I speak about this in the outro, but I don't think many people watch up to that point as I'm getting a LOT of comments about the Christmas Special and Born Again Minisode so I wanted to write it here so everyone is aware 😊 The next episode is the Christmas Special at the same time as normal. Before then, as a bonus episode, will be the minisode. So yes, don't worry! They are both coming and on the way 💜 Thank you to everyone for sharing so much time with me over the course of this first, and FANTASTIC, season. Here's to many more 🥰
The next dr is David tennant (he played a baddie in a Harry Potter movie) his time in the role brought the show to its very peak in terms of ratings and awards, its also the beginning of its rapid expansion into the USA... finally, it was so popular at this time, it spawned many spin off shows in which the Dr occasionally appeared, Dr who confidential, torchwood, Sarah jane adventures and totally Dr who.... it was also the start of the Dr who proms at the Albert Hall, where actors of the show introduce the music from the show and during the music, aliens emerged and walked amongst the audience...
It's a shame you were spoiled about this being Eccleston's last episode - and the fact that there even are other Doctors. I guess it's something so fundamental to the show that a lot of people don't even see it as a spoiler. But good to know the minisode and Christmas special are on your radar.
Chris was my first doctor. I was a mess when he regenerated. As much as I love David's doctor it's just sad to think what Chris could have done in the role if things hadn't turned out the way they did.
Every “era” of Doctor Who is someone’s favourite, but for every new era to begin a previous incarnation has to end. As a fan you need to accept that. In fact, I think the absolutely committed fan should revel in that. Doctor Who is a show which not only survives change, it’s powered by change.
@@CaseyTyler357 No, I definitely mean seven, the guy who brought Ace to the location of one of her most traumatic childhood experiences. He started off ok, but they quickly started writing him as dark and brooding with little compassion for anyone.
Fun fact about the episode title: "The parting of the ways" is the chapter in Harry Potter 4 where Barty Crouch Jr dies. Played by David Tennant. "The parting of the ways" is the episode where Doctor 10 appears. Played by David Tennant.
You will definitely miss Eccleston, but you've got so much to look forward to with Tennant. You are right, he is definitely the same person, with the same memories, same experiences, but what you will notice is that the personality does change somewhat. Don't get me wrong, the Doctor is always the Doctor. What we love about the Doctor at the core remains, but you'll start to see a different side to this character each time he regenerates into a new body.
@@julesreacts Perhaps. :P To be clear, this isn't spoilers for any of the show you're likely to watch, but that idea was teased back in an 80s story. But no, the Doctor is always a good person at their fundamental core.
@@julesreacts This might amuse you... about twenty years ago (before Doctor Who was relaunched) it was a popular theory among some fans that the school library in Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in fact a TARDIS, and that Giles was a Time Lord...
"I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself" Rose is kind of scary when she's all-powerful. And so passes the Ninth Doctor. He was the first Doctor I experienced and will always hold a special place in my heart. But now David Tenet is here as the Tenth Doctor and we're in for a wild ride. I can't wait! Allons-y!
I wonder if Rose was conscious of the things she was saying in that moment? Does she remember? I love Christopher as well. He seemed so happy. It was such a joyful part he played, but I also found him to have a perfect hidden "creepy" side, too. Onto the next Doctor!
@@julesreacts I don't think she remembered all she'd done which was why they left Jack. It's not a minisode but a short thing where they have a little conversation after this which they did for a charity telethon called 'Children in Need' you should watch before the Xmas show.
@@julesreacts Not sure if you've Patreoned this and heard all about it already.... Christopher has said firstly that he struggled with the characterisation of the Doctor that RTD and the production team expected of him - he wanted to play it a bit darker, but they wanted more "light comedy". He found that to be a big struggle for him, as if you've ever seen Christopher in anything else... he's typically quite dark! (Bad guy in Gone in Sixty Seconds, Bad guy in 28 Days Later, police detective in Cracker...) He has also said he was fighting anorexia whilst filming the show, as well as having major issues with the production team. So - as I said in another post, whilst I was really upset that he left the show, because a) he was a great Doctor, and b) I hated that the mythology was "losing" a Doctor so fast) - I'm glad he got out when he did rather than stay on.
Regenerations are so unique to Doctor Who. No other show matches the emotional whiplash of a 'death' and introduction of a new protagonist in the span of a few seconds.
Especially the ingenious bit where they took the echoey "recording" sound off of it right at the end, so it sounded like he was standing right there in front of her.
"Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I." He truly was a fantastic Doctor! Christopher Eccleston was my first and forever will be my favourite Doctor. He's such a nice man, I remember meeting him as a kid when he came over to my house for tea. Even though he only had one season, he will always be remembered for jump-starting Doctor Who again and making way for the actors to come.
The doctor personality changes a little, but what you you will notice is it isn't just a random change, the 9th doctor was plagued with PTSD from the time war , you probably noticed how dark he was , in the episode the end of the world and in boom town The 10th doctor personality was result of the doctor starting healing because of rose
One of the hardest jobs of being a Dr. Who fan is the transitions from one Doctor to the next. While each has a different personality, they are always great to watch. Btw. Doctor #10, David Tennant, will be a blast to watch and delivers a wider range of emotions.
The arc that 9 goes through in just one season is unmatched imo. We see him hit with the same situation he went through in the Time War bit when it looks like he'll have to sacrifice his second home he refuses to. Rose saved him both literally and figuratively.
