Thanks for sharing! The first thing that came to my mind to make the pump be *MUCH* quieter is to firmly attach a container filled with loose lead shot to the pump itself, then isolate the pump + weight from the structure of the van with foam cushion/very flexible fuel line/etc. That will *DRASTICALLY* reduce vibrations being amplified. Another route is to pick up one of these actual silent pumps that a fellow in the UK makes: ruclips.net/video/HOVVoKN5sms/видео.html (Email to contact the maker in the description.)
      Cheers!

I know it's not recommended, but my solution has worked for the last 3 years and I can barely hear the pump. It is just to replace that stiff fuel line with model aircraft silicone rubber tubing all the way up to the short back hose that comes with the pump. The pump is suspended with silicon fuel line rubber as well. Once my enclosure is replaced it's peace no ticking. My fuel run is 2 meters. Keep up the good work.👍👍

  • @KungFuPanda50077
    @KungFuPanda50077 4 месяца назад +1

Fuel line is going down under the van so you can install your pump under the car. Just put an insulation tape on top of it and that's it.

If I had a little "grizzly" wood heater like that I doubt I'd ever use the diesel heater :-) You are right - the "tick" is much more subtle and peaceful. In fact could soothe me to sleep.

The foam cases sold online also help reduce the sound. Using a rubber band to suspend it will also help reduce the sound transmission more than the zip ties.

Hi Mel, it is a tad quieter, but I wouldn't say 'ultra' quiet and certainly not £30 quieter. Although the ticking didn't bother me too much in my T4, I experimented with sound insulation. The best method I found is to build a box out of 20mm softwood big enough for the pump to fit in and pack it loosely with that cheap foam flooring underlay. Then I hung the box with rubber cords scavenged from an old bungee. By the way, your lighting is much better.

  • @johannesgross1732

The ticking sound is being transmitted via longitudinal waves along those hard plastic Diesel tubes/hoses. If you want to avoid this you need to build a loop at input and output and hang the pump loosley together with those loops so it can swing freely.

It sounds a little bit quieter but if you can sleep with it on with the old pump and want to save $30 go for it Personally my all-in-one 8 kW Chinese diesel heater the pump actually puts me to sleep kind of reminds me of a clock ticking after a while I don't even hear it which is kind of Funny It's usually the time I have the most problem sleeping is my 1st night back in the Van after I'd been on some hometime trying to get reused to the sounds again

Well greetings from Tennessee... Well the video is 2 years old but try this trick. I noticed that the installation behind the pump. What if you cover the pump with an insulation box of the same insulation that's mounted to the wall and use some foil tape to put it all together. Maybe some Velcro with some adhesive tape already on the Velcro strips so it can be serviced without having to cut the foil tape every time you have to inspect it...🤔

You have cut 50% of clicking noise. You can probably reduce the noise another 50% by cover sealing the new fuel pump with rubber or silicone. You should also replace the cheap fuel line with silicone and soft rubber clips

The best sound deadener is the blue towel you used to catch the diesel drips. Towelling material is by far the best for overall sound insulation. Has a sound absorption rate that is higher than most professional studio sound barriers.

I got one of these earlier this year and installed it in a dimly lit area but neglected to take off one of the barely visible plastic covers on the fuel pipes, then got very annoyed after I couldn't get it to prime. Finally twigged on my mistake 🤦‍♂And yep it's a bit quieter than the original, much less metallic clunking noise compared to the original. On a side note; I have a Japanese paraffin fired heater that uses a similar piston pump and those are inaudible. i did consider buying one to try out, but they cost more than a whole Chinese diesel heater at over £100!! I think I'll just put up with the clicking.

  • @HILUXCHAINSAW

Wrap bubble wrap around the pump, put the wrapped pump in a box and fill the box with expanding foam. Then fix the box to the wall with screws going through rubber grommets. If the pump ever needs changing you can just pull of the foam off and the pump will still be clean inside the bubble wrap.

Fortunately I can't relate. I have managed to tune the pump thumping out. But I will certainly tell you it shoots my girlfriend through the roof. When it is cold she manages to get over it and others have made a point of letting me know the noise is present. So there is absolutely a market for a quiet pump. Perhaps ignoring annoying noises is my SuperPower. I'm sure my girlfriend has an opinion on that.

I did it very simple to ours. Use a car radiator hose. I am into the automotive sector. So i could get one what perfectly fits around the pump. Only the connector part could not fit. Put at the other site whats is free another thick rubber hose into the bigger one so that a lot of the pump is covered with rubber. Big difference according old situation. You can hear it ofcourse but a huge difference than before and at a very comfy level. Think simpel…..

