I also believe when you send modern from 2010-2020 along with modern from 1980-1990 they are much harsher on the older books bc they don’t look as nice as the newer shiny books. I blame this on new graders without enough experience.

I took the slab to my lcs and he even said there's absolutely no way that's a 9.2 told me if it was him he'd 100% Crack and resend it that the grader was having a bad day or something. Hey Bry, hope you are doing well. I attended the CGC Academy and want to give some insight on helping you. Make sure you are checking the INTERIOR COVERS as well. You want to check if any interior foxing or any dents that aren't apparent on the front. None of your video has you doing that. I'll flip through every book I submit, check the interior covers, and even eyeball the centerfold with staples. These are the same actions the graders do when assessing your book. I'd also recommend getting some "Lume Cube" lighting and checking the books under the light to unveil any finger bends that are not seen normally from 2-3 feet away when you are holding it. You'd be surprised how many defects you can miss in not having done this. Also, I DO NOT recommend doing any prescreen. You're on the right path. Take into account these adjustments and you should be getting much better results. Keep up the good content!

My guess is that reversion happened with most of those books with tics and bends. The printing defects were likely always there and were easily missed. Because of reversion, I now set my cleaned and pressed books aside for a month and then re-examine them one more time before submitting. It is an extra step and delays the submission but helps catch reversion. Rates of reversion are likely affected by hard to control factors such as humidity and temperature. I think reversion rates have increased with all the crazy weather we have had in Cali. I can’t prove it. Would need to get Swagglehsus on the case to come up with some charts and graphs on reversion rates crossed referenced to weather conditions. As always, super educational and fun video Bry! Keep ‘em coming.❤

You should make videos of the spines (while you're going over them the first time, you're already looking, just do it with a camera) before you send them in and then compare them when they return to see if they incur damage at cgc. Also, the idea of resubmitting (which I see all the time on forums and youtube) and getting different results kind of invalidates the accuracy of grading services doesn't it? It's really got me disillusioned with cgc (as does paying them twice to do the same book 😐)

That is a remarkable cover. Really gorgeous. About the grades, could it be a slight page color issue?

No page color only affects the grade if it’s really severe…

I think the moderns have a chance at 9.8s anything pre really has to be not touched since bought to get that 9.8 but hey that’s the game worth a shot 🤙

What Happens about a lost box ?? I’ve thought about having books graded m, but I would lose it if a 25G book was just “lost” --

Shouldn't there be a better shipping box for comics? Sending paper in cardboard is getting horrible results.

Don't waste your money on prescreen. Spend some time reviewing your books for any defects under a light prior to making a decision on grading and/or whether it needs a press to "get it over the top". This is a skill that you only get better at by putting in the effort. My best example is when you took an exam in school, you sometimes just "knew" you crushed it. It's the same with this!

Given how much you submit, you would think that they would hold you to a higher standard..with that said, it's good to know in a way that everyone is being treated as equals by cgc!

I actually just submitted ten books to CGC today but I did not apply the pre-screen. I've never used the pre-screen service in fact but I am thinking I should start applying it especially since there is no minimum limit now. I pressed and dry cleaned all ten books so now stressing if all the books except one doesn't come back a 9.8.

I don't think you can screen for less than 25 books submissions. The only time I sweat it is when it's obvious that a 9.6 isn't worth it. For what I'm submitting though, I'm still going to come out ahead....just not as much.

@@Marcus_F CGC just updated their pricing and now you can submit however many books you want for pre-screen.

If you pre-screen for a 9.8 can you get higher than that.
Same for if you pre screen 9.6 and they believe it’s a 9.8 can they give you that even though you did 9.6?

Ouch, they must have been damaged at CGC. I guess that is part of the risk of grading.
