    Building a barn on the farm with the Morton Building Company, what a great experience we had and what a wonderful barn to have now to use.

    It's great to see em out there with all the proper equipment they need . When we had a portable building put up in our backyard the company sent a guy out to do the foundation work that didn't even know how to lay out a square .

    I worked for Morton for a lil while. I used to hate getting up there and screwing down that ribbed steel.. especially on those dewy mornings. That shit is slippery as hell, and there were no scissor lifts when i was there. They do make nice buildings and barns tho, and it was fun working all around Texas. I met plenty of women at all the bars too lol. 😉

    awsome! too many of these video's are showing people making one or two mistakes in their garage build videos, which as an engineer, I sorta cringe. (not putting a header, not using enough trusses, not using enough poles, etc. It's great to see a professional job.

      +Norman Graham Thanks this barn shop was inspected by county too and approved so many things had to be code=)

      Aren't the number of trusses and poles to be used dependent upon the weight of the load and the span to be covered? Are you saying that in some cases the builders are not even using enough trusses and or poles to meet the lowest industry standards? Can you post a link to some examples of poor construction so that I can see which ones to avoid when I choose a builder for my pole building?

      When you build with Morton, you get two options for the columns. You can put them in the ground 4+ ft, or bolt them to the foundation. What would you do, and why?

    Nice barn, what will it be used for? also I see you have a lot of barns maybe not all yours but from what I understand is your small scale farm with the two John deere a hobby along with the small red pole barn you build or does it belongs to someone els?

    is there any difference between the clearly building and the Morton building with regard to critical connections. Such as post to ground, truss to post, purlin to Truss's? THANKS FOR THE EXCELLENT BARN VIDEOS!!

    • @RMSpeltzFarm
      @RMSpeltzFarm  8 лет назад +3

      +george poulos Yes the cleary building we built used green treated 2 by 8 in the ground, morton uses a concrete pole in the ground. Both use bolts to attach the trusses to the post which is great and both screw the steel to their building but Morton screws the steel on to the rib and cleary crews to the valley on the steel, the effect is you see the purlins on the cleary when the screws over screw. Also the bird blocking on the back side of the posts with morton is very helpful as cleary doesnt do it. The roof over hang is more true on our morton and hence the gutters hang better also. I like cleary for the cheaper building cost, but if cost isnt issue then use morton with experienced crew

      For a morton build, 6 figures for sure. Any other company, around $25 per square foot maximum if the floors are heated and the height of it. So around 70k

      all modern barns have square poles

    • @sarge1134
      @sarge1134 7 лет назад

      i dont know how they attached them though i have never built a barn that way... usually you do solid square poles 40 inches in to the ground and backfill with concrete

    • @bertveldhuizen8699
      @bertveldhuizen8699 Год назад

      @@sarge1134 They used pema-columns, these are concrete columns with build in brackets that the 2x6 laminated posts are bolted on to.

      But wood flexes and will hold during an earthquake. Nothing is going to survive an extreme quake like that unless it's engineered as such. And any building designed for that will not be affordable. What a dumb law they have.
