"Time travel doesn't work like that."
Arguably, time travel doesn't work at all, but once we start to write fictional rules about it, there's isn't just one coherent set of those.
That's fair! I'll try not to get up on my high horse about time travel rules. - McNeil
@@HS2comedy It's best to let go of that horse as far as Doctor Who is concerned and abandon all you think you know as irrelevant! Try Simon laplace's Demon with a dose of juxtapositional Surrealism and HG Wells as a primer. If something has the appearance of being ludicrous or cute, wait until you see it's teeth!
@@josefschiltz2192 Oh that might just be the best description of Who, I've ever read
@@danic9304 That's one of the best compliments I've ever had and about my favourite subject - apart from Surrealism, philosophy and science, which seem all to mix in Doctor Who so well. Thanks!
This show is a bit of a roller coaster, it's weird, wacky and British but it's so worth the journey
And remember between seasons there's usually a Christmas special or more and they are full mandatory episodes.
^^^^ this
You shouldn't watch the Next time previews because they're just spoilers
Because of you, I almost injured myself yesterday, swiftly jumping from my seat to stop the video before the preview started. I hope you're happy... -McNeil :)
@@HS2comedy hahah your pain will be appreciated
I have never seen anyone not immediately understand that she works at the store, lol
I thought she was just shopping! Where's her uniform? 😂 -McNeil
Yeah she worked at a clothing shop until it blew up.
The idea of the telephone box time machine was borrowed much later by bill and Ted in the movies... when the program started in 1963 (the same week Kennedy was shot) blue police telephone boxes were everywhere in the uk and hence the doctors ship camouflaged itself as one but then the chameleon circuit got stuck.
interesting! and I love Bill and Ted so excellent! - Andrew
If there was one single show that I could completely wipe from my mind to experience again, hands down & without question, it would be Doctor Who.
I may know a guy... very proficient in memory editing.
The search engine Rose uses is a made-up one: the BBC doesn't advertise goods or services, even in passing.
The plastic creatures first appeared in Classic Who. Nice of them to bring back a Classic villain for the very first new Who eiposde
We don't have racoons.
lol good to know - Andrew
I only have them with chips - UK chips, that is, not US ones
It gets better and better as the show goes on! And i agree completely i've loved the show for years but only got to the classics recently and am enjoying them, but would definitely wait until you are done with the new!
I would suggest waiting a couple of series to get the hang of the show - then dip one toe (or perhaps two) into the Classics, because increasing 'elements' from the original series are reintroduced (sometimes with better explanation than others),and it's always good to see reactors recognising various things.
What other series can be on an alien world one week, in a black hole another then meeting famous historical figures (from the states too!) or seeing Pompeii destroyed another week....its such a variety!!
Horror, then comedy, then cheesy then mystery... Verity thy name is doctor who.
@@whovian4ever906 spot on! Wonderful variety!!
I hope you kept up with this. My advise... Open mind is good. Don’t accept spoils. Accept cheesy and corn.
The old series had FX that were cheesy, even for it's time, but the stories were great! Also, all of the Doctors have distinct character traits despite they are all the same character. Tom Baker's Doctor, aka the 4th Doctor, is a must see from the classic series. As for the new series, the 1st season is a good warm up to the series as a whole. But the 2nd season will go at warp drive!
Once they see some of the modern doctor they should see genesis of the daleks with the fourth doctor. That’s the one that connects most with modern Who. I’d say watch after the first season
Given what the Classic's budget was, it's not surprising that they had little money for FX - and given the state of the technology of the time, it's not surprising that the effects were often cheesy. But considering those two limiting factors, it's still pretty amazing what they managed to accomplish
If you're patient with this show, you'll find it to be one of the most rewarding and unique ones to get immersed in. It's unpredictable and unravels its secrets slowly, but the mix of drama, comedy, surprise and emotion make even the weaker episodes worth watching. Just be careful to avoid spoilers in the comments.
Has there been a black doctor?.... It is.... Complicated.
lol I'm scared to google it because I don't want spoilers... - McNeil
@@HS2comedy seriously don't google it!!!!
