Tikka is a nice rifle and a bolt action 223 is a nice edition to the fleet. On my list one day is a223 in a lever either a Browning or HENRY. Great video. 223 can take down deer coyotes and wolves im sure, but like u said, depends on range. 223 is a undervalued but capable round.
i have 223 t3x lite barrel and it shoots under 3/4 moa 90 percent of the time and more often than not under half moa. best was .26 at 100. great rifle, being rebarreled with take off ctr barrel and have a pse etac stock on order for it as well. favorite load so far 25gr varget, 52gr smk, br4 primer in lc brass loaded to tikka mag length. half inch 5 shot groups most days with that load.
I like your setup. I don't have a rifle currently, used to own a Ruger M77 Sporter laminate in 30-06 with a stainless 22 inch barrel years ago. I had to let it go as I needed the money. That was a heavy rifle. I am thinking of getting another good quality bolt action and the Tikka and Bergara brands picked my interest. The Tikka 3x CTR in either .223 or .308 topped with a modest power scope is my primary choice since I will be shooting mostly paper at a distance of 200 to 300 yards only. Thanks for your video.
I went from expensive Sako varmint rifles with big expensive German glass to a Ruger Scout in .308 and a CZ550 in 375 Ouch & Ouch and haven't looked back. I really like the versatility of these sorts of rifles, easy to off hand and capable of being accurate at longer distances if you scope them. My philosophy now is, if I need a bench, bag or bipod, I'm not interested.
Very honest. Big fan of the Tikka T3 range. Follow an Australian Varmont Shooter of Rabbit, Fox, Pig and you both highlight the beauty and the design excellence of the Tikka T3. Albeit one with Custom barrel and thermal night vision and the other a more realistic build and accessories. Excellent viewing.
Most modern high quality rifles can handle 5. 56, but if you get a really spicy round from faulty hand loading or a crap brand it can cause catastrophic failure in a rifle chambered in .223. The margins for pressure tolerance when using 5.56 can be very small. I trust the brand as the CTR will be my third Tikka rifle, but I asked the gunsmith to have it converted to .223 Wylde as that is the perfect chamber if you want to use both cartridges.
I ordered a Tikka Super Varmit rifle in 223 that I should have in a few days. It comes with a 6 round magazine. I wonder if the 10 round magazine that comes with the Tikka Compact Tactical Rifle will work in it?
Really enjoyed the video. I have the CTR in .223 with a 24" barrel and like you I've never had any issues with the magazines. They are expensive here in the UK and cost around £120-00 each.. I've just ordered a GRS Bi-Frost stock for it and although it is heavy (I'm not a big chap) I still love it.. All the best from England. 🙂
The CTR mags aren't cheap here in the United States either, about $100. How do you like your GRS Bi-Frost stock? You mentioned that they were heavy? I'm thinking about ordering that stock. Thanks!
Average $90-$100 here in Canada for the T3X mags. Love the look of laminate stocks but they tans to be heavy enough to rule out making it a nice carry hunting rifle
Hi, i'm from South Africa, looking at buying that exact rifle. What is the magazine OAL? I would like to handload heavy/long for caliber bullets. Just wondering if thats possible. Great video
Hello Gareth from South Africa (I've always wanted to visit SA!). I pulled my micrometers out and you should be able to run long bullets capable of stabilizing with that twist rate. I measured the internal box magazine OAL at 2.491". I run 77gr SMK BT's without issue. Good luck!
SA has many problems, but I love it here! You should come, gun culture is thriving here, and the hunting is out of this world. Thanks so much for checking the measurements, I appreciate it.
Hey bruh, can you measure the inside OAL of the mag? And, does is the block in the rear removable? I'm looking to feed 80gr SMKs from the mag if possible.
Pretty disappointing groups for a tikka ctr. I have the same rifle in a 20 inch 6.5 creedmoor, yodave trigger spring and a apa little bast4rd gen 2 brake that shoots same hole groups all day at 100 yards. Glad I seen this video before picking one up in .223
You sure got that right. I forgot to mention thst in the video. Regardless Id rather pay more $$$ ,for a mag that works than a cheap mag single stack mag that sticks out 7" under the rifle
Ruger American in 5.56 is about $450, same accuracy. I almost, almost, bought the Tikka Super Varmint the other day. It was just too expensive. I could get three Ruger's almost for the same price.
I could definitely see the benefit of adapting these to an AICS magazine, even for the purpose of cheaper spares. Still wonder why these companies keep releasing with proprietary mags...would be so much better if they would use a Stanag pattern for 223/556 or NATo patters for 308/762. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of the round in any iteration. Have always found it extremely difficult to call shots, and feel it is lacking mass despite the velocity. It is good for the tasks it was designed to do, but excels at nothing. Maybe the fact it is so unremarkable is what makes it so beloved. For this class of round, I think nothing beats the Czech 7.62x45, but man is that a cartridge that never got off the ground!
AICS mags in 223 aren't easy to find (at least up in Canuckistan). The CTR magazine system was (at least in part) developed for the Canadian C-19 rifle which is now in military service. Its a good magazine system. I'd love to put a 358 winchester barrel on my CTR and call it a day.
A 223 Rem chamber is definitely tighter and will give your brass more reload opportunities if you need to full length resize. Definitely less case expansion

I have a Tikka T3 Scout in .223, very similar, 1/8" twist, 20" barrel, magazine is a little different. Good shooter.

There are very few practical shooting situations where benches and bags are options.
@@Riflechair Same here. The lighter the better for hunting. The heavier and longer the better for benchrest. I love Carbines about 36" and under 6lb.

Excellent review! Would you happen to know if you can safely shoot 5.56mm rounds thru the .223 chambered Tikka T3x CTR?

Nicely done review. Now I want one. Actually I want a T3 Arctic but that will have to wait.
Love my ctr in .308 it is rock solid with an awesome mag.
thanks for the review, I'm sure interested in the 223, what are your thoughts on the 223 with a LPVO scout scope? 1-8 or 1-10
I would hesitate to add more for forward weight to the rifle. Its already a bit barrel heavy.
I've been searching for a Schmidt and Bender Klassik. I was told you won't go back to any other scope.

love these little scout concept rifles - much like a CZ527 carbine

For both the 308 and 223 CTR mags, can you load them by pressing straight down? Like one would with an AR mag.

Great channel great content keep it up
Id love that in 308 for deer or maybe 6.5 creedmoor
Which do you prefer the Winchester model 70 or the Tikka?
The M70 is much sexier than the Tikka T3 but if I could only choose one it would be the Tikka.
why are you letting the rifle to get "super hot" when group shooting?.......

Inside OAL is 2.547". The sleeve doesn't seem to be staked in place but I'm not sure if you can remove it without damaging it.
