What was really weird was the taxi coming to pick us up broke down, so we had to call another.

I remember some time back in the early 70s hearing Lucky man on the radio. Greg Lakes voice is so rich kinda makes my ears smile, same with Jim Morrison. Don't think we will ever see a generation such as then.
Morrison couldn't touch Greg Lake, vocally!! Jim Morrison was not a musician. AND I'm a huge "DOORS " fan. Morrison was a poet and lyricist who developed a decent singing voice . If you read "ARTHUR RIMBAUD" (A Season in Hell / Illuminations), you'll come across many similarities to Morrison's on-stage behavior as well as some quotes. Nietzsche too, of course... but his behavior mimicks some of what Rimbaud wrote. In his youth, Rimbaud was WILD! Rimbaud was finished writing by 19 or 20. If he'd continued living a wild lifestyle... he would've been dead long before age 37; that's why he quit. Though Morrison died of a heroin overdose, it's doubtful he would've survived more than another year. The alcohol was killing him. He was coughing/spitting blood toward during his last weeksin Paris. When the liver starts failing the alcohol causes esophageal varices, which leads to spiiting blood while coughing. Means Jim probably had cirrhosis of the liver. Liver couldn't process alcohol quickly enough so that combined with stomach and liver chemicals start eating at esophagus; ulcers will develop; and veins will expand due to high blood pressure. Jim was on his way out.
What an amazing performance by one of the great voices in R&R history. G. Lake simply blows up our minds with this presentation. This is what human kind is supposed to be. Thanks to these recordings future generations can witness about the wonderful music made in the past. An unadulterated gift to the lucky audience with pure soul and heart by this man. RIP.
No digital bs pitch correction, no tone shifters, nothing but Greg's incredible voice, his guitar playing, a mic, and a little reverb. So pure, And what precise guitar work on a 12 string which is hard enough to play then he is doing extreme chord changes. Underrated musical genius. Wish he was still performing today in 2020.
I still can’t get over how underrated Greg Lake was. Bass, guitar, singing, SONGWRITING... all top notch. Is there anything this guy couldn’t do at a high level?
This bloody word almost always comes from people with less musical knowledges. Lake was part of a band which sold millions of albums. How could he be underrated.
@@lesterpaul9657 first of all, I’ve been a musician playing guitar and bass for 17 years. I consider myself pretty well-versed in wide varieties of music. I mean underrated in the sense that he’s not generally name-dropped enough in certain circles. Many people from my generation are not aware of his skill and talents. In prog, of course ELP is on Mt. Rushmore. But to the general populace Greg is not referenced as much as say, Chris Squire or Geddy Lee. It’s an anecdotal observation, but it’s been my experience.
@@nightshift8249 I totally get what you mean. ELP is part of the trifecta of prog rock giants, the other being Yes and (my all time favorite of any music period) Pink Floyd. However, you don't generally hear people discussing mainstream classic rock bring up ELP nearly as much as you will with the other two, especially the mighty Floyd.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns~I understand perfectly what you mean. The aforementioned musicians took us to a level that so many others could not; perhaps they were just ahead of their time. That's not to say that other musicians were mediocre, so much of our generations music was incredible, top notch, in fact. But there were those few, magnificent genius's who could touch a certain chord and make a soul resonate.
@@gcharocks a couple of yours ago I read that they were huge especially, since their Isle of Wight performance. They have several gold albums to prove it. I know it wasn't to everyone's taste, though especially women's, as a woman I love their music even though prog-rock wasn't my favourite genre. The writer told the story of a young man going to school with one of their albums wrapped in his arms and classmates would say, " Now this guy has his s*** together."
It’s just what the man did, so yeah he’s quite comfy. I’m sure you’re good at and comfortable with whatever it is you get up and do every day. The difference is what you do most likely doesn’t make the girls wanna be with ya and the guys wanna be ya. 😂 I’m in the same boat. 😆
I never seen this untill last month and so impressed, he doesn't even look at his hand's when playing, what a god giving talent ,,His voice is clear and resonates threw the atmosphere
My deepest gratitude to the film and sound crew who documented this masterpiece. Future generations can see what is possible without autotune and backtracks....in front of a quarter million people.
The Karen Carpenter of men. No one has ever come close to matching the quality of that voice and he was so freekin cool chewing that gum and singing like a God. I hope I get to hear him as he was in the afterlife
I'm soooo jealous - I would have loved to seem ELP in person - esp Greg Lake doing this song I c an remember the first time I heard it in 1973 (amid the smoke)
He was so beautiful. My brother brought the album this song is on home from university and I would sit with headphones on listening to Still You Turn Me On. A little bit of heaven to a young girl of 17 back in 1972. I still love this song and the perfection of Greg Lake's music. ❤
I'm with you there also!!!! I'm listening to it with my ear pods on or whatever they call these little things in my ears lol!!!! I'm 58 and I remember the big ole headphones with the jack wire plugging into the 8 Trac console lol!!!