This is the 5 stages we all go through and baring in mind we had to wait months before watching the next series and not see the next series straight away. 1. Sadness of the Doctor that we've just lost 2. Resent the new Doctor before their first episode appearance 3. Watch the first 2 or 3 episodes thinking about the previous Doctor 4. Accept the new Doctor and watch their time in the Tardis 5. See them die and go back to sadness again
@@julesreacts you will see Captain Jack by series but there is a spinoff show with him (not saying the name) between series 2 and series 3 of Doctor Who
These last two episodes of the Ninth are very emotional, even today. Don't forget the xmas specials! "The Christmas Invasion" takes on straight after the events of this episode and is the first story with David Tennant as the Doctor. Great reaction Jules. So glad you are enjoying this franchise.
she can also watch the children in need mini-sode they made before the Christmas invasion its called: Doctor Who Born Again Children in Need Special 2005
@@julesreacts Yes, I was going to mention this also, You need to watch The Christmas Invasion before the official Episode 1 of season 2 or you'll be left scratching your head.
Oh RTD, never met an endearing supporting character he wouldn't kill! But what a wonderful finale this is. It still holds up perfectly all these years later. Just a fantastic season.
doctor 9 often gets overlooked, but to me he is the best of them all. Him, rose, russel t and ste mo revived the Doctor for our generation and i love them all for that 💗
The Daleks are the Doctor's oldest enemies. They were introduced in episode 2 in 1963. They will never be completely gone. It would be like Batman without the Joker.
@@julesreacts Glad you enjoyed it. Fun Fact: The final scene where the Doctor is explaining to rose that he's gonna change and "before he goes", both Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper weren't even on set at the same time, Chris regenerating into David was done much later after the BBC announced they had green lit series 2.
Your not the only one! I tend to get very emotional whenever the Doctor regenerates too🥺 What a fantastic episode, I like how it gives a good idea of how powerful the Tardis can truly be. Your reactions have been awesome and am so happy your enjoying the series! Your in for a wild ride!🌌
Now look what you've done - you've made me cry, too. Really though, I've enjoyed watching your reaction to this show. When it first aired, I watched it with two friends, one of whom was also an Aussie woman about the same age as you are, and neither of which had ever seen a Doctor Who episode before. Myself, I've been a fan since I was a wee lad (in 1980!), but this version of the show was very different from what had gone before, so it was completely new for all of us and we loved it. It brings me a great joy to see someone experience it for the first time and have such a thoughtful, intelligent and sometimes emotional reaction to it. Your editing is terrific, your comments are spot-on and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of the next Doctor (for the record, my Aussie friend quit watching after Christopher Eccleston left because she felt he couldn't be replaced!). All the best, and keep up the good work!
The transition of the doctor not only depends on the new Doctors performance, but the performance of Rose. She has to reflect the audiences reaction, so at first she's not used to him, and treats him like a stranger, then gradually his personality and actions proves to her, and the audience, that yes he is indeed the same Doctor.
One of the wonderful things about this show which has been going since 1963 is that there have been so many actors playing the Doctor in their own way. Every Doctor is the same character, but they all have their own personalities and quirks. And every fan of the show has their own favourite Doctor - it's often the first one they saw.
Eccleston and Tennant are my favorite Doctors. Love what both bring to the show. Can't wait for your reaction to the next episodes and everything this new Doctor brings. Love these types of episodes and how emotional they are. Was crying myself by the end. The ones where he changes always do. Rose is awesome. As always, love joining you on this rollercoaster.
I've got to say it, this is one of the best Doctor who reactions on RUclips, up there with FilmBuff. Thank you for allowing me to re-experience Doctor Who through you're eyes, it's the closest I'll be able to get to watching it for the first time again. And definitely don't worry, you're going to love 10 :)
I hope it wasn't the comments that spoiled that this was Christopher Eccleston's final episode. It drives me mad that there are people who comment on reaction videos just because they want to show off that they know more than the reactor. A LOT of tears were shed during this reaction! I feel bad for you but at the same time, emotions are why we watch reaction videos. :) I'm glad you reassured us that you know about the minisode and the Christmas special too. The order can get confusing sometimes.
Awww thank you!! Yeah, sadly there were many comments about the next doctor. Even now, before we get into the next season, I've seen people talk about FUTURE doctors in the comments to this video 😥 I try and delete them, and I have lovely moderators as well who work hard to delete comments, but I guess unless I ignore the comments section, someone will inevitably say something 😭 Thank you so much for watching the bit where I talk about the minisode and Christmas Special! You're AWESOME!! I've had so many comments about it but I think a lot of people just either don't watch, or watch just the bit they want to see 😅 One day I might do a secret thing in the middle of the video, a special code word for people to write in the comments HAHA Have an awesome day 🤗💜
It’s been such a wonderful journey to watch you watching this first series through fresh eyes, feels like I’m getting to re experience it all over again
This is such a fantastic way to cap of the first season of the reboot. Chris is an amazing Doctor and when he sends Rose away and says "Have a good life, Rose, have a fantastic life" I always tear up. I do sometimes have mixed feelings about Rose - she's a great character but somewhat insensitive to other people when she's focused of TARDIS/Doctor stuff. Having said that, the Bad Wolf scene with her channelling the heart of the TARDIS is brilliant. And yay for you seeing your first regeneration scene. Farwell to Chris Ecclestone, he's been fantastic and I'm sure you're going to enjoy David Tennant just as much. Each actor brings something different to the role, but are also super respectful to keep the core of the Doctor the same, so you are in safe hands. I've loved how much you've loved this season, Jules. And I'm glad you know about the Christmas specials as the next episode is The Christmas Invasion - fun times.
