I know no one cares but I managed to stick my first couple of hand jams yesterday (a rare sight in a bouldering gym). It felt really weird and especially off width jams were tricky but it was great fun!
I think you should try and do a breakdown of some of the climbing we saw during the Olympics, there is a lot of interest about it, now would be a good time to capitalise on that. Great vid as always Magnus.
The camera angles are what makes the lead climbing so interesting. When I can get a sense of what you're feeling and the angle of the wall and distance to holds, it makes it really exciting for other climbers *palms constantly sweating during the vid*
I find lead climbing way more interesting than bouldering, as I am a new-ish lead climber myself and i love watching you lead climb, gives me a good idea of what im up against when i progress to the hard grades! keep doing lead climbing as much as you can cause its great to watch!
Its so fun to see Magnus and Marte just have fun and mess around, hope you guys are doing well and having fun climbing :) By the way, good job in the camera work and editing, see you next vid! Have a good one guys, not just Magnus, but the whole crew
Lead climbing is definitely not boring to watch, its nice and relaxing though. It feels like you're solving a massive puzzle and the more I watch you the more I see the pattern and the next moves and now I guess what holds you will use next. Its quite fun and as long as you are enjoying yourself, the content seems to be solid. Keep up the good work.
Watching Marte is super inspiring as a beginner climber. When Magnus climbs he makes everything look easy, and with Marte you can see how hard it is and how much progress she makes. Makes me want to go to the gym!
20:03 that moving camera shot with other volumes moving relaative to you seemed so epic! Like a battle in a field full of obstacles, only, upside down!
Magnus could post a video of him and Marte playing chess for 30 minutes and I would still watch it. Love the content it gets me psyched to go to the gym!
This is funny to me because as an amateur chess player, I watch a lot of chess content on RUclips. Magnus and Marte playing chess for 30 minutes would be like a dream come true.
@@MrVannspreder saaame! I find that climbing and chess have a very similar entertainment value because as a viewer, you can follow the moves and try to think of what will happen next. They're both cerebral sports in some ways!
The more lead climbing the better! Bouldering is awesome too, but we really get to see your technique shine with so many moves back-to-back in the flow of lead climbing. It's really great to watch and learn
Pre-ordered to give back a little for your kindness and showing yourself to the world. I really enjoy seeing you both :) This sounds so dumb but I mean it
The reason your page is so successful is because you’re extremely authentic, actual world class climber who has won many tournaments. It would be cool to hear your opinion post-Olympic and how the scoring went. I’d love if you got guys like Ondra or Megos on to climb with and do some videos. Hope you can keep everything going, and best of luck with your relationship.
Love watching the lead climbing videos. Especially that last one, sat here with sweaty palms just watching how high that climb was. Good work and loved the music.
19:30 That is the most cinematic view I've ever seen in a climbing vlog! Wowowow! The big aperture, the composition, the angle, the colors! Props to the camera man!
As a fellow climber rediscovering lead again, I'm happy for more lead climbing content, I'm up to 6b+ but am aiming for 7a before the new year. All the tricks n tips Magnus, thank you. Keep up the good work. 🏴🏴🏴
19:30 OMFG!!! Just when I thought my brain got too pumped for this. Everything after this point looked like an OP character going all in all out before the form toggles off. SSJ3 mode. Burst mode. Devilishly amazing to watch!!!
yay, finally some lead! I'd love to see more of it, it's definitely not boring and I actually enjoy it more than bouldering, a lot more fun as Magnus said :)
Pre-ordered a signed copy, super stoked to read it! Congratulations on finishing it up! More lead climbing, please. Watching you lead is like a choreographed dance.
Found that thing you said about lead climbing being an investment very motivating. I recently got my lead license and I'm struggling to top anything without having to take multiple times to de-pump. I'm just going to force myself to do lead all the time so I can get fit and be able to feel that flow. More lead vids would be great!
As a lead climbing fan myself, I definitely would love to see more! Especially some stuff about resting, the mental part of it all and like how to project a route best...
Magnus ! Bro.......you must do more lead videos ! Climbing on a rope is like meditation , watching you whilst I'm not climbing or resting is not only inspiring but visually fucking awesome !
Watching Marte is always great. She's not just stunningly beautiful, her attitude to 'having a crack' is outstanding. She's become quite a good climber in her own right. I'm so happy you two found each other. I was also impressed with how red Magnus' back and shoulders became whilst climbing. You see that in elite level swimmers as the blood flow ramps up.
Lead in that case in a long sequence of technically easier move for Magnus, the question is not about will he get the move?, it is more about will he get enough juice to reach the top? I still enjoy looking him trying his best to get the best technic to save energy.
Always happy for any lead-related content ! Also, good job Marte! In the future, remember that, “A loaded foot never slips.” When in doubt, put more pressure through your feet, and they’re less likely to slip off the hold. And when on slabby feet, drop your heels to get more rubber contact, both will help you feel more secure 🙂
I think this is the best Magnus video. It has amazing lead routes, a banger of a song, awesome climbing from Marte, and Norwegian. I'd love to hear them talk only in Norwegian for a video.
This was epic! love seeing all climbing disciplines! Definitely dont think lead climbing is boring, if anything its more interesting, sometimes bouldering seems too short and easy
Thanks for showing some lead climbing. I agree, when I watch comps I enjoy the bouldering more than the lead. Largely because, as a climber, you can work through the problem with the athlete. However I do prefer to lead climb over bouldering when I go to the gym. Bouldering is good for practicing technique and if you have no belayer!
