When i saw it, i thought, hand jam, that is unusual. Wide boyz would appreciate it.
I know no one cares but I managed to stick my first couple of hand jams yesterday (a rare sight in a bouldering gym). It felt really weird and especially off width jams were tricky but it was great fun!
Love the format: regular session + quirky climbing story/trick
Seeing how easily friction cut through that rope was honestly kind of eye opening. I expected it to take a lot more.
dyneema is WAY quicker btw... be careful with your fabric!
Under tension, even just body weight, it goes significantly faster.
You gotta keep in mind, it's Magnus pulling on it ;)
Not boring at all! Lead climbing is so entertaining for me, there's much more suspence compared to bouldering (:
I think you should try and do a breakdown of some of the climbing we saw during the Olympics, there is a lot of interest about it, now would be a good time to capitalise on that. Great vid as always Magnus.
For real. I'd also love to see an analysis of the boulder problems that weren't completed on the men's and women's side.

It’s wild how strong he is for not lead climbing a lot recently.
It’s not raw strength, it’s his flexibility and technique.

The camera angles are what makes the lead climbing so interesting. When I can get a sense of what you're feeling and the angle of the wall and distance to holds, it makes it really exciting for other climbers *palms constantly sweating during the vid*
I keep my chalk ready nearby when i watch magnus climbing.

I find lead climbing way more interesting than bouldering, as I am a new-ish lead climber myself and i love watching you lead climb, gives me a good idea of what im up against when i progress to the hard grades! keep doing lead climbing as much as you can cause its great to watch!
The next "hard" grade is always the hardest, cuz its so close, but out od reach. That's the beauty of climbing ❤️

This is funny to me because as an amateur chess player, I watch a lot of chess content on RUclips. Magnus and Marte playing chess for 30 minutes would be like a dream come true.
@@MrVannspreder saaame! I find that climbing and chess have a very similar entertainment value because as a viewer, you can follow the moves and try to think of what will happen next. They're both cerebral sports in some ways!

I've been climbing around three month, I think I am enjoying climbing more than bouldering. Hope you can make some lead climbing more often :D
I like lead better as it's what I associated with mountaineering from my youth watching Chris Bonnington on TV.
Getting experience with rope is very good to really appreciate bouldering, no rope little walls require more technic to get real fun.
Lead climbing is definitely not boring to watch, its nice and relaxing though. It feels like you're solving a massive puzzle and the more I watch you the more I see the pattern and the next moves and now I guess what holds you will use next. Its quite fun and as long as you are enjoying yourself, the content seems to be solid. Keep up the good work.
Personally I'd love to see you do more lead climbing Magnus. I'm taking a belaying class on Wednesday so I can start trying it with my friends.

Watching Marte is super inspiring as a beginner climber. When Magnus climbs he makes everything look easy, and with Marte you can see how hard it is and how much progress she makes. Makes me want to go to the gym!

The reason your page is so successful is because you’re extremely authentic, actual world class climber who has won many tournaments. It would be cool to hear your opinion post-Olympic and how the scoring went. I’d love if you got guys like Ondra or Megos on to climb with and do some videos. Hope you can keep everything going, and best of luck with your relationship.
The more lead climbing the better! Bouldering is awesome too, but we really get to see your technique shine with so many moves back-to-back in the flow of lead climbing. It's really great to watch and learn

Found that thing you said about lead climbing being an investment very motivating. I recently got my lead license and I'm struggling to top anything without having to take multiple times to de-pump. I'm just going to force myself to do lead all the time so I can get fit and be able to feel that flow.

Lead in that case in a long sequence of technically easier move for Magnus, the question is not about will he get the move?, it is more about will he get enough juice to reach the top? I still enjoy looking him trying his best to get the best technic to save energy.

This was epic! love seeing all climbing disciplines! Definitely dont think lead climbing is boring, if anything its more interesting, sometimes bouldering seems too short and easy
I'd love to see you break down the climbing grades for us beginners from 7a -> 9a in lead, like what's the difference between a 7a and a 8a? (in your opinion), is it simply just worse holds or what's going on? Of course it's very different depending on the route but it would be interesting to get a break down of it :)
And see that for some a 6c is more challenging than a 7a

Also, good job Marte! In the future, remember that, “A loaded foot never slips.” When in doubt, put more pressure through your feet, and they’re less likely to slip off the hold. And when on slabby feet, drop your heels to get more rubber contact, both will help you feel more secure 🙂

So nice to see lead climbing and hear you are going to do more of it!! Would be cool if you broke down routes like you do with boulders. Also would be neat to see you go through the process of projecting a route beyond your limit. I know a lot of climbers are training for the fall season, I'd be psyched to see a lead climbing series on strength, power, endurance, power endurance and then performance/projecting for routes. Great to see you back on a rope!!

I absolutely love lead climbing and there's just not enough of it on youtube tbh. Watching how climbers cope with the route mentally and physically, how expectations meet reality, the tactics and strategy of it all i'm psyched for. I got into climbing cos i was inspired by sport climbing and i find i learn a lot from these videos.

Thanks for showing some lead climbing. I agree, when I watch comps I enjoy the bouldering more than the lead. Largely because, as a climber, you can work through the problem with the athlete. However I do prefer to lead climb over bouldering when I go to the gym. Bouldering is good for practicing technique and if you have no belayer!
More lead! And for goodness sake, buy that girl some belay glasses!

I really enjoy watching the lead climbing. Watching you clip helps me learn better technique for clipping, and it's really helpful.
I knew that you shouldn't cross ropes but not how dangerous it really is. Its insane how fast a rope with weight (climber) would tear if the one on the moving rope was rappeled.
Yes was a good visual of why not to cross ropes. Cutting the rope took me back to reading about ? And the dilemma, getting his rope cut and falling into the cravasse.

As a larger guy who got back into climbing after almost 10 years, I love watching lead climbing, bouldering is a struggle for me and it is nice to watch how you pace your climbs, as well as techniques that I wouldn't think to use.
Loved watching this. Been trying to get my fitness back up again to lead climb after a long time of the gyms being closed. So inspirational to see you climb so smoothly!
More lead! Absolutely love it. It's good to watch because it spurs me on to do more of it. That and there's so much to learn from just watching you climb.

That's a really cool lead wall, getting very steep early into the climb, unfortunately that seems to be a rarity among climbing walls. And this blue 8B looks insanely long and pumpy

Magnus: I’m just wondering. Can you actually be in danger (caused by the belayer) when the belayer uses a grigri?
(Except they use the repelling handle)
I mean, lead climbing always have the obvious risk of too much slack and poor positioning, Especially on really dynamic ropes. But when using a grigri one risk is that the belayer would keep the hand on the grigri to feed faster (as aviced by petzl and done by almost everyone), If Magnus falls and the hand is not removed, there is no friction (depending on how good you hold the rope) stopping the rope at all.