In a similar vain, 2 of mine are in short pieces of lead waste pipe, with a heavy white fiberglass(i think) insulation stuffed in the ends, and suspended from rubber hangers, which dropped the noise level a fair bit.
Another system has a pump that was claimed to be quieter, bought from heatport(new zealand) called a type E (22mls/SKU: HP-10788 Brand: HEATPORT), which makes a similar difference to the one shown here, so thinking i will try a lead case on it next as well.
Also going to try a lead pipe muffler, as using a 1m length on my old Chinese 5kw diesel generator, shut it up considerably.

Certainly a little quieter, only a suggestion Mel but try wrapping the pump in a pair of the gaiters, them that hikers use on the bottom of there legs to stop stones ect getting in there boots. I came up with that thought whilst watching your vid, going to try it myself now, 👍

Hi Mel why don't you just mount it and the filter under the van put a fuel line loop at each end and mount it to the rubber holder that comes with it... I used the original pump that come with the heater and its silent....... i have the opposite problem now I have to get under the van to make sure it's still ticking .

I made my fuel pump 100% quiet by taking a 4" diameter piece of PVC pipe - 20" long , putting caps on the ends , drilling holes in the end caps for fuel hose to come thru. lined the inside with 8mm flameproof sound deadener and on the outside 15mm sound deadener. Strapped that to the wall and now ZERO tik tik tik at night.
    Cheers.

Hi Mel. definitely the new one is quieter. Anything that helps with the nights sleep is worth the investment.

Mel, please consider replacing those worm drive Jubilee type clips on your heater fuel hoses for proper fuel line clips as they give a much better and more reliable seal.

there is no high pressure side on the pump also it should be outside underneath away from sleeping areas.

Well it is definitely quieter so if it means you can't hear it when laid in your bed then £30 quid well spent.this will help others with the same problem. Well done again you cracked it.

Definitely quieter. For those interested in quieting the motor by boxing it in remember density is what deadens sound. A metal or plasterboard box will deaden the sound far more than any kind if foam or fibre. Pvc is surprisingly good too, and of course suspend rather than fix to any solid surface.

I wrapped my drinking water pump in my sprinter with foam from a thick yoga mat. It quieted it a lot. I would do the same with yours.

Old pump sounded very hard ticking, new one was Definitly more softer but all in all not a great change to be honest,
As a lorry driver I have used lots of different heaters and they all have noise, sometimes just the air coming out but always a noise, I don't think a silent heater excists but would be nice

Mel I would mount your pump vertically. They make air and mounted the way you have it lets air build up in corner of pump = noise. They say mount like you have yours, but you cannot mount vertically on vehicle frame if you wanted to that's why they say mount at angle. I have my pump mounted vertically from four springs in a channel made of wood. it just sits there jiggling around and very quiet. Air cannot get trapped and increase noise. Plus, its completely lubricated at all times no dry areas for piston to wear out. You have room to mount vertically. Cheers Ed

I don't notice much difference in your volume, the new one sounds higher pitch and the old one has more thud. I think since you've mounted yours inside the van, you'll make it much quieter by wrapping the pump in a towel or microfibre cloth and suspending it from bungee cords.
I have exactly the same brand heater as you. It sounded the same when it started up and I got inconsistent performance because it's under my van and I couldn't avoid having some sections of pipe travelling downward from the pump like yours.
It was the air bubbles caused by the diameter of that pipe, and changed it for 2mm ID nylon tube which gets no air bubbles even when fuel is travelling downward. I think the smaller internal diameter makes the fuel delivery more precise.

great vid and info but maybe give your heater a better way to suck in air the that tiny space between it and the wall and if its eaier for it it will work much better! path of least resistance and all that is a real thing

Hey buddy, yeah new one is slightly quieter than the old, though the proof in the pudding would be does it resonate through your pillows while sleeping, and only two people can confirm that, your good self and the better half Becky, all the best mucca

New one is quieter, but for someone who lived mostly in a truck all over europe and asia, a erberspacher makes less noise, with just a very quiet tic tic, rather than a tica tica. But Im about to fit a cheap chinese one in my caravan because an erberspacher is over £500. Ill mount the pump outside on a rubber hanger.

Yes the new one is a little better. But the good thing is you now have a spare one if you have any trouble and no waiting for it . 👍🏻😎👍🏻