It's a long story
I'll just say we have no idea and won't google it BUT we are working towards getting McNeil's name in the mix for casting. - Andrew
@@samtheking25 A very long story.
CEO means Chief Electrical Officer. Basically the sort of job you run out of a cupboard in the basement. The person in charge of a British company is the Managing Director.
yes although we do now use the term Chief Executive in many corporate bodies.
Using CEO on the sign is just Wilsons sense of humour, great character development for someone we never see or hear of again.
"With 12 Seasons there's no way you could keep doing that without bulk" I mean the Season you started on was Season 27 so. There's already long established characters, locations, rules, cliches etc. There's not 12 Seasons, there's 38
Did the UK have Google? The www is a British invention. Also if it's on the internet it's everywhere.
That's awesome. In America they teach us that all inventions are American. Your welcome for cuneiform and language lol - Andrew
CGI improves dramatically in later seasons.
Fun fact about this episode, RTD knew he’d have a tight budget and that CGI would look very ‘plastic’. That’s why he wrote the Autons for the first episode, the fact the CGI looked plastic actually helped sell the fact they were living plastic.

It is episodic but sometimes they are 2 or 3 parters, there is also usually a season arc..(if u look carefully u will spot things in most episodes this season that are relevant in the finale) speaking of game of thrones, you will spot many cast members from that in later seasons.... finally the plastic baddies were a favorite of the show runner Russell t Davies from the old series and originally were in some episodes from very early 70s, hence when he brought the series back he started with them....
“I’m going plastic free”
“As everyone should”
I like this. You guys speak my language
You guys are doing GoT AND now Doctor Who as well? YASSS, subbed! Epicness is on its way. You should set up a Patreon to bring them early episodes, I'd sub to that too!
Welcome to the squad!! We're happy to have you. -McNeil
If you watch them all....don't forget the properly placed Christmas Specials....
Welcome to the fandom of doctor who reactors. Except your sub count to go up as reactions to doctor who are very popular.
Especially now. Because of corona.
Yeah man - my first thought was to sub - my second thought was to go post a link in the reaction based discord channel I frequent ;P
"did they have Google in Britain in 2005?" Lol I hope a lot of the stuff you both said were supposed to be jokes
Hey guys, that was a fun and interesting reaction. To add a historical note, the call back to the Kennedy assassination is a call back to the original show, since it began transmission on 23 November 1963, which of course is the day after the assassination occurred. The original show ran continuously till 1989, 26 seasons. I was born in 1971 and have been watching it fairly religiously since 1974. There was a failed pilot for a BBC/Universal co-produced revival series in 1996, which aired as a FOX TV movie. Then the BBC decided to revive it themselves. The writer of this episode, and showrunner, was a massive Dr Who fan and had just made a name for himself as an acclaimed TV writer, having created the show 'Queer as Folk' . The BBC wanted to work with him, and he wanted to revive Doctor Who, and the rest is history.
You seem like a nice couple of guys; welcome to Who.
bear in mind this was 2005, with little budget, for a very old uk show with a history. and its the pilot. so it looks and is a bit cheesy at 1st, it gets a lot better. not sure what accents you are trying to do either, no such thing as a british accent :)
People are very good at blocking out things they don't like, which pretty much explains the public's lack of reaction to the plastic people wandering around. It gets explained a few times as the series go on
I`m waiting for the next episode, guys! You don`t know where you`re going through. Welcome to the club!
You will never guess where this show will go because they can use any genre and any time. The Doctor is more than he appears to be. You have to watch to find out!
38 seasons now, and Star Wars takes place in only one galaxy, Doctor Who is set in several universes.
Right it's so weird to me (even tho it isn't weird) when someone hasn't watched the show because I'm British so for me it's a family show just like a soap that you sit down with your family and watch whilst eating your tea.
i'm american and i feel this way too lol
I love watching new people reactions to doctor who it's an emotional journey but you will love the story enjoy
Ceation: November 23, 1963. 38 Seasons. 12 in NuWho. Aliens: The Autons. They premiered: 1971.
