I had no idea y'all were going to watch this! This is the first Doctor I ever watched and I've been obsessed ever since! I cannot WAIT to watch this with y'all. It's campy and cheesy and an absolute blast to watch! I'm so excited!!!!
It's not a reboot, it's a return. This is the same Doctor who was on TV in the 60's 70's and the 80's movie. This is the 9th version of the same person. He dies, his body changes. Same memories, new body, new personality for the most part. This 2005 return was a gamble because DW hadn't been on TV for a long time. They do a full intro for new watchers to the universe.
@@phantomquartz0586 the 2005 is seen as a revival more than a reboot, but if you're asking about the Doctor changing bodies, in universe that's called regeneration.
@@Josh-wu7kz it's helpful for a lot of new viewers to know that here "reboot" is being used (by the BBC or others) to refer to bringing the show back, revitalising it, making it completely accessible to new viewers but still being a continuation or sequel to the series that aired from 1963-89. Some people use "reboot" strictly to mean that it's a do-over, or a brand new version, (the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies are a reboot following the Toby Maguire movies might be a useful example of this usage), so a little disambiguation can aid understanding. Same as they say NuWho Season 5 is a 'soft-reboot' or the latest special is another 'soft-reboot': it's not discounting the previous material, but it's a good jumping on point.
The mannequins with the 'handguns' are a call back to their first appearance back in 1970. In that story the guns made more sense as the mannequins had been manufactured by the alien rather than just taken over.
I felt so sorry for Clive. All that dedicated research & his knowledge of The Doctor - just gone in an instant. At least his wife and son finally knew he wasn't crazy, but it was a tragic way to learn.
Eccleston and Ncuti's Doctors are at entirely different points of their lives so the difference in their personalities is to be expected. You'll learn a lot more about that with Eccleston's Doctor going forward.
Totally agree with this comment. Also, the actor portrays the doctor, but it is the writers that set the tone and character. The actors don't have as much control over the personalities as you might think. So lots of Whovians look at who was in charge of the series and who was writing the episode when they are critiquing. Whovians also seem to enjoy arguing and complaining about overall plots and whether a storyline improves or ruins the franchise. So when you are picking a favorite doctor, in a sense you are not just picking the actor but also picking the people in charge at the time. Have fun!
In 1989 it was decided to give the series a break, in 1996 a relaunch was attempted in the form of a film and in 2005 again with this series that still continues. Everything is considered canon, counting the Doctors of the classic series and the one in the movie, the first Doctor of this series is considered the Ninth Doctor.
Exactly! The character development is the thing. Without Eccleston's Doctor, there wouldn't have been anywhere for Tennant's Doctor to go, and so on, and so on.
Oh, I can't believe it's finally here. Just enjoy the journey and have a blast. By the time you are caught up,, I'm sure you'll want to watch Classic Who too. I'm with you all the way for this journey. Love you guys!!!
Doctor Who is one continuous story from the first episode (An Unearthly Child) to the most recent episode (The Church on Ruby Road), but it's split into 3 main eras: Doctor Who "Classic Who" (1963-1989) Doctor Who "Revival Who" (2005-2023) Doctor Who "Disney Who" (2024-) Rose is the start of Revival Who and is considered the best starting point for new fans, but I would recommend watching some of the classic show once you get use to it.
Great to see new reactors to the show. First off it's a revival of the show so its technically season 27.. (we now have 3 series 1's which is confusing😀). Also this is the 9th doctor. All the lore will be explained as you go along. It's a family show (8-80) but originally started as an educational show focused on kids (except some of the things they did in the early days wouldn't get on family tv now). The first episode went out on November 23rd 1963 - hence the Kennedy refererence and was repeated a week later to give it a second chance. It's not really true that the companion(s) do most of the work - they're to be the substitute audiance (you know, 'what's that doctor?' so thst we get the explanation). They were recasting the profile of the female companion to be more proactive which i think is why Rose has such a presence in this epusode (the bronze is the bronze award at a schoolgynastics competition). Btw episodes 4 & 5 irritate most adults but don't let that stop you - episode 6 is a classic episode.
Naming this by episode was a little tricky. We're calling this season one based on HBO Max's description and IMDB's description. Thank you for the comment. It's been fun so far.
