In the early 2000s, at a friend's birthday party, we were all in our late teens early 20s. We busted out his NES and as a party trick I blasted through this game on difficult, zero deaths, except for the crash bomb boss in Dr. Wily's castle. It was my best NES game playthrough. I played this game to death as a kid. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I absolutely love your channel. I get such a nostalgic rush. This game is probably my top 5 favorite of all time. The music just makes it that much gratifying
One of my favorite Megaman games after 3. Cool video on the history of the making of this awesome game! When playing this game, I often fight Metal Man first just to pick up the awesome Metal Blade weapon since it's so darn useful and powerful. Crash Man is often my next target due to how easy he's defeated using just your normal Mega Buster cannon due to the jumping pattern he uses (just run at him, light tap jump and shoot at the same time to hit him, and repeat until he's dead plus he won't ever land a hit on you since his crash bombs always end up and explode well away from you). Knowing this pattern, Crash Man is the easiest boss to kill, not the hardest.
The soundtrack to this one brings back such memories. It's absolutely killer. So awesome to see the tricks too, I could never beat this one as a kid. I remember being *so* excited when I finally beat Heat Man and Quick Man to finish them all off, only to realize there was the whole castle section to deal with after! That dragon felt impossible!
Hebon-Shiki, or Hepburn Romanization. The Japanese don't have an 'L' sound in their language, and the sound the substitute is more of a cross between the English R and L, so it makes it very difficult to distinguish between the two for translations, hence the existence of 'Engrish'. A proper hard 'R' almost always stays an 'R', but people using Hepburn always assume 'L' = 'R', so you often get things like anime characters canonically named 'Lisa' in Japan becoming 'Risa' in EN-speaking countries. Very stupid I know, and borderline racist (IMO), but that's why he was called 'Crash Man'.
Although metal blades are easier in the "living room" boss area, bubble lead is actually its weakness as each component only needs to be hit by one bubble lead as opposed to two metal blades.
2021-08-10 Unforgotable: Music of Dr.Wilys Castle Stage1. Just Love it. But overall the musics fit so perfect to each stage. Especially Crashman Stage music so funny ....
Nice! This was the first Mega Man game I had and the 2nd one I beat. I didn't beat MM2 until after I beat MM4. I like your strategies on how to get through it. I've been doing it the "hard way" all these years with picking Metal Man first, using the arm cannon on Crash Man (I did eventually learn how to beat him with it without getting hit once), etc. Always good to see some new ideas I just never thought about!
It’s funny, by today’s standards Megaman 2 is probably insanely difficult, but I remember it being a casual difficulty game when I was a kid. Mega Man 1 was so crazy difficult in comparison. It was the only Mega man game I didn’t finish on the NES. 3 was my favorite in the series. I remember the difficulty in that one was perfectly tuned, not as hard as the first one, but way harder than 2.
First game I’ve ever finished. Got it as a birthday present as a kid and spent three months on it. Probably my favorite game of all time. One interesting thing I found is if you have to clear the Boobeam Traps over two lives, as long as you fill up crash bombs before trial 2, you should have extra crash bombs left over. When you fight Dr Wiley from the teleport room, hit start as soon as soon as his second life bar begins to generate. Switch to crash bomb. Press start again to return to battle. It will stop his power mid-way, hit him with 2 crash bombs and that’s it.
if you still have an extra Crash Bomb to use when you make it to the 2nd wily fight, you can take him out in a single shot if you can fire the bomb so it explodes slightly below the cockpit
Easily one of my favorite NES games of all time! I never knew there was a way to beat the 4th Wily stage with one full bar of Crash Bombs. I always died at least once to refill Crash Bombs, since the walls remained gone. Thanks for this! I also found a quirky trick that shooting a Crash Bomb at Wood Man using Leaf Shield causes him to launch the shield earlier than he normally would. The explosion of the Crash Bombs also hurts Flash Man and Metal Man a lot, but sneezing hurts Flash Man. Another quick way, pun intended, to defeat Quick Man... after using a full bar of Flash Stopper, a fully charged Atomic Fire will take the rest of Quick Man's HP.
