Then you can get 999 hearts and you can leave the fortress with full hearts and full bottles. If your health goes down just go back to the hot spring and fill it back up as you collect the hearts over and over.

Hmm i recall back in the day, in the very start of the first level is a shop, with really useful items that you have no hope of ever having collected enough to buy - but if you held down a certain set of controls it allowed you to buy the item on credit, and then pay it off with later collected funds. (it was something like up or down or something and you could buy it anyway even if hearts go negative) It was in a strategy guide i had back in the day, but so far all i can see online about that trick is the a+b lower price trick. It tended to make things difficult in later shopws however if you had not paid it off yet, it became a handicap.

really enjoying your channel, i grew up with a win98 pc, psone/n64 and a colour gameboy. i did play some games on my brothers nes & snes but those were extremely difficult for me as a kid, the only game i could play without too much pain was smb3 & smw. your channel has shown me the beauty in 8 bit gaming. seeing these games on the nes explained, i can now appreciate the depth and gameplay loop in these 8 bit classics.
Just to clear up any confusion regarding your treasure room strat: When you say ‘count up your hearts’ and refer to the chart, what you mean is actually ‘count up the hearts you’ve revealed in the treasure room after you’ve opened the first 3 chests’ (bottom right, top two on upper left) - not how many hearts are in your possession. Quite possible I was the only person confused lol, but thought I’d share anyway! Great job as always, always looking forward to your next video!
I’ve seen your videos recommended for years but never clicked until now because the name of the channel sounded stupid. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that your videos are not stupid but rather informative and nostalgic.
this is the kind of video ive been looking for, i remember all these games from when i was a kid but i never beat them or finished them 100%, keep up the great videos!
This game is a classic…but my god it gave me nightmares as a kid for how damn hard it was. Thank you so much for making my childhood’s bane possible to beat after 34 years of playing this beast!
I am a fan of your channel! Can't stop watching your videos. I would like to request that you do an Ultimate Guide for Battle of Olympus some day! It was one of my first action side scrolling games as a kid and it was a lot of fun. Frustration came at times with collecting olives and keeping the olives for items! The music was actually pretty good for the NES. Keep up the good work! Look forward to see what is next!
I played this through so many times as a kid. Great thing was you got to play over from the start, but with the stuff you carried to the ending. Still have it to my Nintendo somewhere :)
Just now watching some of your older videos. I played this and figured how to level up and beat it while only 8. Having the precursor magazine to nintedo power that showed all the vase room item location helped alot too. One of my favorite games.
This is one of the first games that I remember having to grind immediately just to be able to play. There were a few NES games like that. If you didn't realize that you had to grind before you actually started, you had no chance. Fester's quest comes to mind.
Thanks mate you are a legend for this help and other classic Nintendo games. A am a older gamer and love playing classics on switch and a have been watching a few of your videos and they helped me big time so nice one you legend. Respect from old Scottish gamer.
Thanks man, you earned yourself a sub 🙂 I’ve tried this game a good few times over the years but knew I was missing out on items etc because I didn’t know what I needed to do to get them - from what I can find there aren’t any walkthroughs on RUclips by people who know what they are doing, UNTIL NOW!! - I shall study this and get KI beat once and for all!
Thanks for the sub! Before I made this channel, I also noticed there wasn't much on RUclips where someone really went deep on these old games. Glad you're enjoying it!!
I always use the second Ganewmede (the tan ones) room in the first fortress to get my total score over 200,000 points, going back and forth between the hot spring room and the room, and occasionally, if I have a barrel, going up and through the loop again to cash out at the store, filling up my barrel with Water of Life. This is my favorite game. Loved this as a kid and replay it at least once a year as an adult.
Oh wow, thank you! I played this game as a child so many times. I managed to beat it, but never got the best ending. I’ll also never forget the code which was written in pen in the game manual from the store I rented it from: ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS!
I almost mentioned that code, but I was worried it would cause confusion because it doesn't work on the Nintendo Switch version. No idea why they messed with the password system - very weird!
I really enjoy your walk-throughs. You include the shortcuts, but actually show the intended routes! I only like doing the shortcuts after I beat the game once, I’m so I hope I can try to beat some of the games you’ve featured. This and Metroid are high on my list to comolete
Thank you for this video. I wasn't having a great time trying to figure out this game and your video was a perfect walkthrough to understand how to get started and actually enjoy the game. It's a great game!
I once saw an article describing Kid Icarus as one of the toughest videogames ever made. That made me smile as I recall beating this multiple times on a single playthrough without dying.
It seems hard at first, but once you get going its not too bad at all! I'd bet whoever wrote that article got stuck early on and never pushed through to the later parts.
Was introduced to Zelda, Metroid and Kid Icarus from my cousin. He would bring the games over early Sat morning and we would just play the games while eating cup O Noodles and get some ice cream from the Ice Cream trucks. We would just chill and take our time to enjoy the games. For Kid Icarus I know it takes 50,000 pts to get the 3rd bar but it was just a chore for stage 1-1, so we just get 20,000 so we can get the 2nd bar. And on stage 1-2 get another 30,000 to get the 3rd bar. There were a lot of secrets with the game especially jumping from the top left side and ending up on the right side. Didn't know about the sliding move you did on the stage 1 boss to pass the brick wall. That would save so much time.
