When I was much more active in my church, a very conservative and traditional Anglican parish, I served at the altar pretty frequently. At the end of almost every Sunday morning service, what was listed in the bulletin as 'The Last Gospel,' John 1:1-14 would be read by the vicar. I held the Gospel Book that our vicar read from. At the bit that says 'the Word was made flesh,' everybody would bow (except me, because I was holding the Book). The very first time that happened, seeing everybody bow in my general direction, there was something inside me that really liked it. That was 15 years ago, but that incident still horrifies me.
Every Sunday thereafter, I closed my eyes just before that part of the Last Gospel and said 'Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen' very quickly in my mind. The old man loves flattery, power and attention... That feeling of horror was the Holy Ghost working within me, and I thank God for that feeling of horror.

If your still seeking why are you Pastoring? If it’s deeper understanding of what you fully believe then 👏👏👏 I pray you’re always seeking.
We read the Word, because the Word reads us, it reads our hearts and reveals to us a chapter or book with new eyes and ears as we experience life. That’s Wisdom.
The Bible is sufficient. It will take many lifetimes to fully and deeply understand the Word the way God intended.
But if your in the word daily, you’d be surprised how deep it will pierce the Soul, at just the right moment. That is the Divinity of Jesus. He knew that, and we are blessed the majority of us CAN read. Can have that depth of intimacy and relationship.
God Bless you and your church.

Thank you for directing me to this sermon. I really needed it. After 60 years of serving the Lord, He is disciplining me for the very sins mencioned by Chan, ie pride, jealousy, hypocresy, looking for fame, etc and the worst is false humility! Even sharing this in my church context is a danger, so am waiting in a quiet place right now for His word: now.

Everything that he preached is exactly what God has been dealing with me about over the past months, and years actually. Frustrations, disappointments, heartaches etc… sort of like crushing the olive to get the purest oil. I’ve had a lot of mixture, a lot a lot of wrong teachings, and motives…God has been slowly pressing it all out of me. Deleting my social media accounts was one of the best decisions God convicted me of. I tried to rationalize using the platforms to spread the gospel, but I saw how the pride it so often cultivates could easily become a stumbling block, which I believe is what Francis struggled with. Plus, it's so impersonal, when we're called to build personal relationships with each other. Not through a screen. Don't get me wrong, men like Nate do a great job of commentating and teaching, but people don't realize how dangerous the spotlight can be. You must have full reliance on God's grace for wisdom, discipline, humility, and patience. The vast majority of people aren't there. Attention and influence are power and power so often corrupts. That's why social media produces narcissistic traits in people. The quiet life is far better anyway.

These comments are concerning. So many are saying “Francis is hanging out with unbiblical teachers”, “he’s heretical”, “he has unbiblical teachings”, but what about us??? Look at our friends and ones we hang out with. Look at our teachings or our own tongues sometimes in our daily language. Look at how we screw up or misunderstand or preach the wrong things from scripture. Are we so much better? Francis Chan is not a perfect human being by far, but is he not allowed to have “unbiblical teachers” as friends? Jesus hung out with sinners and tax collectors. And we’re called to the same so that all might have the true gospel. Who says he’s not preaching to those friends of his the truth? And maybe he gets things wrong. And we don’t? Stop being hypocrites in the comments and look at the planks in our own eyes first

The passage Francis covered was one I’d recently read and it has always resonated with me because I believe in today’s culture- it’s all about being bigger than life and making your mark. But in this passage God gives us permission to live quietly and focus on the work before us. What relief that brings. He will do the rest. He promises His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Quiet trust and obedience is our responsibility. ❤

This is exactly what separates born again Christians from all other religious people and religions. Everyone wants to proclaim how righteous and self disciplined they are in prayer, fasting and giving to the poor. But a true follower of Christ proclaims to the world “I was dead in my sins, but God, being rich in mercy, made me alive through Christ. By grace I am saved and not by my own good works!”

Do good deeds without boasting about it!
Live humbly, simply, help/love others and praise God.
This world loves to be praised, to be powerful, and to be popular or well known and rich.
Living a Godly lifestyle is the exact opposite. There's nothing wrong with those things however we must always remain humble and live like Jesus. Resemble Jesus in every way.
Jesus is THE way, THE truth, and THE life!
Be still and know that I AM God.
Everything you do, do as unto The Lord.