@@Syntell Doctor Who is fairly straightforward to watch...... BUT, there are quite a few minisodes and specials that need to be watched in the correct order. In addition there are two spin offs that crossover with the main show. They are not absolutely necessary to watch but add a lot of depth to the universe. If you are interested I can provide you with a watch order as well as links to download copies of the episodes from my archive with the "previously on's" and "next time on's" edited out. If this would be useful let me know and I will get you the links
@@palisade32 Please provide us with a watch order. I have never watched Doctor Who but I have seen a season? of Torchwood, so I am aware of Capt. Jack Harkness.
Rose said “I’ve got the bronze” as in bronze medal for gymnastics in school. So she could swing on the rope (chain) and knock the anti plastic into the plastic monster. That monster goes back to about 1970 in Doctor Who. I watched in the mid to late 70s. The Doctor is always the same person even though he has some degree of personality change when he regenerates (when fatally wounded his body regenerates into a “new” person… even though he is the same person). This doctor (the ninth) is much younger than ncuti’s Doctor and as time goes on you will understand more. The doctor is alien and sometimes he can act very alien even though he looks human. The show is usually written on two levels… one for the 8 year olds watching and one level for the grownups. It can be scary for kids but so are fairy tales.
My love of Doctor who brought me to ur channel happy to be part of the channel 🎉one of fav shows ever prepare for a long epic journey that transcends time and space
to be fair to mickey, he was just kidnapped and hold hostage and probably thought for hours he would get killed so xD give that man a minute to be scared xD he needs therapy xD
Can't believe I'm about to watch yet another Doctor Who reaction series, haha. But this was such a joy to watch and I'm so excited to watch you guys experience this journey! Episode 6 is where things get really good and you learn a lot more lore. I hope to welcome new Whovians to the family!
YAY!!!! THANKS for this!!!!! I'm so happy I stopped watching another RUclips commentary video just to watch this!!! LOL!!!! Just between us brothers, Mikey has a looong arc, so enjoy it!!!!
Yes, he definitely does. Despite the fact that the actor did some shitty stuff, the character Micky is one of my favorites for his arc of growth and change.
You are in a very interesting situation where you know where The Doctor is headed, so you get to experience the mystery of where Ncuti's doctor comes from. The show is definitely made with kids in mind and walks a tightrope between being for kids and for adults. This is going to be a ride!
I envy you new watchers of the series. So many surprises, twists , and turns ahead. I'm not going to lie, watching this show made me a better person after college. In a way the show is like a "British Star Trek"; shows people what we can be as humans and how we can act and treat others in the face of great duress and strife. . . and having one hell of a fun time all the way. Hope you guys grow to love it like I do!
There is a reason why the Doctor is always in the vicinity of danger and doom. He is a time traveling do gooder who tries to do the right thing. He doesn’t have it in him to turn a blind eye to evil and injustice. But at this point even he doesn’t understand why trouble is occurring wherever he goes. It will be explained 😉
Quite often companions of the Doctor fall in love with him… in some cases to an unhealthy worshipful extent. During the original 1963 - 1989 run, a companion was a little too inspired by the Doctor’s example and lost his life trying to save the world. Then we the audience find out that the catastrophe the companion tried to prevent is a part of history that needed to happen. The ironic part is the Doctor isn’t trying to be suave, charismatic or seductive, he is just being himself. The Doctor does care about regular humans and especially about his companions. In a few cases, the audience is allowed to see that the supposed unrequited love of a companion towards the Doctor isn’t always so unrequited. I sometimes say the Companions should really be called the Doctor’s Disciples. They quite often drop everything in their lives to follow him into that little blue box. Some are gone for months, some for years and sadly some never make it back at all. This is a recurring theme throughout the 60 year run of the show so it’s not a spoiler. Hope you enjoy the episodes to come.
So excited to see new Who reactors. And so glad you seemed to enjoy it, I do hope you continue. I had an issue with Mickeys character be made out as weak. He has some really good character development as it goes along. Thanks for what you do. May your views and likes always be equal.
