Jason, for sunny side eggs, have a lid for your pan, then add in a couple spoons of water, and steam them. You will not need to even flip them. They will be velvety soft!! Old diner hack.
If you had a lid you could always steam the eggs by putting little water in there and letting it turn to steam which is very effective of cooking the eggs if you have a lid
Easy fix. I'm full time and here's my list. Power steering pump bracket broke off, rear end went out. Throw out bearing went out. All fixed in campgrounds on national Forest and blm
I am a Sub of Casey's.. that's how I found you last year. You are right.. Casey does do some amazing things by helping others. One of many reasons I follow him
Had a 96 e250 same thing happened to me tensioner pulley bolt snapped off. Made it to AutoZone. Used my shoe lace to measure belt length while bypassing tensioner pulley. Found one a little bit big so I took some friction tape (batters tape ) i had. (electrician) i wrapped layers around the idler pulley to make it bigger ran it like that for around a year had to add and or replace tape when it started squeaking. After a few times I could do it blindfolded
It’s the first time I’ve come across your channel. Really appreciate your calm, organized and peaceful manner. I can certainly learn from that. I’m super organized, driven, high energy and successful, but I need to continue to learn how to enjoy each moment and live a more calm, peaceful life. I’ll subscribe and check out more of your content. Nice work!
Welcome, Lex! Glad you have found a connection with Jason too! I have been a long-time subscriber. At one point, I decided to go back and watch every one of his videos from the beginning. I have loved basically following his life story. In his early videos, Jason was a strong buckaroo, doing trail runs and tree pull-ups to stay in shape for hunting, plus some intense hikes! Old name of the channel was "Primal Archer". I think you might be able to see my public playlist "The Beautiful Outdoors", which features the best of Jason's older videos that included "cinematic" scenery. Figured I would mention, since there are countless hours of video to watch otherwise. Take care, man!
Jupiter Florida has free parking along the ocean and the beautifullest blue water you have ever seen the ocean is warm and there are showers and pet friendly
I have a bug out camp in the middle of nowhere, and I am always so surprised when I come back to it, and people have been to it-- and added to it, or improved it some how.
Casey is the man. So, it turned out to be a pretty fine trip anyway. A nice couple of days in the mountains, and you got to meet up with an old friend.
I had the exact same failure in my 96 E250 Sportsmobile. I had just gotten the engine replaced and replaced the tensioner too. Ford covered it but made me buy the bracket which turned out not to be needed because the broken bolt came out easily. I now carry the old bracket and tensioner in the van as a spare since it is a failure that pretty much immobilizes the van.
I used to be an autoparts guy. I would just change out the tensioner assembly at 60,000 miles as a preventative measure. Belts too. Smart to carry spare parts.
And if outbacking, I'd have a much heavier toolbox including drills, bits, easyouts, and all the hand tools. Around 2000-2005, spent a few years up and down I-95 in a 86 B350 post office van, 3rd engine, second transmission, and none of it installed right... that toolbox was KEY. Water pumps, alternators, weird brake caliper failures... you name it I probably fixed it on the side of the interstate in that van.
I live in a 5 ton full time now for 10 years. I use a paper plate to cover the top of my pan when doing sunny side up. It will cook them fast this way so you will need to watch them till you get what you are looking for. Just saw the message below mine and I think that might even work better.
Another trick for excellent sunny side up eggs without overcooking them - when you add the eggs to the pan, add a tablespoon or so of water and pop a lid on for a minute or so, it basically poaches/steams the tops (time depends on how hot the pan is.)
in 2012 41 sq miles burned at pole creek, in 17' 417 sq miles including 24 sq miles of the PCT burned in the western half of the 3 sisters forest . . .