Mega man 2 was my first mm game that i played back in 88 when i was 5 and i became a fan instantly. I completed in 92 when i was 9 and created a mega man club. Where my friends and I would buy the games together and master them. Then years later i became an adult and the mega man collections came out 2002 or 04 and I introduce my step son to the blue bomber. Now im in my 40s and im starting to collect every mega man game made. Ucbvg is the best channel on youtube and it would be a honor to meet u in some Comic-Con or gaming convention. Thank u for all ur great content and God bless bro.
Interesting order. I usually do airman first to get item 2, which allows you to get the extra life and the E tank in metal man’s stage without dying. After metal man, I do woodman, then bubble, then heat, getting item 1. Next I do crash man with air shooter, and now with crash bombs and item 1, you can get the extra stuff in flash man’s stage, then finally I do quick man last.
My route is Air, Quick, Flash, Metal, Bubble, Heat, Wood, Crash. Item 2 is incredibly important in zipless runs. Also I am so happy that you acknowledged Heat Man as being a zippo :D
Never beat this game, until today.. Your video was a big help, the game is way easier than I remember it being back in the day. Feels good to finally beat it.
"But what if I told you.... but what if I told you...." I literally am waiting for the exact moment you start the lines... makes my day everytime man. Thanks for the great video! My favorite Mega man as well. 🤘🤘
Man, I haven't played this since I was 12..... 2 was always my favorite, but the entire series was fantastic, I loved the music ALMOST as much as the Castlevania series. Thank you so much, I enjoyed watching this old game.
I'd never seen the time stopper trick with the air tikis before, so that was useful. A few useful extra tidbits for you. For those that do Heat Man before Air Man, item 1 can also be used to make the air tiki sections trivial, but you'll have to be able to get through the yoku block section of Heat Man's stage without item 2. Once you figure it out, it's not TOO bad, but the timing is wonky, so it may take LOTS of practice. The armored sniper joe in heat man's stage can be skipped entirely with the time stopper. Use it while he's in mid jump and walk right under him. A useless but fun to watch trick in stage 2 of Wily's castle is to hold right after item 2 gets up to full speed. You have to give it a couple of seconds to reach that speed, but watching the result is rather amusing. For anyone having trouble in the spike pit in stage 3 of Wily's castle, opening the menu resets your falling momentum completely, so you can open the menu repeatedly to easily adjust where you're at and avoid the spikes. For the fight with Wily's ship, his actual weakness is the crash bomber, which you SHOULD be completely out of by design. HOWEVER, if you have a single use left by using the trick in your video (which is harder to pull off than it looks, but not TOO hard), you can one shot one of his forms. If you hit the cockpit, it just does 4 damage, but if you hit a little BELOW the cockpit where your shots would normally bounce off, the crash bomb explodes automatically. If you hit the ship in that spot as it's moving away from you, that one bomb will wipe out one of his 2 life bars. This is best saved for the second form, especially in difficult mode. It'll take some practice to line up the shot just right, but it's immensely satisfying when you pull it off. Finally, you can also potentially WRECK Quick Man with the crash bomber if you're immensely lucky. He usually ends up over by the gate very quickly at the start of the fight, so if you plant a crash bomb there as soon as you start, he'll likely get hit at least once, and possibly several times. I'm not entirely sure if a single bomb can one shot him on difficult, but with some luck, it should on normal. This trick won't work when fighting him again, the big open room allows him too much mobility to make it effective. Oh, and never ever use a crash bomb against Heat Man. Refills his life completely.
Wow, a lot here! I've never tried my Crash Bombs on Wily's ship, but I often do have one left over, so I'll have to give that go! Pause jumps are definitely interesting. I didn't know Crash healed Heat Man! That's really interesting!! Is there any other Mega Man boss in any game where using the wrong weapon gives them health back?
@@UCanBeatVideoGames There are crazier things you can do, but then you're getting into speed runner level tricks. I wanted to share stuff that was on the same level as your video, which is solid enough in its own right to get a player ready to move from normal mode to difficult. As for the healing, right off the top of my head, I think Heat Man is unique in that regard. If there's another case of that in the rest of the franchise, I can't think of it. Doesn't mean they don't exist, I just can't think of any. But that WOULD make it incredibly rare.
@@ultramegamighty a few heal with wrong weapons. Heat getting hit by Heat or Crash, Flash by Flash Stopper, or the Alien if hit by anything but Bubble Lead. Definitely not limited to Heat Man only. And getting to Wily with 2 Crash Bombs is actually pretty easy with very little practice, but only useful in difficult. Normal it's quicker to just Metal him start to finish unless you're lightning quick on the menu and can shoot him immediately.