You are so valid re: Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor being more fun and caring-the Doctor takes, in my opinion, entirely too long for a being so old to grow the fuck up. They’re deeply traumatized so like, absolutely deserves some grace, but man does it take them a long time to start actually healing 😭 Eccleston’s Doctor starts in a low place, I think, very very validly, and he does get more hopeful-but from there, Tennant’s Doctor is a downwards spiral, and Matt Smith’s is rock bottom for a long time. It’s not until Capaldi that the Doctor stops running away quite so much, actually starts taking accountability for what they do, considers whether they’re even a good person, etc. That’s my current understanding of them, anyway!! I’m rewatching from the beginning right now, too. It’s a very complex character, and I’m excited to see what y’all come to think of them!!
I first watched doctor who when it first came out in the 60s. As a small child I would watch it behind a cushion as I wasn’t used to seeing monsters on the tv. I lost interest as I got older but started watching again when they started making it with Eccleston and been a fan since. Looking forward to watching them all with you.
The doctor is always a bad ass, often a wise ass, and sometimes a hard ass. The character varies from actor to actor, Eccleston defiantly plays the doctor more on the hard ass side of things.
subscribed! Cause I love to go on this adventure of you both turning into an Whovian, it's going to be very easy cause you both seems already tohave an Whovian soul. I have a soft spot for the 5th Doctor cause he was my first, my oldest daughter loved 9, my son and another daughter loved 10, my youngest loves 12 and another daughter fav is 13, but they all love 15 from his very first episode. It show you, there is a Doctor for everyone, the same memories and morals, but a different person as you've seen with 9 and 15. Though our family also did love Quantum Leap, it isn't the same but the heart was in that show and that's important too.
I love how pretty much everyone loves 15 from the jump. He's so dang charming. The Christmas special produced a Christmas miracle - Ncuti united the fandom 😂 I'm so happy to hear that someone's fav is 13. I finally caught up after a long hiatus (12 was a bit too shouty for me at the time), and while 10 will probably always be my favorite, 13 is the closest second you can get. She captured my heart. Also, it's so sweet to hear how your love of the Doctor got passed down to your kids. What a lovely way to bond ☺
The nostalgia is stroooong I started watching this as a young teen and it was almost my introduction into sci-fi and basically started my descent into nerdom
So excited to see your reactions to one off my all-time favourite shows! Really glad you started with the 2005 series. No spoilers, you don't need to know anything about the 1963-1989 run to watch 2005- as the production team knew - and hoped - there would be new viewers and explains everything as we go. So anything mysterious now is mysterious on purpose! The Doctor's travelling companions often serve as an 'audience substitute' discovering things as the same time as the viewer. Also, much as I like Rose, she's definitely a flawed (therefore realistic) character: although it's played for laughs I think that Rose not noticing that Mickey has turned into a less than realistic plastic copy shows how wrapped up in her own stuff she is, how she's sort of taking Mickey for granted. As for the Doctor blowing things up, he certainly doesn't care about property damage, but he makes sure he gets Rose out of the Department Store first. He has a contingency with the antiplastic to kill the Nestene Consciousness, but again gives it a chance to leave without loss of life (well, other than poor Wilson the custodian).
Okay, you guys cracked me up. I subbed. I'm in. Not only is it television, but it is publicly funded television. Doctor Who does have a surprisingly high body count. You are right; the writing is very layered and deceptively complex
I was introduced to Doctor Who a few years ago with the “New Who” eras (aka what yall just started with Rose and Mickey), you guys are in for some epic stories. Get past the early-2000s graphics and CGI and special effects, they eventually get seriously advanced. I can’t wait to see how yall react to the rest 🙏🏻
Binging on my favorite show through fresh eyes and loving it. To the 9th doctor being more smug/smarmy, he's fresh out of the time war and probably trying to cover it up emotionally, not to mention, 15 is older and wiser now. 9 was comparatively young by timelord standards. Loving your takes on it, for sure!
I was at a really bad place in my life when I found this show. It was everything I needed in so many ways, and i connected so strongly to Eccleston's portrayal of the Doctor. This show has something for everyone. If you don't like an episode or two in a row, don't worry, it's for someone else. Your episode will come along soon. Even with the episodes I wasn't a fan of, I've noticed there is a nugget that is important for future things. That to means no episode is a wasted episode. Also, as far as the Doctors go, everyone has one they really connect with very strongly and the rest they like to varying degrees. And it's different for everyone.
