    I thoughht this was going to be a 2 part video and it looks like it will. Ran fine all night, left it turned on all night and in the morning I have a black screen. So a part 2 is coming. That's why I always test equipment a full 24 hours before sending it out, because shit does happen when you have 30+ year old electronics.

    Most vcr's that i see these days are in a similar condition, required new belts, capacitors
    and a full mechanical service.
    New upper head drums are as rare as hens teeth, a couple of decades ago i was replacing them
    most days.
    Like a lot of consumer formats, it was at it's best just before the next one arrived, and they were
    withdrawn from sale very quickly.

    The 6-head 30 kg Mitsubishi video recorders were quite fine. They did "almost" last forever. Have a Philips 6-head VCR where the 4th head gets stuck!

      Could have been. Didn't remember the number, they were total junk. Guide posts used a hex key that pushed a pin that pressed against the guide to stop it from turning. Not a good design.

    Reminds me of the MGA Mitsubishi 19" color TV that my folks bought in 1985, it was a nice set. Then I had it, until 1997, when I finally replaced it, mainly because it was a non-remote control set, and I wanted a bigger screen, plus its cable-ready tuner only went up to channel 63 or something ( had to pay extra $ per month for a cable company tuner box). the Tv still worked fine otherwise.

      It shouldn't unless the CPU is expecting to communicate with it on ice bus. Then it could cause issues.

    Just talking some as I landed here to watch the video. But before I start: I am going to fix that STR-AV920 I asked you about. I pass it every time, 10-15x times a day or more, and it's building up mojo much in the same way I am making an incantation about it right here and now by actually typing this all out haha. Seriously? I hope it is as simple as a cold solder joint, and you know what, I watched enough videos to tell it that way to others here before I asked. Even if transistor and/or paired resistor is shot, I think I will try to fix it anyway by replacing. I will tell you how it went after it gets the first inspection. My tools are in shambles like meter wires, etc... I need to get some new minor stuff like that, solder, flux.... we'll see... but yup. The STR has a mojo now just fingers crossed it's easy. :) Thanks again, in any case. TIme for the show (above.) :)

    • @MrChrisRP
      @MrChrisRP 4 месяца назад

      I got it out of protection mode, stable so far for over 10 minutes. What I did was put 2 + 2 together about things it was saying, not saying, doing and not doing, along with clicks (multiple relays) - unit is mint as can be inside to the eye - I figured it was a DRLC power thing for what I've researched is for other unit control and power or whatnot. I would never be using that. So, I popped it out of circuit from near the voltage regulation fun zone and it did the trick. Now to give it source and speakers and hear if it does something nice. It is saying "CD" on the screen, ready for me as I type. Fingers crossed.

    • @MrChrisRP
      @MrChrisRP 4 месяца назад

      It is a beautiful unit! I have it going 100% no rigging, no nothing else besides remove the connection I told you about - also cleaned it a little not from a technical perspective but mojo (I licked a qtip and rubbed the bulk caps I am not kidding) - I replaced the connection with purpose and all that - unit is working 100% tossing it about left and right like a Tourettes and it is a-ok. Thank you so much for the thoughts to the right direction! It surely made it easier. DRLC is not tripping the protection circuit any longer and blasts music at full volume through the outputs when placing a phono source. heh I never messed with that term or tech before.

    I forgot what we were doing, the monologue at the start was most interesting. How'd they get away with the "bait n switch" thing? Wouldn't that be considered false advertising?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 месяца назад +4

      Not as long as they had at least 1 to sell. I went in and was determined to buy the 333.33 machine. I took the exact amount of cash for the unit with tax. Told them that was all i could afford. Got it our the door and while loading in my car the manager came out and offered me a more expensive model for only 20 more. I said i had no more money so he even offered free fibiabcibf for the 20 bucks to try to get the bait machine back but I didn't bite. Got the machine and used it as a duplicator in my tape duplicating business till it wire out. They were real bastards. I bought my teac v850 there too.

      @@AstrosElectronicsLab yes I was actually able to get the nailed down box out. Took me over an hour to but something that should have been accomplished in 5 minutes. I'm a pretty easy sell because when i go into a store to buy my mind is already made up what i want. If it's not in stock i go to another store but I'm not changing my mind on the model or brand. I know what features i want and I'm not upgrading if paying a dime more. It became a game to get it and i won. The guy following me out to the parking lot was too funny.

      @@12voltvidsMate that legitimately sounds like a scene from a 1980s film. Was he crying too and being overly dramatic? On another not, can you recommend any late model units which are Hi-Fi? Regular or S-VHS. Also fun fact, here in Australia, there are a lot of 6 head VCRs on the market, which play NTSC tape, in both flavours! Both American and Japanese! I feel cheated, could have moved back years ago, played all my American tapes.
