Got the wife hanging from a tree now can’t hear a word , thanks for the advice .
In-the-van Peter ohhh noo lol 😂
Mel’s World , update this technique I’ve just now found also works on mother in laws. Been a great day!
In-the-van Peter brilliant 🤓🤙
@@in-the-vanpeter5157 Two cannibals were having supper. The one said, "I can't stand my mother-in-law." His friend replied, "Then just eat the noodles."
My missus was complaining that she had blisters from using a broom, I asked why she just didn't use the car instead...
I had the same problem with my pump. I ended up putting washing up sponges around it and then put it inside a small bottle. It's now silent and fixed in place well. It makes such a difference
What I did was bought a water proof camera case with he foam inside, lined the box with audio sound damper mat, punched.out the foam in the center to form fit to the pump with a solid price both in front and behind the pump, it is virtually no noise from the pump now
My 1989 florida had diesel heater from factory. Pump was under van. I owned the van for 10 years - pump never failed. So its not an issue. I replaced the internal thimble filter in the pump and it was the original pump too. . Also the pump was hung under van with a rubber hanger like two black bands, one shorter than the other which kept the pump at the correct angle. But really quiet it was.
One of the best guys to learn off of wen it comes to doing ur own van conversion he’s a legend 👍🏻👏
Thank you that’s so nice of you to say 👍🤓👍
This guy is so lovable I don't know how anyone can not like him. A great Channel thanks
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say I really appreciate your encouragement and support 👍
Plastic foam and bubble wrap worked a charm!
OMG gone straight out to the sprinter and done it 🎉❤️ totally amazing
That’s good to hear thanks for taking the time to comment really appreciate your positive feedback 👍🤓👍
Pump vibration has always been a problem for RV'ers (especially water pumps), so proper mounting is critical. My only suggestion to add is that if space allows it to line the cabinets containing noisy accessories with 1" rockwool panels or sound-deadening foam. Thicker 2" lining is better if space isn't a concern.
Fantastic hack ! Love it ! Who would have thought .Great .
Thank you ☺️
I use rubber left over from flat roof to mount/dangle the pump then use silicone tubes, they transfer almost no noise.
Wow Mel what an amazing difference. Props to the guy that suggested it.
Can't believe the snowy scene behind you, all we've had is rain.
Master Ham sometimes the simplest ideas are the best 👍 I’m on top of a hill always get snow 🤓🤙
Good tip! I just bought a diesel heater for my rooftop tent and the methodical ticking of the pump at night was about to drive me nuts.
I’ve tried so many different ways and this is definitely the best way 👍
Great news mate, I had done the same the other week, pump in under bed where my head is normally and finally can use it at night and actually go to bed!
NobleGangsta13 that’s good news I’m still shocked how much difference it’s made 🤓🤙
I just installed a diesel heater in a caravan and so far the pump is not noticeable
from inside and infact hard to even hear outside and the way I did the install
I think just might have solved the pump noise and that is I cut a strip of rubber
from an old thick mud flap bolted one end to the wooden floor of the caravan then
bolted the pump in its own rubber mount to the other end of the rubber strip so it was
hanging free but not so free it would move around. By NOT mounting
any of the fuel line or pump to any metal under the van but to the timber floor
insulated it from transmitting sound. Works for me
That’s brilliant buddy well done I’m going to do a re fit in the summer and I’m definitely going to put my pump underneath the van and take a feed off the main fuel tank it’s got to be the way to go 👍🤓👍
Crikey that noise was annoying, glad you fixed it!
ttxela thanks me too 🤓🤙
I thought of suspecting the pump somehow, certainly it was in the thinking stage, but you did an amazing job finding the cure all to eliminate noise on a cheap easy fix. Thanks for that!
Thank you bill it is always nice to get positive feedback really appreciate your encouragement good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
LOL My diesel heater is running as I watch your video and the ticking from my fuel pump is perfectly in time with the ticking from your fuel pump.:)
Oh no 🤦♂️ lol 😂
Jsss man i just asked in another video about the noise level. I wasn't sure what was causing it, the fan itself or the pump. Such a simple fix bud, that's that sorted. ; }
Thanks bud !
