I was camping with my brothers, and we hiking along a ridge. The ground gave out and i slid down. As i was going my right foot got caught between a down tree branch and a rock, I kept falling and ripped all the connective tissue in my ankle. Used the shove to pry my foot out and make a splint. It didn't help i ended up crawling several miles back to the car. As a side note becuz i was crawling i had ticks all over me and ended up getting treat for lyme disease LOL. I now have 2 plastic bolts in my right ankle. Took 6 months after surgery to walk again.
@R.J. Lewis he did say best 'beater' knives.. meaning inexpensive not top end.. but you can beat up on it and it will last.. I torture my cold steel knives.. I have them from 8-10yrs ago.
Sgt bear - I carry the 4” full serrated Talwar. I think it is far better than the Recon 1 although I love that folder, too. For EDC cutting purposes, obviously the plain edge would be better.

I helped a buddy lay sod on his acre plot and used my Pro Lite to cut it to size and at the end of the day it still had a working edge on it. That's just outstanding on $25 knife.

I know alot of people talk crap about Cold steel knives. They're definitely a brand you either love or hate. But I'll tell you what. If you ever need a tough knife that gets the job done no matter what you put it through. Cold Steel is the way to go. I love that they're using S35VN now. And man oh man do they come crazy sharp out of the box. They fill a hole in the market that not very many companies do.

If you think an out-the-box edge on a Cold Steel product with the typical steel they use, you might just be amazed as to what some fine-grained carbon like shirogami/white #2 from Hitachi...nothing quite like it, and sharpening it by hand is a joy.

Just ordered my first ever cold steel knife the the 4 max 62rg knife for work and believe I will not be disappointed. As from what I have researched on RUclips it is one of the strongest heavy used folders out there. I can tell by looking at the knife that it is going to work for me as it has all the many different thing I am looking for in a knife. I own many different type of knives and different makers for all the different type of uses I have from work & EDC to wood craft and self defense and this knife looks like it could do a pretty good job at any one & all of those tasks.
I had a cold steel full serrated tanto fixed blade I bought with my first tax check when I was 18 almost 25 yrsago .used it all over the house and yard and wore the entire serration down and recently made it a straight edge tanto on the grinder. I've got a very large collection of the machetes and pocket knives collected over the years. awesome stuff
My first Cold Steel was a Ti-Lite for my wife. The first one I carried was an AK47 I picked up in Kabul, love that thing. I think the 4MAX will fit in nicely right next to it.

Yep, this is one of the things that Cold Steel did to me. A lot of people would say 5 ounces is a bit too heavy. For me that's standard weight and I can't even feel they're there when I carry them around.
I carried a large espada for several months and couldn't it was in my pocket. Weight and size considerations are radically overstated in the pocket knife world.
Look at this line up, and tell me Lynn doesn't give a damn. He spares costs in only the most necessary of places, and puts the money where it counts. He makes wonderful knives for the everyday working man, and puts tons of thought into safety and function, and makes the products affordable for damn near everyone. He's easily in the top 10 most egotistical guys I've ever met, but he backs it up with SUPERB knife designs and builds. More than that, he's an avid hunter, supporter of law enforcement and the military, and defender of the Second Amendment. Any video with Lynn Thompson will get me to watch.

I have bought over 30 Cold Steel Knives none have disappointed what you pay and what you get you can't beat them. My favourite manufacturer carry fully serrated VaqueroXL edc or 6" tilite.

