My 77 yr old husband and I (73 yrs old) are going The first week of April 2024 -We’ve “never” been to Europe -it’s our first time! This will be the end of our trip. We start out in Paris (2 days) then go to Luxembourg and Riehms France and on the Viking river Rhine cruise through Germany and then 5 days in Switzerland. We’ve never taken a 2 wks vacation. Only 7-10 days. It’s a big deal for us. We obsessed over whether to take this cogwheel train excursion as it was very expensive - but we finally reserved it and took the plunge. I can’t thank you enough for sharing this video as it gives us a Birds Eye view of what to expect. And I’m glad we are going in April!!!

Hello! So glad to know you found this video useful! Have an awesome trip! Europe is soooo picturesque.. and, Trust me, Switzerland won't disappoint you guys! This cogwheel ride is kinda dream ride... In Switzerland, it's hard to find a place that's not scenic! You'll love it, more so in the company of your better half! The Rhine River cruise is also a good experience.. Do share your experiences. Stay safe! Cheers! :) Oh, and you could check out my other videos on Switzerland too.. :)

If you ask me, April is a good time to go.. We also went in April, during Easter holidays..You'll get to see the snow-capped peaks of Swiss Alps! Also, Grindelwald is so picturesque.. 😍Where from are you boarding the train? We boarded from the Grindelwald Grund station..

Yes, Switzerland is Paradise on Earth! 🙂 While opinions may vary from person to person, I'd say around mid-April- you get to see a mix of greenery and snow. This video was shot in mid-April. If you like the video, don't forget to like and share it :)

    Rack and pinion railway.
Centre rail is the rack with teeth and the pinion is the spur gear that mates with it, and powered by the locomotive.
    Simple but very effective.

Thank you for the technical information. On a cogwheel train, the ride is very smooth. Hope you liked the video :)

I certainly did enjoy your video👏👍
Do you know what type of system is used, as there are many.
The first such was in 1812 with the Middleton Railway between Middleton and Leeds in West Yorkshire, using Blenkinsop’s rack loco ‘Salamander’
I’m a steam engine man, having built my own 3.5” and 5” miniature passenger hauling coal fired engines.
The experience I felt that first time, 1970s, when I hauled about 6 adults on a local club track has stayed with me since then.

@@geoffhalstead1811 Glad to know you enjoyed watching the video. You may as well share it with your family & friends who love to travel :) Well, I have zero technical knowledge of systems used in these trains.

I don’t think we are going to take this shore excursion after all; as I have a horrible fear of heights and they say once you get pass the tree line, its steep. I didn’t realize that. This video was on land with trees, houses, grass, animals and its enclosed so I thought I could handle it Also I get dizzy easy and they say you can get altitude sickness!!! Causing difficulty breathing, and headache and nausea. I had RSV virus very bad for 3 mos Sept thru November 2023 with pneumonia, enlarged heart, severe bronchitis and difficulty breathing. My breathing capacity is not what it used to be. And there are no bathrooms onboard and I frequent the bathroom a lot. So I don’t think I’d feel comfortable taking it. I understand it’s an hour long round trip ride and it included a meal at the summit. I just don’t think it would be comfortable for me. My husband has imbalance problems and frequents the bathroom often as well.