On your eggs, and with cast iron in general, heat management is key, don't go full-on high heat. secondly, for "sunny-side-up", use a lid, it'll steam heat the top of the eggs. I eat four eggs with some cheese and different spices fr lunch every day, cooked in a cast iron pan in butter... Before the eggs are fully done I turn off the gas and let them finish off a bit with the lid still on - After I'm done I just wipe out the pan with, usually, a pre-used paper towel....
Hi a little tip for your eggs. What I do with mine is to put a pot lid over them with just a splash of water it helps set up the top. Almost like poached. Just take it off when it’s done to your liking. P.s. thanks for the content. I really enjoy it
as long as that belt doesn't drive your water pump you can drive that van as far as you want or as long as your battery lasts, no lights or accessories your battery should last the day just running the engine, no heater either..
Good that you had multiple back-up systems in place to rest comfortably until help came. That stove pipe through the van window was pretty trick. Happy Camping!
I just replaced the serpentine belt on my 2004 F-150 4x4 before heading out to AZ for fun in the desert. Was having no problems with it, but have had the truck for 3 years and who knows if or when it was last replaced. Didn't want to have issues during my 1,800 mile journey.
For you trailer and van life folks that adventure where there a lot of sunlight, get an All America Sun Oven. You can roast a turkey in one of those, bake bread, etc.For you application, Coleman makes an oven accessory for their white gas stoves that would work on your wood stove or gas range for baking...
Take heart. We’re driving the PanAmerican in Panama and are waiting for a brake part to be shipped from Florida. If you use a van it will break! But you need brakes..! Or belts. Keel having fun.
Fyi. Lost my alternator while boondocking. Since i had house battery with solar n 2000 watr invertor, i had to wait a week so i used my battery charger pwr from invertor , ran all week until replacment artrived no problem worked as good as altornator, you may jot of had water pump missing belt quick fix 4 bad altornator. Happy tralis safe travels .
I found your channel from Caseys' video from the other day. I love your wood stove setup and the window exhaust setup.I'm glad he was able to help you out. I'm also a member of Caseys' patreon, I consider it pre-paymants in case I ever end up in his neck of the woods and need his services.
When i bought my 97 ranger pickup it was beat to shit. I asked the guy when he changed timing belt. He said six months ago. Been three years im gonna change it lol.
The lack of snow is very concerning. The snow is coming but it's late and I'm not sure because of the temperatue the snow will have a high moisture content. Even if it is cold outside and it snows a lot the days are longer. Late snow makes for runoff and does not fill lakes and reservoirs. It could make for a terrible fire season. Hope that doesn't happen.
Hi there I've been in that situation before. Here's some of my fixes. First was out 8n the mountains once battery went dead took the belts off and the bar off my chainsaw. , was able to turn alternater with the Cain off chainsaw charged my battery saved about a 20 mile hike in the snow. Once I was driving semi my belt broke climbing rygrass pass had some rope tied it tight around where the belt goes and was able to climb the hill fully loaded. Had to rethread the fix a couple times and when I got to the summit was able to limp to Ellensburg for parts.fixed truck and got to Seattle in time to unload. Really nice that Casey was able to get you made good content for bolth of you.but if you need to you could be creative. Shure you have better cordage than the 1/4 lunch Manila 4ope I used.
Biggest risk running the van without the belt is that (I think) that engine has a belt driven water pump!! So very short runs before it overheats and warps heads / blows head gaskets. Dunno why they didn't just run the water pump of a crank gear, but it is what it is. Be careful when running ANY engine without the serpentine belt.