You’re absolutely welcome that’s great it works for you 👍
That is a totaly different machine now what a good hack i have one that i have just installed but i will be installing a thin lead sheet between my underfloor and the cabin. also I might take this hack and use bungy cord because that what we use to suspend domestic fans and that can make a huge difference.
Thanks and you are welcome good luck with yours 🤓👍
I just like your vibe.
It was me who said to hang it from cable ties as well lol . Glad it worked
Mark Gates thank you Mark 🤓🤙
We have those pumps outside on all our trucks. 40 + pumps over 5 years. -40c sometimes and not one pump has failed.
Thought Challenger thank you that’s really reassuring 🤓🤙
Nice effort, best way is to mount them is in a rubber type spider web, also good to suspend the fuel hoses as it can tick tick on any hard surface..Also to note which may have been mentioned hang them vertical...The angle instruction was copied from the original Ebersprecher manual by the Chinese as they are knockoffs, the original was because of their small filter and the angle was needed. These Chinese knockoffs dont have this tiny filter ( bigger filter is actually better) so they should be mounted vertical to avoid the air bubble build up and wear, notice by the sound they should tick not tack...
Thank you some good tips there 👍
Cheers nice one 👍
great helpful tip, Thanks Mel. Installing my pump in May, based on your prevision video, where is propped up on 4 legs and no air intake under the van. So will hang the pump as well. All sounding so good, that I will want summer to end and test the heater lol
Thank you buddy just remember I put my heater on the legs because it’s not a permanent installation I will be moving the heater behind my fridge come the warmer weather and then it will be installed in the normal manner good luck with your build 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld as you said in your video, it's about ease of access and I hear lots of failures of these units and don't want to be under my van in winter, if it fails.
Brilliant absolutely brilliant Pure Genius and so simple Big thumbs up awesome video 👍👍👍
Thank you that’s really kind of you good luck with your build 🍻👍
Hi. You could yous a bit of bungee to suspend the pump, even less noise transfer. Cheers, Jim.
That’s a great idea 👍
Better idea 💡 Mel. Two long bolts ( threaded bar out of a sheet of ply , bungee wrapped tight and cable tie the pump to that , even at the correct angle 📐. 👍
Brilliant idea 👍👍
I shall be doing this in Betty 👍👍
Perfect timing, I've just got my heater running today but not tied anything down yet. My pump is currently screwed to a lump of wood and just placed on the floor.
Cmdr Pugwash brilliant 🤓🤙
That’s amazing Mel thanks for doing a video on it and thanks to the chap that sent it in to you. Love your videos Mel keep them coming.
Thank you really appreciate your feedback and support 🤓🤙
Brillient!! Might add a bit of elastic as well. Thanks mate.
You’re absolutely thank you for your positive feedback really appreciated
Great vid / handy hint . Never had that luxury ,just extra blankets & woolly hat & socks . Keep up the good work fella .
Thank you 😊 stay safe out there 👍
wire ties, with rubber bands works also, good info
Cheers 🍻 👍🤓
Worked for me too, thanks Mel. Used some zippy clips (cable ties) around the ends of the pump
Pete Maguire brilliant I’m so pleased it works I’m getting lots of positive feedback from it whoever would have thought such a simple solution to such a pain in the ear would work 🤓🤙
It is pratically good idea to have a box to be insulated with foam inside with a door before suspending the noisy device. It would be a perfect heater working hard for most of your outdoor winter trips. The controllable outdoor fresh air supply should be connected to emerge into one duct with return room air back to the heater for reheating. Thus the system will be more economical and contributing a much reliable heater .
Thank you 🙏
Cheers mate... suspending it has worked a treat.... 👍
That’s brilliant glad it helped you feel free the share the video on Facebook or whatever social media you use thanks for your support really appreciated 🤓👍
You can attach this pump to a square piece of rubber mat or silicone baking sheet and then attach it to any surface. It will be easier to maintain a 30 degree pump angle.
Thank you that’s a great idea
what a pumping idea,,,cheers my friend
Haha brilliant 👍😊👍
Hy Mel, i am happy to hear (btw) not to hear the ticks anymore.