Doctor Who is the best show. And very crazy too. And goofy. And funny... And sad... And scary. All this and more.
classic who has episodes that were deleted to make space for other bbc shows back when they were not digital but were videos so hard to find probably refers to how many episodces were completly lost
really enjoyed the conversation before the episode. normally i get bored when people do this but it was a real interesting conversation.
dr who the show has never been afraid to kill people. there are a lot of Easter eggs for fans of the original show but you don't need to have seen old who to enjoy the show. for instance the Autons from this episode first showed up in 1970
You can say that again. Body count in doctor who is ridiculously grand.
Try to avoid the next time trailers.
Will do! Thanks for the tip! - Andrew
"Do cats still exist?" - They do, they are nurses.

Aw, maaaaan! Just when I thought I was getting through the series with those I'm currently following, you guys pop up... Back to the beginning I go. There are (as with most shows) some duff episodes to get through, but I reckon, overall, you're in for a treat...
…And THEN I find out you're working your way though GoT too! Dagnammit! I thought I was done with that too! (I should probably stop clicking on the "Recommended for You" links. Sigh!)
Also this is tied for my favorite show so happy another reactor is watching it
Hey Andrew and McNeil, pretty surprised you enjoyed Dr Who but I cannot say I mind. If you accept that it is voluntarily cheesy, campy at times, intended for children (though you already saw it doen't mean the same as on American tv) and tying threads of stories and villains from the 60s, Doctor Who is a very enjoyable show and can really pull you in! I very strongly love it myself.
Glad that McNeil is an "early shipper" because it helps you get attached to the characters and their stakes and your reactions will be very fun to watch
It is intended for the whole family. It *was* intended for children back in the days.
Yeah there’s quite a few adult references especially when Jack gets into it!
Rose really isn't a gymnast. She got the bronze medal for her Junior School's under-7's team.
Lol we don’t have raccoons in U.K.
After you see some of nuWho try the first and second episode of the classic doctor who. Those episodes are done very 1963, however once you know the character of the doctor (and some of his adversaries) it’s kinda cool to go back and see how it started.
All your questions will be answered if you give this show time, by series 3 you'll know everything you need to!
Sometimes the the answers are repeated, and contradictory. But that's Dr Who! :)
good reaction Doctor Who is a Family show and its Also the Longest Running Sci Fi Show of all Time. series 1 had a decent budget has aged though its still very good. and yes alien stuff has been happening on earth for a long time in this universe but the government has covered it up
Mickey's evolution is like Bruce Campbell's in the Evil Dead series. He starts off a coward, but by the end, he's a badass.
You won’t find yourself in the future if you never make back home.
14:16 Fun fact, the first episod of Doctor Who aired the day after Kennedy's assassination in 63. People didn't even watch it because all eyes were locked on the news channels.
Fun fact the first ever episode of doctor who in 1963 aired when JFK was assassinated. If they did not re air the first episode it may have not passed the first season. What a loss that would be.
Weird that this is the BBC One off-air, complete with TX error!
Raccoons don't live in the UK lol
If you wanna dip into the original series, I'd say wait a bit till this version beds in, then maybe sample it. If you decide to do so during the 2005 series, (which is doable), I would watch the very first episode (just the pilot - if you want more from the 1963/4 season I'd do the first 13 episodes which are a sort of arc). But the 6-part story from 1975, Genesis of the Daleks, I'd say is fairly essential viewing for a new new series fan, if you really want some background detail (original series episodes are 25 minutes long, FYI).
But the 2005 series is designed so that nothing from the past is really essential, for regular viewers. And that's true of any new start to the show really in any era. It's true of the 1970 season, it's true of the 1974/4 season, it's true of the 1996 TV movie. It's true of later episodes too, like the beginnings of the 2010, 2017 and 2018 seasons. Loads of jumping on points.
Welcome to the best show ever, careful with the episode order it gets tricky later, basically there will be a series and then a Christmas special which whilst being a special can be essential to the time line of the show. That said later on it is a little different but I'm sure others can guide you.