I beat Kid Icarus with this guide, you did an amazing job and I thank you greatly. So far, that's 4 games for me using your guides: TMNT 1, Batman, Ninja Gaiden and Kid Icarus. I've already beat Ghosts n Goblins and when I was a kid I beat Battletoads, but I think it's going to be time soon to beat that SOB again. I also beat Ducktales, Mike Tyson's Punchout with Tyson and Dream, Little Nemo, Crystalis, SMB2, Metroid and Zelda 2, most of these recently and as a kid. I'd like to see you do a guide on Yo Noid! For some reason, that one has eluded me. I'm a big 8bit gamer and really appreciate all the love you give the NES. This was my childhood, it's like a trip back in time :)
Thanks for letting me know, John! I love hearing about people being able to finish games after watching one of my guides, and FOUR is even better! Congratulations! I'll definitely put Yo! Noid on my list! I played it a bit recently, and you're right - that game is tough!
My god, what an incomprehensible mess of a leveling system, LOL. No wonder 9-year-old me couldn't make it past the first palace. Thanks so much for the in-depth commentary and editing you put into these, man. Hoping you get to Solomon's Key - another classic NES game that tortured me as a kid. Cheers!
The production value in these videos is completely insane. Research, recording the game play, recording the voice over, editing...AND you do these like one a week? FUCK dude
This is the first video I've ever seen of yours and your voice is very soothing LOL Very nice video! Super relaxing, I really enjoyed it. Think I might give the game a try for myself.
This is late as hell but I just played it on the switch using the nes game player. Literally cannot thank you enough dude you made my life easier by explaining everything!! I had so much fun playing it! I enjoyed the music so much too but lmao since it was my first time it took me like a couple of extra hours😂.
Great, soothing commentary. Obviously you put a lot of effort into your content. Thinking of hard NES games, what about Transformers? Could you keep the soothing voice 👀
I only every got to the first Fortress as a kid and always got stuck as an eggplant. All your info up to there about skill points, score, sacred treasures... even down to intimidating the shopkeep etc... I literally never knew. The joys of growing up with games in the 80's huh? Would love a HD remake of this game but with the ability to go back and forth (like a Metroidvania).
I got this before metoird in the states here as a kid, so it was always my favorite NES game ever. This video was like a wet dream. I never knew any of the shortcuts or the skill points. I just knew if I killed as many things and didn't get hit and used the Nintendo power guide on the guessing bags, I could get all the upgrades. You taught me so much, thank you. By the way, you missed some parts where reapers are easier shot from underneath aiming up in the beginning. :p Wonderful video!
This game is one of the best examples of the "Nintendo Hard" trope from that era. Particularly because the game *immediately* hits you with a series of super-precise jumps, where if you miss and dont have a feather (and you probably wont) you'll have to start a very long level all over again. And then you get even more really hard jumps like that over and over and over... most platformers take at least some time to build up to the really tough jumps, but this one just does it from the start. I'm betting a ton of players back then found themselves stuck, unable to ever reach that first fortress. And then there's the very hard to get healing items, constant enemies, spikes and lava everywhere, and entire game mechanics that are just never explained. As much as I just adore retro games, it's easy to see why game design in general tended to push away from that stuff, even in indie games modeled after the old retro style. Well, usually games these days try to avoid that stuff, not always. You still get games like Dark Souls that just go "LOL do the last 2 hours over again because that hidden zombie just pushed you off a cliff".
Loving the videos. Just downloaded the online NES version on my switch. I don't think I ever made it past the first level as a kid, so this is a welcome challenge, but with the knowledge I always needed. Currently trying to figure out how your so good at spawning and killing the guys on level one. Kudos!
This is like the time when I bought a videogame magazine and read the entire walkthrough of a game that I don't own just to "experience" it but 100 times better haha

It's amazing the angel references made it past Nintendo's own obsessive censorship. I'm amazedicus (Sorry, sorry. I LOVED Captain N as a kid :D)
really enjoying your channel, i grew up with a win98 pc, psone/n64 and a colour gameboy. i did play some games on my brothers nes & snes but those were extremely difficult for me as a kid, the only game i could play without too much pain was smb3 & smw. your channel has shown me the beauty in 8 bit gaming. seeing these games on the nes explained, i can now appreciate the depth and gameplay loop in these 8 bit classics.
Just to clear up any confusion regarding your treasure room strat:
When you say ‘count up your hearts’ and refer to the chart, what you mean is actually ‘count up the hearts you’ve revealed in the treasure room after you’ve opened the first 3 chests’ (bottom right, top two on upper left) - not how many hearts are in your possession.
I love your videos! Played many when I was younger but not everything. So watching your videos shows me what games I missed. :)
Glad you're enjoying it! Thanks, man!