Your reaction to this was everything. Eccleston was a fantastic Doctor and it's sad he left due to issues with the higher ups at the time. But he is also doing Big Finish Audio Doctor Who stories as his Doctor for events that don't happen on screen in his run, which is nice because he was such a wonderful Doctor.
@@julesreacts you’re welcome. I hope you listen to Eccleston on Big Finish audio in your off time. He deserves his love for bringing this show back. He thinks he wasn’t a good doctor and it’s like he need to be hugged and told he was amazing.
Helo o Gymru! Hello from Wales! I live pretty close to where these are filmed. It's awesome to see someone so emotionally invested in the series. I haven't been a subscriber for long, but your passion for these shows is awesome to see!
Thank you so much, Amelius! I'm so glad you're enjoying the episodes 💜 I don't think I knew the episodes were filmed in Wales. That's very cool ☺️ I have heard a bit of the Welsh language and it's lovely!
I have a friend who was a little girl in 1963, when the first Doctor regenerated. Back then of course nobody knew it was happening, no internet, no leaks. They knew the actor was changing, but not how. She says her entire family (who loved Dr Who) were standing in their living room, watching their favourite "cranky grandfather" getting sick and obviously dying. Then, suddenly, he was shorter, younger, completely different. They went mad. It is estimated that about 80% of the ENTIRE TELEVISION AUDIENCE in Britain (at the time) tuned in to the next episode to find out what the HELL had happened. It's the blessing and the curse of the Whovians. (we fans that is) Everything changes, and everything stays the same. As film guru Leonard Malten once wrote. "Regeneration is the single most brilliant concept ever conceived in any movie, tv show or story telling of any kind"
I honestly love your reactions because they are so genuine and you really buy into what they are showing you in these episodes. I love the passion you have its really nice
Brave heart, Jules. Our first Doctor is always special. That will never change, but enjoy getting to know the other Doctors too. It is a wonderful journey. :)
The regeneration started back in the 60's when the first Doctor left the series but the BBC still wanted to keep the show as it was doing so well. They then made a decision that there were only so many regenerations that each timelord could go through, they gave a high number thinking the show would never last that long.
There's a big chance someone else mentioned it but if you want to know what happens with Captain Jack, then you should watch Torchwood! Its a more adult spinoff of Doctor Who that follows some of Jack's adventures. Season 1 of Torchwood happens after Doctor Who S1 and before S3 Episode 11. And Season 2 of Torchwood happens during S4 of Doctor Who, up until S4E12 where they cross over again! Its obviously not necessary to enjoy Doctor Who but its some additional good stories and very dear to my heart haha.
This was an amazing finale, the emotion of the regeneration and the way it was handled, saying what needed to be said and then it was done. Brilliantly executed. No matter how good Tennant is in the role, I still miss Eccleston. When I first heard about the casting, Billie Piper was to me just a pop singer, and he was the last person I thought would ever be the Time Lord, and I thought 'no way this is going to work'. I was very happy to be wrong and fall in love with the show all over again. One line did it for me; lots of planets have a north in the first episode. That was when I knew the Doctor was back. As for the next series? It's going to be brilliant.
I’ve loved watching these with you. Seeing your deeply honest, emotional reactions made me feel like I was watching the episodes myself for the first time. You were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
Just a point, since you asked about Jack. The Doctor doesn't know he was brought back to life. Jack was elsewhere in the station, and Rose just said "I bring life." Rose may know somewhere in her memory, but she might not. Having the heart of the Tardis inside her head really screwed with her, she might not remember much.
ahh. this episode ☹ i really wish christopher had more time as the doctor because he was SO enjoyable ((and fun fact he is SCARILY similar to my dad. almost his twin)). now i went into this show _completely_ blind. had no idea this was a reboot, had no idea the doctor could regenerate so i genuinely thought he was dying. i was terrified of the new doctor because you gain an attachment to the previous one and "no one can top him!" and they always go out SO emotionally !!! really pulls at your heart strings. god. im glad you enjoyed it and bawled just as much as i did. truly a remarkable episode
This is by far the least Doctor-centric Doctor Farewell episodes, and it's my absolute favourite of all of them. The end came so suddenly, I had no idea it was even coming when I saw it the first time. I didn't even know about regenerations, so it was really shocking for me.
The sadness of saying goodbye to one Doctor, mixed with the excitement and trepidation about meeting the next; it's a lot! Thanks so much, these have been so lovely to watch 💕.
People often missed the implicstion they lied about the weapons being able to stop darleks. Jack knew they would not but they needed to slow the Darleks down anyway
Each Doctor has his own personal style, but they all share a certain essential Doctor-ness, which started with William Hartnell in 1963. They’re all well-meaning, eccentric, and at times playful; and the actors can’t avoid these attributes even if they wanted to, because they're generally written into the script. The scripts have been written by a lot of different writers and edited by a series of different script editors, but they usually seem to have a fairly consistent idea of the sort of person the Doctor is supposed to be. And I think the character of the Doctor has always been fundamentally the main attraction of the show. Each new Doctor has his or her personal style and plays the character a bit differently, in the same way that the part of Hamlet has been played in different ways by many different actors, but he remains Hamlet.