Spoiler alert: this isn’t a new direction for Chan. The theo-bro outrage against him is based on soundbites taken out of context. He has very solid theology and is a true disciple.
Kinda like how the progressives rail against Jordan Peterson without having listened to his actual lectures.

With what you said about the time it took for God to work in you and soften your heart, feels like where I’m at.! My dad and I spoke about this the other day. I know God is working on me. I think with us seeing the Christian social media I.e. (RUclips, instagram, facebook etc…) it makes the body want to be the head! As me and my dad spoke I said, I just want God to make me a good Christian. Not a theologian or a teacher or a worship leader. A good Christian. I love your videos, and people like you. Keep up the good work and keep the faith!! ✌🏾

By far, probably the one off best sermon if not the best I've heard in the year 2024, extremely humbling I am a 48 year-old man being a believer since I was 18 married since I was 18 to my high school sweetheart, and this is humbling to hear I have never preached in my life. I have been offered the pulpit, but I turned it down. I have reengage with the Lord I was away from him and the things that I'm learning of the year 2024 there is too much but everything that I'm watching it's leading me to somethingand being quiet it's one of them. God bless everyone.

I think there is too much "my story" telling in a lot of today's preaching. Jesus didn't tell "me" stories, He used parable and common experience... not to mention, His stories were always Spirit inspired.
Also, I think this stress on "what do the verses mean for our lives" goes too far. Sometimes the POINT of the Scripture is JUST to teach us something about God... there doesn't always need to be a "how do we live" aspect, other than being in awe of Him and giving Him glory. I see this especially when hearing teaching on the Psalms.
Otherwise, I agree with Chan... and you, Nate.

One million percent. The hoops people will go through to try and make a Scripture mean a hundred different things because they believe every Scripture can be applied to modern-day situations as if they were written for our situation. I've been saying what you said for ages!!

Sometimes the blessing is being broken. Coming from the roughest year of my life, the blessing for me was being broken and learning to trust God. No matter how hard I tried to fix things it just got worse. I was finally completely broken and realized that I had to trust God with everything. That was my blessing.

I still have his book Crazy Love. My understanding is Francis Chan was solid but his name being known made him arrogant so he left his first church. My fear is if you don't stick to the Word of God as your only inspiration on your journey, you may end up with people who believe they are gods like prosperity and Word of Faith teachers(CBN and TBN are similar I think). I saw myself listening to preachers I had no ideas what their beliefs were (the Word showed me). I pray I'm wrong but fear that's what happened. I pray the I AM pulls him back, as Satan would love us to believe we're doing God's will straight into hell- Lord help all of us 🙏

He's doing good. This message is recent. He left the mega church years ago because people were seeking him instead of God. Also He came to know the gifts are still active, and the Holy Spirit still speaks to us. And many of the hardliners tradionalist basically called him a heretic. He went to Asia and lived with the persecuted church for years and now he's back in California planting churches last I heard.

@@JG-id5vi He is supporting and providing cover for lying, stealing charlatans and false teachers like Benny Hinn and the gang. Called mike Bickle the most Godliest man he knows. He is in the word of faith, fake healing, prosperity preaching crowd. He left the mega church and now takes speaking engagements all over the world. Curious what those speaking fees, err honorarium are.

@@JG-id5vi He might have righted his wrong but I am still discerning about him.. I really love his sermons and he was one that inspired my convictions to Christ.. But his time in 2018- 2020 were not his best time and to be candid was very un-Biblical. These are not 2nd hand. His own quotes, statement, and sermons that he had done. This is why many people are not only shocked but question him like John Piper (Desiring God) in the past to the present (his teaching is completely different).. These are similar trajectory of who I listened and then stop listening because his very belief and conviction in that time were contradictory. I am open hear him but I question him more still.

@@toolegittoquit_001Why do you focus on Catholics ad' nauseum?
I ask bc you're comments relay an extremely biased opinion in which you call out Catholics?
You may disagree with certain aspects of that particular denomination, but hopefully you know there are issues with all denominations?
Picking on Catholics, which I have read on several of Nate's videos now, is troll behavior. 🙄 Just saying...
