Why am I watching this I know nothing about pens
same
I cri everytim.
so that you can learn something
mcg_vic because I'm high
mcg_vic yeah same here, I have no idea what I'm doing
It's weird to see this whole hidden world of pens, this guy is describing this pen like it's a new iPhone review or something
Got to admit they're pretty fucking cool, I wouldn't mind having one but they're expensive as shit
its funny to think people spend a fortune on electronic junk, and it is ok.However buying a decent fountain pen is considered as uncool. However the fountain pen will still be around in 50 years with a bit of care
Patrick Field, you don't write for a hobby. I do calligraphy every day, and my handwriting is better than the video. To someone like me, this is worth it.
Patrick Field honestly I would prefer a fountain pen over any iPhone anyday
iPhones are not worth the money either
Some say that when you write with the pen you can hear a baby talk.
Seth Perry lol so noisy!!!
Seth Perry you sir, made my day
Best comment I have ever read.
You are absolutely write I also listen it
Outstanding
that nib makes me feel poor
a cat pissing in the street makes me feel poor
BRoke AF
Leah Gibbson i dont think its pure gold it might be plated or filled
Shamir Bidaisee It's 21k gold. Not pure gold.
Theunknownperson54321 2 how can you tell if its pure or not?
"I dont know how i got here but i wouldn't mind having one, how much they go for $70, $80, maybe $100?"
few minutes later
"Oh..."
this one has damnear a pure gold nib. its probably weighs 3 grams, so just the gold is at least $120. plus the craftsmanship.
turtle79070 same
turtle79070 same
turtle79070 lol yeah more like 1000$ . These pens are not for the faint of heart
You like the gorrilaz *flips out*
I'm really stoned and I'm watching pen reviews wtf man
shark barke Same
Its well worth your weed and your time tbh fam.
Lol
Same
same i dont even know how i went from markiplier to pen reviews
And I'm just here writing with free pens I got from people advertising for their company.
Natan The 6th
Sucker. You'll never know the joy of writing with a pen made from unicorn bones with ink made from baby tears.
Johnny Dollar
Hahaha XD
The baby tears sound realy sweet, maybe I try it.
I'm holding out for the free pen advertising the Sailor Pen Co.
Don't worry they on cost anywhere from 700$- 2000$. And that's on the lower end lol
Same
I really hope he means $5.50
+ZombieFreak85 Buddy, don't dream.
+ZombieFreak85 you stupid?
+TheCrimsonCardinal obvi a joke... relax
BrodysRealm really hope doesn't mean joke lol
its a joke
"OH IT'S SO SEXY I NEED ONE OF THOSE"
*finds price*
"NEVERMIND"
ajajajaja
Why am I watching this
Because this is your new fetish.
+Ghost 39 lol
It was until $500+ for a pen.
Because this is literaly *art* *porn*
This nib, in my opinion, has one of the most intricate and unique designs I have ever seen on a FP.
UGH I REALLY WANT THIS PEN AND THE INK YOU USED IS AMAZING BUT DAMN I CAN'T AFFORD IT. It sucks being poor with expensive taste
It sure does
+xxSmilingclouds1x Yeah. You're not poor.
+sageandbone i feel you
You can always save money. In a couple of years, you'll get your pen, if you have a job.
None of us can have nice things.
$800?!?! and i thought 10 dollar packs of pencils at walmart was expensive lmao
EdgyMemeLord69 10$ for a pencil ?!
Tʜᴀᴛ ᴏɴᴇ ɢɪʀʟ he said packs
They have pens on the website that go for 12,000$
D K No way.
Oh dutch I thought you're more cultured than this!
it better do my taxes for me
miranda725 It better cook my goddamn dinner for me at that price.
Nah, but it'll surely inspire you to do your taxes for yourself so you'll have more excuses to use it and write with it every chance you get. It feels so good.
I really like the simple and elegant design of this pen. I think it beautiful and worth it price. And, how did you get so many people who are clueless about fountain pens to accidentally watch the video and stay around to comment? Weird. I guess they are bored and aimlessly watching videos.
It is not about the size, it is how you use it.... or at least that is what my wife says...