Have seen all the Doctors regenerate and it's hard to say goodbye to them because you get attached to them through out their time as the Doctor. Each one brings something unique to the role of the Doctor. The hardest one to say goodbye too, I think, was Tom Baker because he played the Doctor for 7 years, longer than anyone in that role. Also you should check out the 4th Doctor(Tom Baker) especially with Sara Jane Smith, I think you will enjoy her as a companion.
This episode was actually the first one I ever saw. The one which started it all for me. I walked in on my step brothers while they were watching it the night it was broadcast and I became intrigued. The rest of that year I kept rewatching the episode on a taped VHS video until I almost knew the script off by heart. On Christmas day that year in 2005 I was given the newly released DVD set and watched them all from the start. Still to this day this series of Doctor Who has remained my favorite with my favorite Doctor, Favorite Companion and Favorite stories.
Eccleston deserved a little longer but I also hear he was tired of it and until recently he didn't really have anything to do with it after he left. Tennant truly is the perfect replacement though.
Hey Jules! It's incredible how awesome this episode is! The Parting of the Ways is still in my top 5 of favorite episodes of all time. It's so bittersweet. 😢❤ Congrats on your first season. 🤗
Best regeneration scene to date in modern who imo, perfect amount of sadness without going ott like future ones do, and no long drawn out meta speeches. Also, the daleks have never been better than they were in this story
I always cry when watching this episode! Plus others, like Father's Day. Doctor Who writers have a way of pulling us through many emotions, sometimes in the same minute lol. One of the (many) reasons I love it! 🥰
YES! Your reaction to this episode was perfect. You give such genuine reactions that no one else really give! I’m so excited to see you react to series 2 and beyond, it only gets better as the show goes on!
Congratulations, Juliette! Your first regeneration. The first is always the hardest. You've heard of the 5 stages of grief? I've always thought there should be a "5 stages of grief after a Doctor regenerates"😉 Fans get attached to the Doctor and it can be difficult to accept both that one is gone and that another has replaced him. Sometimes fans can initially be hard on the new Doctor because he's not yet "our" Doctor and we compare and contrast and feel the new guy isn't up to snuff. Also, we miss the old one. However, we almost always come around to loving the new Doctor, until it's HIS time to regenerate and we get those sad feelings again and the cycle continues But, yes, one never forgets their first Doctor😊
Yep that's explained.
I had never watched Doctor Who before this new series 1 with Chris Eccleston, so it was quite the moment when he changed. I knew it was coming because I knew that's how the Doctor worked, but it still was hard saying goodbye to this Doctor. Eccleston is highly underrated, and I LOVE him most especially in this episode. When he tells Rose she's been fantastic, and that you know what, the Doctor's been fantastic too? I get all teary. I also love when Rose shows up after having looked into the heart of the Tardis. With her glowing eyes and epic voice and speech to the Daleks... it gives me chills every time. "I can see the whole of time and space. Every single atom of your existence, and I divide them." CHILLS. Side note: I haven't read all the comments here yet, but I'm assuming someone must have already explained that the Doctor and Rose don't know that Jack is alive? At least, that's how I always took it. He was in a different part of the station, and the last thing the Doctor heard was his death at the declaration of the Daleks, so I think he thinks Jack is dead like everyone else. I don't think they realized that Rose brought Jack back. So they left, and they essentially left Jack stranded there on the station by himself. Which is super sad. I felt so bad for him. (But I was also super relieved that he survived, because he was fun and I liked him. I didn't want him to die.) Can't wait to see your reaction to the new Doctor! ❤
Thank you, Sherry 💜 it was a beautiful episode, and so sad to say goodbye to doctor 9 😢 he was brilliant! Oh yes, a few people explained that they didn't know Jack was alive. I guess I thought Rose knew, but she was influenced by other things at the time, so when she went back to normal, maybe she didn't know 😔
Yeah, regeneration usually happen right the end of the episode so we get to see the new Doctor then. Giving us a chance to dwell on this new face till the new season comes out. Or new episode depending on if the regen happens at the end of the season or not (usually it's the end of the season but not always). And yes, while The Doctor changes his face and facets of his personality upon regeneration, he does retain all his memories.
Of all the many episodes this is possibly in my top 5 still! The amazing but terrible moment of seeing a proper dalek army and the Emperor himself to the amazing exchanges between The Doctor and Rose, The Doctor and the Emperor and Rose and the Emperor. Not to mention the emergency program 1 scene. Then that ending scene is beautiful and sad all at once every time. Christopher Eccleston did A FANTASTIC job at bringing The Doctor into the 21st century.
What a great reaction to your first regeneration. It's a unique thing and I can't think of any other show that does such a thing. There will be Doctors you like more than others, and who the Head Writer/Producer ('Showrunner') is very influential in determining the tone of the show. But when everyone is on their game it doesn't matter who's what, the essence of the show and the character shine through. The same is true, of course, for reactors. You can't manufacture the emotion you showed in those final moments.
Welcome to what it truly means to be a Doctor Who fan. You never really forget your first regeneration. Once you get attached to that version of The Doctor, it's always sad to let them go but there's happiness too because each time you get something completely new. I admire your outlook, though. So many people dig their heels in and have trouble accepting change but are often surprised to find how much they fall in love with a new incarnation. Glad you're already open to possibilities.