Ahh it's been so many years since I've last watched DW I just got hit by a huge wave of nostalgia I'm looking forward to experiencing it again through your reactions! Maybe it will make me catch up on all the new seasons
14:24 Ate by a garbage can is nothing. I once saw an episode of Doctor Who from the 1970’s where a dude was eaten by a BarcaLounger. I was like 6 or 7 at the time, it made me afraid of recliners for years. LOL.
The Doctor being at the Kennedy assassination is actually a reference to the fact that the very first episode of Doctor Who aired the day after the Kennedy assassination. With the assassination on the 22nd and Doctor Who on the 23rd of November 1963.
Man, I'm so excited you guys are going on this journey. This season and Eccleston were great, but it really picked up when David Tennant took over as the Tenth Doctor. He'll always be the Doctor of my heart. This Doctor, the Ninth Doctor, is still haunted by the Time War, hence his being so embittered and rude.
In Britain, since its inception in 1963, Doctor Who was *always* intended to be mainly a children's program. That's why it's aired on the BBC at around 6pm on the weekends.
I’ve been watching Doctor Who for over half my life now and I’ll say you’re in for a ride. This episode is the beginning of what the fandom refers to as NuWho and a perfect place to start. From this episode you’ll notice that yes, this doctor - fresh out of war has this attitude but at the core the doctor is the same person but it depends what you’ll get out of them wherever they are in their story. You’ll get attitude, arrogance, rage, but you’ll get everything else too. One thing about being The Doctor, it requires range. You noticed with Ncuti, his first episode he’s an outgoing, optimistic sort on that first meeting with Ruby compared to Rose but he’s got time to get there. Also Whovians have a fantastic ability to supply information without needing to divulge big spoilers so this is the fandom to ask but with 60 years of content across multiple mediums don’t get too stuck on a fixed set canon, things change and in cases time can be rewritten.
Enjoyed your first reaction to this. First time watching. I don't know if you watch any other british science fiction sort of stuff, but I'm gonna suggest you also check out Life on Mars followed by its sequel Ashes to Ashes. Both are named for Bowie Songs. It's a crime science fiction show.
This is season 1 of NuWho i often refer to this as Season 27 because i see Classic and NuWho combined and the same show. It's actually a revival not a reboot because this basically picks up where the classic series and the 96 tv movie take off but this time with the newly regenerated 9th Doctor (Christopher Eccleston).
It's interesting Rekkai points out there's a political angle on the alien threat, insofar as it can be read as a satire on our world's dependence on plastic. Bang on: the aliens in this episode come from the original series, having made two prior appearances in Doctor Who in 1970 and 1971, created by Robert Holmes, usually considered the GOAT of original series writers. The political satire angle on plastic use was very much part of the original idea. Russell used these aliens because he thought they were perfect for re-introducing Who just in narrative terms, so this political angle was kind of an inheritance from the 70s that came along with them. Russell really runs with it though. It seems to me he writes Doctor Who with a strong sense of political satire of his own, as I think you will see later in this series when we get to satirical takes on, for example, modern politicians, war, and the power of news media.
“Mr. Steal Your Girl” is very spot on for the Doctor. Plus, this is season 1 but old who had a season 1 back in the day, and the Disney + Who that is coming is going to be season 1 too.
24:38 😂😂I mean, in the Doctor's defense, Mickey had _just_ call him a 'thing' right before he said Mickey wasn't invited. But don't worry, even if Mickey's mostly comic relief in the beginning, he gets his fair share of character development later on.
The essential core of the character is constant, however the 'outer clothing' characterization - the personality - can vary quite substantially. Also memories between incarnations can be sublimated or vague, some things carry over that are most important, some however get lost. The Doctor is an imperfect and sometimes wayward hero, just as the TARDIS itself which has the same faults. The reference to JFK is significant in that the very first story, An Unearthly Child, was broadcast on the 23rd November 1963, the day after his assassination in Texas. The Autons - the plastic creatures - were first shown in the four part serialized adventure - as they were all back in the classic era - called Spearhead From Space and was the very first story which starred Jon Pertwee as the third incarnation of The Doctor. Christopher Eccleston is the ninth.
