Random question a little off topic to this video but do you have any drills or thoughts related to center face contact? I struggle with hitting the ball on the heel and get the random hosel rocket. Thank you and really enjoy your approach and presentations in these videos. Roger
I had a terrible grip for years. I determined to gripnthe club correctly but on the course it felt too different. So I took an old club to my office and all winter long I would hold the club correctly while I was on the phone . Now it feels perfect and has improved my score. This was a great video!
This is exactly the process I stress to my players going through a grip change. Love hearing this. Great work as I know it was not easy. Patience and perseverance always wins. Thanks for sharing! T.J.
Yes, I made a grip change about 10 years ago. It was certainly a challenge and I remember not wanting to do it at all due to the awful feelings but I knew it was for the best. Mine was a palm to fingers change. Is that much different than say weak to strong?
Any change is a challenge and congrats on making that change. To answer your question going from palm to fingers does change the positions of your wrist angles. Less wrist moves into a bit more extension and trail hand into less extension or into flexion. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it! T.J.
Sensible how a seemingly innocuous, degree or two grip adjustment can affect the entire swing. Once engaged though, commitment is key and a whole lot of reps are needed to ingrain the pattern enough to get comfortable with it.
Hi TJ i had a hard time finding the correct grip as my hands and arms were unknowingly mostly responsible for my power source. Once I learned how to use my pivot and shoulders correctly the grip changed overnight instantly as the grip position matched up with the correct body motion. I have zero hand, grip manipulation now.
It sounds like you found your matchup! That is one of my priorities with players, find THEIR matchups. Love it! Thank you for the comment and watching. I greatly appreciate it!
Hi T.J if you don’t mind me saying please, the club design regulations make it difficult to stabilise the club face. Could you imagine a tennis racket shaped like the letter P with the handle/ grip off centre. Could you imagine trying to serve at 200km plus with an offset grip. Try inverting the club so the club head is under the shaft so much easier to grip. 👍
Hi TJ, great video as usual. I do have a related question about the grip. Would making your grip stronger help with your iron striking? Whenever I turn my hands to the right on the grip I seem to compress the ball better but I end up pulling it left so I always fall back into my more neutral grip. Any thoughts on this? TY John
Yes, it would. I can do a video on this as it is tough to explain through here but a “closed” face (could be just more closed than your used too) has a tendency to produce impact a couple grooves higher on the face than an “open” face. Giving you a better feeling. Open face can lower the impact point vertically on the face creating the feeling of thin and unstable. Again, tough to explain on here but maybe that helped? T.J.
That is definitely the place to start. Don't shock the system by moving it a ton a first just work its way over little by little as you hit shots. You will figure out pretty quickly it that is the cause. T.J.
Personally I have never had to change my grip but i have watched many buddies attempt too and fail. They give up so quickly and go back to their old way which as you know keeps them from getting better. Good stuff TJ
I tried to move my hands slightly to the right (stronger I guess) and I absolutely failed. It felt too awkward during the swing. Kinda like you said. Maybe I have to revisit it...
Obviously make sure you are creating proper matchups by changing the grip and not just changing it because you think you need too. You are correct. It is extremely challenging for a lot of people to make a sustainable grip change. If it’s needed work hard and you will make the change. Thank you for watching! T.J.
I will tinker with my grip to see what effects it has on how the ball flies, kinda like you showed, but it never feels right when I move away from my normal grip...I guess that's what you are talking about in this video 🤣
I started using a funny way of gripping the club I'm right handed golf but with my left hand no tumb on the grip it sets my wrist hinge properly and Generate a lot of power I hit a 9iron 185 yard straight it's hard to work the the ball but straight as an arrow the harder I swing
I love the experimenting part. You never know when you are going to find a good matchup even if it is a little outside the box. Good stuff! I appreciate you watching and commenting! T.J.

Great display of how the grip affects clubface.
Thank you!

@@TJVGolf TY for the reply..
Wow, Hackmotion looks amazing. Would love a video where you talk about your favorite tech. Thank You TJ!
It is such a great tool with many purposes. I’ll definitely do a video on tech at some point!

No question about it. I didn’t talk about the potential effects on the body motions either. Thanks for watching! T.J.

@@TJVGolf That makes sense. Thank you
I’ve been missing left a lot lately and I believe my right hand has gotten really strong for some reason.

Yup! I have witnessed it hundreds of times. In fact, finished up a remote session with a long time student of mine and our main topic was just that.
I tried to move my hands slightly to the right (stronger I guess) and I absolutely failed. It felt too awkward during the swing. Kinda like you said. Maybe I have to revisit it...

You're on the right track! It takes time and a lot of practice to get comfortable with any grip change! T.J.
