@@SarahDenglercan you imagine me? I was trying to record her on my iPhone and not shake with emotion. I’m in the 3rd row having to shoot vertical between the two guys in front of me. My video of that is on my channel which you can click through my name to see. I didn’t mention that earlier as it’s a spoiler. But it’s the first and raw version. You can hear the applause unmuted. There is an official video shot by Chip which is the video she used. I link all the official and phone videos in my pinned comment. Including the last night interview with Richard. It’s good stuff. Joe
When I first saw the thumbnail for a video of hers, I thought "yeah, right." And was I blown away. Not only sounding like Karen, but keeps Karen's phrasing and tempo.
Hi Sarah, Thank you for a beautiful and emotional reaction. Yes, this was a “studio version” layered over video and pictures from the church concert where Karen had her funeral and Richard married Mary. As you said, Richard and Cynthia Weil wrote the song but Karen died before even hearing it. It was recorded on Richard’s album Time in 1987 with Dusty Springfield doing the lead vocal. It was a beautiful song but not what we Carpenters fans had hoped for. This rendition by Tori has made reactors like yourself get emotional, some cried. I know when I saw the program at the church, I was there, I knew what the crowd was in for. I guesstimate 80% did NOT know who Tori was and what was about to happen. Three years ago 17 yo Tori made a short of this song, it’s an OMG moment. The version in the church brought the house down, modesty had Tori lower the applause volume. It was the first explosion of the night. Previously it was polite and subdued as l we were in a church! This was no holds barred. Many in that audience knew Karen personally and you can imagine how hard this song hit. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. There is an official video and you can see/hear why she re-recorded it. It was boomy and there was crowd noice, coughing, etc. she then went all out, harmonies and backing vocals, all her. She Produced this by herself with Drew’s piano track. What a masterpiece. Thanks again! Joe
Sarah! You know the killer? She actually engineered this entire song. She DID get a piano track from the pianist, but she determined the harmonies and sang them all herself. And she's very adept at using multitrack decks and professional sequencing software to do this at her home studio BY HERSELF. She's such an incredible singer that her brilliance in audio engineering is overshadowed. She's utterly remarkable. This may be the twentieth time I've heard this and I cry every time, her singing is that gorgeous.
I played Karen Carpenter as my entry song at my wedding. She was wonderful. We had 100 ppl. The words, When two or more are gathered in Gods name, he is there. God oversaw my wedding.
She has a lovely voice and there are definitely some strong similarities but Karen just had such a smooth velvety warm undertone that can't be matched IMO.
I had the absolute pleasure (and honour) of seeing, hearing and feeling Karen sing a couple of times in my life, including less than 15 feet from me. Priceless memories.
You do know that Karen never sang this song, right? Can’t compare, she had already died. Of course Tori has a different voice. She’s a different person. Voices are like fingerprints, no two are alike. But if you zoom out the fingers may bear a resemblance to each other. Bottom line, she has the vocal quality to do justice to the great music she loves, not too bad for a 20 year old, no? Forrest/Trees
That is insane! She sounds just like her! Wow!
I know right?! I had chicken skin the entire time!

Karen had the most beautiful tone! She was taken too soon but can you imagine her singing with the angels? It will be awesome to hear!❤
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Absolutely

Beautiful and sounds just like Karen Carpenter!❤
She does her own backup singers. Even does her own instruments on some. This girl is amazing.
Rest in peace sweetvKAREN.UR HOME NOW WITH JEUS.❤❤🙏🙏
Thanks!!!

Karen never sang this song. So there is no comparison only the homage to her spirit.
Beautiful, with phrasing (but nowhere close to the depth and tone) of Karen Carpenter. Very good artist/singer. Cheers from Oz.

Interesting where you are from as in April the Wizard came to meet Dorothy.
Hi Sarah!you have to react I HAVE YOU by Karen...you will make you cry.
Almost.
Almost, what? To Tori? She’s singing it. Karen never sang it, so no comparison. Dusty? No, different.
I don't know if she's alive but she's probably happy about how skinny she is now.
Close but clearly a different voice. Not up there with Karen.