Andrew Arndts ..... size DOES matter! (I prefer girth to length, but that's just me. It kills me when men describe their penis and "always" include the half size, like, "Mine is 8 1/2 inches long." Like a hat size!
Lmao 😂
I'm just happy with my plastic lamy
+Claire Sun nothing wrong with that. Lamys are near indestructible.
+The Nibsmith
what does indescribable mean?
Sorry, was supposed to be indestructible.
The Nibsmith
Oh, that makes sense!
I'm just happy with my Bic.
That's quite an impressive pen;I love the craftsmanship!
i love it's size. i especially love the hard rubber it's made from. i love it's nib. the whole package makes for a magneficent writer. come on, you know i'm immature.
Good job, I was literally about to make a dick joke but you beat me to it
NotASkinwalker - xD same dude
Sailor has some of the best quality control. They have done an amazing job at optimizing their nib shape over the company's history.
A lot of these very high dollar pens are purchased not by fountain pen aficionados but ultra wealthy people or as expensive gifts to loved ones in Japan, which are then not used. Kinda sad ... hence the lack of a piston filler.
that ink looks more expensive than my car
That pen with the ink cost more than anything I've ever owned...
***** im going into advertising, more lucrative and I don't have to deal with sick people
Iroshizuku ink usually runs about $40 but it lasts for a while! I've had a bottle of it in Blue-Green for about a year and I have about a quarter of it left.
@@ryansmith6308 20
It is 20
Have you ever considered doing podcasts? I don't know how I ran into this channel (or even just this video) but, you got a really good voice for podcasts or commentating!
+Peter2kx Thank you. I've done podcasting in the past. It was fun.
What the fuck 800 bucks for a pen ??? That is bull shit I'd probably lose that shit in a day at school
+Nibsmith what is the most you've paid for a pen??
+Nibsmith LOL
+business dog Once i thought that the cars hobbie was expensive, and quite useless. I've discovered another just as great and expensive, fountain pens.
I have about $1.50 in pens sitting in a cup in front of me. They are Bic Ballpoint pens, baller as fuck.
They are for whoever that wants to pay for it and can afford to do so, it can be schoolers or anyone really.
Excellent review. Thank you for taking the time to review, edit and post. One of these days I hope to own a Sailor pen.
I love your voice. If I had a voice as silky-smooth and sexy as yours I would be in broadcasting.
Looks like a magnificent pen, for which they want a magnificent price.
Dont know how i got here but nice review
Thank you.
RUclips front page is taking me to some interesting places...
What a nice pen wish I could afford one , it’s nice to write with a good pen makes the writing a great experience which we don’t do much any more!!
Your voice pleases me.
That's what I'm here for.
Very informative review. Just a minor suggestion: since have so many pens handy it might be nice to see the line width compared to those of other manufacturers, say the Pelikan (EF, F, or M). Too expensive --- but that's why your videos are great. :-)
I'm just here watching a video about pens at 2:30 in the morning.
Time well spent
Nice review m man. But I must admit, as a first time viewer the presentation and narration, which is very indulgent, is almost too much like the business card scene in "American Psycho"
Thank you!
This is a great pen! It will be my next pen purchase. Thanks for the great review!
Sorry but, who the fuck buys a pen for 800$?
People that love calligraphy I suppose.
Lots and lots of people. I mean, who spends $7k on a watch (Rolex)? Lot's and lots of people. Who spends $80k+ on a car (BMW, Mercedes, etc.)? Lots and lots of people.
and it do the same work as the cheapest one u can get
you are not buying it in the same way you would buy a normal pen. Luxury items usually retain most of their value after purchase, some might even get pricier over time, so it's more an investment than a consumer product.
Obviously you are not going to sell back a single pen, but a well preserved collection of high value pens is no different from other domestic assets like jewelery or silver cutlery
Who buys a pen like that? It certainly wouldn't be a Walmart stockboy like you. It would be someone who makes a lot of money and can appreciate the difference between a beautifully made pen/nib and the 39-cent ball point you use to endorse your welfare checks.
I NEED PENS...
It writes so beautifully Ö!
I beg to differ, I wrote my research paper on Biomolecules using a pen I got for free from my workplace...