Thank you SO much! I have to say I've watched a few episodes from season 2 and I never knew I'd be so accepting of a new doctor so quickly. I think it's one of those things you just have to let go of expectations and dive in with an open mind 💜
And here we go! Time for my favorite Doctor. This is David Tennant. For a more recent reference on his work, he's most recently been in Good Omens as the demon Crowley, and he's amazing in that, too.
The core traits of the Doctor never change, but certain abilities are pushed to the forefront, and certain personality traits shift a little with regeneration. But all the core memories and basic Doctor characteristics are in there. In the very first season of Doctor Who, way back in 1963, we see the Doctor develop the desire to help people, but his adventurous explorer nature was there from the first episode "An Unearthly Child".
its a wrap! thank you for reviewing this show :) this show is my literal childhood so getting to rewatch it with you and seeing ur excitement and emotions and overall thoughts on the show has warmed my heart, thank you. can't wait for season 2 reaction!!
Great season finale, a fitting end to send off Christopher Eccleston and a great reaction! Your first Doctors regeneration and the end of an era for you. We have all been through what you are going through, thinking this new Doctor won’t be as good as ‘your’ Doctor, but you are in good hands with the Tenth, he has some great adventures, can’t wait for you to get to know him. See you at the Christmas invasion!
Was surprised of how well Jules seemed to held it together for this episode. I most certainly did not when I watched the series some years back. But I did not have the magic of editing my view of the series either.
idk if anyone's mentioned this in the comments but jack ends up getting his own spin off series called torchwood after this so you don't see him for awhile (also have to say I am absolutely loving this series I am a massive doctor who fan an its great to see someone experience this incredible show for the first time)
I'd go further, and say watch the Doctor Who minisode from Children in Need 2005, "Born Again", first. It bridges the gap between this episode and _The_ _Christmas_ _Invasion._ Though from what Jules said, I think she's on it!
I remember the first time watching this through, as my experience landed me in the same boat as yourself only I had NOOO idea the Doctor regenerated. Recommended to me by a friend of mine to begin with Eccleston as the 9th to the 11th Doctor (which was at season 7 of NuWho at the time), where Doctor Who had been on a mild hiatus following the 87 cancellation and the 1995 film which attempted to bring it back, I was told I'd appreciate it more simply due to the initial 1963 "effects" of the show. I couldn't hold back a single tear watching this along with you. Doctor Who gets me EVERY TIME, and if you believe this finale was emotional or even it's share of episodes and interactions with the Doctor, your in for an exciting incredibly emotional journey in the TARDIS with us.
Because I got into the show late, I binged the series so fast that I couldn't say I formed a connection to the Doctors/actors enough (im being vague so date ranges don't spoil you). But from that point on I was watching along while it aired on TV and formed a connection to the current Doctor at the time and I took that regeneration hard. I still can't look at a screenshot of that episode and it's been quite a few years. So I can understand the sadness you feel. I've been doing a rewatch of the show. I'm excited to see how to react to future episodes
Ah, bit of a pity you were spoiled by knowing this was 9's last episode but still a lovely reaction. First regeneration under your belt, you're a proper 'Doctor Who' fan now :). (for info BTW, in case it's not clear, the mini-sodes are kind of extra scenes and stories that add flavour and background but the Christmas specials are technically part of the following series - the former are always worth watching but you don't really _need_ to see them but the latter are essential)
It is not well known, but the BBC only committed to one season,so the plan was always for Eccleston to die at the end. After the premiere and the show was a hit the BBC insisted Eccleston sign a new contract, but at the beginning of production he dad a huge falling out with his first director and then the producers. He refused to come back and then had a fight with the BBC. At the time the proders we're doing another miniseries called Casanova, which stared David Tennant, who was a huge fan of the old Dr. Who. The show runner asked Tennant to his home to see a rough cut of the episode, Dalek, and offered him the role if the show went to a second series.
Welcome officially to Doctor Who. This is the one show which never fails to break me, this episode in particular with Rose speaking about her dad, and that ending. The show has it's funny moments, it's cheesy moments, serious and dark moments but omg does it do the emotional moments like a cannonball shot to the gut. It's always best to have tissues on standby because you never know precisely when you'll need them. Christopher Eccleston will always be my Doctor, it's true what they say about your first lol, you never forget them. But this next Doctor is amazing in his own right and I'm sure you'll love him.
Your reaction to this whole first series was so pure and perfect. I'm glad that nearly 20 years on you can find so much joy and emotion in it as we have over these years. I look forward to you watching series 2!
Enjoyed watching your reactions to this. I haven't watched DrW in quite a while, this is a great way to get back into it. I'm glad RUclips suggested you. I loved Chris Eccleston (this Doctor) so much, very glad he was The Doctor. He was truly FANTASTIC!
Every regeneration is a death, and also a birth. It is heart-wrenching & tragic, but also exciting and new. The sun sets, and the new sun rises. December collapses, January begins. Every time, it gets to me. Did you notice how, in the first episode, the Doctor was looking at himself and commenting on how silly his ears were? I've always assumed that he had only recently had this body & face.
