Good morning, As modelers we have a lot of choice in the products we use and we should always use the ones we prefer. At AMMO our intention is to provide the best modeling solutions we can based on the combined experience of our team, as well as feedback from our community. In our view, Lock 'N Load offers several advantages over traditional watercolor pencils which I have explained below: Firstly, the Lock 'N Load watercolors are solid color leads, without a wooden frame, this means they have a larger diameter and can therefore provide a variety of surface areas and tips compared to pencils. They can be shaped to the exact surface and point as required by the technique being applied. This is not possible with the narrow leads of traditional watercolor pencils. In addition, as any shavings from Lock 'N Load will not be mixed with wood or glue like with pencils, and can therefore be reused and mixed with water to create further effects. This means no product is wasted through sharpening. Lock 'N Load colors are denser with a lower porosity than traditional watercolor pencils, making them stronger, the tip is more resistant as a result, which is especially important considering we are using them on hard models. This means fewer breakages, and therefore less waste. Thanks to this denseness and previously mentioned larger diameter, they can be tapered to the exact shape required using sandpaper or a sanding stick. Finally, without the wood there is no need for any glue which is commonly found in pencils. Lock 'N Load leads are also made of a purer watercolor, with fewer binders and only the highest quality materials, this means that they can be blended and erased more smoothly, without leaving residue. I hope this helps, happy modeling! Jamie, AMMO Team
Good morning, As modelers we have a lot of choice in the products we use and we should always use the ones we prefer. At AMMO our intention is to provide a range of the best modeling solutions we can based on the combined experience and input of our team, as well as feedback from our community. Oils remain one of the most versatile weathering products, many of use oil and enamel based products here at AMMO and continue to do so. The Lock 'N Load set provides an option that might appeal to modelers who want to avoid solvents or odors, as it is easily blended and cleaned purely with water. For many of us, it is also a complement to existing techniques and products we use. Thank you so much, Jamie, AMMO Team
@@cdpgbc-mw2kz Good morning, The Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are not like standard watercolors. They are made from the best materials to be tougher and harder. This means they do not crumble or break easily, therefore they can be shaped to the perfect point as desired, using either the built-in sharpener or coarse sandpaper. As they do not include a wooden body, there is less waste: any shavings or debris from sharpening Lock 'N Load can be used to make more effects. Their larger diameter means that they can be rubbed on texture for highlights or to add weathering effects such as soot or faded paint work. The high quality materials used to manufacture Lock 'N Load watercolor leads means that can be more easily diluted than other watercolor products, while also facilitating smoother blending. Finally, Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are purer than other watercolors, with fewer binders, meaning any mistakes can easily be removed without leaving a trace. I hope this helps, Jamie, AMMO Team

Thank you for your comment Bob. Yes they are less messy than Oils, as well as quicker in many situations. As they are not not a solvent based product, they are also odorless and can be easily cleaned or blended with water. Thank you, Jamie, AMMO Team

So...a new way to spend money instead of using brush and oils?
Spot on.
They are I think the same as water color pencils...you can use them dry, or brush the pigment.

another product that nobody asked for and nobody needs...

Nah I’m not convinced. The model looks worse after you use the pencils 🤔
Looks as terrible as when I use my AK Weathering pencils. I guess it's the same stuff.