This was the best walk thru ever! Thanks for all of your hard work!
Thanks! Im glad you enjoyed it!!
This is probably one of my 3 favorite channels on youtube, keep em commin sir, good work!
One of my favorite games.
i loved this game. I beat it once when i was a kid and i was so excited. loved it.
Love your channel! It brings back a lot of great memories. Real good stuff!
Thanks, Nat!
I never heard of Pitt until watching captain N. And the classic allowed me to play it.
Still haven’t beat it, so thank Paloma for this video.
Another great one. Informative and fun. Keeps me looking forward to your content. Also, ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS to go straight to the end.
Thanks Doctor Teeth! That password also gives you unlimited health bottles - pretty sweet! It doesn't work on the Switch, though, for whatever reason.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Or the NES classic. :( Well, the stock game won't work, but the ROM does.
The video I have been waiting for my whole life! Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I wasn't having a great time trying to figure out this game and your video was a perfect walkthrough to understand how to get started and actually enjoy the game. It's a great game!
It really is good once you get started!
3 Years later you still are helping others clear the game!
This is the first game I ever bought with my own money as a kid. Saved up my lawnmowing money and was so happy I picked this game
FUCK dude
Thanks man! I also do a regular 40 hour a week job! Its a lot, but I'm having a good time with it.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames You're doing a great job.
This is the first video I've ever seen of yours and your voice is very soothing LOL
Very nice video! Super relaxing, I really enjoyed it. Think I might give the game a try for myself.
Thanks Hokaru!! Glad you enjoyed it!
I played this game back in the day. I had more satisfaction beating this game than any other because of it's difficulty.
I remember this game and loved it.. I finished it as well back in the day… spent many hours and days on this game. :)
Love the channel, like everyone else…total nostalgia! Tip for beginners (if any left), pressing UP will stop you from sliding on ice. That is all :)
Thanks to you, I’ve finally finished this game! Hardest part by far: Level 1 when you’re weak and have no power ups.
I really like your style, and you are covering some games (this one, Startropics, etc) that I never finished.
Thanks, Charles!
Yeah it is so strange. This game is mystical. They know something about life. Made by some kind of angels, maybe.. half gods.
Just finished the game with some of your advice. Thank you very much! 🎉 Never knew about the Skill-system when I played the game as a kid.
Dude I have been watching your videos and currently, they are my favorite so far! Love everything about them, cheers from Mexico!
Thanks!! 😀
I started watching your channel a little over a week ago and I think i have seen all your videos now. I think this channel is great and so very helpful. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, Jim! I'm always working on new ones!
Oh, I loved playing Kid Icarus. Just saying the name brings back the music in my head.
I remember that old open the bags a certain way trick in an issue of Nintendo Power! Lol. Helped a ton.
Man. This game was such a big part of my childhood.
Thank you for all of these videos. I’m finally learning how to beat these games that I thought were impossible as a child and never played since. I listen/watch at work and unfortunately I’m going to run out of videos soon! I appreciate all the info and tips!
Thanks, Kyle! I have a lot more ideas for more episodes. These do take me a while to make, but there will be more - Stay tuned!
I loved this game as a kid. I did beat it without all the fancy items and glitches.
I have been loving watching all your videos. It's a great nostalgic walk down the games of my childhood (that I still play even today). I can't believe I managed to beat some of these as a kid though - your videos would've been a huge help back then.
Is it just me or have your views seriously jumped up in the last few weeks? 😀
Keep at it 🦾
Thanks, Christopher! The views have been going up exponentially - it's really amazing!
One of my favorites! I never knew about farming the first enemies wow does that make it a LOT easier.
it really does! Thank you!
Your calm voice and incredible skill remind me of the speed runner, Arcus.
I've almost finished all your uploads so a new vid is most welcome, thanks man!
Awesome! Enjoy!!
Awesome video... good job !! Brought good memories as a teenager back in the day !!!
Thanks!!
Thank you for covering Kid Icarus. Metroid and K.I have always meant a ton to me. They are siblings and are both equally amazing ,be it metroid or komayto they are both fabulous lol.
I love pit and palutena dearly and same with samus. I've never been a huge fan of Mario games or the like so I've always been saddened by the series I love taking the backseat. I hope one day pit flies once again , and with samus donning the suit again I know he will have his shot. He's not finished just yet!
Thanks for your amazing content. And if anyone read this apologies for the waxing poetic.
YaY ! I remember This game being super hard, thank you for conquering it with us :)
Thanks for watching, Eddie!
I just got destroyed as a kid and never came back.
This may be my chance.
This was a really well done video. I watched this in one sitting.
I don't know why it took me so long to find this chanel. Awesome stuff.
you're like the bob ross of NES games and it's fantastic, love watching these. right in the childhood
Thanks, Gregory! I love being compared to the late, great Bob Ross!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames the whole "now we wanna do it this way but... if ya don't that's okay too".... just like a relaxing, have fun with it vibe. very chill. keep up the good work