- "Noooo! The Doctor just died!!!" - "Ugh, I don't like that new Doctor." - "Okay, The Doctor gave a pretty chilling speech." - "Oh wauw, That Doctor is one of the best Doctors!!!!" - "Noooo! The Doctor just died!!!" - "Ugh, I don't like that new Doctor." - "Okay, The Doctor gave a pretty chilling speech." - "Oh wauw, That Doctor is one of the best Doctors!!!!" - "Noooo! The Doctor just died!!!" - "Ugh, I don't like that new Doctor." - "Okay, The Doctor gave a pretty chilling speech." - "Oh wauw, That Doctor is one of the best Doctors!!!!" - "Noooo! The Doctor just ..... well, you know the tune by now. Thank you for your sharing your first regeneration with us, we feast on your tears ... as we've been through it ourselves.
Congratulation on your first regeneration. You're now officially a Who veteran! Series 2 was my favourite, so I'm looking forward to you covering that along with the tenth Doctors first entry in the Xmas special.
Jules - watching your reaction broke my heart and I sobbed along with you. Be assured that Captain Jack lives to figh another day - in fact, he is the principle charater in Torchwood. Bit of housekeeping for you; Doctor Who has seasonal episodes too, so younext reaction needs to be the Christmas Day episode of 2006 entitled 'The Christmas Invasion'. I look forward to seeing you next week? Take care x
Every season finale of the New Doctor Who is always an emotional punch in the gut. And I keep coming back for more. Fun thing about the actor for the new Doctor (David Tennant): he used to write Dr. Who fan fiction as a kid, and wanted to become an actor so he could play the Doctor. He's probably my close second to Tom Baker (old Doctor Who, goofy guy with the absurd scarf).
The energy that allows a Time Lord to regenerate combined with the vortex caused him to dye. But since Rose doesn't posses that energy she was able to handle the vortex better.
Watching you experience this series for the first time has been so exciting. I was only 3 when I watched this when it was broadcast and therefore can't remember what it was like to see for the first time! I'm so glad you are enjoying what you've seen so far and I can't wait to follow this journey with you :)
This Finale is brilliant and the regeneration is everything, explaining it perfectly to new viewers like yourself. You will miss Chris but David is brilliant. Not only was Chris fantastic but you were too watching this series and reacting to it 💖 Can't wait to see you dive in S2 and potentially beyond 🥰
They are both coming and on the way 💜
Thank you to everyone for sharing so much time with me over the course of this first, and FANTASTIC, season. Here's to many more 🥰
Many Doctor Who adventures await you lol if you have a tissue box might want to keep it handy you'll need it
The next dr is David tennant (he played a baddie in a Harry Potter movie) his time in the role brought the show to its very peak in terms of ratings and awards, its also the beginning of its rapid expansion into the USA... finally, it was so popular at this time, it spawned many spin off shows in which the Dr occasionally appeared, Dr who confidential, torchwood, Sarah jane adventures and totally Dr who.... it was also the start of the Dr who proms at the Albert Hall, where actors of the show introduce the music from the show and during the music, aliens emerged and walked amongst the audience...
Back in classic Dr who it was hinted that each regeneration of the Dr is a different facet/personality trait of his time lord "whole"....
It's a shame you were spoiled about this being Eccleston's last episode - and the fact that there even are other Doctors. I guess it's something so fundamental to the show that a lot of people don't even see it as a spoiler.
But good to know the minisode and Christmas special are on your radar.
We all lose it when the doctor changes, every time. It's a testament to the quality of the show.
Chris was my first doctor. I was a mess when he regenerated. As much as I love David's doctor it's just sad to think what Chris could have done in the role if things hadn't turned out the way they did.
@@Alucia0 True :'/
Every “era” of Doctor Who is someone’s favourite, but for every new era to begin a previous incarnation has to end. As a fan you need to accept that. In fact, I think the absolutely committed fan should revel in that. Doctor Who is a show which not only survives change, it’s powered by change.
Oh yeah, although the end of the current era turns me into a blubbering mess the most. 10 to 11 is... very bittersweet.
It’s such a clever device!
When the Doctor regenerates his personality does change with his look. But the core of his personality, his Kindness remains.
Seven was kind of a dick, though.
@@StarkRG do you mean six? Seven was very compassionate, towards both his companions and the various strangers they helped along the way.
@@CaseyTyler357 No, I definitely mean seven, the guy who brought Ace to the location of one of her most traumatic childhood experiences. He started off ok, but they quickly started writing him as dark and brooding with little compassion for anyone.
Fun fact about the episode title:
"The parting of the ways" is the chapter in Harry Potter 4 where Barty Crouch Jr dies.
Oooh I love this thought! With each regeneration, his personality may change slightly... love it! I wonder if we will ever get a fully evil doctor 😈
@@julesreacts Perhaps. :P
To be clear, this isn't spoilers for any of the show you're likely to watch, but that idea was teased back in an 80s story.
But no, the Doctor is always a good person at their fundamental core.
@@julesreacts an evil doctor? Hmmmm.
@@julesreacts This might amuse you... about twenty years ago (before Doctor Who was relaunched) it was a popular theory among some fans that the school library in Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in fact a TARDIS, and that Giles was a Time Lord...
@@Jet-fighter There was also a what if timeline from the "Four Doctors" comic book where the doctor becomes a mad tyrant over time and space.
When I watched it with my nephews one of them said "She went full Dark Phoenix there!"
The hologram part when he's sending her home gets me every time, such a powerful moment. Great final episode for this Doctor.