Chitran101 Yes, but how beautifully did you write? Did it stop people passing by?
:p.
Beautiful out of the box choice of color... Great pen, Great review, good job 💯
Thank you Dan for your excellent review and I love watching your Videos, I am from Perth, Australia and a avid fountain pen collector and always write with one and have been doing so for over 18 years now. Regarding the Sailor King Of Pens I am very surprised for a pen this size, Sailor did not make this as a Piston Filler in which I personally think will be much better due to its large size.
It is one very nice pen, I enjoy my Realo and a 1911 I thinks called with a music nib. I wish they made a double broad nib for those of us who like a super broad signature pen.
Thanks for taking time to share this review with us.
How did I get here??'
lmao same thought here
ikr
recomended video, I guess
Destiny.
Sailor makes some awesome nibs. I got a chance to use a few at a pen store in Toronto recently. Wow! It was as you describe. Nice and smooth and tons of line variation if you want it.
That NIB looks so beautiful dipped in that ink!
I like your hand writing. it may be "bad or sloppy" but it's the type of hand writing I like
You remind me of Patrick Bateman for some reason
The voice
"Because I want to fit in."
look at that subtle off-white coloring, the tasteful thickness of it
"As much disdain as I have for this filling system"
I can just picture Bateman going mental after finding this out.
LitArctic mmmhhmm yes he does. he speaks with such detail as well
I tried a King of Pen once with a Medium Naginata Togi nib that is shaped like a sword with a thiner point holding the pen at a high angle down to a broader point holding the pen at a shallow angle. It was on of the best nibs I have ever tried in my life. It will write broader than the standard medium nib FYI. It was epic.
I will warn you it is terminal once you tried one you will need one!
holey hell that's a beautiful pen! haha compared to my 11 dollar pen.
Elizabeth Mandile ...... you actually spent $11 on a pen???
Even though it's old, I enjoyed this review very much! Sadly this pen is now $1,700😧and the Pro Gear you mentioned 4:50 that was $470 is now $800 or more, depending on the finish. Furthermore, they've changed that gorgeous nib engraving design to a more plain one. 😢
All KOP's are now $800 to $2,500. I can't deny that they're some of the most gorgeous and functionally superior production pens on earth, but it's hard to warrant spending a thousand bucks on a single pen. Of course, I could get the Namiki Yukari KOP seven-day set for the low, low price of just $33,000. 😉 Haha!
Have a great day!👍
nice to see a pen vid get over 1 million views
why am I still watching
+lil_king 18x because it's that damn good.
u got me there
+The Nibsmith hahahaha good one
Why are we all?
cause it is well done
Beautiful ink! I just picked up a bottle after seeing it in your review :)
Great review, as usual!
Beautiful Pen. Thank you for the Awesome Video. Keep up the great work. Nick.
I won't disagree with you either, I tried this pen today and after trying several pens I kept coming back to this King Kong of a pen!
From the poop lady hoarder video to a lets play to videos about crime scene clean up, I some how ended up here and I subbed.
At 3:48 I was like "Yes, draw that shit"
Bruh me too, when I'm bored in class
Well... It was very satisfying to watch him write with this pen. Plus this beautiful pen is not for everyone. I would assume you would have to take good care of a pen like that.
Did you say whether this nib was the M or B? I know you said it was a standard nib tuned by John that you got in for a cursive italic mod, but didn't catch what the stock nib is you used for the writing sample
God damn! I actually thought this pen cost like 20$, but holy crap over 1000$
Nice review from an obviously pen-lover connoisseur
Very useful and comprehensive video
The pen itself is an excellent everyday tool
The price in Europe is between 800 and 900 euros (500 more if one chooses the Naginata Togi nib)
So buy it in the states and enjoy
D. Manganas

Great review. I recently received a Pro Gear with a NAGINATA TOGI nib from Engeika. I bought it for the nib & I am amazed. I have other Sailors & the 21k nibs are all extraordinary. Now I want a KOP.
Would you please tell me where I can get it, at the cheapest price? Thank you so very much, excellent video, extremely helpful. Semper Fi.
We need money to get these beatifull and pleaseable pens, this wonderfull writting experience is not so easy.