Good job, great solution. thumbs up.
greetings walter
Gnagnie thank you Walter 🤓🤙
This is almost two years late to the party, but, I would be willing to bet a little sound deadening material, like they use in cars and vans, lining the inside of that cabinet would finish the silencing of your heater pump!
You’re probably rite it would really finish it off
hmmm very good point about trying to fix your heater outside in the cold... why would you !
Hi thanks buddy 👍
thanks for the handy tip. Will be trying this in ours when it comes to fitting.
Isle Explore your welcome 🤓🤙
perhaps insulate the cupboard inside and it will be silent.
Gorgeous scenery. It looks so cosy in your van with the snowy backdrop 😊
Good tip.
Thank you 😊
You might try putting insulation around it now. It may quiet it down now that it's not attached to the frame anymore. Bet you can't hear nothing if you do that now.
Thank you 😊
I tried suspending the pump between two brackets with a piece of elastic between, but didn't make much difference, so i abandoned a similar spring idea. Part of the problem is the noise travels down the tubing. Might have been better if the tubing was all rubber fuel hose. On ebay it's cheap enough. For now just wrapped load of insulation around it. Was tempted to just chuck it and the filter inside the tank. A good start point is to just hold it up in the hand and see how noisy it is.
fly bobbie rubber have a go let us know 🤓🤙
Mines been ticking since I'm had it so will try your method. My heater is in side as well
Good luck 👍😊👍

Wow, what a difference in noise. Definite success 👍

Thanks Mel, I’ll defo be copying that when I get my heater and fit it.
Brilliant. Mel any chance you could take a better shot of it cannot actually see it behind the waste pipe. Be nice to see how you secured it.

Thanks for the heads up ! I was going to mount mine at the back of the bed lol . For sure going to find a place to hang it !

Hi Mel, I put mine in the engine bay, easy to get to and a well insulated place so can’t hear it at all
That’s a great idea 👍🤓
Good info for the guys who're going crazy with the clicking from those Chinese pumps Mel.
Have you got your snow chains handy or fitted, I feel a snow chain tip or trick coming soon before she melts Mel, why not take advantage of it ha.
Good to see you warm and toasty enjoying your van 😊
pa maj no lol no snow chains needed 🤓🤙
@@BigVanSmallWorld When I say chains I mean the use of rope around tyres or the likes for getting out of tight spots or up hills although Personally I've never needed them myself.
We haven't had snow around Bangor yet this winter 😊
wow brilliant advice. That noise would drive me mad thankyou Mel x
Sarah Oliver you are welcome.
Thank you for your feedback 🤓🤙
My furnace makes so much noise that I want to tack it out and put a Diesel heater. Wondering if I could run the fresh air intake and the exhaust pipe out the existing set up .
hiya mel i had an erber d2 it was niosy had a faulty fan repairs would have run into hundreds i see alot of people running the chinese heaters for the price i think they are a no brainer i cant always run my small log burner if i parked up in towns i draws to much atention so i realy think this would be ideal now you sorted the noisy pump great vid pal
Sliding in on a shrimp sandwich now make. Meegwech brother ✌️🇨🇦✌️
I have no idea 🤷♂️ but thank you anyway 👍🍻👍
Much better tapping noises can drive you bonkers sometimes. I've put my curtain up by my van rear doors to stop some of the drafts but I pinned some foil wrap insulation inside the lining first made a big difference.
Roger Faulkner thanks and yes I need to make curtains yet for my back doors 🤓🤙
I have had a brain wave and will experiment tomorrow. Just bought two stainless vacuum flasks from the Range with a neck big enough for the pump and pipes to fit in. One is the traditional type, the other is a jug.
Without ruining the caps i will initially use some card and tape to block off with insulation inside the flask. Just tried dropping a mobile phone on ringer inside, quite substantial drop in sound.
If it doesn't work, i will just take them back.
fly bobbie good luck 🤓🤙
I'll give that a try, thanks.