Hi, new subscriber here from the UK! Glad you enjoyed your first Doctor Who story of the 2005 reboot! As you will come to see with new versions of the Doctor (and those from classic Who), the Doctor can be whimsical, funny, silly but he also has a serious side and is very moralistic and always on the side of what’s good and right! As season 1 progresses, you will learn more about this particular Doctor, and what happened to him during the Time War (which ended before he came to Earth and met Rose), and you can see how battle scarred and lost he is from it. His journey with Rose starts his healing process and makes him feel more “human” again, and in turn the Doctor shows Rose the wonder of different worlds and what it is to really “live!” So in that context I wouldn’t say the Doctor is smug or smarmy, but being with Rose enables him to regain a bit of confidence in himself and marvel at the universe again, seeing it all through Rose’s eyes! I don’t think subsequent Doctor actors after Eccleston could have portrayed the grief and hurt as well as he did, and for that reason Chris was an inspired choice to play this first new Doctor in this reboot series! In the 15th Doctors case, things transpire during his predecessor’s time (Doctor 14), which allows this new Doctor to clear the decks of all the angst and guilt, and free himself up to enjoy himself again! If you take it in that context, you can see why Doctors 9 and 15 are so different!
I love Doctor Who and am excited to see y’all watch this journey. My favorite Doctor is 12 (Capaldi) with 10 just right behind. This is the 9th Doctor and he’s fantastic. Do y’all plan to watch the whole show? Since the revival, it’s been on for a very long time and that’s a lot of episodes. I hope you are willing to watch it all. I’ll be here with you! Your commentary is entertaining and I love that you’re actually engaging with the show.
18:17 Once a person has travelled and fought beside the Doctor it totally changes their lives and perspective. Many can’t go back to a regular life after they have saved the world multiple times. Nuff said.
Yes! You’re starting the journey. I know you mentioned you were thinking about it during the specials but didn’t expect it so soon. Glad you started here. Good place the start. The first few episodes are just ok to me. Picks up later in the season but this season as a whole is good for setting up the world and the characters. 26:19 they’ll get into why this doctor and others are the way they are later. But it’s good you picked up on the difference. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions to the series.
The show was orginally made in the 60s to be an educational tv show, teaching science and history. They noticed about 6-8 years in that the metaphysical episodes were getting better ratings, so they just leaned into that ever since. The Doctor as a character has definitely a different personality between the 60's and now. I have a personal project looking into this :)
@@nupefromdaville yeah! The first missing serial (episodes of the same story) was about Marco Polo 😁 there are also around 97 missing episodes in the classics.
Every Doctor is different. That is not a shift, every one has a different character trait. This Doctor has reasons to be a bit extreme, and Ncuti's Doctor does not because of things they both have gone through at different points of time. I don't think it's fair to say that based on one episode of each.
So true. Each actor brings something different. The storylines evolve. I am enjoying the current Doctor, but, at this point it is too early to judge Ncuti Gatwa,. So, excluding him, David Tennant is my favorite. I liked Peter Capaldi, also.
that other guy makes no sense. Of course Syntell has not watched it, but that dude having watched two episodes assumed that all doctor should be the same lol. Without even knowing what Christopher Eccleston's Doctor has gone through@@deemo7868
Jaded Doctor from the time war, this is the 9th Doctor and his personality is moulded by his experiences. The 8th Doctor (Paul McGann) was in the 90's movie, 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) ended the run in 1989 which started with the 1st Doctor (William Harnel, later also played by Richard Hurndall and David Bradley) in 1963. Each incarnation has a different personality. This is a soft reboot and continues the original series (the shop dummies in this episode are a call back to stories in the 1970's). The 60th Anniversary specials before Ncuti's first full ep (the xmas special you have seen) were a second soft reboot. I would say you are doing this is the right order for you guys as the 1963 series could be hard going for anyone not 1. British or 2. alive in the 60s... and the BBC don't actually have all the episodes any more. I jumped on with the 4th & 5th Doctor and the 1st - 3rd Doctor stuff is a little hard going for me due to the massive gulf in production eras. I would personally recommend watching the 2005 soft reboot through until you catch up. Then between the "new" season 1 on Disney + (with Ncuti) and the 2024 xmas special, sample some of the best of the original series - maybe a couple of stories from each doctor just to see if there are runs you do want to see as each Doctor is quite distinct. The community will suggest epsiodes when you are ready but expect things like "The ", "The 10th Planet", "Genesis of the ", "Caves of Androzani" and "Remembrance of the ". Episode 6 of Chris Ecclestone's run will fill in the redacted bits for you :)
THank you for your reaction videos - hey, fun one, you are two charismatic dudes to hang out with, looks like I will be back . Wishing you much enjoyment of the Timey-wimey adventures of Mr Steal-your-girl. (And hey dont forget this is a "Family" tv show, so yeah, occassionally its a bit for-the-kids... but when its good, its excellent)... tthe series really picks up when you get to the Empty Child/The Doctor Dances two parter, recommend you give it until then. (p.s. Each Doctor has a different personality)
This doctor has just come out of the great time war, which had lasted 100 years, where he had to destroy all of his own people along with their enemies in order to stop the war. So he is supposed to be grumpy and angry at himself. The 14th doctor has a long break and goes through a sort of recovery which allows Scutti's doctor to be more fun and happy. Glad you're enjoying DW.
