    Interesting sawmill. Back 60 years ago when I was a kid, a block from home Jack Franklin - Odon Sawmill - had a steam, converted to electric mill where there was a man on the carriage that would pull the handle to move the log up for next cut. Edging was done by loading the cut lumber back on the carriage for resaw. Your mill is very fast and the edging you do us the first I have ever seen. Super nice video - thanks for posting ....

    I am a forester and have always been fascinated with sawmills. Yours is the most integrated that I watch. Keep sawing and I will keep watching.

    Does the amount of shrinkage vary with the type of wood, or is that a general amount?

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  Год назад

      For hard woods, they generally shrink an 1” for ever 12” of width

    If you're taking requests I'd like to see you do some quartersawn and/or rift sawn lumber.

    Nice work. Do you have a resaw in line?

    How do you line up your logs for the opening cuts? I don't see a vertical laser line.

      @Helmsburgsawmill  Год назад +1

      I apologize that you can’t see it. But if you go back to the beginning of the very first log, and you look really hard, you can see it😉 when I first roll it on and dog it. The log doesn’t sit for long

    Your debarker. Is it the ring type or head type?

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  Год назад

      It’s the head type. Refer to my last video of me sawing cherry. It makes an appearance in that one!

    Personally, I don’t like that last view. However, it’s your channel and you need to do as you see fit