How did I end up here and why am I watching this when I'm supposed to sleep right now.. but damn the writing is satisfying
As soon as you sell it to me
Saludos desde México ✋🏻
This is a very nicely made video which held my interest completely. I would never spend even 5% of that price on a simple writing utensil.
I can understand that. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
I really want fancy pens like this but my handwriting sucks too much to even be worth it.
milkyway ..... BUT, you'll appreciate your lousy handwriting more with a fountain pen. It's like having a beer budget on champagne taste. Enjoy it if you can!
I was more curious to the Tsutsuji color, as I happen to have Pilot Red from the 70s that looks so much like that color
I love your reviews.
It's so sad that so few people know how to write properly with a fountain pen any more.
Didn't knew that pens too have Unboxing and review.
I want that ink so bad, looks nice
Nice pen indeed, one of my favs in modern.
Nice review, thanks. But you forgot to mention one critical caveat of this pen: it's body is made from ebonite and is therefore very sensitive to UV light, i.e. exposure to daylight and some halogen lights. Over time, the black body will fade into a dark, mushy brown and loose it's shine. So however nice the nib, because of this fact I'm not convinced that the pen is worth it's price tag.
That’s a cool gradient.
I love how you comment back. ( right back at ya style )
Well i guess the price ain't so bad. but what was really surprising was the video length about a pen. 5mins review.
ah but. the voice was syncing well with this kind of category.
Thank you. Did you think the video length was too long or too short?
The Nibsmith i would say it was fine. but it was pretty informational. if i needed to make video about pen. it would definitely be like "this is king sailors pen, price 800, made in,..." that would be about it.
Many pen review videos are much longer than mine. Like 2-3 times longer! I try to condense them as much as possible while providing the most information to help people make a solid purchase. I just don't have the attention span for a 10+ minute video on a pen.
I love Sailor and own three KoPs. Including this very same ebonite King but with silver trim and the Broad nib.
I like piston filling a lot. But I don’t mind C/C too much. And the KoP definitely deserved a more premium converter with larger capacity for a pen of this size and class. And while individual opinions are to be respected and accepted for what they are, I was a bit bemused by your remark of having a ‘disdain’ for c/c filling system. That really smacks of an elitist snobbery of a kind. And I’m somebody who owns very many very expensive pens with different filling systems.
It looks stunning; unfortunately, I have other necessities which make such a purchase unwise.
Enjoy it for those of us who can't!
Here I am, watching pen reviews at 4am
It may be just me that's thinking this, but isn't it kind of a waste to grind a soft nib like this one into an italic nib? Wouldn't it be easier and better to grind a sturdy, non-flexible nib into an italic? I was just curious seeing how this pen is quite expensive.
I LOVE Sailor...the KOP is very good...BUT I prefer the full size 1911 or the Realo for the money after 550-800 ish I just prefer Nakaya for their better fit and finish of their Urushi lacquer or a MB 149 for the piston filler and nib almost as good as the sailor. Plus the 21k nibs are not as "robust" and a little easier to spring I NEVER let anyone try a 21k gold Sailor nib.
Yes I agree...The Sailor is a better deal if you get Japan pricing.
You may go on all you want about finish and flex nibs, but Sailor is a superior pen because it is smooth writing, almost never skips machine! I use my Sailor pen every day (averaging 10 -15 pages a day) and can tell you that it is the best value because of that reliability. People speak of gold and flex nibs as if they are some kind of superior writing. Give me a butter smooth stiff nib every time. Unless it's to stroke an ego, the test of a really serious writing machine is in its reliability, not in the appearance, or ridiculous notion that flex nibs are superior to stiff nibs. So don't knock what you haven't experienced first hand.
I never knew a day would come where I would obsess over a pen
Oh, gosh! It's beautiful! I can only afford the pilot metropolitan; that's no where near the price of that pen!
i was almost hypnotized by your voice. it kept saying to me, "you need this pen! you need this pen!"
by the way, weren't you going to put the link to the seller in Japan? am i missing it?
I love sailor pens but honestly i don't like this pen (by the aesthetic and the price), i will stick either with the procolor 500 or the stardust, its a nice pen but not for me, anyways, amazing video, i loved it.
