and relate to a lot of what they say, whilst knowing it’s not the truth)
And after watching this, it really affirms to me that you’re not looking to pick fights out of pride like so many do. Thanks. Am honestly surprised I was able to find a channel like yours on youtube. I didn’t really think it was possible to be honest.
Hope to take what you teach to heart and grow a further love for God and in what He says.

I use to be like this. I’d throw info after info and get so frustrated when others wouldn’t listen. I finally stopped and only continued speaking to those who seemed willing to listen. Otherwise I’d end the conversation and wish people the best if they came back with vitriol or were unwilling to listen. It brought more peace to my life and while not everyone comes to Christ the ones I do see willing to open up mean so much more.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

I sort of agree that we shouldn’t go out and seek quarrels with those who blatantly reject God. At the same time, however, Christians have ceded ground to secular progressivism for far too long. We need to humbly stand for truth, calling out the folly of trying to live autonomously without God. It’s no surprise that the world will come for Christians more and more, so be discerning and boldly stand for truth and humbly submit to the suffering as a consequence.

This is something that God has had to bring to my attention a few months ago. I would be on social media and comment on something. Obviously, the mockers would come and comment against my Christian statements. I could not control myself, I had to answer them. But, through much prayer and repentance, I do not answer. I used to wonder why people did not want the information I offered. I thought I was being helpful. But people were only looking to disagree and argue. Often, they became offended. God has helped me to just be silent.

We need to "fight" as Christians! We don't just give up our beliefs in order to "fight back"-We love. We respect. We teach. We offer help and alms and aid. We live as shining lights. We hold to the TRUTH and the Word of God, no matter what. THAT is how Christians "fight".
Unfortunately, because of the culture, modern teaching, our own fallen natures etc we read an article like this and we drop our core beliefs and become like world....we get angry and hateful and violent....and that is absolutely wrong and sinful!
So the article is kind of right in that we must fight and contend for the faith....but we do it _as Christians_

    “Why do scoffers scoff?”
“Because they are emotionally invested in their own sin.”
That’s actually not a bad answer. I can think of at least a handful of scoffers in my life recently, and they are proud of their sin one way or the other. In their minds, sexual immorality becomes sexual superiority, harshness becomes courage, selfishness becomes murder through abortion, envy becomes helping the poor, etc.
Reason can and will always be used to justify the emotions you are most invested in.
(Maybe this is why the Universities make students invest so much time and money in the kinds of things they intend to the students to spread into general society…)

I like this question and hope you don’t mind if I throw my hat into the ring here!
1 Peter 3:15-16 in the ESV says to always be prepared to make a DEFENSE to anyone who asks!
Proverbs 9:7-9 says to not correct or reprove a scoffer, or you’ll get yourself abuse and hate
I think God seems to instruct us to be ready to be prepared to defend our faith (defensive posture), but not try to rebuke a scoffer (offensive posture)…which coincides well with what Paul says in Romans 12:14-21 to (as much as we can) live peacefully with all people…and while this doesn’t mean NEVER engage in offensive apologetics, I think the proverb warns us to know when to walk away
Of course I’m just some guy you don’t know on the internet, so feel free to disregard lol, but as a brother I still hope this helps!

Im just a high school student/line cook for chilies and the people Im around on a daily basis could really use Jesus to get out of their sin and depression n when I try to open up to them they wanna argue about it. “Why do you believe in such an old book” “yeah whatever I believe in science” N I felt like I always had this pressure to keep opening up to people who wanna fight me on it. Thinking I need to build an argument n drop “truth bombs”. Instead now I realize I’ll just appreciate who they are. Love them the same as anybody. N try to be an example for them. I’ll try to speak Jesus to anyone I can but this made so much more sense. Someone who isn’t delighted in their scoffness and seeks truth and genuine answers to their questions.
