  • Here is a video to replace the heater core on a Dodge Neon/SX 2.0L. My first repair video so bare with me please lol
    I do not take responsibilty if you attempt this on your own. The airbag assembly can be trick and scary at the same time. Please refer to your owners manual and repair manuals to follow the proper removal of this.

    Did this on my daughters car this weekend. Removed front seats for additional room. Needed to remove 2 screws in the defrost vent, 1 screw on each end of the dash to remove the top of the dash. Pulled off the end caps and the kick panels to access the 2 bolts on each end of the dash. Disconnected steering shaft bolt to allow it to disconnect (do not remove steering column). Removed two bolts and two nuts from top of dash. Removed AC connection from engine compartment). Removed four nuts from engine compartment side (overflow bottle must be removed to access one of the bolts). Pulled dash back and up watching for wires that need disconnected (only 2 plugs should need disconnected on the passenger side). Pull up on passenger side while another person pulls the airbox out under the dash. There are a LOT of screws in the airbox. If it doesn't open easily then one or more were missed. Whole process took us about 3.5hrs.

    Thank you for this well done video! it helped me a ton. A lot of the steps you did I felt were unnecessary though. non the less it is an amazing video. The entire job took me about 12 hours to complete. couldn't have done it without you!

    Thank you so much for making this video, I don't think I would have ever figured out about those three nuts that are on the other side of the firewall behind the engine and would probably be stumped right now, currently in the middle of replacing the heater core in a 2005 Dodge neon SXT

    Thank you for this Video, I cannot Thank YOU enough, I Learned from the Dodge Neon Manual where the heater core was, So I began my attack. I was able to remove only the passenger side and managed to keep my car driveable, So I was ready to give up and donate the entire car.
    I watched THIS video and gained my confidence to continue, after another 8 hours of work, I have a working Heater Core , a few Cosmetic pieces left to do , but my car is running again.
    THANK YOU !!!

    currently working on this. one small easy thing to help is taking out the front seats. it's 4 bolts for each seat but it creates a lot more room to move inside the car

    I think my Neon could use this treatment. One alternative is to buy an aftermarket auxiliary unit which would need to be plumbed and wired in, but which might still be worthwhile doing to avoid this crazy job!

      I'm in the middle of it right now... about to pull heater box out 2.5 hours in. it will go back together much faster. not terrible, just not fun.

      @@racerboy696969 Is it absolutely necessary to have the air conditioning Freon drained out in order to do this job? Or is there a work around?

    i have a 2004 dodge neon sxt and it needs a new heater core but thats a really big job all day,was told the dash board ned needs to be taken apart.

    kelly clayton if your cars been overheating it has nothing to do with the heater core ...as long as you have hot air blowing inside the cabine when you turn on your heater...if you do...that means you have circulation of the antifrezze over and back from the heater core...and its not clogged ,check all hoses for liquid ,pressure and temperature running on hoses as the car reach its temperature...check also for leaks along all hoses that runs the antifrezze( outgoing from the radiator ro block engine,from engine to heater core and incoming hoses and lines going back again to radiator...also check your thermostat,water pump for propper functioning ,or for leaks or clogged radiator...

    kind of thinking why you had to remove the shifting cable from the knob???

    very helpful video!!!! my car gets to temp and blows hot air but can begin blowing cold air then engine rises in temp. if I'm stopped and cold air is blowing I can rev engine to 2000 rpm... I get warm air and a cooler engine temp.

      You have an air pocket in your cooling system..needs to be "burped" so to speak..common problem..easy fix.

    at 18:37 on the duct, is that like a drain for whenever the heater core leaks so it can leak outside of the car rather than inside? isnt that where the hose thats hanging down by the condensor goes at 15:06. i have a neon thats over heating and i see the leaking coming from that hose i specified so im trying to make sure its the heater core thats failed before i start doing the job

    • @daddywillfixit
      @daddywillfixit  8 лет назад +1

      +Alex Zamora Yes that is correct that hose you se is for the drain, incase the core ever leaks on you. it would leak outside of the car. From the sounds of it, you have a faulty heater core :(

    Hello!! I was watching your video and was wondering if you could shed some light on actually was size heating core do I need to purchase for my 2004 Dodge Neon? My car has been over heating for months now. I was told that I would need to replace the heating hose. Any suggestions?

    • @daddywillfixit
      @daddywillfixit  9 лет назад +1

      Kelly Clayton the heater core is for getting heat into the cabin of the car. If the car is over heating it is most likely due to the thermostat being stuck closed. Is the antifreeze leaking out? is there a puddle on the ground under your car?

    • @mmmmmMuffinz
      @mmmmmMuffinz 9 лет назад

      CraZy HaYes Hey I'm having the same issue as Kelly is, I have a 2004 dodge neon and its overheating, theres smoke coming out of the A/C vents, and it smells. And yes there IS a puddle of coolant under my car. Do I need a new heater core or is it something else?

    • @daddywillfixit
      @daddywillfixit  9 лет назад +1

      yup thats the heater core leaking into your car. It does need to be replaced :(

    Good video and very helpful. However, you don't need to remove the plastic dash from the structural frame nor do you need to remove the air bag from it's compartment in the dash, just pull the whole dash as one unit. Also, I did not need to remove the AC condenser - just remove it's frame bolt, loosen lines going to the front of the engine compartment and push the condenser/lines aside a bit to access the nut behind it holding the HVAC. Accessing this nut is the hardest part of the job - use an elbow and a 10mm deep well socket. (Actually, getting the nut back on during reassembly was harder). I didn't remove the fuel rail but I did move the cruise servo hanging above the condenser. Here is a very helpful guide with photos: www.hpaircraft.com/neon/heater_core.htm.