That is a great looking pen but I have one question. Why would someone pay $800 for a pen or even $100 for that matter? Maybe it's some collectors thing or hobby that I don't understand but I am just fine writing with a pack of pens I can buy from the store for $5-$6. I don't mean anything bad about any of this, I would just like someone to explain to me why spending a couple hundred dollars on a pen is worth it.
The same reason someone would spend $7k on a watch (rolex) or $80k+ on a car (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) as paraphrased by the Nibsmith, who has point. I see no reason to spend so much on a car especially when most places in america and the world have speed limits, but I may spend upwards of 500 bucks on a nice watch, even 150 on nice pen, but then I'm poor. It's all about what you're in to.
Great review!
I watch these vids and love the pens...then look at the prices...
For being head boy at my school I got a fountain pen with my name engraved in it made COMPLETELY out of 24 carat gold. The company that made it only sells fountain pens at £300 and upwards...THE PEN WAS LOST ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER BECAUEE MY BABY BROTHER FOUND IT IN MY ROOM AND LEFT IT SOMEWHERE
Damn. Sorry to hear that. Hope you find it!
The Nibsmith it's okay now, my sister found it in her room
that ink is gorgeous!
+Alexis VM Thanks. It's one of my favs.
I'm surprised that a 21K nib can flex like that. Are you concerned about springing the nib? I always hear that alloys with more gold than a 14K nib are unsuitable for flexing. Is this true?
Thanks and great review as always.
Can you do a review on how well it holds up in the washer and dryer? I've got a stainless steel Parker I paid like 15 bucks for that doesn't leak ink or fill up with water after a full cycle in both the washer and dryer. At $800 this pen must write beautifully a mile deep in the ocean, right?
Just cause something is expensive and can't go into a washing machine doesn't mean it's over priced
It is for my use.
No, because pens aren't designed to go through the washer and dryer.
Pens that are, are.
i misread this as "sailor moon fountain pen" but this is cool too
Great video. Thank you. RS
Acho incrível essas canetas tinteiro!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I only use pens to sign my checks. I have to sign them 12 times a year. Would you consider this a good "check signing" pen?
It looks like there is some decent flex on that pen. (For a modern pen that is). Is that a common property of the standard Sailor nib line (not the specialty nibs), or is that one different? I was just writing with a Pilot Custom 912 with the SM (Soft Medium) nib and I really like it - if the Sailor nibs are similar or better in smoothness or flexibility then I'd definitely like to check them out.
It's hard for me to imagine a 21k nib being strong enough to handle any pressure, but obviously you've shown it can. I had no idea - thanks for the video!
I have two KOP. Best writer ever ! My Omas ranked second.
***** Thanks for the reply. I wish they have a larger ink capacity honestly,it would be perfect.
What features, or lack of features make the lower cost pens cost less. Is it currency differences or feature differences. I own a lovely looking and feeling 1960's Montblanc. Which I love, but the flow of ink is gushing or skipping. I do not want to make that mistake again. You may not know how they compare. But, you seem to be praising the features. Will I get great features & functioning with the lower cost Sailors, or maybe not. Your advice will be appreciated.
+1humboldt101 Generally, lower cost pens will have as little human involvement as possible in the production, be made from injection molded resin, have a steel nib, and a cartridge/converter filling system.
Dan would you recommend this pen to anyone that wants a nice pen that is a good match to the Montblancs and Pelikans. Also do you think it is better to buy a Sailor King Of Pen for about 550 or a Pelikan m800?
I know I'm coming about a year late, but what don't you like about cartridge converters?
Great review! Love the pen!
Does it make any huge difference in your writing if a nib is made of gold, platinum or made from any other metal?
Is the head of the pen built in such a way that allows the ink used to be part of its aesthetic? Or did you simply get lucky with how the ink fell off the pen? 3:00
Great video by the way; it was close to perfect time length and very informative.
Thank you. No, the nib isn't designed to hold onto the ink in any special way. That particular ink (Iroshizuku Tsutsuji) just has a tendency to do that.
Ah, It's a very beautiful ink then.