Hi Cornflower Blue... I never realized how popular this song was and is. I would lay on the carpet next to the big ole 70s turn table and stereo... and listen to this album for hours. Nobody in my family knew anything about muzik but me. When I 1st heard "Still You Turn Me On"... I wondered why I never heard it only radio. This should've been a top 10 hit. "GREG LAKE" playing this solo on acoustic makes it sound like a full band - no f/X, no gimmicks... just a man and his guitar. PHENOMENAL!! RIP.😮
I keep coming back to this over and over... One of the most incredible things ever! If ever there was an example of master musicality in time and space, there it is .. one of the most incredible live performances ever. Precious
Really not sure why. Just emotional I guess. I was at California Jam and witnessed this. ELP was one of my all time favorites. Then I scroll through comments and see your name. My brothers name. He’s been gone for three years now. I miss him.
Greg's voice and powerful Spirit was too much for some. This is the kind of music that gets to the very core of your emotions. I saw them in 1974 at the Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, CA. The sound in that place was incredible. RIP Greg✌🕊❤
Greg Lake's voice is unique and very natural. Greg hits all the notes effortlessly and he sings songs that are deep expressions and not easy to sing. He was never off key, a gifted talent from birth!
The first time I ever saw someone singing & chewing gum at the same time - this video of Greg Lake - fricken amazing!!!!!! My heart is crushed right now by the passing of Greg Lake - I was there and still here from the beginning......
John Lennon chewed gum alot.. Keeps your throat an mouth wet .. For singing.. not to mention Lennon was nervous as hell.. mouth got dry....................gum helped............
One of the sexiest songs ever written and performed. You see and feel the vibrancy of life and youth and the life surging through him...he's gone. This time is gone. Everything that happened is gone...except for the ever fading reverberation of invisible strings in space. It was all a miracle and we didn't know what we were experiencing. There's a creator that loves us very much and would very much like for us all to finally get it.
"You see I really have to tell you that it all gets so intense..." Indeed! Vocal perfection; musical genius married to lyric majesty. Poetry elevated to magical/mystical status. Epic. Timeless. Masterpiece.
I’m 71 and was lucky to grow up in the Tampa Bay Area where every great band performed in the 70’s. I saw ELP 4 times in the early 70’s and they to this day are one of my all time favorite bands to have seen on stage. So talented each of them. rest In Peace Keith and Greg, the world is a lesser place without you.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is the last song my brother ever played (my bro by love and friendship, not blood) of 35 years. He posted this song just before he died. He was found on his easy chair, with the music on. God, I miss him. We bid him farewell this Thursday at 1:30pm. We love you, John Coolidge!! You will be missed ... forever! I love you, bro! Rest in Peace ...
It's hard to describe the feeling when I listen to Greg sing this song. Partly because it brings me back to memories of the past but it definitely feels like I've gone to a magical place. 🌼
I have gone back to my 70's self and still get goosebumps and the pounding heart when I listen to him So beautiful inside and out. You never know what you've got til it's gone. C"est la vie
I'm 67. My older brother passed away a few years ago. He would be 72 now. He had all the ELP albums and 8 tracks. I have them now. Every so often I'll carefully put on an album on a classic Marantz turntable. The old Klipsch 901's still sound great. A little ELP and maybe some Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn to close out with.... thanks for a wonderful recording!
Greg Lake was a totally gorgeous man, no 2 way's about it, had the voice of an angel and was a talented songwriter and musician. He was the heart and soul of King Crimson and Emerson Lake and Palmer, at least as far as I'm concerned. I could listen to him and this song forever, its so beautiful. The fact that it's on a 12 string guitar and he's chewing gum while singing is amazing to me, not to mention that he's doing it in front of thousands and thousands of people. He made it all look so easy. All our wonderful musicians are leaving us. But now they are playing and singing in God Choir and Band and you all know it's beautiful. I can't wait to hear it when I get there. Rest in Peace Greg and Keith!
@Becky Hernandez I agree, a gorgeous man with the most beautiful eyes, and lips that looked like they'd be wonderful to kiss! A beautiful soul, and you said it, the voice of an angel. Talented beyond belief, he wrote the melody and lyrics to Lucky Man at the age of 12 (!!), shortly after getting his first guitar. I am so grateful to have grown up in the 70s when you could hear *real* music like this when it was released, brand new. ELP's music and musicianship is far superior to today's "music." It's incredibly sad that so many talented musicians have left this earth, but we can be very thankful they've left us their amazing musical legacy to enjoy forever.
I had never seen this video - it's the most amazing acoustic solo I've ever seen. He was a beautiful person with such immense talent. How blessed we are to have this music to remember. Rest with God, Greg.
Incredible singing and playing on a 12-string guitar while chewing gum and making it look easy. Can't think of enough superlatives how great this is. How great Greg Lake was. RIP to a true talent and musical genius.

