  • The hot weather brings some cooler jobs for Michael, which include setting up the outdoor shed (Becci's office) with some of our favourite antiques and making a start on the external pointing. We've found a ready-made mix so give that a try and the results seem quite promising! What do you think of the colour?
At the end of the week, we also get our new joist delivery, meaning we can get stuck back into rebuilding the house next week!
    About Us 🏚️👫🏼🐈🐕🐕
We're Michael & Becci (the humans) and Tilly (sassy English tortoiseshell cat), Alfie and Anoushka (Portuguese rescue dogs). After four years in Portugal and numerous dreams about renovating our own property, we've taken the plunge and are renovating a schist stone house and its outbuildings in Figueiró dos Vinhos. We're doing most of the work ourselves (or... Michael is!) and we'll be stepping back in time to create a character property with as many original features and antiques as possible.
Join us for the journey and don't forget to like, subscribe and comment! We love hearing from you 💛

What a good idea to reuse the plank and make a shelf. You decorated the room well. I like the way that you reuse items found on site and that they remain with the house. Pointing looks quite therapeutic. Best wishes to you both.

Your videos are always so interesting and one thing for sure it’s going to be done right!! Wow the shelf with all the Antiques look amazing along with the old light fixtures I remember when you cleaned out one of the buildings when you found the barrels they also look awesome in there.! I really enjoy also when you take a walk around your grounds cause I think they are absolutely beautiful, and I love the dogs, and the cat. Thank you for sharing and have a awesome week. 🇺🇸❤️

Top Class.. been waiting for this so long .. Wow Michael the pointing looks great 👍like the finish .. all I could say is just ensure the wall is well hydrated before mortar goes in , slow cure wins the race 😊 & wet hessian sacks if sun exposed. I used to soak the wall a day before, it’s surprising how much the present old mortar can dehydrate your new mix 👍. Can’t wait to see how it looks once an area is complete 😉.
I’ve spent many many years repointing & after retiring nothing I’d love more is to sit on the scaffold doing a hour or two, cup a tea & chit chat .. next thing you know a day has past in no time . 😊
    Enjoy your weekend

First of all... that opening drone shot of the houses and sheds WOW!!!!!!
Id never have thought old glass and other "junk" left behind could look interesting but between that old timber and the presentation of it all it looks great.
Now Michael be honest here cos you're a bloke, how much input did Becci have on that? 🤣
Ribbing aside, it looks fantastic well done the both of you.
Being a music lover and someone who uses it both to relax and as a way of not noticing mundane or (soul destroying) tasks (Im a keyboard monkey for my city council) I would have earphones on listen to music doing that pointing 🤣
Another wonderful video this week folks, thank you and stay safe

Ah, thanks so much!! Haha, I have to say, I (Becci), had zero input! I leave Michael and his OCD to it 😅 he's better at that stuff than me!
When I get stuck in with the pointing, I'll definitely have my earphones in as well! I love a good crime podcast! I don't know how he doesn't have music sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️
Thanks again and have a good weekend 💛

Love the new office space - got to love a fabulous bit of old wood. Also loved the ingenious use of an old fork to hang up the strimmer! And the pointing looks great! "BioEcological" just means they can charge more lol. The colour looks nice, but the problem you might have is if you decide to go the cheaper "mix your own" route then the colour of the sand is going to make a difference. The colour can change between loads etc. You might have to do one side at a time haha Loved the drone shots of your strimming - its all looking great - keep up the excellent work :)

I'm loving the color of mortar you are using! Not that horrible glaring white stuff I always see used when repointing an ancient stone wall. To me, it screams look at me, I have been fixed! Destroys the whole mood. Too expensive? Just use it on the most visible parts of the house and go the sand-lime bit with a little bit of dye added. saw a guy that needed to repoint his fireplace so added pigment to match the granite. Why couldn't you do the same?

    • @PortugalonaPostcard
      @PortugalonaPostcard  4 дня назад

Thanks so much! I totally agree! Much prefer something that blends in so the stone is the most prominent feature 😊 we'll definitely try and replicate this colour even if we have to use our own mix.

Becky's room looks great, did you find all of those items in the casa? I guess with the pre-mixed mortar, you should get a more consistent mix if you're only doing a bit every now & then. Looks good so far

Wondering if u can place the camera in a different position so you don’t get the white out from the sun when faced towards the sun in some shots? It’s probs tricky as the camera might get hot if standing too long in the sunny position looking away from the sun. Fine line to walk I’m sure.

Yeah, some areas are bright, even with the camera in the shade. The corner of the house is always difficult to get a nice light for some reason. Thanks so much for watching! 😊

When are you going to start working on the house? You seem to work everywhere else but there? Just wondered if you have a reason for this?
Isn't her office going to be awful dusty in there to be able to work?
