    Joe, for what it's worth, I ran my 5k PB (15.30) at 38. And I ran my second quickest marathon this year at 45. Don't quit on a bad race!!!

    Joe - a 70.3 (not your specialism) with no taper. It was a solid result. Chin up. Pro Triathlon needs you. Results and winning is one thing but it’s also your total honesty, openness and willingness to show vulnerability that gives so much to the sport. Go and smash LP! 💪🏼🐶

    4:23 behind first place, 1.9% behind. You're right there. Don't quit.

    Another honest reflection and whilst you’re not currently in the best headspace, you have to know what down is like to be able to enjoy rising back up again! Only you know what’s best for you and your family, Joe and at the end of the day, they’re what’s truly important.
    Can you go this week with a goal of just enjoying Lake Placid? Race on how you feel, don’t worry about anyone else, remove the weight of self-expectation and just let it roll. That might help you see the right way forward for you. Whatever the case, there are many people out there who appreciate you sharing your journey and I hope you can go and just enjoy the race. 👍🏼

    It might be fatherhood tiredness Joe, it’s such a deep change. If you’re carrying a level of fatigue it’s not possible to perform to your best. Very easy to get trapped in cycle of pushing harder because the numbers aren’t what you want and that’s a downward spiral on long term recovery

    For what it’s worth mate, watch Harry’s post race video… sounds like there was some people in the front pack not riding too fairly and Harry had to put in a big dig to get rid of them! You’re right there mate, use this disappointment to get fired up for placid! Maybe race a bit riskier and really leave it all out there, smash it mate! 👊🏼👊🏼

    Love your channel. Love your work. Have to say - what you just felt with your race outcome is what 99% of a selection of age groupers feel, when they train amazing, but someone more genetically gifted kicks their arse despite less than optimal commitment. That’s life.

    Maybe it doesn’t feel like it for you some times, but bad times will go away, and you will get to your peak performance and results once again. The body is a complex mechanism, purely the biological side on its own, then you have the psychological side… . Probably this doesn’t help you, or you don’t read this, but man you are a powerhouse and a top athlete, even if it doesn’t look like it for you. Be patient, analyse what you can improve and I’m sure you’ll get back on track and smash it! The sport need Joe Skippers, you are such a breath of fresh air!

    Think maybe you train too hard before race day, causing a bit of fatigue , try 2 full days before and absolutely nothing . You won't lose anything but I believe you'll be better prepared . Done this before myself ,(obviously not your standard) but it helped massively. Don't retire , much to much still to give ❤

  • @finnfitzgerald6632

    Wouldn't be too disappointed, it sounds like there was *a lot* of drafting in that front group on the bike. I'd imagine that's why you weren't putting any time into them.

    It might be the difference is that you had Lake Placid in the back of your mind, so you didn't go as deep as the others. Also, 70.3 is too short for you....not enough distance to show your strength 💪 😉

  • @JonathanCrossley
    @JonathanCrossley 4 месяца назад

    Chin up junkyard dog and don’t make too much of a decision in an emotional state. You felt strong but you were training for a 140.6 and admittedly did minimal tapering and peaking for this. Take the strong feeling into the week and crush Placid!

    The results are telling. Might be time for a change in some way. The obvious one to me is to try a coach that you respect. I listen to the podcast too so not just basing this commemlnt on this video. Best of luck in lake placid. Maybe the longer distance suits you better.

      Yes I think Joe can really shine on longer distance, also it's less crowded of young heavily trained yougnsters since they often don't have enough endurance to maintain the speed on longer distances.
      I think 70.3 is too short for him

  • @ironmantooltime
    @ironmantooltime 4 месяца назад

    Joe, you're training too much intensity. That's why your consistency is gone. You're older, you need to dial in more zone 2.

  • @__Naht
    @__Naht 4 месяца назад +2

    Mate. Respectfully, you need a coach. FFS.
    Extreme talent and potential going unharnessed through lack of discipline/consistency in the right areas. (That's what a coach is for).