Those "LITE" knives have me really interested. I've always wanted a beefy cold steel but they're so thick in the pocket. Those LITE models are like the best of both worlds.
It's fascinating how this guy generates such a huge range of reactions. Perfect example of the endless differences among human personalities and preferences. Incidentally, I just bought a new Cold Steel Air Lite direct from the Cold Steel company store in Ventura, CA. Very excellent, economical knife. I'm pocket carrying tiny knives right now for a change of pace, but I recently bought one of the Houston brand inside-the-waistband magazine sheaths cuz I miss carrying a bigger folder. Everything up to a bigger Emerson fits in it, and the Cold Steel Air Lite slips in and out easily. Disappears right there in the small-of-the-back until I need it. Little Gerber Prybrid X with the slide-out #11 X-acto blade also rides unnoticed in the front pocket. Also, I WAY prefer Zac's more mature demeanor in this vid without his face-making jive routine with a 25 year old teenager buddy. Did I say that? ;-)
And also no fake or nervous laughing at the end of every sentence. I enjoy watching Zac, he's obviously a good dude but that "laughter" makes me cringe. I recognise that that's my problem, just detracts from the video for me though.
I actually prefer a benchmade atomatic edc...iam from Trinodad lookin for a cool benchmade but got to wait till work starts back cause the vir put a halt on work on my side so gotta do some saving when working is back to het a benchmadeautomatic with a case if iam luckyand I will be cool so u all can give me the guidance I need to get one off those blades if u'll don't mind🤷🏾♂️

I still like Cold Steel, however I had an issue actually brought up in this video about failed locks. Back in the very late 90s I bought a 4 inch Voyager Tanto. I was using it to poke a hole in a large cardboard barrel ( the kind we received wire spools in) and unfortunately the lock failed, cut the tip of my thumb off , juat up to the bone and halfway through my index finger. I just sharpened it the night before so I'm guessing that's why it did so much damage. Anyway, I have steered clear of any lock back folder ever since. I did contact Cold Steel , they asked me to send them the knife to check it, however I had a lot of reservations about sending the knife in as, once it's gone it's gone and so is my proof. I cleaned the knife and put it back in its box and wrapper and still have this knife today. I wouldn't ever use it, but I still have it as a reminder. Yes I'm well aware of Cold steel redesigning the lock to the new version of Axis, but once biting twice shy. I still have an original 7 inch Cold steel Recon Tanto that I swear by and was my go to bush knife for 20 years or so.

He didnt do any hard use with it because "it didnt feel premium," he hated the plastic and apparently it pinched his finger every time he opened it. It's a knife that can do some real work. Cold steel makes the best “cheap” knives money can buy. I mean that in a nice way also. For $30-$40 I can get a cool folder that is quality steel and construction, great locks and down right cool looking. Lynn, if you or anyone from cold steel read this, I’d like to see a line of hunting knives (fixed or folding) that had day glow colors for the handles. Camouflage is cool, but if you drop it or put it down for a minute, they disappear in the underbrush. Bright colors are what I want in a hunting/outdoor knife so I don’t lose it. Keep the camouflage pocket clip as that will be the only part showing. The day glow will be hidden in your pocket until you pull it out.

I love my pro lite! I have the tanto and clip. I use the tanto to pry field points out of my back stop when I shoot my bow. Knife is a workhorse!

The CS knives are not to my personal taste, but Lynn Thompson seems to really want everyone to have a good knife regardless of their budget.

My old spartan took me to the bone when I was cutting a zip tie. The damn thing was so sharp, I never expected it to cut so easily.

Code 4 is nice in the pocket. Has pretty wide handles but it's very narrow so it's not to bulky in the pocket.
That ranch boss reminds me of the knife my grandpa carried , I think I’m going to get one to pass down. The liner lock is such a great feature to me.

It's fascinating how this guy generates such a huge range of reactions. Perfect example of the endless differences among human personalities and preferences. Incidentally, I just bought a new Cold Steel Air Lite direct from the Cold Steel company store in Ventura, CA. Very excellent, economical knife. I'm pocket carrying tiny knives right now for a change of pace, but I recently bought one of the Houston brand inside-the-waistband magazine sheaths cuz I miss carrying a bigger folder. Everything up to a bigger Emerson fits in it, and the Cold Steel Air Lite slips in and out easily. Disappears right there in the small-of-the-back until I need it. Little Gerber Prybrid X with the slide-out #11 X-acto blade also rides unnoticed in the front pocket. Also, I WAY prefer Zac's more mature demeanor in this vid without his face-making jive routine with a 25 year old teenager buddy. Did I say that? ;-)
And also no fake or nervous laughing at the end of every sentence. I enjoy watching Zac, he's obviously a good dude but that "laughter" makes me cringe. I recognise that that's my problem, just detracts from the video for me though.