I’m only just getting to this but beans on toast is definitely the UK version of a PB&J. Like it’s quick but filling snack you’d have if you needed a quick breakfast or lunch.
Yooooo! Welcome to the Whoniverse! It’s so much fun and wholesome and full of good cheese! I can’t wait to take this adventure with you guys. I’ve been in need of a rewatch. This Doctor is Nine and he’s a great place to start. My favorite is Ten and Fifteen has the potential to take that spot.
I love your doctor who reactions, I'll be watching! Found you from the recent Christmas special. You will probably love this doctor more in the end. I started watching Doctor Who in 2015, started with this episode/doctor. :D
I am personally very happy you guys are watching the doctor, because it was my favorite show at the time and growing up. The 4th is my doctor and yeah he's a bit full of himself but it's definitely not false bravado. The special effects are sometimes campy (mainly as homage to it's roots), but they excel at practical effects. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🖖😎👍
Great observations about the attitudes of Eccleston vs Gatwa -- there is a reason for the difference through the plot progression. Stick with it! You have 5 (or 4-1/2) Doctors to meet before then, though. But you can do it! Each is very different, and if there are ones you think you don't like, I predict they'll grow on you. Have fun! I've subscribed. (I always subscribe to Doctor Who, Scientology, and Ren channels. My weaknesses.)
- This is not a reboot, but continuation of the adventures of the past doctors. While there will be quite a few references (and reoccurring characters and enemies), you can watch this without having seen the old show from the 60s. - The original series was planned as an educational show for a younger audience, wherein the Dcotor travels to different eras of primarily Earth's past, but it grew beyond that. - There are some spin-offs, targeted towards differents age groups (The Sarah Jane Adventures => kids; Torchwood => adults; Class => teens)
7:08 This version of the Doctor is fresh from a war that so he is a bit raw. But suffice it to say the Doctor has seen some things. Also as a Time Lord, the Doctor’s perception of reality is much different than normal people.
He actually encountered the mannequin alien before in the 70s and they look a great deal the same except for the alien controlling them. Most likely he came up with the anti-plastic after his previous battle.
Something that Doctor Who did/does, that is so, so smart, is the way they set up regeneration. Each new Doctor, while the same being at their core, is really an entirely new person. This allows each new actor the freedom to really interpret the character in their own way without the expectation of being an exact replica of their predecessor and I believe it’s what has enabled the show to run as long as it has. In fact, some of my favorite episodes of each regeneration is their first, where we get to watch the new Doctor basically meet themselves. Now, while Eccleston is one of my least favorites, his Doctor is crucial to reintroducing us to the world of Doctor Who. He effectively and efficiently gives us all of the information we need without having to go forward with them on this journey, without having to watch Classic Who. He really sets the stage in this season for all of the Doctors that come after him to thrive.
Yeah, you don't need to watch back 40+ years of baggage of this series. This 2005 soft reboot with Christopher Eccleston is a perfect start for newcomers. Of course there will be trash episodes that don't have much to do with the story of the plot. But there are also pure gem episodes. episode 6 Dalek is where you will get hooked. Season 1-4 were the golden age of Doctor who. I quit after Matt Smith took over, since I notice the difference in quality. Nothing against the bloke, he can act. I think maybe because it was becoming more mainstream during that time. I hope this helps folks.
