    Which would you recommend for home use/basic auscultation - Littmann Lightweight II SE or Adscope Lite 619 Ultra-lite Clinician Stethoscope? I was instructed to monitor my mom's breathing. Thank you so much.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  3 года назад +1

      I haven’t tried the Adscope Lite 619 but it looks similar to the Lightweight II S.E I think you would be fine with either of those stethoscopes for use at home 😊 I really liked the II S.E for the price and comparative great acoustics (also taking into consideration that it’s made out of plastic).

      @@NurseJenny thank you! That was fast. 🙂 I already checked out the II SE on my cart. I just hope it will last a bit longer than its 2yr warranty considering that it's made out of plastic.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  3 года назад +2

      If you look after it well, I’m sure it will last you longer! Don’t keep it in extreme hot or cold conditions, that can affect the tubing.

    I have the classic III and my aunt has the classic II. Which one do you think has better sound quality? I want to get the classic II because I think it’s made better, (the material on the chest piece). The classic II has an extra outer layer and the classic III doesn’t. This makes me want to get the classic II, And my aunt and I compared our stethoscopes and the chest piece on hers is a tiny bit bigger. I want the classic II even though I have the classic III. I have enough money for it. Do you think I should get it? It will feel weird owning two stethoscopes instead of just one.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  3 года назад +1

      I don’t actually have a classic II so I’m not sure about the extra layer on the chest piece but I did look it up on their website. You’re right, the chest piece is marginally bigger on the Classic II and it is also lighter (135grams compared to 150grams for the Classic III). The Classic III however, can convert the open bell to a pediatric side diaphragm which the Classic II does not. As far as acoustics go, I think they would be quite similar but again, I can’t tell for sure as I haven’t tried it myself! 🙂

      @@NurseJenny thank you! I actually got the classic II and compared them! The sound quality is similar, but I think the classic III has better sound quality! The classic III is made way better! The classic II feels cheaper! I still like my classic III the best!

    I am also working to become an EMT, I am not too concerned about it possibly breaking too much, I am just a bit worried about the Acoustics. It is advertised for being good at measuring blood pressure, can you tell me if I will be able to hear basic breathing sounds and differentiate between physiological and pathological sound patterns? Keep in mind, I won't be a doctor or anything like that, so I will only need to basic abilities for auscultation of the lung and maybe the heart.

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Chrissy The Conqueror! I really rate the acoustics of this stethoscope! I think it would be a good fit for you 👍 you will most definitely be able to take manual blood pressures, auscultate lung/breath sounds and basic heart sounds. Good luck in your EMT studies 💖

      I am not a medical doctor nor have I worked in the medical field (my Ph. D. is actually in accountancy, nowadays students would get an Acc. D. instead) but I actually just received mine today, it works well enough for manual blood pressure taking and detecting a heartbeat. IDK how it works today but when I took a US Red Cross advanced first aid class about 50 years ago it included learning how to take blood pressure, detecting a heartbeat, etc. I have a family member who has heart issues and since we questioned the readings on the electronic blood pressure kit and I know how to take manual blood pressure I bought a manual blood pressure kit but the stethoscope that came with it was horrible (I looked that one up, the cheap kit stethoscope was available separately for $3 on FleaBay so what did I expect, the whole kit was about $20 on Amazon US -- the cuff and measuring device were fine and just the stethoscope was bad) so I bought this Littman model off of Amazon US as that is the brand (although probably not the exact model) my physician uses daily. This Littman seems to work fine.

    Can you still use this stethoscope for pediatrics even though its not used for it?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  3 года назад +1

      I mean technically you could. The diaphragm might just be a bit too big for the littlest ones. But it would certainly work. A good one to maybe try out to start with seeing as it is quite cheap, but good! 👍

      Oh yeah for sure, it’s definitely more pleasing on the eye. It’s more expensive than the Lightweight II S.E but made of stainless steel so it would last you longer and quality-wise it’s a step up. Just depends on what you’re after for the moment and how much you want to spend.

    What would you recommend for a emt/firefighter

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  5 лет назад +3

      Meranda Barnes I’m thinking you need something sturdy, something that doesn’t break easily so stainless steel would probably be the way to go. I’m also guessing you don’t want something too heavy or big as you have other equipment that you need to bring with you.
      Also depends on the money you want to spend.
      Essentially, Littmann Cardiology IV is a great stethoscope, dual lumen tubing, awesome acoustics. It is pricey however and a little bit cumbersome.
      The Littmann Classic III is cheaper, easier to store/lighter and almost (almost!) as good acoustics as the Cardiology IV.
      Adscope has also got some great stainless steel stethoscopes, around the same price tag as the Littmann Classic III with the choice of some nice tubing patterns.
      I hope that helps Meranda. Let me know if you have any other questions!
      Jenny

      Nurse Jenny ok and have you tried the mdf md one stethoscope??
      Little scared about carrying a littmann in the field because of it getting stolen.

    • @NurseJenny

      Meranda Barnes I have actually! I have done a review of the cheetah print MDF MD One (I think I called it MDF 777 cheetah print). And I’ve also tried the rose gold one. Yep, a really good alternative for sure, similar acoustics, a bit cheaper. I found the tubing a little stiff and it’s heavier than a Littmann Classic III. But if you’re looking for something a bit cheaper but with great acoustics, the MDF MD One is a great alternative 👍👍

    Is it worth buying for obstetricians

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  2 года назад

      To use for little babies? I don’t have any experience myself working in obstetrics and with little babies but I don’t think I’d recommend the lightweight. The smaller side chest piece can only be an open bell and not
      Convert into a diaphragm. As such, you would only have the adult diaphragm to work with.