Especially the ingenious bit where they took the echoey "recording" sound off of it right at the end, so it sounded like he was standing right there in front of her.
@@ms_scribbles the way he turns to look at her too.
"Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I."
He truly was a fantastic Doctor! Christopher Eccleston was my first and forever will be my favourite Doctor. He's such a nice man, I remember meeting him as a kid when he came over to my house for tea.
Even though he only had one season, he will always be remembered for jump-starting Doctor Who again and making way for the actors to come.
That was such a beautiful line from the Doctor... And he is SO right! They WERE fantastic 😭😭
Chris Eccleston came to your house for tea?? That's so cool! :)
Christopher Eccleston was fantastic as the Doctor. He was absolutely fantastic. :)
He absolutely was 💜
The doctor personality changes a little, but what you you will notice is it isn't just a random change, the 9th doctor was plagued with PTSD from the time war , you probably noticed how dark he was , in the episode the end of the world and in boom town
The 10th doctor personality was result of the doctor starting healing because of rose
Ohhhh.... that's so beautiful... 💜💜
One of the hardest jobs of being a Dr. Who fan is the transitions from one Doctor to the next. While each has a different personality, they are always great to watch.
Btw. Doctor #10, David Tennant, will be a blast to watch and delivers a wider range of emotions.
"Oh that's right...Barcelona!" has lived in my heard rent free for years lmao
The arc that 9 goes through in just one season is unmatched imo. We see him hit with the same situation he went through in the Time War bit when it looks like he'll have to sacrifice his second home he refuses to. Rose saved him both literally and figuratively.
I wonder if he knew what impact Rose would have on him and that's why he was so insistent, coming back to ask her again? Okay, that's made me think 🤨
@@julesreacts He doesn't know why - he just knows who
This is the 5 stages we all go through and baring in mind we had to wait months before watching the next series and not see the next series straight away.
1. Sadness of the Doctor that we've just lost
2. Resent the new Doctor before their first episode appearance
3. Watch the first 2 or 3 episodes thinking about the previous Doctor
4. Accept the new Doctor and watch their time in the Tardis
5. See them die and go back to sadness again

Can't tell you how happy I am when I see a reactor fall in love with this show as much as the rest of us.
I'm so glad to hear that! It's a wonderful show and I've just enjoyed it all SO much 🤗💜
These last two episodes of the Ninth are very emotional, even today.
Don't forget the xmas specials! "The Christmas Invasion" takes on straight after the events of this episode and is the first story with David Tennant as the Doctor.
Great reaction Jules. So glad you are enjoying this franchise.
Thank you, Steve!! I loved this first season of New Who VERY much. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us 🤗💜
she can also watch the children in need mini-sode they made before the Christmas invasion

@@julesreacts Yes, I was going to mention this also, You need to watch The Christmas Invasion before the official Episode 1 of season 2 or you'll be left scratching your head.
That will be coming in a few days!
That's the next episode on the channel, this time next week :)
Fantastic series 10/10. Not one bad episode.
Chris will always be my doctor😃
(His regeneration is the most sad for me)
He was absolutely wonderful 🤗💜 Thank you so much!
Murray Gold, the composer, absolutely flexing throughout this episode, but can we take a moment to appreciate the sound right at 18:03
Your not the only one! I tend to get very emotional whenever the Doctor regenerates too🥺 What a fantastic episode, I like how it gives a good idea of how powerful the Tardis can truly be.
Your reactions have been awesome and am so happy your enjoying the series! Your in for a wild ride!🌌
Thank you!! It was such an emotional episode but I loved it so very much 💜
Now look what you've done - you've made me cry, too.
Awww thank you 💜 I'm sorry about the tears! I truly never though Doctor Who would make me cry so much haha 😢😭
David Tenant had the hardest job replacing chris but he did it well
Eccleston and Tennant are my favorite Doctors.
18:58 "You are tiny!" Bad Wolf speech is one of best badass speeches ever.
It's rare in shows where you have an episode so hopeless and filled with dread. I love it.
Even now, before we get into the next season, I've seen people talk about FUTURE doctors in the comments to this video 😥 I try and delete them, and I have lovely moderators as well who work hard to delete comments, but I guess unless I ignore the comments section, someone will inevitably say something 😭
Thank you so much for watching the bit where I talk about the minisode and Christmas Special! You're AWESOME!! I've had so many comments about it but I think a lot of people just either don't watch, or watch just the bit they want to see 😅 One day I might do a secret thing in the middle of the video, a special code word for people to write in the comments HAHA
Have an awesome day 🤗💜
It’s been such a wonderful journey to watch you watching this first series through fresh eyes, feels like I’m getting to re experience it all over again
Thank you so much for being here and enjoying this episode 💜🤗
Thank you so much!! That means the world to me 💜
Brave heart, Jules.
I never saw someone Laughcrying like you at the end. Great combo!
Daleks with a concept of original sin. Now that is scary.
Jacks got his vortex manipulator
So many great moments in this, but an underrated one is Nine leaning his head on the TARDIS door after talking with the Emperor.