Hi guys good take on this episode. Dr who is for the whole family to gather round and watch . The BBC own the rights to it and they don't have huge somes of money to be chucking at the show . It is getting better now budget has gone up . Cant wait for you to see Gas mask episode
Small correction no one else seems to be making, this came out in 2005 not 2006. Without going too deep into stuff not revealled yet from your perspective, the Doctor mentions having fought in "The War", that was very recent for him, effectively he's a shell shocked veteran, which is part of why his is the way he is.
I had no idea y'all were going to watch this! This is the first Doctor I ever watched and I've been obsessed ever since! I cannot WAIT to watch this with y'all. It's campy and cheesy and an absolute blast to watch! I'm so excited!!!!
We were just as excited too.
We're sending in our application to become an official Whovian

It's not a reboot, it's a return. This is the same Doctor who was on TV in the 60's 70's and the 80's movie. This is the 9th version of the same person. He dies, his body changes. Same memories, new body, new personality for the most part. This 2005 return was a gamble because DW hadn't been on TV for a long time. They do a full intro for new watchers to the universe.

Same as they say NuWho Season 5 is a 'soft-reboot' or the latest special is another 'soft-reboot': it's not discounting the previous material, but it's a good jumping on point.
Shit. I JUST made a comment about this myself before I saw this...
Hope it doesn't hurt to be told twice... 😅
I knew from "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!" that I was going to love this show.
"I am LEARNING the vocabulary of ROPE!"
Careful 15, your 9 is showing.
Exactly! The character development is the thing. Without Eccleston's Doctor, there wouldn't have been anywhere for Tennant's Doctor to go, and so on, and so on.
Another difference is that Eccleston never insulted the fans. On the contrary.
Oh, I can't believe it's finally here. Just enjoy the journey and have a blast. By the time you are caught up,, I'm sure you'll want to watch Classic Who too. I'm with you all the way for this journey. Love you guys!!!
Can't wait! This looks like it's going to be a fun journey. So happy to have you along with us.
Doctor Who is one continuous story from the first episode (An Unearthly Child) to the most recent episode (The Church on Ruby Road), but it's split into 3 main eras:
Doctor Who "Classic Who" (1963-1989)
Doctor Who "Revival Who" (2005-2023)
Doctor Who "Disney Who" (2024-)
Rose is the start of Revival Who and is considered the best starting point for new fans, but I would recommend watching some of the classic show once you get use to it.
Ohhh, so glad that you’ve started Doctor Who! Looking forward to watching your reactions
Can't wait!
We hope you enjoy it.
@@Syntell yeah, i realise it's tricky 😀
But it is the right jumping on point i think and it's designed to be.
@@palisade32luckily the specials are all lumped in with their respective seasons on HBO Max. They will need help with the minisodes though
"he's as soft as soft serve" Mickey GROWS a lot in the series... it takes some time but in the end, well let's say you'll be impressed
I am always happy to join people in their journey through space and time.
Can't wait! It's been a long time coming.
Yes, he definitely does. Despite the fact that the actor did some shitty stuff, the character Micky is one of my favorites for his arc of growth and change.
This is where the fun begins!!!! I used to love the Doctor Who series back in high school! So glad you guys are reacting to this classic! 🙏🏽💪
You are in a very interesting situation where you know where The Doctor is headed, so you get to experience the mystery of where Ncuti's doctor comes from.
The show is definitely made with kids in mind and walks a tightrope between being for kids and for adults. This is going to be a ride!
I mean that's everyone's experience unless they started with An Unearthly Child.
What’s great is Doctor Who. You can watch any episode knowing the basics.
This is very insightful! Thanks!
He literally was after the end of the Time War, so I don't blame him.
Did they sht on Eccleston and praise that woke garbage, or did I imagine that?
Nine was like broken glass, emphasis on the "broken" part.
The Christmas special produced a Christmas miracle - Ncuti united the fandom 😂
I'm so happy to hear that someone's fav is 13.
The hexagon wall decor is on-point for watching Who!