when you cook eggs, take a half teaspoon of water and pore inside and quickly close the lid and it will cook the outer later of white and keep the yolk perfect. Youre welcome.
Oh my God I need to do this, I need to convert a van and start going places like this. There is nothing I want more than to be out and about, exploring the world! I've lived in Arizona all my life and I can't stand to be here another minute!
Wow. I just got done finishing my 2002 Ford E350 van I got for my planned cross country road trip this comming spring. I replaced everything I could imagine leaving me stranded. even though they wer all working good, Starter, battery, headlights, all the bulbs in every light, brakes, calipers pads rotors, tires, tie rods, Coil packs, splugs, when I replace the alternator, I replaces the idle, tensioner & serpt betl just to ensure exactly this would never happen.
I also watch Casey's videos. Maybe that's how I stumbled across your channel. I can't remember. But I'm glad he was available to rescue you. Pray for snow. Several states need the moisture.
I had a van not unlike yours. I locked up the plastic pulley that’s static mounted, not the tensioner one. All was good, I had kept a wore out one for a spare, but, it was a torx tip bolt (A 55 I believe) that caused me to limp into town for the socket I didn’t have with. Good times. BTW pulleys will interchange so you only need one spare. Change out that torx bolt for a hex. Great channel!
Jason, I'd already seen Casey's version of this video, and I wasn't expecting THIS video to be 'bout your breakdown/recovery. Pleasant surprise. I know you're busy, but I'm really lookin forward to your Van Camping videos, especially in th' Winter.
If you want eggs sunny side up, break your eggs in the hot pan, add a dash of water put a lid on and close your burner, il work's everytime !! really enjoy your vid's !!
Hello and just wanted to say that I was watching 👀 Casey ladells channel and saw 👀 you and your channel so i came over and subscribed, great stuff on your channel 👍
I LOVE YOUR VAN!!! AWESOMENESS!!! I'm Sorry About The Issues But It's Still FANTASTIC!!! Used To Live There Outside Of Wizard Falls & Hatchery In The Woods outside of Sisters With My 2000 GMC YUKON !!! Liked & Subbed!!! Stay Strong, Live Long!!!
For your eggs, get them just about cooked on the bottom, toss just a little bit of water (very little) in and cover with a lid. Then you can turn the heat off, or take them off the heat. The steam created will finish cooking the top, without burning the bottom and will leave your yolks runny, as you please.
Hi Jason!! Happy New Year! Heck ofa way to start the year off huh?!! Looks like your request for Winter Snow has been heard.. Just checking the NWS and I see Snow, Blizzard Cascades and near Bend, etc..snow all week! Good deal!! Looking forward to your next campventure! Please be Safe and Keep grabbing that Gusto you seek! Love LOVE! Your VERY CLEVER Window/ Door stove set-up up!!!! Who knew?! I assume you already did a tech video about it.. You find such amazing sites to visit and enjoy! Happy, Healthy Blessings and Warm Regards! So glad Casey came to your rescue!! He is one very AMAZING and Kind Soul!!! Great to have besties Like you two have!! Cheers!!🚐🌌🏕🏔🏞🙋♀️- Mindi
really dig your setup, I have wanted a 4x4 van for along time now, they are so hard to find, good ones and I don't want to pay $75k for the largo cargo style, altho they are very nice they are expensive.. like to have a nice large diesel cargo 4x tho.. yup, install a lightweight camper inside it..
Sorry your van broke, but it was still a good video. Hope the repair goes easy and for the sunny side up eggs...... a TBSP water and a lid. Good luck and I look forward to your next video.
camped at that spot once. Felt a little exposed there and great water down the hill but never caught a fish there. Have caught them below the bridge(north) a ways up close to that campsite you came across.
I've always eaten sunny side up eggs. Ive had very good success cooking the eggs over a low flame. Cook them low and slow and I think you'll be happy with them.
Heard you talking about your transmission upgrade plans over on Casey's channel, you're gonna like it. I have an '86 Ramcharger with a '90 roller block based 410" stroker in it. I mated that to a 2016 8HP70 eight speed from a Ram 1500 4x4. Took some tinkering to mate the original NP208D t-case to it, but it's in there. The trans is operated with a Sound German Automotive/PCS controller. It made it into a whole different truck. The 8spd's 4.69 1st gear vs the 727 three speed's 2.45 almost doubles low range with 4.10 axles, 50.3:1 ratio vs 26.3:1. Even 2nd gear in the 8HP is lower than 1st in the 727. The two OD ratios certainly don't hurt my feelings either. I'll be watching your progress.
You have a good state of mind in this situation Jason but if you have your home with you and food and beautiful surroundings with you, what else do you need!
The van is absolutely cool cook top oven and hood combo an total drive train an large battery bank rv upgrade an there not ah luxury apt on earth better than the van very practical
You need to take a trick from the old timers. There was always a set of nylons as in women’s hosiery, and that way if you broke a belt, you could wrap it tightly and tie it off because you could make basically any size you needed, and it would do in a pinch to go, a shorter distance or in your case not bad considering you’re not dealing with a V belt. They also make belts that are adjustable sizes and that is something else that is good to keep with you that way if power steering pump freezes up, you can bypass it or other things.I understand you travel minimally and this would take up very little space and be handy for things in the future as well as have other uses.
My uncle years ago showed me a bag of belts and hoses etc. that he grabbed from u-pull-it. I've always carried spare everything on account of interstate work travel. Of course it take a pickup minimumly.
"CASEY", heck yeah. I follow his channel. He's a good person. Your rig is pretty sweet, bro. You have it set up nice. Good that more damage was not done when the tensioner gave up. I've seen them destroy radiators and the like. Thanks for the video. New subscriber.
Considering that you have the ability to charge 12v batteries on your camper, could a short belt be installed between the crank pulley and the water pump in emergencies? If so, this could cover all future belt related emergencies except the water pump itself, to get you back to town.
I'm sorry your van is down dear. Talk about bringing in the new year with a bang! Seems the in thing right now- several other vanlifers are having mechanical troubles as well. But it's so good to know you have a great call a friend card to help in times of need. And I can't think of better than Casey. He knows what he's doing and is always happy to help. Hoping you get your rig up and running again quickly and not break the bank. Happy new year dear, Stay safe and GOD bless
Jason, for sunny side eggs, have a lid for your pan, then add in a couple spoons of water, and steam them. You will not need to even flip them. They will be velvety soft!! Old diner hack.
Easiest way to make