Words cannot describe the magic and emotion Murray Gold brought to Doctor Who, the show would not be the same without him
ahh. this episode ☹ i really wish christopher had more time as the doctor because he was SO enjoyable ((and fun fact he is SCARILY similar to my dad. almost his twin)). now i went into this show _completely_ blind. had no idea this was a reboot, had no idea the doctor could regenerate so i genuinely thought he was dying. i was terrified of the new doctor because you gain an attachment to the previous one and "no one can top him!" and they always go out SO emotionally !!! really pulls at your heart strings. god. im glad you enjoyed it and bawled just as much as i did. truly a remarkable episode
It was an incredible ending for a beloved doctor. I wish he stayed longer as well 😭
"You were fantastic. Absolute fantastic. And you know what? So was I!"
I think that's still my favourite last Doctor Line.
This is by far the least Doctor-centric Doctor Farewell episodes, and it's my absolute favourite of all of them. The end came so suddenly, I had no idea it was even coming when I saw it the first time. I didn't even know about regenerations, so it was really shocking for me.
It is an emotional rollercoaster ride... you really can't deny it about this show~ :)
The sadness of saying goodbye to one Doctor, mixed with the excitement and trepidation about meeting the next; it's a lot! Thanks so much, these have been so lovely to watch 💕.
My pleasure. Thank you for being here 💜
People often missed the implicstion they lied about the weapons being able to stop darleks. Jack knew they would not but they needed to slow the Darleks down anyway
“Have a fantastic life” although he had one of the shortest runs as the doctor, Eccleston is still one of my favourites.
Many comments about it across many videos! I don't know when the next doctor regenerates, so hopefully it stays that way 🤗💜
Each Doctor has his own personal style, but they all share a certain essential Doctor-ness, which started with William Hartnell in 1963.
Fantastic! I loved Eccleston. Tenant is my wife's Doctor - Smith is mine. You have so much good stuff ahead of you.
He is an incredible Doctor 💜
Thank you sooo much ☺️☺️
Congratulations, Juliette! Your first regeneration. The first is always the hardest.
You've heard of the 5 stages of grief? I've always thought there should be a "5 stages of grief after a Doctor regenerates"😉
Fans get attached to the Doctor and it can be difficult to accept both that one is gone and that another has replaced him. Sometimes fans can initially be hard on the new Doctor because he's not yet "our" Doctor and we compare and contrast and feel the new guy isn't up to snuff. Also, we miss the old one. However, we almost always come around to loving the new Doctor, until it's HIS time to regenerate and we get those sad feelings again and the cycle continues
But, yes, one never forgets their first Doctor😊
Yep that's explained.
@@alexandermills9965 Excellent! I'm going to have to remember that!
Congratulations on your first regeneration, I've been watching Dr Who since 1972, yeah I'm old...ish :) You have so much to look forward to.
I didn't want him to die.)
Can't wait to see your reaction to the new Doctor!
Everybody has "their" Doctor. The first one they watch and usually their favourite. Mine was Tom Baker aka the 4th Doctor aka the Best Doctor.
Eccleston did such a fantastic job. This transition still makes me emotional.
Loved seeing your reaction to it!
It was SO emotional but I adored this ending and the season SO much 😭💜
What a great reaction to your first regeneration.
Thank you so much, Mark! It's a pleasure to have you here and I'm so glad you enjoyed this one 💜
Loved your reaction! You really got his caring for her by sending him back. I love how touched you were.
It was SO meaningful 😭😭 he really loves and cares about Rose!!
The emperor daleks voice is very well done. Got a very effective... uh, effect on it.
Ooh!
I'd forgotten it was today.
Well I know what I'm watching as soon as I get home!
Was surprised of how well Jules seemed to held it together for this episode. I most certainly did not when I watched the series some years back. But I did not have the magic of editing my view of the series either.
I cried my eyes out 😅 but I guess I didn't do a too bad job of holding it together.
idk if anyone's mentioned this in the comments but jack ends up getting his own spin off series called torchwood after this so you don't see him for awhile (also have to say I am absolutely loving this series I am a massive doctor who fan an its great to see someone experience this incredible show for the first time)
Make sure to watch “Christmas Invasion” next. That’s Tennant’s first full episode, so don’t jump into Season 2 just yet!
I'd go further, and say watch the Doctor Who minisode from Children in Need 2005, "Born Again", first. It bridges the gap between this episode and _The_ _Christmas_ _Invasion._ Though from what Jules said, I think she's on it!
Yes, that episode is this time next week with the minisode in between!
Yeah, I really hope next time I won't know when the next doctor ends 🥹 Hopefully people don't keep commenting about it haha
@@julesreacts Yeah, fingers crossed :).
Sorry about the spelling, I have sausage fingers
Thank you so, so much 💜
This one is one of my favourite last episodes for a doctor
Enjoyed watching your reactions to this. I haven't watched DrW in quite a while, this is a great way to get back into it. I'm glad RUclips suggested you.
I loved Chris Eccleston (this Doctor) so much, very glad he was The Doctor. He was truly FANTASTIC!
Thank you so much for your kind words 💜 I'm glad youtube recommended me to you as well hehe
Yes, I'm pretty sure the 9th Doctor had only recently regenerated and that was maybe his first time seeing himself!
- "Noooo! The Doctor just died!!!"
- "Ugh, I don't like that new Doctor."
- "Okay, The Doctor gave a pretty chilling speech."
- "Oh wauw, That Doctor is one of the best Doctors!!!!"

Man i LOVE this episode... thanks for the reaction and trust me you are gonna love David as the Doctor... even if it takes some time...
Not only was Chris fantastic but you were too watching this series and reacting to it 💖
Can't wait to see you dive in S2 and potentially beyond 🥰
