Apparently she still lives in the same council house. She simply doesn't do 'grand' like a footballer or model.
When she "climbed the ladder", going higher with note, without taking extra breaths, one could see she had incredible control. This was a "break out" moment for these talent shows
I can remember seeing Susan Boyle perform this on Tv live when it happened, makes me proud to be Scottish, I only lived 15 miles from where Susan lived.
It really annoys me when the judges comment on how surprising it is when an older, not as thin, not as attractive person can actually sing. Why is it such a surprise? Are pretty people the only ones who have talent? It's so insulting to the contestants. They actually had the audacity to tell Paul Potts (similar situation but male) that he was a "little lump of coal" that would become a diamond some day.
I saw Susan in concert in Louisville, KY. Sold out venue. She was amazing and her voice never faltered. I have all her albums.

i'll never forget this moment. very shortly after broadcast, EVERYONE was sharing this and it went viral globally! the numbers were incredible, i'd never sat refreshing a page the way i did for the next couple of days! lol she touched the world and reminded everyone JUST at the perfect moment. was humbling and empowering in the same breath. The whole idea with the talent shows is to find Susan Boyle. In a way the goal of this show was reached back then.
She has made many albums and was in a movie also…. She sang with Elaine Paige a well know musical theatre actress

I am so happy for Susan Boyle, a fine Scottish woman, with makeup artists, and fine cloths, Susan Boyle looks great, and her success is world wide.

There are some very early videos of her singing, at small local venues, that show us what we lost in the decades when she remained unknown and unappreciated.
I never tire of watching this, and I've seen it many time over the years. Susan went on to have a successful recording year, becoming a millionaire, but she remained in her modest home in her little village and never let the fame or money go to her head. You should check out the video where, on AGT, she actually got to sing a duet with her idol Elaine Paige.

Along with Susan's vocal carrier success her performance had a huge impact on the Les Miserables Play, and what happened afterwards.
The song is from the musical stage play "Les Miserables" which was reaching the end of its multi-year performance run and plans were to shut the production down at the end of the current season in a few months when Susan Boyle appeared on BGT.
Susan's performance was so impactful that crowds surged to watch the play and production continued on for a number of years.
Then as her version of the song went international people outside of England were interested which led to the decision to make the play into a very successful movie which was released internationally (which I saw).
The writers and owners of the Les Miserables play and the author of the "I dreamed a dream" song had nothing but praise for Susan Boyle and her performance immediately after BGT aired the segment; and have continued to heap praise on her since then because of how much it impacted the continuation and popularity of the play and the creation of the movie.
Susan Boyle was literally the advertising that money could not have purchased.
Red rock video...I have watched you alot and seem to be looking at country western music....well as a person who grew up idolizing rodeo there is no better story than lane frost vs red rock.....as someone who lived through watching the battles it was riveting...I never had enough talent to really compete, but lane frost was something special

Anyone who makes it on stage has to audition first. It always cracks me up when the judges look surprised, because they heard them audition for the show.
One of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The audience was laughing in her face during the interview... and then she started to sing. Within thirty seconds, she had a third of the audience on their feet applauding. That performance was nothing short of Presleyian.

Actually .. this wasn't Susan Boyle's first appearance on a TV Talent Show.
She was on Michael Barrymore's show My Kind Of People over 10 years before this
and probably wasn't 'discovered' then because Michael chose to fool around while she was trying to sing.

She would have won, but Simon Cowell and the show producers put so much pressure on her,that she broke down,the press was having a field day,and SC was changing her image during the show,they should have waited, like they did with Paul potts, the 1st winner of BGT.

Susan went on to stardom and had great success, and her dream I believe was realized. She said her mom wanted her to do great things with her singing talent and she did proving it's never too late and never give up on your dreams and hopes!! Thank you for a great reaction video!!
*Susan goes on to be super successful.....but more importantly she is what broke the mold of the stereotype of what singers are suppose to be. It also made Simon realize talent is everywhere and that's why all sorts of shows appeared, like The Voice. Its no longer how you look but the talent you have*

She is definitely an unusual. She was living in a small house in her village and bought a larger one. She ended up staying where she was and used the larger new house to display her awards. She never won the "got talent" shows. She came in second after some dance troop (I think). This apparently upset her. Simon went on to be her representative at least for awhile and pushed her to make her own decisions
It was a travesty that she lost. I think people punished her for the immediate fame she achieved with this audition. However, she had the last laugh. A great career and wealth to keep her comfortable for the rest of her life. Her voice is even more amazing than what she did here and I have several of her albums that prove it. Wonderful Susan Boyle.

The two young guys waiting in the wings had heard her sing and knew how good she was. She obviously passed all the many auditions. They dressed her and made her up horribly to make people think that she wasn't very professional and she didn't know what she was doing. So it was kind of a set up in a way.
One thing to remember this was the first time that this kind of thing happened it really woke the UK up to how we judge people, also sparked the world to do these kind of shows.
