    Great video! I'd love to see the Abjuration Wizard, Arcana Cleric, Horizon Walker, and Watcher Paladin in a campaign that ends with something like preventing the siege of an area while a bunch of Avengers Endgame style portals start appearing

    This is definitely my favorite subclass too. So flavorful and great abilities. I just started creating a whole campaign setting based off of this. Its set in floating space islands, and the planes are different planets. Aberrations come from a distant planet, and the Order of the Watchers are a secret society that fend them off.

    This was my first choice of Paladin Oath to play as, and I play as a player infrequently, as I am usually the DM. When I found this Paladin Oath I immediately made myself a Protector Aasimar with the Haunted One background.

    I really love the Watcher Paladin, and I was very curious to see how they'd do it in Tasha's. The only criticism that I have is the I don't like the Paladin's aura ability, it feels super bored, not very good, and just like a, "Okay, everyone aways starts a fight within 10ft of me so they gain a +3." I'd personally change it to be that while a Aberrations, Celestials, Elementals, Fey, and Fiends is within the range of your aura, they have disadvantage on all attack rolls against creatures other than you.

    Great summary. The paladin would have to tread lightly in that hypothetical party; if he acted that way all the time I'd tell him "Shush, Greg," then we'd ignore him in the grand tradition of parties ignoring stick in the mud Paladins.

    I really like how with your analysis focused over the flavor and the fantasy behind this particular subclass (which I love). Most reviews focus on the power potential of a class in a vacuum, which is my opinion a bit detrimental. You made the example of Moonbeam, and I can see how that can be seen situational, but let's be honest, it is not always up to the DM to make things happen. If a character has an option, good players WILL find a way to make those powers come into play. So this class it a total S+ to me, because it is very well put together and has a lot of synergy in what it does, especially with the new fighting styles! I can see your order teaching you ways to overcome fiendish darkness, teaching you how to fight blindfolded, or teaching a couple of magical tricks to deal with cunning opponents that would otherwise kite you.

      Thanks so much! I always see the flavor potential before the crunch, and I agree that this subclass is top-tier.

    I think that having a team that matches each other is great but sometimes having characters that are opposite of each other in the same team can lead to a very interesting story. what will be the paladin of the oath of the watchers' reaction to the summoning of a demon by the party's warlock? in my opinion this could create very interesting scenarios.

    • @TheGeekPantheon
      @TheGeekPantheon  3 года назад +6

      I totally agree that a diverse party can create really cool moments and dynamics, as long as players aren't feeling like their concept is being pushed too far. An Oath of the Watcher witnessing a Pact of the Fiend Warlock summoning a demon to the material plane may be too much for them, but the dynamic would certainly be interesting!

    Great video! I’m thinking of multiclassing between an Oath of the Watchers Paladin and a Clockwork Soul Sorcerer (which I also enjoyed your video on btw). I think they’d fit together thematically really well, focusing on order and balance and standing against corruption

    Playing my wood elf watchers paladin in a new campaign. Built a secret police backstory basically guarding reality. Imagine if Heimdal was a goddess and had a secret order made entirely of women. Then taking the observant, dungeon delver, and polearm feats. It’s been super fun so far!

    Hah! Ghostbusters as a DND Party. I like it.
    I'll roll with Venkman as a Watchers Paladin. He's definitely the Charisma guy.
    Egon would probably be a Conjuration or Abjuration Wizard.
    I don't see Ray as a Cleric or Ranger since I think he has the lowest Wisdom in the group. Possibly an Artificer. Maybe an EK.
    Winston would be the party's fighter, probably have the highest Wisdom in the group since intelligence is knowing an avatar of Gozer the Gozerian is standing in front of you, but wisdom is knowing that "When someone asks 'Are you a God?' you say YES!"

    Thx for breaking down the class! I don’t get to play a lot so I’m always curious as to what how the class skills would play out in a real game. I also loved your thoughts on party composition, and now I want to see that trio of watcher, horizon walker, and arcana cleric in action lol

    In my opinion, any of the psi themed classes except for sorcerer could definitly work out. A great subclass tho to get on board with a watcher’s paladin would be the Arcana domain for cleric

    Is there a certain plan you have for the Subclass Deep Dives or you going off whatever subclass you want to talk about? If the latter, I would definitely be interested on a video going over the Circle of Stars Druid! Personally, prior to TCoE, I did not find Druid to be that interesting to play as there is only 1 actually good subclass (being the Moon druid) but honestly having a quick skim over the Circle of Stars and Circle of Wildfire druid... I am really tempted to play one now

    • @TheGeekPantheon
      @TheGeekPantheon  3 года назад +2

      I will definitely keep that in mind! It is very much a combination of what I want to talk about and which it popular based on comments. So I see your comment and will definitely start looking at the Circle of Stars!

    I started role playing my Watcher Paladin, and the premise of the character was that it's kind of paranoid, untrusting and very accusatory. A person who's going around accusing angel worshippers of being idiots who are blind to their own doom, even when it's obviously a very big faux pas. Very fun stuff, especially considering the campaign I'm in is all about Angels and such. Thanks for the video!

    Hello, I'm actually going to play the Watchers Paladin in my first campaign since Highschool. (Which is 3 years) Is it a good subclass for first timers? I never played a subclass for my Paladin in the Highschool DnD. But this subclass is the one that interests me the most. I'm playing a Half-Elf Paladin and I wanted to double check if it's a good subclass to start with.

    By the oath of watchers logic how would they feel about elves, half elves, satyrs, firbolg, genasi, pact warlocks, abberent mind and fey wanderer rangers in the party? Wouldn't that violate their tenets?

    • @TheGeekPantheon
      @TheGeekPantheon  3 года назад +1

      I think that largely depends on the setting and where those various beings come from. But I based on the setting the live would always be "Are you from the Material Plane? If so, then we're cool." So a Fathomless Warlock would be okay because the deep sea creature is from this plane, a fiedish pact...not so much.
