I immediately agreed with you on having the moon garden by the house. Imagine walking around the corner and into an intimate garden. Wow. Also I love your organization in the loft! Thx again!

I always thought of a moon garden as a rather special area of the garden with white roses, other white flowers, silvery leaves and, most importantly, a water feature. The water and flowers reflect the glow of the moon and really sparkle when the 3 days of the full moon occur so you need a bench or bistro set to "moon bathe" while sipping a glass of wine or iced tea.
Part of the garden shaded would add an interesting, magical dimension to the overall garden, woodland and moonlight. I'm looking forward to the completed project whatever you decide.

Great idea! Also a water feature would disguise the hum of the a/c units when they’re on.

I know you must be excited to get to tackle the west side walkway! A moon garden in that space would be lovely & more intimate than the larger space across the driveway. I think a tour of your barn would be interesting... how you organize - the tools you use and how they're organized, the differing soils & fertilizers, etc. 🌱😁

Annie Nation, my thoughts exactly. A Moon Garden has the feeling of romance and intimacy, partly secretive and smaller in scale. The area near the house gets my vote.

I’ve been thinking for a bit that you might find an all-white garden in that big of a space more limiting than challenging and fun. If you are wanting a moon garden I think along the house would be nice, but more than anything, I like the idea of allowing yourself more options along the driveway. I also think it may flow better into your vegetable garden/cutting garden with a bit more color.

Love the idea of using the garden along the house as your moon garden.❤️❤️ The Limetta hydrangeas and boxwoods will be a beautiful border. I think you should make the larger garden your “showcase” garden and change it up every year. That garden has great bones and that way you won’t get bored! 😂

my whole yard is a moon garden because i really love white bloosoms, although i recently planted part of it up with really dark almost black blooms, so now its a "tuxedo" garden.

What a great idea to pair the grass with the hyacinth. I've been looking for containers with a topiary. Your organization in the barn, looks so tidy. Personally, I think putting the moon garden where you're talking about here in the shade/sun area is a really fabulous idea. I totally feel you on that and that would totally be my choice for the same reasons as you. It's really hard to find the cage tops, for outside use especially, around here in St. Louis. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? Where do people get them? Oh yea, and did you have your hyacinths in a cold place? Did you just get them? Did you have to do any prep to them temperature wise before planting?

As for the moon garden, I say do both sides.
If not that, keep the original side. This way your white house will not be the back ground for your white flowers. Plus all of the replanting you would have to do for the little limes.

Laura, after having a moon garden myself, my recommendation is to put such a garden in an area where you might sit late in the afternoon or early in the evening when it is comfortable outside. I had mine on one side of my deck. Several of the blooms had fragrances and several of them had wonderful blooms that one could see in the light of the moon. So pull up a chair and enjoy the labor of love that you would put into it.

  • @ryfry3562

Love the moon garden against the house. I think you will really love having the white up against your White House. It will be such a pleasing sight. And although I'm sure you're camouflaging all of the infrastructure around there, having a peaceful garden amongst all of the chaos of the area on that side will be nice.
Also, I've heard the reluctance in your voice whenever you talked about doing it in the otherside. So while I don't know you personally, I think you'd get annoyed confining yourself to one color on the full sun side.

Oh how I envy those sturdy shelves you have in the barn - and the totes all labeled and organized by holiday! I had to pause to show my husband as currently we have all our stuff jammed into a storage unit. Finding all our Easter/Spring decor will be a project in itself and it’s too easy to leave totes behind due to disorganization. I think we all feel more productive when we have order. One if my pet peeves is time wasted searching for an item you know you have - somewhere.