You’re welcome let me know how you get on 👍🤓
Well done Mel I was going to do a similar fixing when I'm at that stage. I was also going to try wrapping the pump in a dense material which should make it silent I'm guessing 👍
Mark Velo thank you 🤓🤙
Alternatively use rubber washers to form an anti vibration mount to acoustically isolate the pump from what ever you have mounted the pump too.
The fuel pump is meant to be under the floor of the van, where no doubt it would be less irritating.
That much is clear from the location of the fuel inlet which when properly bolted to the floor, is only accesible from under the van.
Matthew Jenkins makes perfect sense but like I say in my vlog I prefer everything inside for easy maintenance that’s the beauty of building yourself you get to do it your way. Thanks for watching and commenting if you haven’t already please consider subscribing really appreciate your support 🤓🤙
Great video mel 👍 saved me again
No worries good to know thanks for the comment 👍😊👍
Thanks for the advice. Just about to install kne of these. I'm still scared stiff that I could die from the fumes.
Adventure Aways you are welcome as long as you fit it rite you will be perfectly safe but get a CO alarm for peace of mind good luck 👍🤓👍
I vented 2 windows and stayed for about 7 nights while running this. The first night, I could hardly sleep. A diesel heater- what could go wrong? lol. Did not want to die from fumes but surprisingly, my small opening of both side of the window gave me enough courage to sleep and every night after the 3rd, I went to sleep with no worries. 2nd night, the clicking woke me up. Did some research and that is just the tiny pump pumping the fuel to the heater. After I understood those noises were normal, I was a little bit more calm but now, I feel like there should be a way to keep the noise down a bit which is what brought me here to the video My Webasto diesel does keep it toasty and I am thankful for that. Fuel lasts a long time. Came to this video trying to find a way to make it quieter and saw your post. Thanks, Mel, for the tip and Adventure Ways- you will be fine AND Warm.
cool vid!!!!
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for the tip so much quieter 👍
Replacing the hard plastic fuel lines for rubber ones will help too.
Andyman have you tried doing this ?
@@BigVanSmallWorld Yes the vibration/noise cannot resonate along a rubber line like it can hard plastic
Andyman and your heater still working?
thank you Mel,i am pumped up on this idea
Step-van Dan hahaha love it that’s brilliant 🤓🤙
there may be snow on the roof, but its hot in the van great video mel ,,,,,
Lee Davies thank you 🤓🤙
That's a great tip Mel cheers
Hi Paul you’re welcome thanks for the positive feedback 👍🤓
They are not a fuel pump in the same sense as you would find in a car. They are a dosing pump. Each click delivers a set dose of fuel and it changes the power of the burn by lowering & raising the does or clicks per minute. None of the parts of these are external grade either, wouldn't last long at all outside even though you sometimes see them like that. The control pcb's are not even waterproofed.
I dipped mine in
plasticoat. This is my wifes account.
So would hanging it affect it any ?
Mine doesn't really have the ticking noise it's just the damn exhaust loud af
Show the end result, let us see it hanging.
Les Roberts I do around the 3 minute mark but it’s behind the waste pipe from the sink You can just see it 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld its a shame we couldn't see it because I want to do it
Fixed mine to the transit bulkhead behind the air filter and ran the fuel lines straight through the door pillar into to rear load bay
AWPHOTOGRAPHIC well done sounds neat 🤓🤙
I have seen the pump for a bunk heater slung with a 1" section of about 3" hose. Hose screwed to bunk, pump bolted to hose.

I used a bungee cord and insulation wrapped around it. It’s still loud but maybe if I remove the insulation it may be the cure....
I’ve thought about making a concrete cast to put it in to deaden it, lol.,

@@BigVanSmallWorld You could sell it as a Christmas item Mel - "Silent Night" heater.....
Buy an eberspacher pump which is quieter. Best solution
If only they didn’t cost as much as the heater
Thanks for this, I just fitted a diesel heater in the caravan as our electric hook up for oil filled radiators an fan heaters is unreliable and trips with high loads, I only really notice the pump when I settle down and it's really quiet, after watching this I might try the rubber isolation grommets as my pump is outside underneath and I'd rather it was good secure.
Many thanks.
Have you had any problems with the pump outside?
@@jayxnina no the pump has been rock solid
