    Episode 13
Ninja Gaiden has a reputation for being one of the most difficult video games ever made! Many have played this game, but only a few have ever finished it!
Aside from its notorious difficulty, Ninja Gaiden revolutionized the way that video games tell a story. Before Ninja Gaiden, most games' stories were told through big blocks of text. This game changed all of that, and made fully illustrated story sequences the standard.
In this video I will reveal the secrets you need to finally conquer this mountain of a game! In addition to featuring ALL of the game's cut scenes for your viewing pleasure, we'll learn:
    * Detailed strategies for completing all 6 of the game's difficult Acts!
    * Where to find key power ups - Extra lives, Extra health, Special weapons - its ALL in here!
    * MULTIPLE strategies for EVERY BOSS!
    * How to use the super powerful Spin Slash attack, but also strategies for completing the game without it!
    * Enemy data for all of the bosses, AND MORE!
    Thanks for watching!

Even I have the same sentiments as pretty much everyone else does about this channel. I like UCBVG's humor and professional approach to these retro titles of games. Nice to know that he seems quite calm and friendly for the most part in his video presentations of each game, unlike other gamers who might act rather ticked off about not having their way in the game at all times.
Plus, it's great to have a "making of" intro to each game and its history, which makes things more interesting, along with information on where to find a copy of each game.

This game has a unique way of calculating damage and multi-hit weapons. Enemies have no hit invincibility, which is why the jumping slash just buzzsaws through everything. T he big red throwing star does, as well, though it's less noticeable - "boss" enemies take the initial hit but then cancel the star, so they only get tapped once. However, the windmill throwing star chews through non-bosses that take multiple hits, as well as the few "boss" monsters that lack boss immunity. The fake Kelbeross, and the final demon's head and tail can both be destroyed with one well-placed star if it stays on their sprite long enough to drain their health.

Man, this game and TMNT for the NES were my childhood nightmares. I spent months playing them and figuring out enemy spawn points, despawn points, attack patterns, and where every item were. I think I studied harder on this game than I did for a lot of my schoolwork XD.
Those birds man. I think my best friend screamed when he saw them flying at him like homing missiles and he starting saying stuff like "What the hell did I do to the birds for you guys to hate me so much?"
Stellar music and some of the best 8-bit soundtracks from the NES era. Whenever anyone mentions Ninja Gaiden, my thoughts immediately goes to the Stage 4-2/Ending Credits theme. This was the first real story driven game that I can remember playing too, with multiple cutscenes and an actual plot that wouldn't be completely out of place in a spy/thriller film. It's still one of my favorite NES games of all time.

I played it when it came out in 1989 and just beat it tonight for the very first time.
In 6-2, get the Windmill Star at the start. You can kill the jack-o-killer right before the flying ninjas and then jump and whip the star around you. It clears out the first round pretty well.
Missing the first time freeze in 6-3 isn't that bad. You can time the first drop between the Axe Thrower and his axe and then kill him quickly, climb the wall, and spin-slash into the jack-o-killer. For the second time freeze, if you don't get it on the first try, don't pick it up until you've got a clear path to the next wall, or you won't get to the top before the next batch of Creepers spawns.

I remember playing this in 1992 with my schoolmates. One of us has rent the game from some guy nobody knew very well. Then we never passed the hardest part of the Stage 6-2. It would have been funny to see how we 8-year-olds would have reacted when died in 6-4 and has to play it over and over again from stage 6-1. Today I finally beated this game using the Spinslash-technique. It was surprisingly difficult to save it until final bosses. I never knew even that pressing down d-pad you can hit normally and not wasting ninja points when having spinslash-attack. Thank you so much for the great content and greetings from Finland! :)

Another trick used by speedrunners: when you jump and hold the "down" button, you can mash the attach button, and it will attack as many times. In normal circumstances, the attack has a delay, but this trick allows you to deal a lot of damage, especially to all act 6 bosses, since you damage them during jump anyway.

Another fun technical detail: Most of Jashin's body is just a background graphic (hence why there is no "other' background). The head is an active sprite, the tail is an active sprite, and the "heart" that you can see pulsating... is actually the same graphic as his head, only obscured behind the body!

@U Can Beat Video Games the NES really couldn't handle single giant sprites, but there were tricks they could do with smaller images composited, or background graphics. Note how often a "big" boss in a game shows up when there coincidentally is no background - that's because the big boss monster is the background graphic!

Nice Video! It's great to see other peoples take on the best tactics to beat this most excellent of ninja games.
I rarely use the spin slash on the bosses, and most times don't even use whatever ninpo I have. Just ninja agility and the trusty Dragon Sword!
To beat Bomberhead I just run straight at him and crouch under his attack, slash (for about half his energy), then run back to the right, duck and slash again, and it's over!
With The Jaquio, I wall jump (immediately) to the top of the left hand wall/pillar, then as The Jaquio comes towards me, I jump straight at him, (not his fireballs) which bounces Ryu onto the top of the pillar he was clinging to. Then just concentrate of hitting every one of Jaq's fireballs, just ignoring the Jaquio himself, and (despite the small damage from bouncing off him), he's soon beaten with little effort.
    - Also, I reckon the boss Kelbeross' name is an (incorrect) phonetic translation of Cerberus (the multi-headed guard hound of Hades in Greek Mythology)
I never pay much attention to which items I'm collecting , I just collect everything in my path. Though after playing this game through many times I generally know which item I'll have when I reach the odd awkward enemy , but I usually only need the basic shuriken or Windmill Star to shoot only 3 or 4 enemies throughout the entire game. (a couple across gaps - like that bat on 5-3, and those white boomerang guys). So I just let the game dictate which item I'll have at each point in the game, and it works out just fine.
It seems to me that the game was designed to be raced through at pace with as little stopping as possible. I find that most seemingly impossible sections are best navigated by by just rushing to the right (or the left) and developing your ninja reflexes to just jump and slash (with perfect timing of course) in as smooth and efficient a course as possible - be a ninja basically!
Ninja Gaiden is such perfection, I can't think of another ninja game that betters it - even Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3, Shinobi and Tenchu don't quite match the feeling of purpose and mastery that Tecmo created in this seminal masterpiece!