Welcome aboard! One episode down, and only 164 (or thereabouts) to go, at least for the modern era since 2005. I hope you guys are prepared for the long haul. How regularly do you intend to post these? As others have said, each season gets progressively better, but there are outstanding episodes in each one. Looking forward to more from you.
We we're going to do once a week for now. We're a fairly new channel and we're currently doing Game of Thrones as well! We are glad you're with us!!!
Yeah, starting with the 2005 reboot is a perfect place to start for newcomers to the show, requires little if any knowledge of the old show. I hope you enjoy and keep doing these, it's a great season and while not every episode is a masterpiece it has great episodes and moments all over
Wait...Are you guys watching a copy of the original broadcast with the sound bleed from Graham Norton? That's an interesting choice.
I have no clue what that means :)
@@HS2comedy No, fair enough. You can hear it for a couple of seconds at 4:58 in your video. On first broadcast someone at the BBC messed up and and transmitted sound from one of their studios that was hosting a live broadcast, over the top of the sound from Dr Who. So you have random cheering sounds in a quiet, creepy scene.
Obviously this isn't on any of the DVD releases/streaming services if you watch it now, so you have a recording of the original broadcast.
@@wellington-rq2br Thanks, I was wondering the first time I watched this episode why it had those weird sounds. I think all the pirated versions online have them.
@@thundervoid420 lol yes. That's what I thought. I was trying to be diplomatic when I said it was an "interesting choice." I don't want them to attract the attention of the copyright people!
I would definitely watch the 2005 to present then watch the old stuff
This should be interesting:) Im a brit and grew up with this show in the 60s an 70s, And a big fan of these seasons... As there is an age and culture difference between us, im enjoying your take on it:) While I sometimes cringe at bad accent attempts, your growth will be interesting!
Originally, in the classic series before the reboot happened, Doctor Who had no romance in it between the Doctor and his companion and it's really supposed to stay that way especially considering he's a VERY old alien and friendship is as far as you can get with him but then again, there are a few exceptions but I just hope you guys don't turn into die-hard Rose fans, that entire fanbase is annoying as hell but I'll let you watch to see for yourself of what you make of Rose. She's very popular with the fans but my least favourite companion for very good reasons but I'll let you continue to watch to see what you make of her and the others.
Season one is low budget but it gets more budget each season
"I'm shipping them already" so were the showrunners tbf
Can’t wait to see the next episode
Fun fact, the show started the day after the Kennedy assassination, so that's a little nod to it
Great reaction, get through the ancient vfx and just sometimes goofiness of some of season 1 and you have some amazing ness, also at least 3 episodes in season 1 are still some of my favorites
hope you stick with it. dont read these comments personally and dont watch trailers. id get an episode list as there are mini episodes at certain times. looking forward to joining you on your journey
The Doctor is Bond and Q put together.
Those black bins we call them wheelie bins
Shipping Rose/Doctor already? I see you are a man of culture
Here for the WHO, stick with it, ups and downs, some strange stuff, some great stuff.
You're exactly right with saying it's going to be a mix between episode by episode stories, but with an overarching narrative arc. It is still worth thinking of the whole series/seasons as a whole though, as there are some subtle links along the way. The first episode is OK but really will take a while for you to fall into it properly. Hope you're along for the long run! :)
As for hard to find, it's not. BUT, there are nearly 100 episodes from the first six seasons which are missing and no longer exist
Cut the use of the show on screen down to 10 minutes so you can turn up the volume. Edit out the sections where you look bored and/or you're yawning, and Christ, pay attention or maybe don't get so stoned before recording.
No smoking involved. I really just didn't sleep tonight before. Had me some nightmares. -McNeil
Did they have google in britain in 2005?
Really? it was 2005, not the fucking middle ages
I don't remember middle school on account of all the trauma - Andrew
Watch Luther for a strong black British male lead, because Micky not there yet
2005 budget? That's the size of the explosion.
