This was one of the greatest auditions, ever!
What I absolutely love is the small smile she gives the second before she starts to sing. She knows what they think and she's about to blow them out of the water. Just love this lady

The real life Cinderella story. I LOVED how she made them all sit up and look like the snobby fools they acted like in her introduction. I cry every time. Her true beauty shone through from the first note!
Susan SHOULD have won. She is an amazing singer. And by all accounts, a lovely human being. Susan was referred to as ‘simple Susan’ in her village, and is on the autism spectrum (according to interviews I’ve read and watched). After all her success and fame, she still lives in the same home she lived in before (although she did have some lovely remodeling done), and I’ve read many accounts by people who have served her in restaurants or just crossed paths with her who say that she is a sweetest, most down to earth person possible. ❤️
Travis, you must listen to more of Susan's singing.. This video was about 10 yrs ago.. She has flourished into a magnificent singer...I simply love her
I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "should have won". Diversity were (still are) absolutely amazing & completely unlike anything the UK public had seen at the time. That's why I voted for them in the show.
Not taking anything away from Susan & her talent though. She is to this day one of the best vocalists BGT's ever had. But as I said Diversity were just different from what we were used to.

@@stephaniebattison2334 I think that`s one of the problems with this kind of show, trying to choose a winner in a competition between singers and mimes and dance troupes , it`s such a ridiculous thing.
The day i saw her sing this song, i was overwhelmed with emotion for Susan. What a mesmerising voice and she sings that song with such passion. It's hard not to be swept away by it. Beautiful, simply beautiful. ❤❤❤
Susan Boyle. She just grabs your, heart and soul with this song. The first time I heard her sing it I cried the whole time. The silly thing is I still do.

Susan is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of why nobody should “judge a book by its cover”. I believe nobody has the right to judge anyone anyway. People always have their own stories and we never know what it is.
She came in second but it's ok. She has given concerts throughout the world and made millions. More important: she remained humble, sweet, and real.
Didn't she come in second to a group of street or break dancers or something like that? Well, that just shows how forgettable they were and Susan remains loveable and true.

And years later we are still in awe.

I live in West Lothian near Edinburgh and see Susan regularly! She lives in Blackburn which is 20 minutes away. She goes shopping in the shopping centre (mall) here and doesn’t act like a star at all! I’ve spoken to her a couple of times in the passing and she’s truly lovely, we are all down to earth in Scotland 🏴 😂👌🏼💯
She is the absolute example of not judging a book by its cover along with Charlotte and Jonathan.

By far, she and Jonathan Antoine are my favorite auditions ever. I have seen these auditions countless times, and I still cry every time, as if I am watching it for the first time. In my opinion, Susan Boyle is a better singer than Elaine Page. I heard them singing together once, and Susan's voice is simply angelic.
The first time I heard this I cried like a baby because her voice is so pure and so beautiful. Now after the gajillionth time listening I still cty like a baby because her voice is so pure and so beautiful.
This performance always brings me to tears. Susan is a sweet, gentle lady who has had to overcome many obstacles in her life. She deserved all the success that followed after this.❤️
She blew everyone away with this audition. In her lead up interview she says that she'd never sang to anyone but her cat, but always dreamed of being a singer. Just goes to show, you don't know what will happen unless you take a leap of faith. I think there are millions of us who are very thankful she did. To know that she may have never shared her voice with us is sad. Unfortunately she had a very difficult time adjusting to all of the attention and had to reign things in. But she still got to experience her dream and has recorded some absolutely beautiful music.
Well she had sung in front of people before tho. She worked as a cruise ship singer when she was younger.

She also never said she only sang in front of her cat. She said, she lives alone with her cat.
She's also a regular church choir singer..
I think she'd sing occasionally at a local pub too.

I watch her often, too. Now with reactions such as these, even more emotionally fulfilling, seeing someone experience her for the first time 💛
She did go on to have a successful career. She even sang with her hero Ms. Page (sp) She took care of her ailing Mother for years. Her story is the ultimate success story. 😊❤

When Susan came to the US for the AGT champions, Howie Mandel spoke about how they were looking for the Susan Boyle moment. How someone that no one could believe that they were anything, and then they blow the roof off.
She came in 2nd. She did get to sing with Elaine Paige, her idol.
I was yelling at my screen "DON'T TAKE A DRINK! DAMN. You took a drink." Great reaction. Your facial expression was the same as mine first time I heard her. Btw, your hair looks AMAZING.

Susan Boyle is an amazing story. She's a very talented singer and her life is a fascinating journey. You should read her history. It's the saddest happy ending you'll ever hear.
I almost died when you spit up your coffee or tea when Susan started to sing! I think we have all had that reaction. I have her first album and she seems a lovely person. Glad u checked her out Travis! 🎼
I still remember watching this and thinking ' oh here we go, another one who thinks they can sing' and as soon as she opened her mouth I was blown away! Susan is and always will be the ultimate contestant on BGT. Even if Diversity scooped the show Susan will always be known as the TRUE winner 🏆

Yes. The producers purposely put about 3 duds who were a bit quirky before Susan, so as to trick us all and get us used to bad acts.