"I haven't done this in a while" he says, then proceeds to climb two 8As and almost an 8B. Oh Magnus, this is why we love you, haha. But I have a theory for a while now. What if the fact that you're doing such versatile climbing and physical activities, from fun challenges to tournaments with friends to climbing with limitations or on coins....what if it's all making you a better climber than ever :D
I'd love to see you break down the climbing grades for us beginners from 7a -> 9a in lead, like what's the difference between a 7a and a 8a? (in your opinion), is it simply just worse holds or what's going on? Of course it's very different depending on the route but it would be interesting to get a break down of it :)
So nice to see lead climbing and hear you are going to do more of it!! Would be cool if you broke down routes like you do with boulders. Also would be neat to see you go through the process of projecting a route beyond your limit. I know a lot of climbers are training for the fall season, I'd be psyched to see a lead climbing series on strength, power, endurance, power endurance and then performance/projecting for routes. Great to see you back on a rope!!
This is my favorite of all of your videos. Marte WAY TO GO!!! Love the lead climbing! Congratulations on the book! Best video you've made! Magnus, you are inspiring.
I knew that you shouldn't cross ropes but not how dangerous it really is. Its insane how fast a rope with weight (climber) would tear if the one on the moving rope was rappeled.
Yes was a good visual of why not to cross ropes. Cutting the rope took me back to reading about ? And the dilemma, getting his rope cut and falling into the cravasse.
Maybe you hear this all the time maybe you don't but I have to say watching people who know how to climb well they move over the wall better than I can walk down the street. It is graceful, magical, and this old guy is very impressed with how easy you make it all look.
As a larger guy who got back into climbing after almost 10 years, I love watching lead climbing, bouldering is a struggle for me and it is nice to watch how you pace your climbs, as well as techniques that I wouldn't think to use.
i can see how from your perspective lead climbing is boring, but speaking from a climber's perspective I find it very motivating and interesting to watch. Probably my favorite content you put out on the channel. Keep it up Magnus!
I really enjoy seeing some lead climbing on your channel Magnus, and if you love lead climbing, you should absolutely do more of it! It will help you stay motivated as a youtuber as well, making it easier to make your next non-leadclimbing video that you might be less motivated for. All the best! My wife and I still love your videos - your climbing gym in Kristiansand is what got us interested in climbing, along with your videos of course. Now, our 3 children, where the youngest one is 3 years old, is climbing there together with us pretty much every week, and we love it! Thank you for introducing us to this! ❤️😃
Congratulations Marte on completing the slab of the week!! You have come so far in your own climbing journey! Great job Magnus on your lead climbing! I love watching your climbs especially the longer sessions. I’m always amazed at how easy you make it all look. Please keep it up!
I love the idea, but just one difficulty and so much space for just one route... But I would definitly try too visit that climbing gym every week for that.
Got interrupted, came back to the video and turned the phone upside down at one point till I saw the caribiners hanging down and realised you were on a wild overhang. Amazing. More lead climbing please, and Happy New Year 2024!
That's a really cool lead wall, getting very steep early into the climb, unfortunately that seems to be a rarity among climbing walls. And this blue 8B looks insanely long and pumpy Also perfect timing for this video, after a year of bouldering I just started my toprope journey and am looking to get into lead climbing too :D So personally I would be happy to see more lead climbing, even though I feel like bouldering is easier to get right on video
Magnus: I’m just wondering. Can you actually be in danger (caused by the belayer) when the belayer uses a grigri? (Except they use the repelling handle)
I mean, lead climbing always have the obvious risk of too much slack and poor positioning, Especially on really dynamic ropes. But when using a grigri one risk is that the belayer would keep the hand on the grigri to feed faster (as aviced by petzl and done by almost everyone), If Magnus falls and the hand is not removed, there is no friction (depending on how good you hold the rope) stopping the rope at all.
I absolutely love lead climbing and there's just not enough of it on youtube tbh. Watching how climbers cope with the route mentally and physically, how expectations meet reality, the tactics and strategy of it all i'm psyched for. I got into climbing cos i was inspired by sport climbing and i find i learn a lot from these videos. Thanks for this Magnus
Resting and de-pumping on the hand jams Magnus 😀😀
Made me happy watching and hearing that 💪
Lol, I thought of Pete when I saw that move
I saw the hold then I searched for a comment by you guys - am not disappointed lol
Like but leaving it on 69.
When i saw it, i thought, hand jam, that is unusual. Wide boyz would appreciate it.
I know no one cares but I managed to stick my first couple of hand jams yesterday (a rare sight in a bouldering gym). It felt really weird and especially off width jams were tricky but it was great fun!
Love the format: regular session + quirky climbing story/trick
Magnus, more lead climbing. This was fantastic! Good to see you back on the rope my dude! Also, Marte is killing it, keep it up girl!
yes!!! more lead climbing please!!!! this was awesome
Magnus, I wanna see you finishing the blue route!
Magnus lead climbing is my favorite Magnus to watch.
So great!!! I second this.

Really happy seeing Marte finishing the slab of the week! :)
And also great to have her in the videos again!
Seeing how easily friction cut through that rope was honestly kind of eye opening. I expected it to take a lot more.

Under tension, even just body weight, it goes significantly faster.
