  • broooooooooooo, why do some men think it's okay to be creepy.
    Dear Creeps,
Seriously, go trip in a ditch.
    Sincerely,
    Everyone
I literally use 20 minutes of your life complaining about the creeps I've encountered here in Korea while I do my makeup terribly. Enjoy

some tips to avoid creepy men in South Korea:
    - buy a fancy ring and keep it on your ring finger if someone asks for your marriage/relationship status
    - there are safe spots all over that are built for women if they feel unsafe. you can call the police or just wait until you feel safe. men that see you enter these rooms will most likely leave you alone, because predators don't like dealing with women who will fight back. (I don't recall how they look exactly, but they should be noticeable)
    - if you think you're being followed, DON'T go to an isolated area, go where people are everywhere; it's harder to creep on women if they're around people who will most likely see what's going on.
    - stop worrying about being nice; creeps will use your kindness to their advantage. better safe, then sorry, right?
    - don't be afraid to call the police or make noise to bring attention to the situation. creeps don't like attention or trouble.

This has happened to me and my older sister about 3 years ago when we went to korea to visit my aunt and mom. We were on our way home after going out, when all of the sudden a group of korean guys (maybe 4?) Started following us. I was very scared since I was only like 17 years old. But my older sister wasnt even bothered by the situation because she lived in korea for 10 years. About 5 minutes later they kept following us and then my sister started to get red flags. We walked faster but one of then reached to us and repeatedly kept saying "please help I lost my dog" I was very alarmed at this point but I kept calm and was like "no sorry we dont have time" he kept on insisting even though my sister clearly said "No" to him. as my sister looked behind, the other 3 guys were walking to us AT A VERY ALARMING SPEED. Thats when we knew we had to get tf out of there so so started running so fast. I dont clearly remember who started running first, me or my sister. But all I know is that, we reached home very fast because of the running lol. BUT STAY SAFE IN KOREA YALL

She honestly wanted to help in some way but at that time depression was not recognized as a true illness and her not being fluent in the language made it impossible. I’m not sure how depression is treated today in Korea. The drinking culture is extreme and you were frowned upon and considered disrespectful if you didn’t join in. It’s such a work based culture...much longer than 8 hours a day so there was a certain sense of loneliness. She was an exchange student for a year and she had a perfect score before going to college there. Korea is a competitive society and rightly so because it’s a small country. So no matter how well you did in a class only a certain percentage would pass and foreigners were not considered top priority then. Also she took a class that was supposed to be in English but half way through the professor decided to just start teaching in a Korean since the majority of the class was Korean. Needless to say it dropped her grade point average. I could go on and on but I don’t think anyone wants to read this book.

They usually won't want to be filmed or accountable so hopefully they will leave you alone. Then you verify if they left and if not, call someone to accompany you, wait for you somewhere(not at your place but another place where you feel safe) and ask for a cab. The biggest mistake that most girls do when they're approached by male strangers is being nice. Once you're opening up by being nice, the person who's acting like a predator shall gain instant power over you. What you wanna do is to actually look annoyed, bothered, and pissed off right before they even utter a sound. Just give them the "what the F do you want" type of look, the "i'm gonna kick your ass just because you've bothered me" type of confident look.
And yes, wearing a wedding ring is a brilliant idea. Don't worry that you're gonna end up single, because a really cool guy who likes you for who you are, shall be interested in your friendship first.

I also live in Korea but for me it’s Korean men that are creepy. Like the second day I was here I was followed he by a group of three Korean men. At first they were walking in front of me and then they stopped and acted like they were going to go into a store but instead followed me all the way to my apartment building. Luckily you have to put a password in to enter my apartment building. Then literally yesterday on the subway during rush hour a Korean guy randomly grabbed my should and I got scared then I realized he was letting me have his seat. So I thanked him and sat down. His friend was sitting next to me and everything was fine until about 15 minutes later when the guy who gave me his seat asked his friend to switch with him. Now the guy that gave me his seat was sat next to me and he was sitting like man spreading and taking up all my space. Because of this our arms were touching even though I was sitting really close to the other person beside me. Then he started to rub his leg and his hand came off of his leg and into the gap between us and then the back if his hand literally rubbed against my thigh and I didn’t even know what to think. At first I was like “it was an accident.” But now I really don’t think it was.

And indeed it is what I'm trying to do with my own. Sadly, misogyny and patriarch views are ingrained in society as a whole, including in women's mindsets that help perpetuate these, or simply is what is expected, having known nothing else. It isn't about a 'boy band' at all, but when ppl lile them come around, talking abt self love, abt how to love others, about respect, showing, as men, affection and emotions, breaking stereotypes abt men in society, they make you wake up and say: "Hold the F up, no more". That's some of many reasons they get so much hate, especially from men and ppl who can't understand how they are attractive by lifting up others while breaking barriers and not conforming to societal standards and expectations. That's why we say they have raised the standard on men. Women and men in the fandom now know better.

I know it's not easy, but to any women experiencing foreigners act like this, at least try to call police and report them. Maybe it can lead to deportation. I don't mean it's your responsibility to do so, think of your own safety first, but it just makes me so upset. Both for selfish reasons like it makes people in korea doubt all foreign guys, but also because I'm raising my children here and I'm already worried for my daughter even though she is still just a young child.

For example, when guys are in a car and they're saying things to us I would just scream back, or if he's looking at me I would stare back, so he can see my disgusting look. I remember one time a drunk man started to say things to my friend and I at night, and we were alone, so I just talked to him nicely like we weren't in danger and he finally live. I’m a recovering addict (almost 2 years sober) and I contracted Hep C back in 2016. I knew it since feb 2017 and procrastinated doing anything about it until summer 2020. Now it’s gone but I have cirrhosis 😂 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🙄 I’m a huge procrastinator as well

Nowadays, I just give them my phone number to get them to leave me alone. At least I can block them later... Sad but I do what I have to do to survive (:

Found myself gritting my teeth at the situations you found yourself in. I'd have been feeling the same probably. Though your edits made me smile and break the tension. :)

I so get thay last story. I stopped at a local dollar tree in town to just look around, take my time and just shop, relax. And this guy goes "where can I find xyz?" And i go "what?" And he's all, "oh I thought you worked here". Smoothe Romeo. He follows up with a short story about his damn life and what he's doing there and then asks if I'm single. I'm not. F off. Then proceeds to ask me where something in the store was which I knew where it was, so being stupid I showed him. And then he basically kept kind of just following me around. He eventually got distracted and I went to check out praying he wouldn't come up to the registers. He didn't. So I paid and I ran to my car, jumped in and sped out of that parking lot so fast and sped down the street and called my boyfriend to tell him what happened. I'm sure he didn't mean any harm but I was not comfortable at all. He totally ruined my shopping trip and pissed me off.

So 3 things we learnt from this video: Do you speak English? Your answer should be...NO. do you have a bf? Your answer should be...YES. Also, we gotta build some condition, cuz I run for 1 min and I'm dead. Everything else aside, the way you describe the story feels as if I'm in it myself. You be handling these situations just great. If it were me I'd turn pale, get stressed and might even cry. Pathetic, right?