@@ChromeCobra420 For the Alien, I had never honestly tried anything BUT Bubble Lead. I just assumed everything else plinked off of it. As for getting to Wily with 2 Crash Bombs... is there a video of that somewhere? I've never seen that done.

Thanks for the sub, Phil! I'm excited to play Mega Man 3 for the channel, it will definitely happen. The first time I ever saw Mega Man 2 was in that issue of Nintendo Power, and I was blown away! My parents had just asked if I wanted to get a game for my birthday, and I immediately told them Mega Man 2 was the one - a decision I have never regretted!

This is a great channel and I’m sure you’ll gain more followers soon enough! I also wanted to point out that Mega Man 2 is the only game you covered so far that I beat by myself as a kid when it first came out! ( yes, I’m aging myself)
I don’t remember how I got this game all those years ago, but I never really paid the box art that much attention. But the pistol, Quick Man clearly being quick, and Dr. Light (?!) directing Crash Man to attack is a great view into the artist’s understanding of the actual game. Great video!
I personally preferred Megamans 3 (The first one I played) and 4 (The one I actually bought). But still MAJOR respect for this one for making it a permanent franchise!
I remember recording gameplay of this game on my mom's VCR when i was a kid. Even back then we loved watching gameplay, and the sound track was fire and still is.
Mentioning the Robot Master design contest brought me back to when Capcom did the same thing for Mega Man 6, and opened it up to markets outside of Japan. I entered that one, and while none of my designs were used, I still felt like part of something big. :)
I like seeing other peoples choices of what order to do the bosses in. My routine is Metal, Bubble, Heat, Wood, Air, Crash, Flash, Quick. Metal blade tears through almost everything. Crash bomber works beautifully on Quick Man
I remember sitting in the floor having a conversation with my friend back when this came out and we first beat bubble man... Pondering whether it was "lead" as in the metal, or "lead" as in lead/follow, considering one of the best uses was to use it to "lead" in front of you to find traps and such.

And still one of the best soundtracks of any video game ever.
Yeah but i think Mega Man 3 has better music.
And yet it’s not even the best Mega Man soundtrack, just goes to show how talented Capcom was.
Playing this game when it came out and the graphics were mind blowing! A classic, thanks for posting
Still my favorite channel. You're the David Attenborough of video games. And that's the highest praise I know.
if you still have an extra Crash Bomb to use when you make it to the 2nd wily fight, you can take him out in a single shot if you can fire the bomb so it explodes slightly below the cockpit
I do CrashMan after MetalMan. Otherwise the same order you use. Item 2 in Bubble Man's stage to help with the dropping platforms.
Airman first is the traditional path - they even recommend it in the instruction manual! It IS nice to have platform #2 early, I can't deny that!
Air>Bubble>Metal>Heat>Crash>Flash>Wood>Quick. If you can manage that order you can get all the 1ups and E Tanks.
My route is Air, Quick, Flash, Metal, Bubble, Heat, Wood, Crash. Item 2 is incredibly important in zipless runs.
Also I am so happy that you acknowledged Heat Man as being a zippo :D
Pretty awesome that you have Heat Man as your avatar! Some of the bosses in this had really cool designs.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames yeah dude, he's become something of a mascot for me lmao
Never beat this game, until today.. Your video was a big help, the game is way easier than I remember it being back in the day. Feels good to finally beat it.
That's so awesome! Congratulations!!
It makes me really happy to be able to help. Well done.
"But what if I told you.... but what if I told you...."
I literally am waiting for the exact moment you start the lines... makes my day everytime man.
Great video, it really takes me back. Everyone has a robot kill pattern. Mine starts with Metal Man because I like how you can direct the metal blades when you have his power.
Great video. Decades later after first playing Mega Man 2, I finally beat it legit thanks to this guide. Don't judge me. I beat other games on my own. lol
Me and my mom just did a video where she finally beat this game using your tips! She played it as a kid and was never able to beat the end boss. She finally did it last night! We gave your channel a shout out.
Thanks man, This is one of my favorite new channels I stubbled upon you about 6 months ago and have watched everyone, Thanks for your hard work. I finally beat this game.
