Legend! A huge inspiration when I first discovered climbing. Also... I remember waiting hours/days to download a grainy video of climbXmedia to watch 5 minutes of climbing.
I'm disappointed this video didn't explain that Chris is one of the tallest climbers to have hit 9a. His height and reach are a bonus that people like Megos, Ghisolfi, Maclure etc don't have, no matter the ape index or leg length or finger strength etc. Chris has his own techniques he's developed through proprioception and self awareness and I think that's why he's responsible for alot of first accents. He's the IP Man to many Bruce Lees.

Great video as always! In my opinion, Sharma is the GOAT, all factors considered (no offense to Ondra). Interesting point about him never spending too much time in the Valley- fun to imagine what he would have done!

Is freakishly insanely strong. His finger strength is insane, his explosiveness is insane ans his strength especially at his size is insane. Just an absolute freak of nature. Being the best in the world in 3 years is called being a freak .
Don’t get me wrong he works hard and is a cool guy but what separates him is not technique flow anything it’s freak strength
And let's let's honest Mutation was the first 9a+ in 1998. 20 years for a second accent!!

This video made me realize I relate to sharmas style. Obviously outclassed incomprehensibly so, I still think there's some similarities which is kinda neat I guess.

I'm so sorry!! I've genuinely tried so hard to get the German "ch" down. Really though I had it this time, but I will keep listening to interviews.

@@ascentionism Thats because you are using the front of your tongue to pronounce it, similarly to the "ch" in the word "check". In pronouncing the "ch" in his name, you are actually pressing the back of your tongue towards your throat lightly, making the opening smaller - try to emulate the hissing sound that cats make - here is a little angry kitten - ruclips.net/video/76TRoGOlGZA/видео.html
I believe you will learn it, looking forward to the next video where you nail it down. I have the german "ch" in my language so its weird when someone cant do it but i genuinely believe its not that hard to learn right away if you know the theory behind it. Definetely easier than the german "R" sound, even some native speakers struggle with that - but if you cam say "skrrrrrrrrrrra" than you got that one as well haha.

The stone Monkey was originally a film from 1988 documenting Johnny Dawes and his climbing movements... Don't know if the Yosemite climbers copied the phrase from there??
I can't say for sure whether or not they copied it or not, but it definitely seems like the Dawes film used it first - the stone monkeys were a pretty vague group but I can't find any mention of them until the 2000s

Who made the 1980's movie, Stone Monkey.
With an endless ability to push grades, and relied on a style that was dynamic, balance and motion.
Dawes is in your video from 2:09 to 2:24, and was a well qualified "dirtbag climber" famously living through the 1980's in tents and unemployment benefit. See book by Paul Pritchard.

he is a genetical freak . I wonder if he could be able to climb harder grades if he had the training discipline. imagine Sharma flow/strength combined with Ondra obsession.

For the record Ondra has more flow and strength than Chris ever had. They climbed in two different generations and times. They're totally different people. Chris is not freakish at all, nor is Ondra. They're average height guys with immense passion for a sport dominated by petiteness and power to weight ratio.
