    Great job on this review. Many creators simply read off abilities and crack an observation here and there, but you also evaluated the class contextually. That's the insight we're looking for. I'm playing this class because I was obsessed with astronomy and astrology as a kid (and crystals!), so I'm combining the lattices and vertices that comprise the language of the heavens (crystal spheres) with those that coalesce in the ground in the form of actual, physical crystals (macro truth distilled in the micro). I'll be eschewing most traditional druid-y stuff, like summoning, animals, plants, etc., for themes like light, underlying cosmic resonance (sound), spiritual guidance/divinations (profession as sort of an "urban shaman" using guidance, augury, divination), disrupting subatomic structure (rock to mud), repairing subatomic structure (mending), and others. So you get this combination of science and mysticism, which I love. This could be a charlatan fortune teller, but she actually has the power to actualize her declarations.

    I feel like you make this sound so happy. When I made a Circle of Stars Druid my backstory was that I got my powers from being touched by an Eldritch Alien Horror and that affected the nature of the... nature magic.

    This Subclass feels pretty much like the celtic high druid tradition. That culture where we think that they have built Stonehenge to calculate with the stars. But as same as the spore druid it kind of messes with the cliche idea of a D&D Druid especialy for the sword coast. I personaly love this subclass idea because I like the idea of a knowledge seeking druid as in the celtic culture alot. And I like it better than the primeval or nordic idea of a pure nature-religios seer, witch or druid. Anyway, good video!

      Totally agree! They mentioned stone circles being a common repository of knowledge for the Circle of Stars Druid and I of course instantly thought of Stonehenge. Glad you liked the video and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    I could see this Circle working in an urban campaign- your druid could be the court astrologer, reading omens in the stars.

    • @MrZAP17
      @MrZAP17 3 года назад +1

      I was thinking that it would be harder in an urban campaign because of light pollution making it harder to see the stars, though that might also be an interesting conflict.

    • @BNRmatt
      @BNRmatt 3 года назад +1

      @@MrZAP17 Good point and that could be an interesting conflict. I suspect there wasn't a lot of light pollution in medieval cities. No streetlights. And leaving a taper, candle, or torch burning all night if you weren't actively needing the light was probably an extravagance. Your mileage may vary in a fantasy setting, of course.

    As a druid player, there is so much that can be done with druids as a class. Especially with how their interact with society!
    There's so much here to work with that people just skip out on? Including druidic and interactions with other circles.
    Like, I'm very happy these recent subclasses had gotten people interested in the apparent "least played class" but it always had value?
    Just imagine how hard it must be to be a druid later in life when you were raised within a city, instead of say, a druid raised within a circle?
    Circle of Stars and Circle of the Land (Desert) probably interact more often than not?
    That said, great video and good coverage.
    Are you really a druid if you're not a little bit eccentric? My friend is playing a celesital warlock, he's going to multiclass into a Star druid.

    While as much as I love the astronomer angle one could take as this class, much like you laid out, I think another really cool idea is that like one of their ancestors was given the gift of being placed among the stars for their deeds as a hero and either said ancestor or the god who placed them among the stars has deemed the character to be the one to inherit the power of that snd all it entails. I think it could especially work into a reluctant hero or one with a sort of imposter syndrome never thinking they can quite escape their legendary ancestors. Let alone now with their new druidic power.

    • @TheGeekPantheon

    I love Druid and I love Circle of the Moon, Land, and Stars! I have learned that I really can just rely on my Wild Shape/Starry Form for most combat duties- after your starry / animal forms and Guiding Bolt, all you need is ONE Concentration spell (Moonbeam) ONE Concentration AOE (Spike Growth) and that covers all of combat. The rest should be Information spells (Speak to Animals/ Identify) a Team Buff or Debuff (Faerie Fire/Pass without Trace) Healing (Healing Word/ Healing Spirit).

    He would have been a druid that returnd from death after a tragedy but he was Stuck in and emovable position that gave him years to only watch and learn from the stars and live off vermin.
    Once free he is now a Druid of the Stars.

    Appreciate it mate for going over the Circle of Stars Druid! This subclass mainly interested me because I played a Great Old One Warlock who was an astronomer and got his powers from the void between the stars and now that there’s a subclass dedicated to that I’m a tad bit jealous but in a good way
    Also it is interesting in that a lot of subclasses within the book use your proficiency bonus rather than modifier, would you consider this a balance decision?

    • @TheGeekPantheon
      @TheGeekPantheon  3 года назад +4

      Glad you liked it! I do think that that move to proficiency bonus allows for balance, but also allows for greater diversity in build. If (for some reason) I wanted my wisdom to be my secondary stat, with my druid wielding a warhammer on the front lines of fights then I would be less hindered by that choice since more things ping off of proficiency bonus rather than an ability modifier.

    If you're a druid player that has a DM/GM concerned about the practicality on how you've obtained those rare ingredients for your spell list:
    This is solved by having your druid attend a circle meeting, even if it's not their circle, not only do you have roleplay options, but you can have your druid player earn their ingredients in this manner.
    Maybe the other druids don't quite trust your player, and you have to earn that trust with a quest that ties in personally with the player, or into the main story of the campaign?
    It doesn't always have to be a circle meeting these things can be earned differently, but this is an easier way to make use of what druids already do and rarely gets spoken about?
    Very happy that my DM allowed this. 🤝

His powers were stripped, and all he has left are tattoos of the constellations from the Shadowfell which empower his magic. He is mapping the stars in Faerun in order to find a way to return and get his revenge and return to the Raven Queen's court.

    I find this interesting my Stars Druid focuses more on the Divination side of it. He is a Royal Court Advisor in the mold of Raspmutant and Nostradamus I gave him a high +3 dex +3 wis and moderate +2 charisma. He is a humanoid peacock using the Kenku stats. He is social face in place of the woodland guide using Insight Persuasion Perception and changing the druids herbalist kit for a calligraphy tools so he makes healing scrolls in place of healing potions