Hi Laura! Since you asked for our thoughts, I'd like to suggest a moon garden where you'll get illumination from the moon, or possibly a little soft downward garden lighting. Keep the size intimate so you can not only see it from different vantage points, but also go into it after dark when it shows the white blossoms. I think a moon garden isn't the very same thing as a white garden and shade may keep it from "glowing" in the moonlight. I look forward to whatever you and Aaron decide! 🌱

My husband has asked me several times to move our Christmas decorations out to the garage loft because they are taking up a lot of space on the basement shelves, but I've always held off because I'm worried the temperature extremes will ruin the decorations. Yes, stuff with glue is a concern... I’ve seen damage done to items stored in hot areas in indoor storage in houses in Phoenix AZ which isn’t as hot, I think, as storing stuff in a garage in Phoenix. Anything with glue or elastic does not do well in hot areas. I’m moving into a rental house soon and I’m hoping the owner will eventually sell to me. I already have big plans for remodeling that include lots of temperate storage... if I am able to buy the house.

I agree with putting it by the house. That will make a nice stroll during the evenings, almost magical ! Add a few night time lights here & there, plus with the light/shade differences , there will be a bigger variety of plants. Have fun !!!

I agree with switching the moon garden. It will beautiful there, or anywhere really, bit especially in the more shaded area. Those are the sweetest little bunnies and the topiary pots are as well. If I were anywhere near you where I could visit your parents store, I would be broke all the time and yet I would still show up for every new shipment😊 Love hyacinths and what you've done with them here❣️

I can't wait to see that Hyacinth planter in full bloom! I was glad to hear that you have decided against doing the long garden in white as I thought you would get bored fast. I know I sure did many, many years ago. I had planted a moon garden ( for my husband) as white is his favorite color. I planted an area that got sun to part to pretty much full shade. I had a love hate thing going on with it. It looked awesome during a bright or full moon, the sunny side got all washed out by the suns light. I did not enjoy it much. Other then I loved the plants and flowers just not the totally white, silver thing in sun and so large of an area. I scaled it down a lot to a shadier area with a slight bit of sun and was much happier. We seem to enjoy the same colors and plants and flowers so thought I would share my experience with you. My white / silver moon garden at 1st was 4 to 6 ft wide by 120 ft long approximately in size. Scaled down to another location to about a 6 ft by 12 ft area. Much nicer :P

I think the west side is a great space for the moon garden. I liked the white tones across the driveway, but that area would look fabulous with color too. Whatever you end up doing, it will be beautiful! I wish I had picked up some hyacinth bulbs. The arrangement will be so pretty when it blooms.

Oddly enough, the West Side of your garden was my favorite space! It's hardly seen in many of your videos but when you made that dedicated video featuring this garden, I fell in love! Even though it was a narrow strip with ac units, the well, and electrical boxes, you managed to make it feel so whimsical. I prefer the layered cottage look you had this past spring. It was amazing! All of the flowers and little spruces that led up to the Japanese maple and boxwood hedge was so magical! BUT I'm sure the moon garden idea will win anyway. But that's my two cents!

Yes, do the Moon garden on the west side of the house. It would have a more intimate look with the size and variation of lighting. White flowers against the white house with interesting hardscapes and it'll have the look you're after. Great plan, Laura!

I have thought about the drawbacks of doing all white in such a large space across the driveway since you first talked about it -especially with your love of color and changing things up. The side of the house is perfect and so much more intimate.
Your challenge will be to find creative ways to make sure the blooms pop and don’t get lost in the side of the house. But you are the one who can do it beautifully! I say go for it there!
Also, you will be able to see it at night from the house. Add a bench so you can sit in it and enjoy it at dusk. Watching the subtle color changes with the light would be fantastic! 🌙

So excited about your moon garden plans! Both sides to start with so you can drive or walk through glowing White garden at night, and then you can always add color to the larger side later.
And kudos on getting so organized!

  • @ElizabethM824

I always think a moon garden should be planted in an area that you can enjoy in the evening. So will you be able to see the moon garden on the side of the house from a sitting area close by? Or would you be able to see it from inside from a room you use a lot? I would also suggest adding scented flowers like nicotiana, etc. A moon vine that opens at night would be fun too if you can work that in.