Heh - I just said the same thing, I should have scrolled down and read the other comments first :)
Was going to comment the same.
Bingo, I was just going to comment the same thing.
It works great !

Awesome idea on the window insert! Great way to have a wood stove without going through the ceiling.

Turned out to be a good trip even with the motor issues.
Keep a pair of pants hose for a broken belt or idler you can tie them on and run your fan, alternator

Breaking down in the bush is fear of mine overlanding .
My 95 ram 4x4 is tough , but old . But even new rigs breakdaown .
1500 or 2500 pickup (or one ton), or converted 1500 or 2500 van ?
Literally had this problem a month ago with the serpentine belt coming off because a broken belt tightener.
as long as that belt doesn't drive your water pump you can drive that van as far as you want or as long as your battery lasts, no lights or accessories your battery should last the day just running the engine, no heater either..

Yes, important to do periodic replacement, whether it looks worn or not! I take my most recent belt with me as a spare.
It’s great to have friends that when they first see you, they’re already smiling. Skillet

Lowest possible heat on eggs, olive oil (keeps from sticking) works well for me .. try them in steel cut oats with seasoning and pepper cheese.

Props to Casey. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome! I just bought a older Econoline high top and plan on starting out on my own adventure very, very soon. Great inspiration brother.👋🤘🤘
Thankyou you guys ...good giggle
A wood stove in your van .. freakin sick!
I saw Casey's video already... cool recovery. Hope the van was an easy fix. Thanks for the video
I hate it when things go “dangley”.
Cascades are getting their snow finally. Going to be a gnarly week in the woods
really dig your setup, I have wanted a 4x4 van for along time now, they are so hard to find, good ones and I don't want to pay $75k for the largo cargo style, altho they are very nice they are expensive.. like to have a nice large diesel cargo 4x tho.. yup, install a lightweight camper inside it..

do you know how much i hate snow and cold...well let me tell ya....spending 6 months in southern Arizona....winter here good..winter in snow bad
re: sunny up eggs add a few ounces of water and put a lid on the pan and the steam will do the top of the eggs.
Sorry your van broke, but it was still a good video. Hope the repair goes easy and for the sunny side up eggs...... a TBSP water and a lid.

I've always eaten sunny side up eggs. Ive had very good success cooking the eggs over a low flame. Cook them low and slow and I think you'll be happy with them.
Well, that was an interesting adventure. Casey is the Man!
I’m a big fan of the fixing the van episodes hint hint
Nice set up with the heating. The van using the window as an exit point for the woodburn you have I like that concept that's very nice
You started the New Year with a Bang
Sorry to see you broke down, but at least you got to slow down and take in Nature's beauty.
I hate when they don't tell you their location! How about just the state? Casey towed him to Prineville, Oregon.
That weird camp with the Starlink has been up there for at least a month now. Time for the FS to 14 day them.
awesome footage great video editing. good job. love your rig and layout.
If you have to be broke down, The van is the way.
Savage, epic vid bud
Excited for the wood stove video
I had that exact failure on a 7.3 in a 1995 F250 on the highway at 70mph in the dead of January a long time ago. Scared the poop outta me.
Brakes not working properly. Steering not working properly. Great place to be camping up in the mountains.
"CASEY", heck yeah. I follow his channel. He's a good person. Your rig is pretty sweet, bro. You have it set up nice. Good that more damage was not done when the tensioner gave up. I've seen them destroy radiators and the like. Thanks for the video. New subscriber.
Happy to subscribe.❤
for the eggs, toss in a tiny bit of water and cover. the steam will cook the tops.
Considering that you have the ability to charge 12v batteries on your camper, could a short belt be installed between the crank pulley and the water pump in emergencies? If so, this could cover all future belt related emergencies except the water pump itself, to get you back to town.
Fireplace chimney amazing well done Nuno Portugal Best Regards
I'm sorry your van is down dear. Talk about bringing in the new year with a bang! Seems the in thing right now- several other vanlifers are having mechanical troubles as well. But it's so good to know you have a great call a friend card to help in times of need. And I can't think of better than Casey. He knows what he's doing and is always happy to help. Hoping you get your rig up and running again quickly and not break the bank. Happy new year dear, Stay safe and GOD bless
I wouldn't consider driving a mini-tank filled with tech to be the "broke life"
Glad everything worked out all right.
Especially the eggs. I was worried there for a moment.
Thanks Casey
Always fun and exciting on the road