"Plastic free" well if you do that, you're not helping stop the invading force...
You don't survive Doctor Who but you guys might survive Eight Legged Freaks lol
...
And their not "villains" necessarily, lol. They're just different species.
I do like listening to your "newbies" perspective of watching this.
Not "Doctor Who" just the "Doctor"
i quite like series 1 but it does have a lot of problems that they mostly work out later but there is also a lot of good with the characters and overarching story that they dont improve on for a while at least till series 5. there is different people running the show at different times and different characters so there is loads of different thoughts from people about what is good or not as good. like my favourite series are 5 6 8 9 but i have seen people put those as their least favourite so its impossible to say what someones opinions will be. also as they have to come up with a new idea for every episode and there is a lot of different writers the episode vary week to week. do not forget the specials between series they are important. hope u enjoy it.
Fuck yh new doctor who reactions im ready af for this
Welcome to the channel! - McNeil
A new who reaction? Hell yeah! Worth mentioning that you might wanna get yourself somebody you trust to moderate comments going forwards, because some who fans can get a bit overexcited
I second this.
Mickey gets a lot stronger.
Get through the early season and it gets much better! Looking forward to future reactions!
That was definitely one o' the more unusual and hilarious reactions to Who I've seen. It's always interesting to see people react to the show with completely fresh eyes though. Doctor Who is a revival (resurrection?) of a long-running, low-budget British scifi show originating all the way back in the '60s and running for.. 26? years. It holds a same place in UK pop culture as Star Trek does in US pop culture and is as well known. Anyway, if you guys decides to keep watching it, as a long time fan, I'd say the story, the characters, the plots, and the show itself, particularly the sort of science fiction themes and questions it explores all really grow on you. As does a lotta the creepy, actually kinda scarier qualities of the stories.
There were some periods of Classic Who, during the '70s, when the show got really into a period of Gothic horror themes reaching something of a historical high point in viewership and likewise earning the attention of media watchdog groups who wrote in to complain the show became *too* scary and was traumatizing kids, which unfortunately put an end to that. However, there's a bit of that heritage there, the elements of which still occasionally show up or get a nod from the modern series at times.
Did britain have google back then, we are not a third world country, in programmes that are fictional you make up names for things so you dont advertise the search engine was a replacement fir google. And it's not called britain this series is set mainly in England, britain is the whole island which is made up of Scotland, England and Wales.
Yay!!
Idk how old y'all are but I'm 27 and I'm still terrified of basements, luckily weve never had one lol
Over the shows nearly 60 years, the Doctor always has a companion on his travels, usually female - not a romantic thing, he's usually pretty asexual - they are there as a narrative device for us the audience for the Doctor to explain who and what is going on. This first series (first of new who at least) looks wise is kind of dated but keep at it, the production values get much better and you'll recognise a lot of famous British faces.
Good luck, it gets SO MUCH BETTER
Wrong it WAS so much better
I can't believe how much you see racism in this... Life must be hard if you see it everywhere, even when someone is putting the bin out???
This is England, we don't have racoons your predetermined mindset isn't even based in the right country. Yet you judge immediately and without understanding or knowledge.
This started in 1963 it's been going a lot longer than 12 seasons, it predates Star Trek, Star Wars and just about every sci-fi you can think of... You've got to think a lot longer term than two episodes. The characters arcs in this show cross seasons...
The doctor is a name he gave himself thousands of years ago, and as he travelled the universe fixing things people adopted the word to mean healer... so according to the program we get the word from him!!
Why post a spoiler like this?
Granted it's not a huge thing but it's still something.
@@hichaelmartline is it a spoiler? Wow get a life, there are infinitely more spoilers in any trailer for who. Magazine covers show images that are theoretical spoilers. The fact that someone watching now from start probably knows there are other doctors to come is a spoiler. Mentioning him being the doctor has no bearing on any thread or plot point. Blimey, there are more important things going on in the world at the moment!!
Stick with it. Dr Who - best show on tv. There really is nothing else like it. Avoid the next time trailers and keep away from internet spoilers!
