    I'm retired now, but I'll still check in with you, just to make sure you're not preaching any mistakes, LOL. FYI, a thing I used to do for making sure my overlap was 75 to 85% was to count my strokes. I counted yours on the left side of the bonnet and you were right at 21 for the half. The fender I couldn't count, but the LFD was right at 20-21 strokes. For that size vehicle, and in most cases these days, that looked like an average size SUV, the number of strokes was spot on. You're the man Brian, and I just want you to know, B4 retiring I spent the last year recommending your You Tube channel to literally dozens of Ohio painters and wanna be painters. Keep up the good work, I'd have you as my wing man any day.

I remember back in the day working in a terrible booth where i would shoot metallics with the lights off and the old 3m sun gun. The difference between Milton "M" and "V" couplings is huge! I switched my whole shop to the "V" (or Hi-Flow) type. The "V" chucks will also accept an "M" coupling if you don't want to change everything at once. They're a little wobbly when you do that, but 90% fine.

    • @theevilbeard
      @theevilbeard Год назад +3

      Indeed. If you want something a little nicer you can pick up the Prevost fittings, where the coupler is plastic coated so you don't accidentally bang a panel. Don't ruin a job with regular fittings! Air velocity matters!

    Another Great video, Brian! I have a question for you. I've got a 2002 F250 and the paint looks ok for the most part, but there are areas where the clear coat is starting to flake off. I would like to repaint it (same color) but as I'm on SS, it's gonna be a FYI home job. What would you do about the clear coat? Can I just sand and blend in the flaked areas, or how far should I go with removing the clear to prepare it. I know the key word is preparation, preparation, preparation, to get a great final finish. But I'm just not sure how far I need to go to make sure that the old paint doesn't cause problems once I get the new paint applied?

    • @PaintSociety
      @PaintSociety  8 месяцев назад

      You can 180 all the old paint. Then 320 sand. Then 2k surfacer primer and you should be fine to sand that with 400-600 before paint

    What brand spray gun

  • @masterprogrammer8332
    @masterprogrammer8332 Год назад

    A few errors I see, but the end results are very good. Looks like everybody is different :)
    - Mixing black into the gun - I would never think that would be allowed, but again, it seems to be working
    - Plastic sheet around where you paint. I often get flakes sticking into the paint when I remove them, so it was always paper for me. And not just a 5cm, like that yellow tape, but a lot wider. Or maybe paint sticks to these sheets better? Especially at 18:18, the whole sheet seems to be sticking into the paint. It's dry, but I'm sure it's not that dry the following day. Or you waited days to remove the sheets?
    - Starting the base from the bottom - is the colour matching after this? At the Autocolor course, they teach you need to start from the top, and lay down a half coat from a distance at the end, that will bring up the metallic. Especially important with mica and some metallic colours, otherwise it will be flat, and darker.
    - Clearcoat air and fluid on max? Eh, how is it not getting orange peel then? Or maybe it's a very good gun.

    • @PaintSociety
      @PaintSociety  Год назад +1

      The plastic is treated not to flake
      Paint from the bottom up in this case and finish the blend at the top. Less overspray.

    • @richardlambert2028
      @richardlambert2028 Год назад +1

      - As long as the pot you add the colour to is all the colour you have for a full coat, it's fine! (If you had to top up the pot with more colour, it'd be hard rematch more black again).
      - Good quality plastic has static on one side to stop the paint flaking off all over your job when you unmask. There is a specific side you need to spray. The wrong side will leaves flakes. Being in that booth, he would have baked it and the paint is well and truly dry enough to be touched. Any tape is fine, comes down to preference.
      - Everybody has a different preference, as long as you paint your colour match spray out card the same way, you'll get the same result. You can see in person if it's sitting correctly on the panel compared to the blended area.
      - Base coat doesn't really have any build so you don't get orange peel from it. With clear, everyone has their own sweet spot. On my DeVilbiss I have my fluid 2.5 turns out and air around 2 bar. It also depends on the speed of the hardener and thinner used and temp in the booth. Get as slow hardener/thinner as possible to give it time to flow, but not run. There's a sweet spot and the peel will be at a minimum.

      My question was, is your optimized pressure version run on lower psi like what you can with an HTE gun. 18-23psi are WHAT HVLP guns would run at. HTE typically runs at a much lower psi like 9-12 some even lower. That's why I was asking if your spray guns can work at lower psi.

    Hey Brian - thought I'd done a good job following good practice but a part of my metallic after clear looks a bit crazed and webbed as though it's broken up a bit and not smooth. Any ideas why? (I know it's difficult not seeing a pic but can't see an email on you home page.) It is winter here in New Zealand so wondered if it may have been too cold - 59 F - and the clear has reacted with the base which was cured and looked fine prior to clear. Thanks if you can help. (2k aerosol primer, 1k aerosol base and 2k aerosol clear.)

      You cannot mix 1k and 2k products together that is what caused your problem

    • @christopherbrougham
      @christopherbrougham 11 месяцев назад

      @@jamessakimae9655 Uh - yes you can: 1k base is regularly put under 2k clear. Brian here has a video on his channel doing exactly that.

    A great gun, but it's nothing more than a copy of the Japanese Meiji Finer-Core gun .This is a company with a very long tradition I use one of them, perfect atomization and a lot of material savings on the HVLP head.

    Seem expensive for an "affordable" spray gun. But i think if u want the light it may be a good value

      It's actually a great spray gun with similar results to 800-900 spray guns. I have all the spray guns that you could compare to.

    Fk, the gun by itself is 480. With the light it's damn near 900 ain't no little ass light like that worth that much
