replace the pump with an after market car fuel pump. All you need to know is the fuel pressure. Then regulate the new pumps pressure. Then... Quite, long lasting pump.
Thanks for all the likes. Even after a year later, this long useless intro still pisses me off and wasted 7 minutes of my life just to see the quick answer covered under a few seconds.
I have a 8K all in one Chinese diesel heater in my van the pump clicking Kind of sounds like a clock to me it actually puts me to sleep the sleep so far I've had the diesel heater for 3 years now no major problems
When mounting the pump under my van with the heater at floor level and feeding from the main fuel tank, I found that it's impossible to not break that 'upward flow' rule. I did some testing using the 4mm ID / 6mm OD silicone tube that comes with a lot of the kits and it always formed air bubbles that got trapped over time. I replaced my tube with nylon pneumatic tube which is safe for diesel (2mm ID / 4mm OD). It's so thin you can see the fuel being pushed along the tube with each pulse and it purges any air bubbles very quickly. It's too thin internally for any air bubbles to form and get stuck, even though the pipe snakes up and down around the underside of my van. On a side note, if anyone is mounting the pump outside using the rubber bracket that comes with the heater kits, they perish so quickly. I've tried a few brackets and they lasted no more than six months each. I always tied some backup para cord around the pump in case it came loose when driving.
I’m going to put mine in a sound proof box under the diesel tank on the exterior. 3 spring wraps on a dowel from one side to the other. It should dance as it pumps I think. I gotta do this soon as the cold is coming I gotta do the heater install this month.
try putting it in a small plastic storage box like you would use for lunch with some foam to support it away from the walls of the lunch box. then put it in another slightly larger box again with padding to support the first box. i think a load of foam ear-plugs would make a good packing for the second box.
2024-10-12 I just bought a complete kit from Amazon for $86 Canadian. My other heater lasted 6 years and the pump finally stopped pumping. So i ordered another pump, and an entire system to keep as a spare in my hunting camper.
Just a thought I used to work at home depot and the guys from roxol, and I believe it's changed. Its name used to come in and they do the demonstration of a really loud alarm and all they did was make a box line the box with rocks all safe and sound and the lead you could lift off so he could demonstrate how. Loud it would be and literally as soon as he put. The lid on this earpiercing sound was dead. Quiet just a little something you might want to try
Yeah I actually used to work at Rona a long time ago and we had the same example. I’m sure it would work great but I just didn’t have the space to build a wooden box inside my engine bay haha
when i first got my 8kw summer of 20 the first month i ran it i accidentally ran out of fuel one night after that i didn't hear it again till i just replaced the entire heater for $120 late jan. of 22 so i got about 3 winters out of it my main problem was bearings failing in fan motor it was from dust so use a furnace intake filter and this winter we have been seeing temps of -25f at night so its a hard working machine and anyone who is interested it puts out roughly 24,000 BTU's 100ml ph on low 250ml ph on high im heating a 26' class a
I've got one mounted in the generator bay in my fifthwheel. I'm off grid in North Bay, Ontario. I saw -29c a few times this year. I ues it to heat the bedroom in the nose of the trailer at nigh only. 10L(2.5Gal) is about 2-4 nights(8-10hours each) on a medium setting(2.6Hz -3.2Hz continuous) because the controller doesn't reach into the room. I dont mind the clicking, it's a trade off for the propane furnace($$$ and power hungry). Looking into a heat pump, I've got 1500w of solar with loans for another 250-500w. Batteries are the limiting factor. Lol
I have one in the cab of my pickup and I just used the stupid rubber thing and attached the pump with a 1/4" bolt to the frame and I can barely hear it over the fan. I guess a unibody van must transmit more sound due to not having a frame and rubber body mounts
What symtoms did you have when your pump died? Mine just stopped, cant even prime it manualy. Pump still seems to have continuity but. Hmm ordered new pump hope it fixed it.
Did you have any difficulty running power to the pump? How did you run the electrical wires from the pump in the engine bay to the diesel heater under your seat?
No it was pretty easy, I just followed the fuel line. I also used some spare wire I had to extend the factory oem wire and covered it all in split tubing to protect it.
@@madetoexplore Nice! Thanks for the reply! To avoid having the fuel tank inside my van, I'm planning to mount a small tank inside the engine bay. I did it very simple to ours. Use a car radiator hose. I am into the automotive sector. So i could get one what perfectly fits around the pump. Only the connector part could not fit. Put at the other site whats is free another thick rubber hose into the bigger one so that a lot of the pump is covered with rubber. Big difference according old situation. You can hear it ofcourse but a huge difference than before and at a very comfy level. Think simpel……
I was looking at that radiator hose solution as I am currently installing my kit. My only concern was the heat buildup from the pump. Whilst running should be fine but when you turn the heater off and pump its not working so no diesel cooling at that time but may have residual heat.
I would be interested in knowing how far away from the heater can you mount the pump. Did you extend the fuel line and does it affect anything. Great video. Cheers John from County Durham
Very far. I've used all the fuel line and extended it to get the fuel tank on the side of my cabin. So about 7 meters is no problem at all, just takes longer to prime the first time.
Can you put a "T" where the pump is mounted between the auxiliary tank and the gravity filler to the main tank? Is the pump strong enough to be able to draw the fuel up about 2 feet?
What I did...... put the pump in a medium Styrofoam coffee cup through the bottom then spray GreatStuff Foam in the cup. I haven't had to service it yet so I have no opinion on that. Knock on Wood. It works.
I have my diesel heater in my basement and have no problem with the fuel pump now. I have it suspended with a ziptie from a screw on the wall at a 45 degree angle and wrapped in insulation. It's completely quiet now. Sitting next to it I can't hear it.

I cannot fathom using electrical tape in any context to secure something, much less in a high-heat environment. And no, please DO NOT put wood in your engine bay. 2 years later and this setup is still working great. No kinks, no melted tape, VERY quiet and it’s also easy to access when the pump needs to be replaced. Not sure why you would mention wood in an engine bay?

Just installed my diesel heater and cannot stand the clicking... Going to order the quiet custom one from Australia, already have the afterburner so now time for the pump... Great video but I'll just buy the quiet pump and go that route, no offense but sounds like you've done some damage and kinda don't care much
Yeah that’s probably the easier route. I wouldn’t say I’ve done any damage tho. Had this setup for almost 3 years now and it stills works great! Can’t hear the pump at all either.
Its not so much the pump making noise but the fan is loud like my wife says the plane is just about to take off fasten your seatbelts lol the pump ticking puts me to sleep
I bought another diesel heater and the QC to this thing is lacking when the motor spins up it reverberates through the aluminum casing there is no silicone boot that is suppose to be fitted and the end of the motor it isn't there and it is loud I'm gonna go buy some nylon washers and fit them over the screws that hold the fan motor in place and do around of tuck tape around the motor as well need to quiet this thing down
Thank you guys so much for watching! Do you have any tips for making your diesel heater fuel pump more quiet?
why dint you just warp the pump in dyno mat than put dyno mat were your about to screw or bolt it to it will stake all the eco away
@@lawrence1986ify tried that. It didn’t work very well at all because the vibration transfers through the screw and into the frame.