The thing with Susan that actually impressed me the most wasn't how clean her sound was, it was the FACT she ROSE to the crowd and made it look easy.
So many singers get drowned out when the crowd volume goes large. She exceeded them even in the wild throes of passionate response. Professional on another Level.
That to me was her greatest strength for these shows. I cry every time I watch this audition.

I remember watching this one as a kid and oh my god did everyone pre judge Susan only to eat our words the moment she sang. Piers was right when he said ‘no one is laughing now’
I’m not a big music guy or really into these talent shows, but I’m a sucker for Susan Boyle. I’ve never been able to not click on a video with her audition. Her voice is out of this world.
Susan knew she would rock the audience, she stated so in the interview prior to going on stage, then just prior to singing she gave a little smile that indicated the judges and audience were in for a big surprise. She is now worth 60,000 compared to Elaine Page at 40,000. Susan is the classical professional act of our time.

You got it completely right Travis when you said ‘don’t judge a book by the cover’! Watched this live, 13 years ago, the press/public reaction was phenomenal. Susan was brought up believing she had learning difficulties, a few years after this programme she was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. She is now a very wealthy lady but continues to live an incredibly humble life. Please do check out Wild Horses.

I just broke into tears, the way I did the first time. They all looked so rude and skeptical, then they were standing for her.

When and if you watch any of the Got Talent show's it is literally called the Boyle effect, the shock of something completely unexpected they are looking for. She was the 1st female artist, in 2010, to have #1 albums simultaneously on the US and UK charts and have 3 successive albums DEBUT at #1 on the UK charts (2011) in less than 2 years. No other female artist has done that in the 65 years of the UK charts. That's how she rolled after this show LOL. "Wild Horses" is probably my fav of hers.

she has asbergers syndrom, lived her whole life looking after her parents until they passed...after this she came in 2nd but released several albums that did really well...watch her version of wild horses to see her after turning pro....for those who do not know, this song is from the musical Les Misserable.

On a more serious note, though - this puts all of us face to face with our judgment of people based on their appearance and Susan wins over all of us each and every time. I've seen this more times than I remember and I cry every time because I truly believe that we all have a talent that wants to be expressed and to me it's a good day when the world becomes aware of even one person's talent in celebration. This is the dream, isn't it?! It's not to have all the material stuff, it's to express our natural talent and passion and have it move others closer to believing in their own dreams.

I remember the day after the morning radio show was talking about a woman with a golden voice on BGT. Later in the day I watched the clip. Perfect voice perfect song she crushed it.

Susan came in second but I'm not sure anyone remembers the person who won. They remember Susan. She's sold over 25 million albums. Her first album released in November of that year sold over 4 million in just a few weeks. She's not unknow in the USA. 3 million of that first 4 million were sold in the USA. She went from a totally unknown to a major super star over night. From an unemployed person to one worth over $50 million now. And she deserves it.

A few months before their First audition Jonathan Antoine had been bullied so badly about his weight he quit school and was suicidal. Loved her personality this first time. She was a little Tiger. Awesome. An unbelievable voice. She is a wonderful human being.
Travis, she looked after her aging parents and sang in the local church choir. Only after her Mother died [last parent standing so to speak] did she do what she wanted. She had devoted all her life to caring for them after they cared for her because she is on the Autistic Spectrum. She has Gold and Platinum albums, still lives in the same [renovated] house in the Village, and is a lovely woman by all accounts. She is quite shy and the ridiculous stage act before singing was her trying to brave it out.
She is totally remarkable! Surprise aren’t you?!

Please do “Wild Horses” from her album. The AGT version is shorter. Also, “Cry Me a River”. Both are on her first album. Love your reaction. I felt exactly the same the first time I watched this. Still get goosebumps from it.

I love Susan Boyle! She has gone on to perform and stun audiences around the world...she is fabulous!
She did not win. A street dance troupe called Diversity won. She looked so relieved. By the time it got to the end, she was quite frazzled with all of the attention. She has released 8 albums in the past 11 years and has been on tour in many countries. Rumor has it she is worth around $40 million.
The stress of it all caused a mild breakdown and she had to be hospitalized. My God, she had never in her life been through such a ringer. It's amazing she made it to the end at all with her Aspergers that no one realized at the time. She's one tough lady to have weathered that show as well as she did. Mad props to her!

In my mind she did win. She didn’t even have to finish the show she became that famous over night. It’s ironic because the song lyrics “I had a dream life could be, so different from this Hell I’m living.” She got so famous it took its toll on her. I have and will always be a fan.
