I love RP and this is why I'd love to play one of these: 'Why do you want to come back? Why do you wish to remain here?' The look on the player's faces when they have to explain WHY they want to live would be great!

I’m about to start a campaign as a level 1 grave cleric and this video was very helpful, sent it to my DM, thank you

I suspect Eyes of the Grave is most useful for sorting out who in the tavern is (or is not) a vampire, or similar crowd situations.
Handy if your PC is focused on being a vampire hunter.

I'm kinda surprised that you didn't even mention that the Spare The Dying cantrip uses a bonus action rather than an action to cast!! I'm playing a Hill Dwarf Grave Domain cleric in an upcoming campaign!!

Path to the grave combined with inflict wounds at 2nd level is actually really good

The grave cleric is pretty neat, I feel like they could be interesting multi-classed with a wildfire druid. Mechanically you could remove fire resistance on enemies for your wildfire spirit using Path to the Grave, which is neat. However, I mostly like how thematically they're both about the cycle of life and death, destruction and creation.

Circle of spores is a similar thing

Grave and spores together make the idea of holding life and using it for necromatic moves

I just started 5e from pathfinder and decided to turn my undead hating pathfinder cleric into a 5e grave domain cleric. So I’m learning the mechanics of 5e for spellcasting and a new domain. My DM linked me this video and I am very glad he did. It will help me play it better mechanically.

Ooo, why does your cleric hated undead?! I'm so glad he shared the video and I'm pumped that it's going to help! Thanks for checking out the video.

In her backstory, raised at a temple and was locked in the catacombs by other children when she was 12. Had a run-in with a skeleton. Lots of running for her life and when it was clawing at her, she prayed for help and the skeleton momentarily backed off. Long enough for the the cleric, her mentor, searching for her to bust in and dispatch the skeleton.

Homebrewing a Subclass ability for Grave Domain that a Cleric of this Domain type gets to cast Resurrection spells (Revivify, Raise Dead, etc) without Material Components. Especially if the Cleric gets it the level before he/she would acquire Raise Dead.

  • @TheMichaellathrop
    @TheMichaellathrop 2 года назад +2

I think for the 5th lv spells raise dead is fine, but reincarnation would have more flavor as far as the grave death and rebirth thing. As far as anti life shell I think either contagion or cloudkill would make a better thematic option.

Altered an entire campaign because one of my players chose this subclass. I think they have enjoyed it. I hope they have?! In fact I have worked towards finding purpose for every character played. I believe it has worked well. We still are playing after two years anyway!!!

Witherbloom Student Background gives a Grave Domain the best spell for it, Wither and Bloom. You can knock down your own allies to heal them a full hit die's worth.

Also, the channel divinity can certainly apply if you have either a rogue or a paladin in your party, especially if they land a crit on that creature!! That could be massive damage!!!!! LMAO

Considering dipping into this as a Way of Mercy monk. The flavor mixes so well, and I really need to be a more established healer. So this is a very useful video, thank you!

Kinda wondering at this point (level 5 way of mercy monk) when it would be best to start down the Grave path? Level 6 or 7 looks like the best time to abandon the monk but I’m on the fence about it.

Just discovered your channel and have been going through all the deep dive videos. You've a great format for your videos and I really appreciate the informative takes. If possible could you cover Wildemounte's Echo Knight or Fizban's Drakewarden? I'm currently running a multiclass of the two for my first campaign with my DM helping synergize the classes a little more.

I like the idea of a Reborn Cleric that isn't truely undead but still feels abhorrent & seeks to redeem his twisted nature & serve the gods only to come to terms with the fact that him being reborn isn't his fault & he should serve because it's right, not because of what someone else did to him.
Start off at 12/14/14/10/16/10 (Point Buy 12, 13+1, 13+1, 10, 15+1, 10) as a Reborn_____ (whatever you want). See if your DM lets you use a shovel as a hammer, mace or club for a flavor instead of a regular weapon. At levels 4 & 8 put 2 points into Wisdom to cap it at 20 by the time you get Potent Spellcasting for your Cantrips. At level 12 you could get War Caster to help with your saving throws & run around sword & board for better AC with a shield then get Resilient: Constitution at 16 & Durable at 19. Having a +9 with advantage to concentration saving throws helps a LOT with Guidance & Spirit Guardians. On top of that, having an AC of 19+ & average HP of 163 (I don't know if that's a lot at level 20, never made it that far) means you're pretty tanky for a mid & rear lane caster.

Eyes of the grave doesn't make much sense as an ability. If it's behind total cover you can't sense it or see it and if it's within 60ft of you you should be able to see it anyway. Your GM would have to go out of his way to give you situations where this ability would come into use when the character decides to use it. It's too niche to be useful.

    • @DisgruntledPeasant

You can tell when corpses and bone piles are actually undead lying in wait, you can also spot fancier undead that can pose as mortal like vampires.
I guess it could also stretch to spirits, such as those that can possess things.
      Its niche, but not useless.