I actually really like and agree with his explanation of using the plastic pocket clip on that folding hunter.
I actually prefer a benchmade atomatic edc...iam from Trinodad lookin for a cool benchmade but got to wait till work starts back cause the vir put a halt on work on my side so gotta do some saving when working is back to het a benchmadeautomatic with a case if iam luckyand I will be cool so u all can give me the guidance I need to get one off those blades if u'll don't mind🤷🏾♂️

that kris sold out the moment it existed. lets see if cold steel will actually pull off aus10 in higher numbers or use cheaper steel
They've been using aus10 on blades hopefully it doesn't become an issue. I love. My XL voyager in aus10
I want the clip point SR1 lightweight so much, the original model was always too much out of my wheelhouse. That 4Max and the Kriss blades too though!

I never bought a Cold Steel but I've always liked watching Lynn Thompson. He seems a genuinely nice guy. If they start making an FFG Tuff Lite, I'd consider it.

I still like Cold Steel, however I had an issue actually brought up in this video about failed locks. Back in the very late 90s I bought a 4 inch Voyager Tanto. I was using it to poke a hole in a large cardboard barrel ( the kind we received wire spools in) and unfortunately the lock failed, cut the tip of my thumb off , juat up to the bone and halfway through my index finger. I just sharpened it the night before so I'm guessing that's why it did so much damage. Anyway, I have steered clear of any lock back folder ever since. I did contact Cold Steel , they asked me to send them the knife to check it, however I had a lot of reservations about sending the knife in as, once it's gone it's gone and so is my proof. I cleaned the knife and put it back in its box and wrapper and still have this knife today. I wouldn't ever use it, but I still have it as a reminder.
Yes I'm well aware of Cold steel redesigning the lock to the new version of Axis, but once biting twice shy.
I still have an original 7 inch Cold steel Recon Tanto that I swear by and was my go to bush knife for 20 years or so.

I've never owned a bugout and I never will. If you want to know why, watch what Wranglerstar said about it. For me, it just won't cut it. :)

@@damyr the bugout punches well above its weight, literally and figuratively. Despite what wranglerstar says its actually a durable knife. He didnt do any hard use with it because "it didnt feel premium," he hated the plastic and apparently it pinched his finger every time he opened it. It's a knife that can do some real work. I bet kurt and zac would agree.
@@mattpardy2826 nah, for me, the bugout looks like a flimsy chinese toy knife. I can't even imagine to carry it or use it or even look at it. It's like an ultimate cringe (not) knife... and the fact it costs a 100 bucks... I mean... gah! I just want to puke. It's overrated AF!

Cold steel makes the best “cheap” knives money can buy. I mean that in a nice way also. For $30-$40 I can get a cool folder that is quality steel and construction, great locks and down right cool looking.
Lynn, if you or anyone from cold steel read this, I’d like to see a line of hunting knives (fixed or folding) that had day glow colors for the handles. Camouflage is cool, but if you drop it or put it down for a minute, they disappear in the underbrush.
Bright colors are what I want in a hunting/outdoor knife so I don’t lose it. Keep the camouflage pocket clip as that will be the only part showing. The day glow will be hidden in your pocket until you pull it out.

Looks like cold steel is getting cheap on us. Was really hoping for the mini recon with CTS-XHP or S35VN to make a comeback.
You can still find them on Ebay for the price of a brand new Spyderco lol. Even the Aus 8 ones are good Cold Steel's Aus 8 is the best I've had.