He made this game look so easy! The amount of useful tips in this video is amazing. Got me itching to play Megaman 2 again.
Thanks!! If you play it, let me know how it goes!
Love this game. One of my top ten in terms of nostalgia.
Your skill is amazing! I play Mega man a lot and I can’t do the things you do. Mad props. Thanks for your hard work on these videos they make these games playable.
Still my all time favorite Mega Man game (with the original X being a close second). Crash Man's music for the win.
I loved this game. The gameplay and music is just incredible. It's burnt into my psyche.
Wow this dude is the "chills" of video game channels. That flat voice thing will be his ever known trademark.
He reminds me of Bob Ross too yo!😎
I’ve been thinking the same thing! Except it doesn’t sound as forced as Chills does IMO
@@chrisschojan5081 I don't even listen to his whole shows, just his intro information. Pretty neat work he does. Not subbed but he pops up so I check in.
This channel is just great to watch late at night or when in bed. Its so calming.
Mm2 was a labor of love that defined an entire era of video games. One of 10 games I have a sealed copy of. Also leaf shield and birds or screws is a brilliant way of doing an infinite lives trick.
Also, not cheezy... one of the best nes endings ever.
This path is awesome for early item access and the Heatman method is perfect. But doing the lasers at full speed is fun.
Just got the NES mini and how the h*ck did i beat this game when i was young lol. Its a hard game nowdays, but with your tutorial its so much easier. Thanks for all these playthrough. You got a new subscriber 😀
great video ! I can't believe you complete the entire game in 50 mins!!!! I spent entires weekends and nights trying to do it! Thank you!
You sir have earned a new subbed! I just watched this, mm 1 and your tmnt run. Can’t wait for more. Keep up the great work.
Im 43. Never owned a Nes, had a gamboy and snes. But missed nes games. Your channel has helped me enjoy metroid and now megaman 2! Love your video's. Thanks and keep em coming 👌
I used to love that entrance to bubble man, where you drop in the water.... I don’t know just thought it was so cool
There were so many cool things they added to this game just for flavor. I love that stuff.
I cant believe I've never known/heard of your channel before... SUBDED!!! You're my new hero XD. Too many memories bring me to tears here, especially when you flashed that MegaMan 2 Nintendo power volume 7. I owned a copy of that one and I read it over and over again... MegaMan 2 was truly one of the greatest console (not just NES ) games ever made, but my favorite will always be MegaMan 3. I hope you run a walkthrough of that one :) .
What a superb overview sir! I will never forget when me and my friends set up several NES units at my bar mitzvah party and I encountered MMII for the first time 🙂
There were a lot of useful ideas I had never thought of even though Ive beaten this game many times. Like time stopping the falling spikes. Good idea.
That's what I loved about all the Megaman games in the series. Once you figure out what weapons kill the bosses faster it makes every level easy.
@U Can Beat Video Games: Clash Man and Crash Man have the same spelling in the Katakana/Hiragana, so it isn't really a name change.
Flash Man...The King of Indecent Exposure!
I almost missed it. Glad I caught it!
Thanks!! Very interesting look into the artists mind there, I wonder how long he played it before drawing that?
I personally preferred Megamans 3 (The first one I played) and 4 (The one I actually bought). But still MAJOR respect for this one for making it a permanent franchise!
Agreed I prefer 1 and 3 and 4 to this one.
I remember recording gameplay of this game on my mom's VCR when i was a kid. Even back then we loved watching gameplay, and the sound track was fire and still is.
I didn't record anything until SNES - I wish I had, tho! That would be cool to watch back!
Soundtrack is incredible. Thanks for watching!
Someone’s on the road to becoming a hit channel on RUclips for retro gaming.
Mentioning the Robot Master design contest brought me back to when Capcom did the same thing for Mega Man 6, and opened it up to markets outside of Japan. I entered that one, and while none of my designs were used, I still felt like part of something big. :)
I thought I knew everything about this game but I had never heard about holding a and b when selecting a stage to change the background. Awesome!
Thanks!! Always love showing people something new!
My favourite mega man game and for me the best mega man tunes out of the whole series
Pondering whether it was "lead" as in the metal, or "lead" as in lead/follow,
considering one of the best uses was to use it to "lead" in front of you to find traps and such.
5:04 OMFG TY for sharing this unknown to me aspect!