He's playing a twelve string, chewing gum, singing, and you can see his breath it's so cold out! Now that's a legend.
* Yes Sir... > i picked up on all those too ~ *ESPECIALLY HIS CALM, SELF ASURED PRESENCE... FAVE ! ;)
Yep, he could play a guitar (and sing) and chew gum at the same time ;-)
Yes indeed.
He's chewing gum because Hendrix did...it is hard to do...I do it also...
Amazing
It doesn’t get any better than this.......RIP Greg......
TRISTESSE
He also happens to sing one of the best Christmas songs ever. Yet it wasn't intended to be a Christmas hit
that's right! no keyboard noise, no drummin' noise, just pure goodness!!
But still, you turn me on......

Wish he was still performing today in 2020.
you got it!
John you hit the nail on the head
and some GUM!
Maybe I am mistaken but in this. Performance, which is fantastic, this is a six string.
A total genius, yes, I thought that back in the day when I was a young dude that didn't know nothin'.
True music acoustic is beyond human.Yes you still turn me on Greg
Quite possibly the best acoustic rock song ever. Tremendous lyrics, vocals, and guitar chording. I could listen to this every day. RIP
Perfectly said it is the greatest acoustic rock song ever
No doubt about it
Listened to "Still...You Turn Me On" four times tonight while drinking two big glasses of wine. Life is good!
Brilliant performance!!! ..by one of my favorite artists
The purity in the vocals is amazing.
His finger work is impeccable. A songwriting genius, live at work.

I still can’t get over how underrated Greg Lake was. Bass, guitar, singing, SONGWRITING... all top notch. Is there anything this guy couldn’t do at a high level?
He was never ever underatted. Stop using that word!
Watching this makes me cry. But not because of the beautiful Melody, but because is a painful reminder of how decadent and shallow music has become.
Popular music has always been shit. You think this was popular in the 70s? Hell no.
@@gcharocks I listened to them in the 70's
Very true,
I suppose it must be because of the "business"...
I’m finally able to start watching him perform again almost 4 years after his death. Gone too soon....
Man what a voice, and it comes out so effortlessly , and while chewing gum. Greg was on another level ..
It just blows me away how comfortable he is when performing this. I can't imagine.
BigGhimself :: That’s What U get when you’re in YOUR ELEMENT, right there man-RIGHT THERE! 😍👍🙏🌞
It’s just what the man did, so yeah he’s quite comfy. I’m sure you’re good at and comfortable with whatever it is you get up and do every day. The difference is what you do most likely doesn’t make the girls wanna be with ya and the guys wanna be ya. 😂
I’m in the same boat. 😆

Wow! 🥀♥️What an artist.....mind blowing, heart winning! Greg Lake

He looks like a baby here, how is it possible he sings like no one else, like a man that has seen much more life than his face shows? Perfection.

Always impressed by Greg Lake’s tone and immaculate pitching.

Greg Lake was one of the best male singer ever, no doubt at all. Definitely he was.
I never seen this untill last month and so impressed, he doesn't even look at his hand's when playing, what a god giving talent ,,His voice is clear and resonates threw the atmosphere
Great voice, I agree one of the best.
ELP was greatly overlooked
A good singer give you chicken skin.
Up there with Jeff Buckley
The force behind his voice and the clarity and pitch perfect delivery is a cut above. Damn son
I am beyond grateful to have found this video. Magical indeed.
My deepest gratitude to the film and sound crew who documented this masterpiece. Future generations can see what is possible without autotune and backtracks....in front of a quarter million people.
I still think this is the best version of this song.
Agree!
Whilst chewing gum!
I agree!
I prefer the studio version off of Brain Salad Surgery. This is missing the electric guitar with a Wawa and also missing the harpsichord
Hot
The Karen Carpenter of men. No one has ever come close to matching the quality of that voice and he was so freekin cool chewing that gum and singing like a God. I hope I get to hear him as he was in the afterlife

I'm soooo jealous - I would have loved to seem ELP in person - esp Greg Lake doing this song I c an remember the first time I heard it in 1973 (amid the smoke)
God Bless Greg and the music he left us....golden voice forever in heaven and earth as well. Legend will live on forever!
Wow you are so lucky. Greg was and will always be a shining star.
How i'd love to go back in time to see these special moments again!
RIP.😮

Really not sure why. Just emotional I guess. I was at California Jam and witnessed this. ELP was one of my all time favorites. Then I scroll through comments and see your name. My brothers name. He’s been gone for three years now. I miss him.
Exactly....that was a very hard piece of music to play and he made it look easy, just amazing.
This video proves two things:
1. Greg Lake was a musical genius
2. 451 people who disliked this don't understand that
To not like this is to not like pizza
Forget 'em.
Allan Parsons made a song for such low road travelers... it's called
" I wouldn't want to be like you"
And he did it chewing bubble gum...R.I.P. Rock God.
The first time I ever saw someone singing & chewing gum at the same time - this video of Greg Lake - fricken amazing!!!!!! My heart is crushed right now by the passing of Greg Lake - I was there and still here from the beginning......
James Vasquez I remember reading he did that to keep moisture in his throat while singing.
Cyn Thia I think it helps moisten the throat. During this series of concerts I believe Greg came down with throat problems laryngitis

Every so often I'll carefully put on an album on a classic Marantz turntable. The old Klipsch 901's still sound great. A little ELP and maybe some Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn to close out with.... thanks for a wonderful recording!
I'm very sorry about your older brother! May he RIP with Greg Lake!!

But, he’s never been underrated, my friend. ELP, one of the premier bands of the ‘70s.
