  • The Bill Frisell Trio featuring Rudy Royston - drums, Thomas Morgan - bass
Few musicians in jazz have had as wide a range of influence as has the guitarist Bill Frisell. His conception, part jazz, part rock, part country and part free improvisation, has changed the way music sounds. From his early work with the avant guardist John Zorn, through his own beautiful early works on ECM, and into his deeply felt explorations into Americana, it’s been clear that Frisell is a special, gestural player. His work with the jazz drummer Paul Motian and the saxophonist Joe Lovano, is a milestone in jazz guitar. And the trio he’s bringing, with Thomas Morgan on bass and Rudy Royston on drums, is special, with Mr. Morgan an improvising musician with no real peers. (Sound Engineer - Claudia Engelhart, Recording Engineer & Post Production: Rafael Alvarez, Video Director - Jerome Sabbagh)
Exhibition on display: John Little: Home Again, June 12 - July 18, 2021

i am an indian from the southernmost state of india, have grown up all through these 60 years on a staple diet of music - of various kinds - from the classical carnatic music of south india, to the hard rock and everything in between at one time or the other... the music that bill frisell makes is like nothing else, and yet is like (almost) everything else you have heard across the spectrum... ! and what i find as the cornerstone of everything he creates, is MELODY - which is the queen emperor of any/all music.
the *melodic* is that ultimate hallmark of a true music. bill's is a musical soul. hence the zen feel that so many below have so spontaneously felt and confessed here :)

Sweet, different, well played, quaint effects for a reason and with great effect, playful, smiling, funny, entertaining, wonderful, unique, masterful. And I mean all three musicians! This is just the time when one should use the word fantastic. I would say both transcendental and exciting, both poetic and funny. Relaxed and present in the moment. It may just not get any better. This has a lot of Thelonius Monk in it, some Baccarach, and blue jazz, and Debussy, and even some Zappa and what not. This guy knows all and more about the guitar and how to use a loop pedal, in his own originally sweet way. I hear sounds I never heard before, and they make me smile! Top genius!

@@GuillermoCarrasco That's because he's focused on making great music. Eye contact is necessary to know when to transition when something is unclear, like when you add someone to the mix or are playing a composition you haven't practiced or even played as a group in a long time.

Here’s the answer to the question, “does the Blue Mountains stretch to Victoria? For those who don’t know Australian geography, Victoria is the state south of New South Wales, where Sydney and the Blue Mountains are situated. The Blue Mountains is a part of the Great Dividing Range, a series of mountain ranges, ridges, and plateaus. The Great Dividing Range is also called the Eastern Highlands. It is the world’s third longest mountain range. Starting from Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula in the north down south to New South Wales it bends westward to Victoria, finally dissolving in the Grampians. That’s 3,700 kilometres of rugged mountainous terrains and highlands.

Bill Frisell kept us going during the pandemic, in all of his explorations and styles. Been listening to him for over 25 years, but listened to him extensively during 2020, 2021, etc. Saw him in early, March 2020 at the Boulder Theater with Harmony. A few month before that with Julian Lage. Then the world shut down. He did a bunch of shows ( streaming only ) at the Village Vanguard during the shut down period. But, really glad I stumbled onto this show. Seeing this trio in a few weeks in Denver. Will be magical. This is a terrific show. Thanks for uploading it!