Welcome to my world! I have been a Doctor Who fan since the mid-seventies 😊👍
Great watch! Thanks for uploading!
Our pleasure!
More to come
I was at a really bad place in my life when I found this show.
Ahh it's been so many years since I've last watched DW I just got hit by a huge wave of nostalgia
I'm looking forward to experiencing it again through your reactions!
There is the 1996 story "Who Killed Kennedy' (by David Bishop) with the Third Doctor also.
Wow! I just saw someone start their journey not even a whole day ago. Now it's your turn 😅
Awesome series to pick up, I am looking forward to your reactions.
Subbed ! They just get better and better
I love it. Thanks! Can't wait!
“Mr. Steal Your Girl” is very spot on for the Doctor. Plus, this is season 1 but old who had a season 1 back in the day, and the Disney + Who that is coming is going to be season 1 too.
I stand by the fact that the 9th Doctor was the best introduction to DW. I love the 15th Doctor acting but the writing needs to get on this level.
"He has one constant companion." "Who's that?" *Crunchyroll ad plays*
I’ve been watching your Percy Jackson reviews, but starting up with the Doctor?!?! You have my sub and my full attention. Enjoy the ride!!!
This is such an excellent comment! I will remember to shout this comment out on the 3rd episode.
Love Eccleston, he brought a more working class feel to the Doctor, compared to the original, and played a post-war Doctor.
18:17 Once a person has travelled and fought beside the Doctor it totally changes their lives and perspective. Many can’t go back to a regular life after they have saved the world multiple times. Nuff said.
Didn't know if you were going to do this, so glad you did . Digging what you giving!!!!
Your reactions are a lot of fun to watch. Look forward to seeing you watch through the show. It's good stuff. Cheers.
Did not know that. Interesting!
Omg yes! I'll be watching every reaction.
RE: Ncuti, the Doctor is on a journey. The Doctor's been through some stuff and, as a result, has evolved here and there.
Yesss! I am so happy that you're starting this!
Beans on toast is exactly what it says.
The show just gets better and better... season after season.... the effects too
I’m only just getting to this but beans on toast is definitely the UK version of a PB&J.
great video!! y'all had me in stitches, im excited to see what you think of the next episode!!
ive been looking for someone to react to this!! Good thing I found you guys right at the start.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🖖😎👍
Im honestly so excited for this
Haven’t watched the new dr at all yet so interesting to see your first impressions of Ncuti!
You guys just might make me rewatch Doctor.
Can’t wait till The Empty Child. That was the episode that got me started.
That and Blink.
Ahhh ok. This is a great continuation so far.
Stick with it guys, you're gonna get so invested in one way or another. Ncuti is the Disney+ Doctor, the show is now a reboot of the reboot.
TARDIS. The Doctor's Granddaughter named it that. That is in the very first episode of Dr. Who, "The Unearthly Child."
I loved this reaction! Fun fact: the name TARDIS was invented by the Doctor's granddaughter Susan.
Welcome to the TARDIS, guys! Really excited to watch this with y'all. Just found your channel because of this video.
Allons-y🎉
Ah... Ms Tyler... such a character, but the actress is a sweetheart.
To be fair, this doctor hasn't mellowed from some things, yet.
Oh, The Doctor is definitely Mr/Ms Steal Your Girl! And sometimes, Mr/Ms Steal Your Man!
I hope this helps folks.
you should definitely watch the moffat era, it's just as great.
Hi guys good take on this episode. Dr who is for the whole family to gather round and watch . The BBC own the rights to it and they don't have huge somes of money to be chucking at the show . It is getting better now budget has gone up . Cant wait for you to see Gas mask episode
HEINZ beans on toast is great
total comfort food
I can't wait to watch another set of reactors to this fantastic show!
2005 not 2006. I started Doctor Who in 1998 my very first Doctor was the 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) and my favourite.
Small correction no one else seems to be making, this came out in 2005 not 2006.
Without going too deep into stuff not revealled yet from your perspective, the Doctor mentions having fought in "The War", that was very recent for him, effectively he's a shell shocked veteran, which is part of why his is the way he is.
i love this show so much
I thought I was never going to have the pleasure of watching someone react to Doctor Who/NuWho 2005- again!😭
